    Can I hire a car with less than 21 years of age?

Until you reach the age of 26, you will normally be considered a “young driver” regardless of what country you are in, with appropriate fees being imposed due to this.     In general, insurance requirements are the same for all ages. Some car hire suppliers do require you to buy an additional extra insurance if the main driver in less than 21 years of age. In Germany for example, there exists some suppliers that make the purchase of extra insurance mandatory and a requirement before collecting your vehicle.     When was your driving licence issued?

    In general, if you wish to hire a car, you must have held a valid driving licence for at least a period of one year. This restriction does however deviate slightly from country to country, for example, Irish car hire suppliers require a driver to have had a valid driving licence for a period of at least two years.     Do you need to provide an International Driving Permit?

    An International Driving Permit as it is known within the UK, is an internationally recognised driving licence with multiple translations on it. It goes hand-in-hand with your valid UK driving licence and it a copied translation of it. Both permit and UK driving licence must be presented together in order for the permit to be valid. Depending on the country origin of your car hire, it may be a requirement to present an International Driving Permit.
