" Easy car hire. Palermo On pickup. I was left outside in the sun with a baby and not allowed to use the waiting/reception room. There was zero shade and had to wait for 20mins in 35c temperature. Car was in ok condition , could of done with a vacuum but not to be fussed with, the look over the car was very fast and before I signed the document I had to point out additional dents and scratches they had not marked. On drop off, I took car to depot only to find in was closed and locked. I later found out they had moved premises during my hire and no one had advised me. On check out inspection they were like Nazi controllers suddenly pulling out plumb weights and rules closing one eye and analysing chassis shape, it was OTT. I watched with with 3 cars before me all of which they found problems with. To my surprise they looked over mine only to find what were presumably 3 stone chips very similar to other marks on the bumper already evidenced on the sheet. To be fair I don't think they were there originally since I looked at a photo but they were insignificant to other markers on the bumper. I was pleasantly surprised when they said they were so small I wouldn't get charged and so signed what I needed to and left. 2 days later I got an invoice for 275 eur. " Shuttle driver drove at very unsafe speeds, very scary both ways, they only have one shuttle bus and cannot cope. When you call on arrival all they kept saying was they did not speak English. He was very aggressive and was shouting at me that I did not understand and was stupid if I thought I did not need it (all in perfect English despite answering the phone and saying to person on the end they did not understand English). On handing over the car to me they asked me to sign but I refused as I had not looked around it, they said they were busy and if I wanted to check it with them I would have to wait 30 minutes. I decided to take a video and photos of the car and signed the paperwork. Car had warning light on dashboard saying oil service overdue. On return they scrutinised the car and went into office, then came back 10 minutes later saying there was additional damage. I immediately disputed it and showed them the video and photos I had taken. They then made me wait another 10 minutes before agreeing it was already damaged on pick up. This company is truely untrustworthy and dishonest and seeking to obtain money from innocent travellers. I think Auto Europe should be ashamed to be using a company like this to represent them. It looks like I was one of the few lucky ones who did not have pay extra or costs. "

On contacting them to advise of late arrival they informed me that my booking would no longer be valid and no refund available. I explained that I was able to come back first thing the following morning to collect the car, but was told this was not acceptable, my booking was now void and I would need to rebook and pay again another vehicle. Luckily, other rental companies were still open when we arrived so we hired a car elsewhere. On return, the agent spent a long time examining the car and pointed out a small dent in a door which we hadn't noticed all week and a small blemish on the front bumper. I did sign, which proved to be a big mistake, as 3 days after returning home, I received an email saying that I would be charged 443 Euros for the damage. The email included photos of the damage, but the bumper damage was a larger scratch to the side of the bumper and not the small blemish that had been pointed out to me. As he had spent ages examining the car, I am not convinced that the bumper photographed was actually on my car. I have now checked reviews of EASYCAR and found many similar complaints "

Upon collecting our vehicle this evening, Easycarhire stated that the day of the return flight must coincide with the return of the hire car. In our case, our return flight occurs several days after our vehicle return. Easycarhire justified their request on the basis that the measure reduces any likelihood that the car will be stolen. In order to allow the hire to go ahead, they demanded that separate insurance would be taken out with them (85 EUR for 24 hours). Easycarhire was unable to produce any documentation in evidence of any change to our original terms and conditions as copied below. 'As part of the mandatory documentation required at pickup, customers must present a valid return flight ticket. If a return flight ticket cannot be provided, the rental agent reserves the right to deliver the vehicle only if the customer agrees to purchase locally the SCDW coverage product.' I would be grateful if you could clarify the terms and conditions with Easycarhire to prevent future customers facing the same frustration that we faced this evening. Either your terms should be updated or Easycarhire should cease this poor practice with immediate effect. "

The counter staff applied a lot of pressure to upgrade with various products. We then had a fault with one of the cars, and the customer service was appalling. We were left without a car for 2 days out of a 4 day trip, so lost a lot of money with no offer of compensation. "

" I have been provided with a dirty car and unable to check for any scratches property on the day of the hire as the car was not clean, had mud marks all over and it was raining heavily. On return I have been accused of damage despite the fact I had no accidents during my hire. " The 2 hour window is an issue. The plane was delayed by 150minutes. The call I made to AutoEurope and also the ECH desk were not encouraging "the rental expires if not executed within 120 mins of the booking". As it turned out ECH did not adhere to this. But travellers should be warned to book the car when they realistically expect to get to the rental office. The 2 hour limit is rubbish anyway because the car by then is paid for for the duration of the rental. Who cares if it is stationary on the lot for a while? "

" The counter staff at arrivals were brilliant. friendly helpful and on the button. However, sadly, the individuals who received the car back were awful and rude. We were met by a young man from London, so we had no language barrier, who said he could not check the car as it was dirty. His tone and attitude were terrible and despite having not damaged the car, only used it on public roads and bought the full damage waiver we offered to wash it if he could give us a bucket. He refused that and just said this is a problem he cannot overcome. I went to the main office at the returns site to seek assistance to be told that it was nothing to do with them and it was up to the guy who was checking the car in to decide what to do. This company is fraudulent, do not ever book with them, they will somehow get you. "

" I was not aware that AutoEurope was a third party rental company. As such we ended up renting from EasyCar, which was not at the airport as we thought when searching for a rental company. Looking at the reviews of EasyCarHire online, I would never have chosen to rent from them, as we had the experience with them. It is appalling that customers are unwittingly sent to them through AutoEurope. I am further appalled that the additional insurance I purchased was invalid, and would request a refund for the insurance I paid for that was useless. please advise how I can proceed with this. "
" I had a very poor experience with Easycar Hire. On collecting the car, we were pressured to buy additional insurance, saying that the additional insurance I purchased with AutoEurope was not valid as they are a third party. This was 140 Euro for 5 days, double the cost of the car rental costs. On returning the car, we were accused of losing the "hat rack" aka parcel shelf - this had been incorrectly marked as present by your staff, however it was not present and we did not have it when we collected the car. We did not comment about this at the time, also because in English we do not call it a "hat rack", but a "parcel shelf" or "boot/trunk shelf". Frustratingly we did not have photographic evidence of this either. On returning the car, the male staff checking the vehicle was very rude in their discussion with me about the absence of the hat rack, accusing us of losing it, and saying that we would have to pay for a replacement, and that it would not be covered by the extra insurance that we took out. We then had to wait 20mins whilst they checked their computer system to then see that they had never provided the hat rack, that it had been lost in a previous rental, and this was an administrative error. The male staff did not apologise for this error - neither for accusing us of losing it, nor for being rude, or making us wait. He instead laboriously pointed out the small damage on the wheel trim - a 2cm scratch next to many other older scratches. It felt very much like he was intent on finding any possible error to charge us additional costs. I do not recall this damage happening but will not deny that it is there. I have since been charged an additional 80 Euro. However the attitude of the staff was unacceptably rude, again saying that there will be a further cost for this damage not covered by the insurance, resulting in a poor end to our car hire experience and holiday. We did not see any other renters experiencing a similar attitude from the staff, and another renter who had seen the exchange when they were returning their vehicle commented that they also noticed that the staff member was unnecessarily rude to us - we were two women, it felt like sexism. "

I was told I would have full protection but I was clearly and rudely told by the car hire company that i didn't have that protection.... I don't think if I am paying for full protection for peace of mind that I should be put into that very stressful position. "

My wife is a fluent Italian speaker and we have used Autoeurope for many years . We were told we had No insurance !! And the counter staff member would not listen to anything we said and dismissed my paper copy of the contract. The pick up staff were more helpful but they had no electricity in the office and couldn't provide a copy of the car condition showing some damage so I had to take a photograph of it ! The dashboard screen was showing a fault saying "contact your dealer "!! I was assured not to worry about that !! I reluctantly accepted the car after taking photographs of all faults. The car did not cause any problems and the return was fine despite my stressful earlier experience. "

They also insisted I used visa and wouldn't accept Mastercard. " I want to raise a complaint following a car rental through Auto Europe and Easycarhire, from the 3rd - 7th October 2024. We booked a car rental through Auto Europe for our recent trip to Pisa for a wedding and was greeted at the Easycarhire rental desk by a woman at 9:30pm Thursday 3rd October 2024. Upon producing all documents, Drivers Licence and Credit card for the booking the woman returned the credit card stating that they could not accept credit cards with an expiration date within 3 months time. I then produced the email from Auto Europe stating that a credit card must be used for a deposit, which had nothing to state that the expiry of the credit card had to be after 3 months from the current date, all it said that was credit or debit cards could be used. I then produced an AMEX card to be used for the deposit hold, to which she rudely replied "we don't accept AMEX cards" - again, no mention anywhere on your site or booking that this was the case. We then had a friend travelling with us who offered to use their credit card for the deposit, and was again met with a rude response from the desk assistant that we couldn't use any credit card not owned by the named driver. After a frustrating exchange and again very rude and unhelpful service from the desk attendant, she said the only option would be to use a debit card, to which we had no other choice. She did forget to mention that in order to use a debit card we would have to pay a deposit of €515 on top of the €70 we had already paid for the car and fully comprehensive insurance. She then stated that we would received €300 back from the deposit, but that €215 would be to cover the "insurance" of the deposit. What I could not believe that was for a €70 car hire for 4 days, that we then had to pay an extra €215 for "insurance" for using a debit card, when in none of your terms or email correspondence about credit cards, did it mention that one of your suppliers would not accept an AMEX card or that the credit card had to be in my name and with an expiry date after 3 months from the date. This is clearly a scam to allow ECH to charge considerably more on the car rental than initially paid for/offered, which is a shocking and unprofessional way to do business. We are frustrated that a business such as Auto Europe works with suppliers such as these, that clearly scam people going on vacation out of money that was saved and needed for the holiday. The experience which took over 1hr to complete was a shocking start to our holiday, made worse by the lack of assistance and rude nature of the assistant at EasyCarHire. I am a very reasonable person who has hired cars in many different European countries, and have never experienced service or such a clear process to scam people as this. I would hope that given Auto Europe is a reputable international company that you would help to resolve this issue now we have returned from the holiday. "

" Major concern was unclear understanding from Autoeurope whether I was covered for non accident car breakdown. This meant I was unsure if to pay extra at the desk for such breakdown. I thought I was covered so did not pay extra but this left me very concerned should I have had a breakdown. This was not covered in documentation from Autoeurope. However, if it was, it was not clear. I did get confirmation by email from Autoeurope but again this was not clear and no telephone numbers were provided for breakdowns. Other than this disappointing Autoeurope issue I was very satisfied with ECH. "

" The company viewed my UK driving licence as EXPIRED! This was because they do not understand the UK licence. They saw that my 4b category for HGV and PSV vehicles was expired. This does NOT mean that the ability to drive a car has expired!! My car capability expires in 2027!! DEspite my protestations, they would not budge. I offered my NZ driving licence BUT they said I needed an International Driving Permit to be acceptable and that in the absence of this, they would have to charge me EXTRA fee !! " I had to wait for 2 hours in a queue to reach the counter staff. From talking to customers after they concuded their business, this was because the counter staff were doing a hard sell on excess insurance. When customers said they did not want to buy excess insurance, it appears they were given horror scenarios of what could happen, until they agreed to buy the excess. When it came to my turn, again there was the hard sell despite me telling the counter staff that I had alreday bought excess insurance prior to coming to Italy. I stood my ground as I have driven in Italy for 20 years, with excess insurance always bought before hand. In the end the counter staff person gave up and completed the paperwork for the car. This really was not a good experience on the first day of our holiday particularly as I had been up at 1.00 am in order to catch my flight to Pisa. Also, when I went to pick up the car, it had been standing in a temperature of 40 degrees and as such, it took an hour of driving in sweltering conditions before the air conditioning would work. "

" We were charged EUR 100 because I didn't have an international certificate for my US driving license. I've rented cars in Sicily many times in the past and this has never been a problem. We paid it because our trip depended on it. The model of vehicle they gave us was poor and it was not in a great state. They took 10 minutes to detail all of the damage on the car. Alas, there were no more charges (so far) but the anxiety and extra expense made this one of the worst experiences I have had renting a car. " Finding easycar in Catania Airport is quite difficult, very badly signposted as there are multiple carparks and multipple hire companies. We had to wait for 2 hours to be seen , in the mean time the reservation expired so we had to convince the people on the counter that we had been there for 2 hours. Delay was caused by people behind the counter pushing Excess insurance to every customer and you could tell that every customer was upset and deeply dissatifsfied. I normally take out a personal insurance to avoid this but as I had no encounter over the last 4 years where this insurance has been pushed onto me I did not do it this year. I have a valid and full UK driving licence but not a photo-card. It does not say I have to have the photo-card, just that if I do have it then I have to have both the card and paper counterpart. I read these terms before leaving and was not worried as it does not say I have to have the card, however, on arrival at the desk they would not accept my licence with passport as photo ID and cancelled the booking. They also would not accept my husbands photo card and paper licence to be an additional driver and said he would have to make a totally new booking which was twice the price we'd already paid so we had to lose the original booking and the payment we'd already made for that booking. "

Thankfully it could be seen on my photos but he did go into the office and on return said that the mark had been missed off the paperwork! " Worst car hire experience i have ever had. This is the type of company that gives the car hire industry a bad name. The hire cost ended up being ten times the original price as I was forced to buy their insurance at over £100 (for 5 days!), and they charged me another 200 euros for two extremely minor points of damage, one of which was already on the market when I picked it up, and one of which was a very, very small and barely visible mark which was obviously from bring tapped by another car door in a car park. The car I was given had multiple areas on damage on pickup, including quite a bad dent on the front passenger door, so they are clearly just collecting money from customers and not actually getting the cars repaired. The whole setup just smacks of a scam and I wish I had hired from a more reputable company. I also wish I'd checked their reviews online as - predictably enough - they are terrible. The customers in front of me on returning the car were also clearly being stung for an inch long mark on a hub cap, so it seems to be their company policy to just bleed customers for all they can. In short, I absolutely DO NOT recommend this company and suggest that they should be removed from Autoeurope. "

" I was told that I brought back the car dirty, and they can`t exam the car properly. There was some rain during my stay so of course the car got dirty, nothing special about that. Then I was told I can leave and then few days later received an email that I`ll be charged 50 euros for cleaning which I found utter nonsense. They need to wash the car before renting it out again. I was given the car with empty tank and brought it back with almost half tank so I asked them not to charge me for cleaning. They did anyway and never got any response to my email. Never had any issue like this before and I`ve been hiring cars for 10 years plus. "

" I have already written to Auto Europe. Car supplied was dirty inside and out making the vehicle check process extremely difficult. Handover representative missed a 1+ metre scratch ( wide spotted). Return process had TWO representatives wiping away grime to identify what they claimed was new damage - 3 very light surface scratches 3cm in length which would polish out. These two people knew I had the extra protection cover (not bought from them) which makes me even more suspicious. Dodgy company... ALSO Auto Europe stated booking was on basis of full tank to full tank....that's NOT what they offer as stated in THEIR T&Cs. "

" The fuel gauge was hard to read on this car. I only realised the tank was not full after I drive for 20mins. But I had to return with full tank. I dont even see any indication that the fuel was full on their paperwork they left me. They also sold me extra insurance for 100Euros even though I said I had full cover from autoeurope and claiming it was highly advisable and they work with autoeurope all this time. They way they make money is no good or professional. "
