" It was hard to find Drivalia when we first landed in Barcelona, with no signs to direct us. The instructions I later realised were in small print on one of the documents and not very clear. A minibus took us to the office about 5mins drive away. We had to wait about 10mins to be seen, but the staff were friendly and got the job done. We were given the keys and told to find the car ourselves in their warehouse. We were also asked to take our own photos of any damage, though there wasn't space or light in the warehouse to do this well. There were a lot of dents and scratches on the car but nothing too big. We were given a mini instead of an Audi A1 and our bags only just fit in the car. When returning the car, it took about 15mins to be seen, but then we were taken straight back to the airport in the minibus efficiently. "

" I had a terrible start to my holiday. There is a bullying woman on the desk who almost reduced my daughter to tears. My daughter was also picking up a car and the woman was insisting that my daughter paid €300 for insurance, even though my daughter had already taken excess insurance out in England. My daughter almost paid the money when another customer told her to take no notice. When it was my turn to pick up my car, this time with a different member of staff, there was a problem using my credit card because I hadn't informed the bank I intended using it abroad. I had taken the card out especially for the car rental (I had even used it to book two cars). I put the card on Apple Pay but they wouldn't let me pay because they said it wasn't paying physically with the card. Even though I physically had the card with me. I offered to pay by direct debit but they wouldn't allow me to do that. I then offered to pay cash and they wouldn't allow that. Because all they were concerned about was getting people to pay the €300 for insurance. I had also purchased excess insurance in England. We spent two and a half hours in that place. I ended up having to pay the €300 otherwise they were not going to allow me to have the car. The €300 is their sole purpose. Very bad experience. We weren't the only ones to have a bad experience with Drivalia. Other customers were having arguments with them too. They must spend their whole day arguing with people. Even when we returned the cars there were more arguments with other customers. "

" There were no instructions provided on our voucher from auto europe about how and where to collect the car from when we arrived at Murcia airport. It turned out the Drivalia office was located off-site and we eventually by chance spotted a mini bus collecting some other passengers and we were able to flag him down and we were collected on the next pick up but this took nearly an hour and no one was picking up the phone in the Drivalia office. I have two special needs children who were getting very anxious. Apart from that everything was fine. "

Upon arrival at Mallorca Airport I called the Drivalia office as instructed but I had to call several times to get an answer at approximately 21.40. Eventually I got through and was told to make my way to the car park. There are several car parks at Mallorca airport and it seems Drivalia do not use the one they did on my last visit. I eventually found the pick up vehicle amongst commercial vehicles at the back of the airport. On arriving at the reception desk 10.05 I was told that as it had past 10.00 it would cost a further 40 Euros. Next despite having booked and paid for comprehensive insurance I was told it was not actually comprehensive and I had to pay a further 190 GB pounds to get it. A disappointing experience, I would not use Drivalia again. "

" Where to start!!! The receptionist was extremely rude and made my children (7 & 9) cry. This was their first experience of being abroad and after an excellent flight, this experience was a real come-down, especially as they were in Spain to represent their country in a dance competition. On all the documentation we have from AutoEurope (our hire voucher), the opening hours of Drivalia are stated as open until 8PM, in spite of this and you/Drivalia having all of our booking details, I was met with a confrontational member of staff who insisted they were only open until 5PM and we therefore had to pay an out of hours collection fee of €40. You state that it is not possible to make a booking outside the hours of operation on the AE reservation system. If this is the case, there is a discrepancy between you and Drivalia and you should not have accepted our booking. I acknowledge our flight was delayed by around 20 minutes, however we still arrived well before the 8PM closing time on our voucher and I had made several phone calls to AutoEurope to keep you updated of our journey progress. At no point from booking until arriving at the pick up was I told that the booking was out of hours and therefore I would like to be refunded for a charge levied on me which is your error for not having updated supplier details on your system and therefore accepting our booking times when you should not have. Further to this, when paying the €40 fee, there was no issue with the payment on my credit card being made with chip and pin. I had decided not to opt for the insurance on offer and instead allow Drivalia to block €2,000 on the same credit card mentioned earlier. Upon attempting to place the block on my card, the member of staff told me the block had been declined, despite having a £4,000 credit facility. She "tried" again and once more before aggressively telling me that I didn't have enough credit available or that there was a spending limit on my card (which there is not). At this point, with the first transaction having taken place without issue, I rang my UK banking provider, who informed me that they could see all transactions/attempts and that no spending limit was on my card. They advised me that Drivalia were not putting the block through as a chip & pin request, but rather as a card signature confirmation and that they had to place the transaction as a chip and pin transaction. The member of staff, once again rude said "i've done nothing different" in spite of my bank confirming on a number of occasions that they can see the transaction type was incorrect. Finally, threatening to shut the branch, keep the car and leave myself and my family stranded on a Sunday evening in Bilbao, 50 minutes from our accommodation, gave me no choice but to buy insurance at €150. This behaviour was absolutely abhorrent and fraudulent/mis-selling. Being put in this position made me feel intimidated, threatened and with little choice other than to pay in order to protect my family. You should be absolutely ashamed of the behaviour of this provider. Having agreed to pay the €150, this oddly enough was paid on my credit card (despite me wanting to pay on a different card) using chip and pin... Yes that's right, another transaction that took place using chip & pin, I find it very hard to believe that only the crucial €2,000 block which also needed chip and pin was the only transaction which could not take place. While AutoEurope are just a broker in this matter, you have a duty of care to ensure your partners are operating to a high standard, they ultimately carry your reputation on their shoulders and as things stand you can rest assured that I will not only never use Drivalia again, but I will also never use AutoEurope again either. My expectations in this situation are for you to not only make good for the €40 out of hours fee as this is clearly an error on your systems, but also make good on the €150 insurance that I was frankly bullied into buying/mis-sold. "

" Due to problems with Drivalia called Auto Europe. They contacted the Madrid office and were surprised Bilbao was closed. They advised me to call at 7am the following morning to sort it out. I rang at 9am Spanish time (8am UK). There was no answer. Tried a few more times. Then thought I would try Drivalia. They were open. I explained the situation and they said I could come over. Luckily it was 10 mins walk from the Holiday Inn Express. They made me take out a new contract and pay an additional 144.90 euros to be fully insured for 5 days. I thought I had already paid extra insurance to Auto Europe. While, not happy, I actually wanted to get the Holiday started, rather than spend hors arguing. I then received a battered Ford Focus. Was told not to worry as the insurance covered everything. After the 3rd day a warning light came on, but at least it did not break down. Would not recommend Auto Europe or Drivalia "

When we arrived to collect the car, the damage listed was very vague and actually did not represent anything like the amount of quite serious separate incident related damage, this paperwork had to be amended which took a long time. " I think that this is the third time I have hired a vehicle with Drivalia at Murcia Airport via yourselves. As is evident by the scores I have given essentially Drivalia has provided a worry free experience on each occasion. However the two points outlined above do concern me. "
" There are two aspects to the booking which did cause me concern. Firstly I was told that due to our destination being too far from the Drivalia office (about 120 miles) we would have none of the breakdown cover normally available. Consequently we purchased Drivalia's additional insurance cover for approximately 15 euros for the hire period(I appreciate your standard warning if in doubt about purchasing any additional cover). I am wondering whether your voucher could make it clear for what distance any standard breakdown cover remains effective. Secondly I was told that the hiring was subject to limited mileage, I recall 2000km. I pointed out that your voucher states mileage to be unlimited. The response to this was that in appropriate circumstances Drivalia would have charged you rather than me. In the event I don't suppose that I drove more than 500 to 600km but I was surprised about the information given to me in this respect. Drop off was a smooth experience. "

" Drivalia provided a car without a spare tyre and no means to raise the vehicle to repair a puncture. Drivalia informed me that I needed to pay for a rescue (if needed) and must replace any punctured tyre with the exact same make and model. We managed to temporarily repair the punctured tyre with the help of some locals and obtained an exact replacement tyre, but lost 2 days of holiday in the process. I accept this can happen, but was disappointed in Drivalia's help as it appeared to consist of their demands (for a specific tyre, etc) and not much else. What I found extremely disappointing was that Drivalia said we had to pay €105 to replace the emergency tyre repair liquid we had been forced to use. This is available much cheaper and have to pay a significant surcharge was deeply unimpressive. Drivalia should include a spare tyre and the ability to change it so as to avoid situations like the one we found ourselves in - forced to stop with a bad puncture, on a small mountain road, with no telephone network coverage, late in the day and no means by which to resolve the issue without the intervention of generous local people. "

" Pick up of the car was very good, and car (new Citroen C4) was excellent. Reason for low score was that on drop off, their agent was over zealous with the inspection. I pointed out one scuff to the front driver side wheel trim - I'd actually touched one of the high curbs on parking one day, so knew the cause - but the damage wasn't substantial. Plus, I'd also researched replacement trims on the internet beforehand, so knew that a set of FOUR trims could be obtained for less than £40 (UK). There was no other damage ie to tyre or wheel arch, so a charge of 74.38E is excessive (it will be a straight and simple replacement if done at all). Worse still was the 'damage' he then found beneath the passenger side front headlight. It was barely noticeable - so may even have been present when I picked the car up (I recorded said 'damage' on my phone, but it is VERY hard to see, it is so miniscule) - and I have no knowledge of how it occurred (or when!?). So I was staggered when a further charge of 152.89E was applied (if a repair is needed at all, a quick T-Cut would suffice). I was concerned with my flight check in time, so couldn't discuss this long with their agent, so with a final charge of 49.59E's applied for 'Administration' I had to pay 335 Euros there and then, and in order not to miss my flight. An upsetting and stressful end to a great car hire. I have discussed this with an Auto Europe rep - as I took out insurance - and am awaiting developments. "

" I am a long term AUTOEUROPE customer but not happy with DRIVALIA and will not use it again in Santiago SCQ. "
" 1. Upon arrival no one was waiting to collect us and eventually after 25 mins we phoned them and the mini bus arrived in 10 mins. 2. Not sufficient personal to deal promptly with customers picking up and dropping off car in their offices outside the airport. Other customer were complaining insurance cover and delayed everyone on pick up. We paid extra cover for road assistance as was not included on our 21 days car hire. Also not happy there is a 2000Km limit and it is the same limit hiring for 3 days or 3 weeks, should be extended for longer than 1 week hire in my opinion. 3. Returning our vehicle we were surprised they found a mark almost invisible to the naked eye and I had had to pay 50€ for them to polish it. It took a long time to agree and we paid under protest/duress as we otherwise miss our flight back home. "

" When I arrived, the desk staff were not friendly whatsoever. They tried to scare me into buying an expensive insurance policy from them. I declined as I have external insurance. When I returned the car, the same member of staff (who knew I didn't have insurance with Drivalia) spotted a minor scratch to the paintwork that was less than 10mm long. They charged me 245 Euros. Although I am insured with an external company, it was nevertheless a very unpleasant experience. I am now in the lengthy process of claiming that money back from my insurer. I would strongly recommend you do not offer Drivalia's services on your website. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through the same unpleasant and unfriendly experience as I did. Thank you. "

I offered to guarantee it myself but they would not hear of it. Despite our protests they said the only way he could take the vehicle was by paying their own extra insurance with CDW waiver. As you can imagine we were really annoyed as we had already paid the extra with Auto Europe. It was by now 10.55pm and they were shutting in 5 minutes. We had no other option but to take it and pay through the nose for the privilege. They did not seem to care that we had a disabled person and a 4 year old with us. We were given the vehicle keys and had to find them in the car park ourselves. No instruction or explanation about the vehicle was given. To top it all, my sons vehicle had no windscreen washer fluid in it. So much for checking the vehicle before it goes out on hire. "

" The experience left me suspicious that hirers who choose basic insurance instead of comprehensive will be given a far poorer quality car. This increases the risk of a call for breakdown recovery, which is at substantial additional cost to the hirer if needed. While Drivalia were good, the immediate upgrade to a better quality car upon selecting comprehensive insurance left me wondering if basic cover drivers are being deliberately given poorly maintained cars to increase revenue via callout fees. If this isn't true, perhaps Drivalia should modify their procedures in order that future hirers do not have the same doubts over the motives for the quality of vehicle they are assigned. "
" Initially I was unimpressed as I was offered a Ford Focus which was riddled with damage, scratches and dents. I spent at least 30 minutes marking the damage onto their documentation. Wary of the fact that we may have a poorly maintained vehicle, I chose to take out comprehensive cover instead of basic. Upon stating this I was immediately upgraded to an immaculate vehicle. While I understand that the insurance was optional, I was not aware that taking or declining it dictated the quality of the car provided. With basic insurance the driver has to pay for any recovery call-out, a minimum charge of 250 euros and I felt as if the first car was offered to me on the expectation that it was more likely to fail and Drivalia would benefit from the profit of a recovery fee. This probably wasn't the case, but the manner in which it was dealt with made me feel very uncomfortable and more suspicious of Drivalias intentions. Other than this, the ongoing hire process and the quality of the second vehicle could not be faulted. "

" This was the best of many car hire experiences I've had at Palma airport. Very prompt, friendly but efficient service at both pick-up and return. I much prefer the off-terminal depot to the scramble and congestion in the multi-storey attached to the terminal. Also it's easier to top up the fuel there. "

However other costs including fuel (if other than pick up and return full) and insurance add significantly to the total cost but one has no way of comparing these costs when booking. A company may appear dearer in headline price but have lower initial fuel cost and cheaper daily insurance which clients cannot access/compare before booking. "

Phoned them once & was apologetic to the lady who said it was 4am local as she was in Portland Maine. Always been helpful. Car Hire cost has always been much less than dealing direct with supplier. "
" In common with many other suppliers they offer either Full/Empty (they charged 85 euros for a 47 litre tank of petrol, local fuel price is just over 1 euro/litre). They say the extra charge is for the service cost of fueling. Since January 2014 Spanish law says suppliers should refund for unused fuel. They get round this by saying any refund also has an admin fee deducted from the fuel value & that the tank has to be over half full to give any cash back. Otherwise their service is good, cars in good condition. "

I appreciate that the 'small print' indicates that additional charges may apply, however, in my opinion this experience was a bit of a shock! Nevertheless, I would still recommend Auto Europe but to be aware that considerable additional charges WILL apply unless one is prepared to risk superficial damages, such as scratches and minor dents, for example. In addition, without this daily insurance a large sum will be debited, and refunded if no damage is detected, from the customer's account. "

The one big disappointment was the additional insurance required to cover even the smallest scratch.This additional insurance amounted to approximately 100+euros. I have a separate insurance to cover what is not normally covered, undercarriage, windscreen, etc. However, I was told that if I were not to include the additional daily insurance I would be required to pay 800 euros as a deposit in the event of any damage. This is the first time I've experienced this additional cost in 7 years of travelling in Spain. I strongly suggest that when you receive inquiries for rentacar you state that additional charges WILL be applied or a substantial deposit will be taken. "

" Auto Europe booked me with a small Spanish company called Drivalia. The service from Drivalia was very good, the shuttle that took us from the airport to the rental desk was waiting for us (despite us arriving an hour late) and the same shuttle was ready to drop us back to the airport at the end of the week. Also we were booked for a compact estate but were upgraded to a Kia Sportage free of charge as Drivalia were out of compact estates so every part of the rental experience was perfect. The only comment I would make is that the estate was advertised as a Ford Focus or equivalent however Drivalia only seemed to have Kia Cee'd's so Auto Europe may as well have just stated this. "
