Car hire at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport - Gateway to West Sweden

Gothenburg Airport (known locally as Göteborg Landvetter Airport) is located 20 kilometres (13 miles) to the south-east of Gothenburg and 40 kilometres (25 miles) west of the town of Borås. Named after Landvetter, a locality in the Härryda district of Gothenburg, it offers around 90 non-stop routes, of which about fifty are scheduled and the rest are charter flights.

Serving as Sweden's second-busiest airport after Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, it caters for approximately 7 million annual passenger movements to a number of domestic, European and long-haul destinations. The airport comprises one main terminal building with both national and international operations and offers a wide range of on-site facilities, including banks, ATMs, prayer rooms, children's play area, lounges, restaurants, shops and cafés.

Vibrant and forward-thinking, Gothenburg has a very friendly vibe with added appeal of being an overgrown seaside town. In recent years the city has become increasingly popular for its culinary appeal and world-class craft beer scene, as well as its plethora of first-rate tourist attractions, most notably the Gothenburg Museum of Art, Liseberg Amusement Park, Slottsskogen Park and the Gothenburg Botanical Garden.

With a car hire from Gothenburg Airport you'll be able to immerse yourself in all the history, nature and adventure to be found in the city's environs. Top choices for visiting travellers are a leisurely drive around the Southern Archipelago where the views are outstanding, as well as a trip to the Bohus Fortress which has guarded the northern river entrance to Gothenburg since the beginning of the 14th century. Road-trip options include the sea route down the coast to Helsingborg and further south to Malmö, one of Scandinavia's most enchanting cities.

    Terminals

Gothenburg Airport has a single passenger terminal consisting of twenty gates and forty aircraft parking spaces. The airport previously had two terminals - domestic and international - but they have been merged into one main terminal. The transfer area, which has several shops, cafés and a restaurant, is accessible to all passengers and the airport has a VIP area where fee-paying travellers can go through a dedicated security check before being transported by car to the aircraft.

    Airport Facilities

Passenger facilities at Gothenburg Airport include banking services, several cash machines, a bureau de change, left-luggage section and a lost property office. The airport also has a good selection of shops and eateries in both the Domestic and International halls. Tax-free shopping is also available at GOT for international travellers flying outside of the European Union. A wide range of shops includes Travelshopping, Taxfree store, Chocolate and Scandinavian specialities, Global News and Books, Euroshop, The Perfume Shop, Episod Gift Shop, Pressbyrån, Fifth Avenue and Feskarbröderna Clothes and Fashion. Gothenburg Airport fully conforms with European standards for the provision of disabled travellers, with ramps and elevators available, as well as adapted toilets and porter assistance on hand whenever necessary. Other on-site facilities include children's play areas, baby-changing and nursing facilities, a VAT refund service, car repair service and a church. How to get to and from Gothenburg Airport

When you rent a car at Gothenburg Airport and need to pick it up or drop if off, the road distance between the airport and city centre is just 25 kilometres (16 miles), with the town of Borås 40 kilometres (25 miles) away, both via the Riksväg 40 motorway. The airport can be reached via the excellent Flygbussarna shuttle bus service which takes around 30 minutes. The airport is also served by several other shuttle services, such as Vy bus4you and Flixbus. Rides between the airport and the Nils Ericson Terminal located next to the Central Train Station also take about 30 minutes. Västtrafik (Gothenburg's public transport company) also operates the bus line 612 between the airport and the Landvetter village bus station, where further connections to both Gothenburg and Borås can be made.

    Parking Tips

Once you have collected your car hire from Gothenburg Airport, the next thing to do is drive to the centre and look for a convenient parking space, which can be difficult to find sometimes and relatively expensive compared with many other European cities. The hourly rate for parking can vary between the seven different parking zones and can be as high as 30 krona per hour. Please note that free parking for tourists is included in the Gothenburg City Card for visitors who purchase it. It's also worth taking into account the fact that Gothenburg has implemented a congestion charge (known locally as trängselskatt) for the city's central areas, although some car rental companies include it in their daily rate. Make sure you check this with your supplier when picking up your vehicle. Local company Parkering Göteborg has many parking spaces for visitors in Gothenburg and there are several different ways to find spaces. The Parkering Göteborg app can be used by visitors at the car parks marked with Göteborgs Stads (the city of Gothenburg’s) parking company. With Parkering Göteborg you can pay for your parking via your phone, find parking and start and end your parking in the app. Furthermore, there are 7,300 parking spaces available at Gothenburg Airport. Express Indoor is a comfortable solution if you want to park indoors immediately adjacent to the main airport terminal, which serves as a quick, convenient parking option for families with children. Express Outdoor is another suitable option and a more affordable solution fo drivers who don't mind parking outdoors but immediately adjacent to the terminal. The airport also offers affordable long-term parking facilities and a popular pick-up/drop-off short-term parking option.
