    Driving Licence Requirements

    The driving licence requirements in Uruguay state that you must have a full driving licence that is valid in your country of residence.

    Age Restrictions

    If you are looking into renting a car and driving in Uruguay, please note that you need to be at least 23 years old and have held your license for over a year. Some supplier may charge a young driver surcharge for drivers younger than 25 years old.

    • Driving in Uruguay is on the right hand side of the road.

    • Petrol stations in Uruguay generally open from 6am to 8pm with some stations in major cities and on the highway open 24 hours.

    There are only a few tolls in Uruguay, and those are usually inexpensive (between 10 - 15 pesos).

    In main cities, like Montevideo, there are parking lots where you can leave your car hire. Street parking is also a common practice and you'll often find "acomodadores" who will help you park and watch over your vehicle while you're away in exchange for a small tip.

    One-Way Car Hire

    Domestic one-way rentals within Uruguay are possible. Some restrictions and charges do apply. International one-way car hire is not permitted.
