Location: The airport is located 3 miles east from the city centre of Sofia.
Airlines operating at the airport: As the main Bulgarian airport, it receives a lot of international and domestic air traffic. Major European national airlines are present at the airport. Flights from London-Heathrow are provided by British Airways and Bulgaria Air. There are also low-cost airlines offering flights to the UK, such as easyJet and Wizz Air.
The airport consists of two terminals. Domestic and low-cost flights are handled at Terminal 1 and international flights are serviced at Terminal 2.
Suppliers' desks are located in both terminals in the arrivals area. When booking your car hire at Sofia Airport, pay attention to pick-up information on your voucher. You will find there the name of your supplier as well as its location at the airport. At the pick-up, present your valid driving licence, voucher and a credit card for the security deposit. Inspect the vehicle for any existing damage and mark it on a pick-up report. The same will be done when you return the car. Make sure you drop off the car in accordance with your fuel policy. The two terminals of Sofia Airport act independently. All arrival and departure services are found in both terminals, as well as car rental and tourist information desks. The same works for shops, duty free, souvenirs and newsagents. All travel services the travellers may need are located in Terminal 1 and 2. A free shuttle bus connecting Terminal 1 with Terminal 2 is available at the airport, the stops are situated in front of the terminal buildings.
You can arrive at Sofia Airport from the city in approximately 20 minutes by car. Use Brussels blvd. and Tsarigradsko Shose blvd. When travelling in peak times, the drive may take a bit longer. By public transportation
Metro Line 1 connects Sofia centre with Terminal 1. Tickets can be purchased at the station or from ticket machines. There are also two bus lines connecting the airport with the city centre, line 84 to Sofia University and line 384 to Tsarigradsko shose Metro Station. Alternatively, there is a train connection to the city from the second metro stop from the airport, the Kowalski shose Metro Station.
Taxi services can be requested at the taxi company desks inside the arrival halls in Terminal 1 and 2.
Parking facilities for long and short stay are available at both terminals. In the centre of Sofia, there are two parking zones. The green zone is in the very centre of the city and only short stay is allowed. The yellow zone is around the green one. Please pay attention to parking signs (which are also in English) advising about time restrictions and the methods of payment.
