" Our flight was delayed. We arrived at the pick up desk at 00:01, 1 minute after the closing time. We were charged a late fee. We tried to ring the rental company at 23.30 to 23.50 but they did not pick up the phone anymore. Although we accept that we were late and that this incurs a charge, we find the full charge for being 1 minute late quite extortionate (EUR 69.88). However what we really are upset about and find objectionable is that the whole pick up situation was rushed and under pressure by the staff member who wanted to leave, even though we paid for the late pick up situation. We only realised that a whole range of extra charges were levied to which we did not consent when the staff member verbally ran through them. However, they appear on our bill. We feel that the situation was exploited by the member of staff to add nearly EUR 200 extra to our rental charges. The communication was misleading and we were rushed through the process: - we verbally declined extra insurance (we literally told the agent 'we take the risk' as we hold a policy with a separate provider, Carhireexcess Insurance); nevertheless it was added to our rental (excess and theft) (charged EUR 60 and EUR 30 respectively). - we were told we would get upgraded free of charge, but a charge of EUR 49 was added to our bill. - we were also charged a registration fee of EUR 9. We did not expect any extras other than a cross-border fee, in addition to what we had paid with autoeurope. As such we are extremely dissatisfied and feel we have been treated dishonestly by the staff member. "

When eventually served we were told our car, a Hyundai I20 was not available but they had a "better" car for us. When we got to the car it was hard to believe. A 3.6 litre Jeep automatic. Like a tank. For 2 pensioners driving around the Alps. Being late and unable to face going back to the desk and queue we made the mistake of taking it. It was horrible to drive. Far too bbii, no parking sensors and drank petrol for fun. On drop of our time was recorded wrong and we were charged much more han one extra day on our invoice, but without explanation. To complete the experience, our request to customer service (twice) has gone unanswered aftter 2 weeks. I expected so much more from Dollar (Hertz). "
