However, after 20 minutes of messing around I convinced them to simply write down my card details and let us start our holiday. " We always use AE when visiting Santorini and always highly delighted. Usually cars from Goldcar. Very poor experience this time with Centauro. When i refused their own fully comp insurance (as purchased through AE) the attitude of the counter staff became very poor. We were given a key and pointed to a car with no walk around or any explanation of the car controls: loaded our cases and flight bags and tried to start the car. The key would not turn in the ignition. Went back to the office and one of the staff members came out to try it. A second lady then came out and gestured towards another car. We were clearly shown to the wrong car. Unloaded cases and bags and reloaded the correct vehicle. No apology offered for the confusion and again not shown any of the controls. Drove away to then find there was no screen wash when I tried to clean the windscreen. Upon return after 14 days rental where we did not have any accidents or bumps I was made aware of scuffs and light scratches on the rear bumper...clearly made by another car. I was charged €300 damage which I'm now claiming through the insurance taken out when booking the rental. Found the whole experience with Centauro poor on this occasion, BUT we will definitely continue to use AutoEurope for every trip. "

" Centauro, The car rental company that keeps on giving. Following an devious charge €360 from the Thessaloniki office, see previous post, the office made two credit card charges for the "door damage". One for €114 and one for €244. The first one was the fuel deposit which was used towards the "damage" and the second was for the remaining amount. This is has caused a problem with my accounts and with my insurance, as both need to see a single charge from € to £. Neither the local office nor the head office in Spain were willing to debit my card with and make a single charge. Adding to that the head office ensured me that there is not an issue with the double charge, dismissing legal accounting requirements that exist in both UK and Greece. Advice, if you rent from Centauro, and you have an "accident", and you have your own insurance, do not accept to use the fuel charge towards the deduction due to damage. The charge MUST be from the deposit or a completely new charge. And don't forget to take a private on a Centauro insurance!! "

Avoid Review of Centauro Rent a Car Reviewed yesterday I had used Centauro Thessaloniki Car rental numerus time in the past and I could only describe their service, up to this point, very good. Up on my arrival to collect the vehicle on the 1st of January 2024 customer service tried to force sale to me a Centauro CDW insurance which would cost 2 times the cost of the rental. The customer service representative used arguments that were not applicable to the vehicle. For example, accidental damage to the alloy wheel which the vehicle did not have. Up on my return to drop of the vehicle, 2/2/2024 @ 16:30 the same customer service representative was very eager to find scratches and faults to the vehicle. He has raised damage "incident", a number of door chips found on the driver's door edge. Considering the length of the rental, 24hr, and the place where the vehicle was parked during the duration of the rental, private covered car park 50 km form the city (I have access to another vehicle and the car rental is only used for traveling to and from the airport to the place of my stay), it would be impossible to have the door damaged. The customer representative also refused to provide a detailed description of the fault in the incident report, his details and he was eager to charge me €360 for the damage. I have been renting vehicles in many countries both for pleasure and business and from many different car rental companies but I never experience such behavior that can only be described as vindictive and totally unprofessional. As a result of this extremely poor service, I will withdraw all existing rental bookings with Centauro, and I will also make sure that all future business and personal rentals will not be made with Cantauro. My advice, either get a total CDW from Centauro for the extraordinary amount of €50 euro per day or find another car rental company. There are many in the area that will be happy to have your business. "

Perhaps each sold policy is 100 Euro commission to whoever sells it. Whatever the case, terrible, and never again! "
" The counter staff were borderline criminal. They pushed their 300 euro insurance package very hard, and lied in the process. We were told our own excess protection insurance wasn't accepted in Greece. This is not true. When that didn't work they told us that if there was any damage they would refuse to supply us with any invoices for the excess so we would not be able to claim from our insurance company. Even the British (but fluent Greek speaker) next to us was extremely upset with how she was being treated (exactly the same pressure and lies). We did not take their package, and it had a very negative effect on our trip to begin with. It was night time, and there was not enough light to inspect the car that I did not want to rent. The policy of Centauro is very strict and unacceptable regarding charges. The only pleasant aspect of this unpleasant experience was the extremely polite employee. However, this is not enough to change my opinion : I do not want to rent from them again! "

There is a vacuum of leadership in that office of Athens airport with poor behaviour and bad customer experience. "

" Although i have been hiring car from Centauro for years, this is the worst experience I ever had. I usually collect my car after 22:30 because of my flight to Thessaloniki. The collection was the usual stuff. They gave me the contract and after a quick look aroung the car, I did not see any damaged panels to further report. The bad lighting did not help... Upon my return, I positioned the car as close to the main building as possible and under their external lights. Upon inspection, the staff told that there two scratches and asked me for photos when I collected the vehicle. I pointed out to them, that their contract notes to report to them any damage, but the two tiny scratches they were pointing out they do not classify as damage neither could be seen under the poor lighting conditions at 22:30 at night, for me to report. Nevertheless, they failed to provide themselves any kind of photographic evidence that the scratches were not there when I collected the car. It is obvious because I did not have a full insurance with them, and the car was going back to FIAT in a few weeks time,it was easy for them to blaim me for those pre-existing scratches! They charged me €900 for that! In addition, their main offices have not provided me with any documentation of the cost/charges! The worst service I have ever received! I used to be think very highly of Centauro and I took pride in returning their vehicles in the same condition I collected them, but this experience made me feel extremely dissappointed, robbed and unfairly treated, as those tiny scratches had nothing to do with me! Very sad situation indeed! I now know that their operating standards changed and that they are trying to pray on unsuspected loyal customers, hence I will be very weary in the future. Of course I am disputing those charges with my CC company and I hope that all will end well and I will have the money they stole from me back... "

We had a hair raising shuttle back to Athens airport, the driver was speeding and using his mobile phone. He dumped us at arrivals, instead of departures and disappeared. " We arrived on a late flight. The centauro office is a few minutes walk from the airport. I called them to say at 10:56 to say that I was on my way( office closes at 11) and was told to hurry as they would not wait. The car that I was given was larger than requested. I was advised to look vehicle over, but it was a dimly lit carport and you were not actually able to get out of car and look round as too narrow therefore. I didn't take a video plus couldn't see anything anyway. On return attendant noticed a small scratch at front, I have no recollection of damaging the car and the scratch looked like the car had gone into something with a sharp edge rather than another car knocking it. I was charged 350 euro for this. In retrospect, very important to take a detailed video of interior and exterior. Reviews say that this company has done this before. My husband used thrifty and they were much more accommodating. "

" I've used auto europe many times and it's been quite some time since I had an experience like this with any of your subbies, even in Spain, or with anyone else for that matter. However, our dealings with yourselves in making the booking were excellent as ever. "
" The rental was supposed to F to F but the car wasn't full, so they took money from my CC which is supposed be refunded within 12 days of our returning it full, which I think was much more than the value of the missing fuel. At best this is them forcing me to give them a loan they can earn interest on and at worst a scam if I fail to return it full and they then over-charge me. They were unable to provide the small car we ordered and did not seem to understand that their 'upgrade' to a huge Citroen C4X was not actually a good thing! We saw no evidence at all that they have any small cars and plenty that they have lots of big ones so they appear to selling something they don't actually have. On arrival the woman in the office was telling another customer that if they severely damage the car they would be liable for the full amount if they didn't buy their insurance, not just the E1100 excess. We felt throughout the holiday that we'd be in for a very rough time if we did actually damage the car. On our return she went straight to the damage they'd not notified us of before (she obviously knew exactly where it was) and asked if we had proof it was there before we took the car (no damage map was supplied with the key). As luck would have it we had spotted and photographed it despite it being really dark. We felt that this was almost certainly a deliberate ploy to defraud your CDW insurers. I suggest that you and your CDW insurers should do a bit of data mining and analysis to see if this rental location is a bit rogue. Overall, this hire was like a return to the bad old days of car hire and, although we came out of it reasonably well, we were not impressed and certainly won't be choosing Centauro again any time soon. "

" I severely dislike the policy of pre-charging for a full tank of gasoline, and then refunding it AFTER the return, especially since the company does not provide a car with a full tank . They already take a security deposit: they should provide you with a full tank, and charge you if you do not return it full. I find their policy is dishonest "

" Auto Europe internet booking was good with competitive rate. Centauro took Euros from the credit card which had been used for the petrol deposit in £ before I signed a form which meant I have an exchange fee. Could have used other card with no exchange fee if I had been given the option. "
" At airport arrivals exit found Centauro driver & was transferred to the office to pick up car. Was last person in office before it closed (delay disembarking & luggage collection). Given keys without any information. Car was 6 speed manual & to start clutch pedal had to be depressed plus light switch on left of steering column (all of these different to my car) and to put car in reverse ring had to be lifted. Transfers were good with very little delay! Staff friendly. "

" When was offered a free upgrade, I knew there was going to be a catch, when the guy behind the counter started to cast doubt about the insurance we had arranged in England on your site, telling us that the police wouldn't give documentation if any damage occurred and that we had to have a new insurance that covered everything (like the one we're thought we already had) and that it would cost more by 150% than we'd already paid, held to ransom when you're tired and need to get to your destination, it's a despicable practice, tantamount to robbery, you should be ashamed of yourselves and it's about time legislation was introduced to stop this sharp practice! I will be repeating what I think on all the major media sites to let innocent people know how you rip you customers off! "

However on arrival, they had closed the office and were not waiting as agreed. This is simply unacceptable and cost us an additional 50 euro on taxis, not to mention wasted time. " AutoEurope is an agency and I did not book through Centrauro. Problems with extra insurance, which I thought I'd already paid for in the UK. I wanted to book the extra driver, my wife, for just two weeks instead of the three weeks of the car rental as the car was parked in Khora Sfakion for a week whilst we were in Loutro. No that was impossible. My wife drove the car for just one day throughout the three weeks car rental. Almost £100 extra just for the one day that my wife drove. Expensive indeed. "
