" To whom it may concern, I would like to make a formal complaint about the treatment and service we received on our recent trip to Greece. Car collected on the 23rd May 2025. I booked my car on January 13th 2025, my car wiz booking reference was #25-06-168. On arrival at the Carwiz office at Chania, it was a long process. After a 30 minute wait for my car, I was taken to a car that was smaller than what I had paid for. The car I was given, a Citreon C3, was highly damaged (photos attached) and not what I was expecting. I was travelling with friends and they had paid for a smaller car and they received a newer version of the same car as me. After talking to my wife, I queried the car I received. I was told by the manager of the office that the car I was given, the Citreon C3, was not the car I had reserved and not the size reserved. I queried why if this was the case that I was given this car. No reason was given. I asked for an alternative car, and was reluctantly given an alternative, also in poor condition. It was made clear that this was my only choice. It is disappointing to say the least, as my previous experience was very positive and why I chose to use Carwiz again. How is it possible that the incorrect car was provided when it was booked in January for a May collection? How can you as a company provide cars that are in such poor condition? Why was I knowingly given a car that was not the correct one? I would like to request a refund of the full costs for this rental, as it was a situation where the correct rental car was not provided. " First time I've used Carwiz. Booked a compact car for 8 days, they gave my a 5 door Corsa with approx 74000 kms on the clock. I had no problems at all with the car. The car had a few scratches and dents on the body and wheel hubs but we photographed every panel and the wheel hubs. We bought our own excess insurance in the UK ( Its a lot cheaper) and Carwiz withheld 500 euros on my credit card to cover part of the excess which I expected. The tank was 3/4 full ( again we took a photo) and we returned it 3/4 full. Carwiz took 5 minutes to check the car and released the 500 euros. Would I book with Carwiz in Chania Crete again, Yes. Follow the rules and you should be ok. "

" Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience with your associate company, Carwiz at Corfu airport, and we need to make a strong complaint about this please. Firstly, our reservation says "meet and greet with handheld sign", however this did not occur. We had to walk about half a mile in in heavy rain. This is only a minor part of our complaint though which is about the way we were treated by the aggressive and corrupt staff at Carwiz. They gave us the car that we had ordered when we arrived on the evening of Monday 9/9/24. We then drove to our accommodation which was 2-3 miles away, possibly a ten minute drive. We noticed immediately that the car was very old and in a poor condition, the engine made a lot of rattling and grating noises and the car struggled to go up small hills. There was no rubber on the clutch pedal and my foot kept slipping off the bare metal. The next morning, Tuesday 10/9/24, we drove back to Carwiz and explained the issues with the car to both an employee and the manager. Both were very uninterested and unhelpful when we said that the car was dangerous to drive and not roadworthy. The manager and his sidekick both got quite aggressive and forceful but we stuck to our guns and eventually they agreed to exchange the car when we said we'd call Auto Europe to complain. They initially said they'd swap the car for one like for like in size but then they changed their mind and said that they only had a small Toyota Yaris that we could have. We were unhappy with this but these discussions were upsetting and wasting our holiday time so we had to agree. We asked for a discount as this car was cheaper than the one we had booked but they refused point blank. They also said they'd charge us for the petrol used by us to drive to our accommodation and back, only a couple of miles away. We advised that we only brought the car back as it was faulty and so we shouldn't be charged for this petrol, however they got very aggressive about this. I asked how much it the petrol would be and the manager said 2 Euros so we agreed to this as it was only a small sum. I wrote the amount on the agreement sheet and showed the manager and sidekick and then I signed the sheet. We signed the new hire sheet for the Toyota Yaris and left. On Monday 16/9/24, we returned the car and Carwiz signed it off with no damage. The sidekick then said that we owed 32 euros for the fuel for the first car. I said that we had agreed 2 Euros with the manager, and I had written this on our contract before signing it. He said that they hadn't agreed 2 Euros. After some argument, we asked to see the manager and the sidekick sent for him. In the meantime I phoned Auto Europe and spoke to Eloise at 13.35 Corfu time, 16/9/24 and told her about the issues. Eloise said that she could not help us at that time and that Carwiz would deduct the sum of 32 Euros from our deposit, however that you would escalate the complaint when we sent in the details and recover our money. She asked that we send in a copy of the sheet that we signed. We therefore went back in to talk to the Carwiz employee and asked him to pass us our contract but he would not give it to us. This became quite heated as we are entitled to see the contract that we signed, however he said that we had to wait for his manager to return. As we seemed to be getting nowhere, we said that we would call the Police to help us. The employee said to go ahead, so we called 112 and explained the situation to the Police. Unfortunately, they said that they could not assist as this was a financial disagreement only. The manager arrived around 15 minutes later. We had the same discussions with him but he refused to allow us to pay the 2 Euros for the petrol and said that it was now 32 Euros. We requested to see our contract and he picked it up and showed it to us. I pointed out where we had written two Euros and I asked for a copy of the sheet but he refused. We then asked to be allowed to photograph it with our phone but he disagreed. We then needed to argue some more, following which he took out a pen and scribbled out my writing of 2 Euros, before allowing us to photo the sheet. We then had to leave to catch our plane. They will have deducted a sum from our 500 Euro deposit. We do not know how much this will be yet, hopefully only 32 Euros, unless they decide to deduct more. This company have caused us great stress at both the beginning and end of our holiday which has really upset us and put a dampener on the whole holiday. They tried to give us an unroadworthy and dangerous car it was very difficult for us to obtain a replacement. When we did, they gave us a small car instead and refused any part refund plus they have criminally overcharged us on the use of petrol. They were aggressive and had no customer service at all. Their actions in trying to overcharge on the petrol and amending the contract by hand should be investigated. We therefore wish to claim a refund based on the reduction in cost for the small car against the car we booked, a refund of the 32 Euros charge for petrol (or whatever amount they decide to deduct) plus we would like some compensation for our time and stress getting these issues resolved which should not have occurred at all. Please also note that on all three occasions that we were at the Carwiz, there were other customers making complaints and the staff were rude to them as well. We heard two sets of people complaining about very large deductions made from their deposits for only very minor damages. One lady told us that they tried to charge her a huge amount for insurance which she had not asked for. You would be much better off not associating with Carwiz as they seem to be a very poor company, not interested in customer service and intent on making excessive charges to customers who have little or no ability to challenge the situation. Carwiz hold the deposit and can make any deductions that they want. We attach photos of the two staff members who were very intimidating and agressive to us, photos of the original car, the dangerous pedal and the small replacement car. Also attached is a photo of the contract but this is after the manager scribbled out my writing of "2 Euros" at the bottom of the page, although you can just make this out. You can also see on the document that they have written "1 bar less fuel". This shows that the petrol had only gone down one bar so wanting to charge 32 Euros for this is much too high. Unfortunately we didn't video the noises made by the engine of the first car as we hadn't expected to encounter any issues in swapping the car. Also, we should have photo'd the signed contract on the second day when we swapped the car but we didn't think of doing that at the time, again not realizing that Carwiz would go back on their agreement and corruptly try to overcharge us. I booked with them because I wanted a booking office on terminal but it turns out that their office is outside the airport entrance and they don't provide a shuttle service. Further complicated by the fact that the telephone number given to me by Auto Europe was incorrect. Apparently all these issues have been pretty visually reported to Auto Europe but endure. The end result was that my wife and I had to walk for 10 minutes in the evening heat with all our luggage to get to the rental office. We are both pensioners and I have mobility issues. This was extremely painful for me and hugely inconvenient. "

" Staff who dealt with us were really friendly. Two things that let them down slightly were that the petrol wasn't full as promised so we had to try and gauge it when dropping the car off otherwise we were paying more than we needed to. Secondly the transport to and from the airport wasn't good. When we arrived at the airport the vehicle could only fit me in it and not my wife so there was a delay whilst she was later collected. On dropping off the car we were sat in carwiz for 45 mins after the car was checked over before we got a lift back to the airport which was making us anxious as we had a flight to catch. "

At no time were we told when booking that these additional fees would apply. "

" We specifically booked the car we chose because it was stated to be "At Airport" and not to require a "shuttle". However, when we arrived it became apparent that Carwiz was not at the airport and a shuttle was required. The voucher instructed us to look for a sign with our name on it but there was no such sign. We called the telephone number on the car hire voucher but this did not take us to Carwiz. The address for the location of the Carwiz office was also incorrect. We called AutoEurope who redirected us to a Carwiz number in Croatia. We were in Greece. The Carwiz office in Croatia told us we needed to look up the address for the Carwiz office online and that they could not provide it to us over the telephone. We were travelling with a one year old and resorted to getting a taxi to the Carwiz office at additional expense. We understand from the Carwiz office that this is a recurring issue. There is in fact no shuttle service and the information on the voucher is incorrect but has not been corrected by AutoEurope despite Carwiz's requests. We are extremely dissatisfied with the service we have received. "

" Auto Europe supplied us with all the wrong details we were stuck at the airport for an hour and the helpline was less than helpful after the fourth call I had to make it clear they were not to transfer me to Carwiz as the number they had on file was incorrect and I kept getting a company who were not Carwiz. Carwiz do not provide pick up at the airport although that is what we requested and paid for through Auto Europe the address they had for Carwiz was incorrect. When we finally managed to get through to Carwiz they were literally a short walk from the airport and the staff were really helpful and couldn't apologise enough that we were given all the wrong information. " Very clean new car. Easy to drive. Checkin was easy as was checkout. Only downside is the wait for the bus back to the airport. It does not seem to be a constant circle. It seems the bus is waiting for customers to arrive and therefore the wait at the depot can be more than 20 minutes before the bus arrives. So it may be better to hire directly from the airport. "

It was replaced immediately with a better car, which, although well battered with 80,000km, proved to be comfortable and reliable. " We collected our car from Heraklion airport. The next day we experienced some problems with gearbox after we had driven about 60kms. As we were then not far from Chania airport, we went to the Carwiz rental station there and explained the problem. On pick up for getting all the paperwork done felt like a very obstructive member of staff, when trying to explain that the original credit card had been lost it lead to a very repetitive conversation which I was having to offer all the options solutions and just being asked for the lost credit card which i explained was impossible. Then they refused to take payment with a debit card with my name on, refused to take a credit card with anothers name on despite being part of the booking party, refused to then accept adding the second person as a named driver despite being willing to pay and use the credit car with their name on then. Eventually leading full circle to my original offer of paying with a debit card with my name on. Then on checking of car there was a significant chip and damage to the windowscreen, on asking if this was road legal we were dismissed and when asking if another similar car was available(of which there was >10 cars in the yard which i appreciate may have been booked ) we were immediately dismissed out of hand. Then for the damage check we had to insist on a new form as the carwiz provider immediately signed with no inspection of the car despite the above windowscreen damage and multiple scratches and dents to the car and wheels, I had the feeling we had no just been perceived as difficult and obstructive despite this being well within our rights and the whole point of the process. To top it off the car was parked in the corner between two other cars at right angles needing the wing-mirrors to be pushed in to even get out of the space. Would certainly avoid in future and will not be recommending friends/family based of this awful experience. "

Car was in a dreadful state with large scratch and dent on passenger side, scratches on nearly every panel and nearly 50,000 km on the clock (I didn't expect a new car, but this one was rather "tired"). The car mat in the driver's footwell had loose/torn binding on it which was not noticed until it got caught on a nut on the bottom of the steering column and almost caused us to crash when it jammed the column. Fortunately it happened on a fairly straight stretch of road and not on one of the twisting, hilly roads in Crete and we managed to free it. "

We instead went down to Rodos car hire who were superb. Just book directly with them in future and avoid Auto Europe and Carwiz at all costs. "

" Carwiz seemed a little disorganised. The car pick up was ok and I paid locally for a GPS which wasn't in the car and I had to go back into the office to get it. Then it turned out the didn't have a mount for the GPS and we ended up having to cancel that and refund the payment from 10 mins before. Also, the office was closed when returning the car..... just after midday. I and another Customer had to leave the cars without a proper check-in and post the keys in a drop box. I did take multiple photos of the car as I returned it...... in the same condition as at pick-up. I've emailed carwiz.gr on Friday 6th asking they acknowledge completion of the rental with no excess charges but still waiting for a response. "

" The car I was given was poorly maintained as soon as I drove away I noticed the check oil light was on so I telephoned them and they told me not to worry as it was fine the car just needed to be put on a machine to cancel it. The petrol tank was also nearly empty so I had to fill it up the next morning. While driving the electric windows started to close by themselves and the car slowed down on the motorway for no reason I didn't use the car very much over the next couple of days because I was worried. When I drove it back to the company on the drop off day I told them all of this. "

" Not great if the provider at the collection point is unable to be able to provide the same service they are selling online. Experience wise will choose another provider. "
" Staff was nice, the car was all around scratched small dents and also there were marks of rust, never received or had a rent car in this conditions, due to tiredness and kids not well we just got on the car and drove to the hotel. "

" No detailed directions to the bus transfers from the airport. The voucher simply said exit 5, but once out of the exit there are no signs for courtesy buses. We waited at the pick up point for 40 minutes for the bus, having had to call their office twice. They knew the arrival time of our flight (which was 10 minutes late) but did not wait for us to emerge with our bags or contact us to advise when they would be back to collect us. There was no apology for their tardiness once we arrived at the office and the check in staff member was incredibly slow, even though we were seen as soon as we arrived. In the end it took 2 hours from landing to driving away with the hire vehicle. The vehicle itself was very basic. The screen wash did not work and the boot lid fell every time we opened it. Was not too impressed with he car itself. Admittedly i had picked this company as it was the cheapest, but will probably opt to spend a bit more money next time and hire an on airport rental. "

Their office turned out to be 400m down the road. The car was the cheapest Suzuki Celerio. I would not have rented it if I had known. "

" Mostly ok. When we got the car they went round marking a piece of paper with dings etc. When we returned it they started questioning little bits that he hadn't noted and were genuinely tiny. Luckily I took photos of the car when we took it and just as well because he was even questioning bits that were marked on his paper. He pointed at bits and said "do you have photo of that?" and I did ask "why am I doing your job for you?". I think that they should take photos when you hire it and not hope that you don't so they can clobber you for damage that was already there. The fact that there is already damage also suggests that someone will have been charged for it - but it hasn't been repaired. So a nice little extra earner. Get it all fixed (perhaps) at the end of a seasons having charged for 3 different repairs, "

" No one at the ! Portacabin ! When arrived to collect car. The business next door had to make 4 phone calls to get someone to come and hand over the car. Which held us up for an hour. On return they went over the car with a torch trying to find some damage. Then tried to make out there was a scratch which was dirt, so I rubbed it off and they had to sign the form to say there was no damage. I would not recommend them to anyone. "

" company was not carwiz it was Mercury, i followed the instructions given to me before arrival and noone was in the office, then he came over after a while and said he was waiting outside terminal for me that was t the instructions. said i got an upgrade in my car to the bigger one but i think i would have preferred the smaller one, ive had better cars in Greece. then on drop off there was noone there then eventually someone came and said to me he's not here just park up the car and leave the keys here ! didn't feel quite good about doing this. We had to make several calls to try and get their attention but they just ignored us until finally someone agreed to come and pick us up. They were then very unapologetic about this. Awful awful avoid like the plague. Plus they're not even that cheap!! "
