    Driving Information Spain

    Driving Licence Requirements

    To drive in Spain you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. An International Drivers License is highly recommended.

    Age Restrictions

    Generally the minimum Spain age restriction is 21 years, but can vary between the car hire company and location. Maximum age limits apply in some locations, a young/senior driver surcharge may apply.     • Barcelona to Tarragona - 115 kms (1 hour/14 mins)

    • Cadiz to Seville - 124 kms(1 hour/20 mins)

    • Granada to Malaga - 135 kms (1 hour/40 mins)

    • Madrid to Toledo - 89 kms (1 hour)

    Road Rules and Petrol Stations

    General Spain driving laws rules and regulations :

    • Driving in Spain is on the right hand side of the road.

    • Overtaking is on the left hand side of the road.

    • Seat belts when driving a hire car in Spain are mandatory.

    • The use of a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, with the exception of a hands-free system.

    • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid driver's licence, registration documents and insurance documents.

    • Dipped headlights must be used in tunnels.

    • Petrol stations in Spain are open from 8 am to 8 pm with some stations in major cities and on the highway open 24 hours.

    Parking Information

    'Blue zone' parking exists in Spanish cities. Marked by the sign, 'Zona Azul', you may park for 2 hours. Spain Parking discs for these zones are available at most hotels and town halls.

    One-Way Car Hire

    Domestic one-way rentals within mainland Spain are free of charge with most vehicles. Some restrictions do apply. There are fees for international one-way rentals and not all vehicles are permitted.
