" When I made the booking the Auto Europe site stated that EcoVia are at the airport. This is not true, they're offsite and you have to wait for a shuttle bus to and from their venue. Sadly I managed to make a few fairly superficial scratches in the car the EcoVia made a big fuss about this, returning the car took around 45 minutes, which was painful. They also charged EUR 738 for what I consider to be a few pretty superficial scratches. When you need to get a flight home you're not in a position to negotiate and EcoVia took full advantage of this. There were also questions about the other (pre-existing) damage to the vehicle and it was a struggle to get the staff to recognise previous damage which was even listed on the contract. The staff member asked me for my photos of the vehicle, but I had not taken any. EcoVia did not have any photos either, so it turned into a long discussion. This compares very unfavourably with the last time I rented in Sicily with a different company. They were very understanding and reasonable. We will not be using EcoVia again. "

After around 1 hour trying to sort it out we had to accept we couldn't get a GPS option, you can imagine how difficult our journey was about to become. "

" The car was very high mileage and had more scratches than i have ever seen. The roof had loads of dents. We kept getting a warning light about tyre, the tyre management system kept coming up saying tyres pressures were wrong, the pressures kept changing through out day. Didn't change the same difference for each tyre, eg the front passenger was highest, next time the driver rear was the highest pressure. It was totally unacceptable for a hire car and we have been hiring in Italy for over 15yrs, never had a car in such bad condition. "

" We had a bad experience with Ecovia/Autovia. We were less than five kilometres from Bologna airport and in a busy motorway when the front tyre blew out. We had to stop and get towed. We discovered the two front tyres were in such bad condition that the metal was exposed. We were lucky we weren't injured. We returned the vehicle and filed a report to the staff. Five months later Ecovia charged us €250 towing costs. Despite a letter of complaint, accompanied with photographic evidence proving the issue was their fault, they continued to take the money from my credit card. I rent vehicles four of five times a year in Italy and have done for years but Ecovia are by far the worst company I've rented from. They might be cheap but for the sake of safety, inconvenience and ultimate cost I'd pay a few extra Euros to go elsewhere. "

" I have never encountered such rude and confrontational staff at a rental service before. The mini van I collected was in poor condition. It was difficult to identify the number of scratches, dents, scuffs on the vehicle and match with the existing damage inspection sheet. The vehicle was reversed hard up against the car park side and it was raining very hard - I had to pull the vehicle out to open the rear luggage door. On return they immediately saw a fine scratch on the inside of the rear window - very suspicious as it was barely visible - I had certainly not noticed it on collection. They then began accusing me of causing the scratch with skis (we had no skis) and that it must have been us as it wasn't reported by the previous drivers. They maintained it was entirely our responsibility to have recorded it on collection - it was almost invisible and certainly not noticeable in the shadow and rain at the back of the car park. We were 2 adults with 4 young children and did not use the rear seats and only had 2 large and 2 small suitcases. We used the vehicle for 2 trips, 100km to apartment and 100kms back to the airport. Oh yes and the front passenger rattled and wouldn't lock - only discovered when we drove off. Their response when we got back was that if there was no warning light on the dashboard it was ok. "

" We used Auto Europe in September too and had an issue then with an unexpected charge being added to our card. It left us unsure about whether we should be contacting Auto Europe or the car hire company itself, so we contacted both and so far have been ignored by both. I think we'll just hire directly from a car hire company in future. "
" The interior of our initial hire car was absolutely filthy. Halfway through the hire, the EPC and engine warning light came on and the lost power When we called the helpline we were given the option of (a) having the car towed, paying to fill the tank, making our own way back and then claiming back the cost of our transport, or else (b) driving an hour back to the airport regardless of the warning lights, filling the car with fuel on the way and then exchanging it for another vehicle. We reluctantly chose the latter as we needed a car for the remainder of our holiday. We got a slightly upgraded replacement vehicle but it didn't really make up for the anxiety of driving an under-powered car on a motorway or the inconvenience and expense of a two-hour round trip to the airport in the middle of our holiday. Given that the fault lay with the vehicle itself, we would have expected a replacement car to be brought to us rather than us effectively putting in a shift working for Ecovia. "

" I'd like to let you know about my experience with this car booking. My overall experience was appalling. It started very badly, when I found out that the car rental company was not in the terminal, as I'd searched for, and as is shown on your website, but was instead a shuttle ride away from the terminal. I had in fact gone for a more expensive quote due to the fact that I did not want to get a shuttle service to a car rental company, and wanted it to be in the airport. Following this, I arrived in Milan Malpensa airport, later than planned due to a delay on the flight. When I tried to then find the rental company, it was not possible, and so we spent a long time walking around the airport looking for the exit noted on the reservation below. Having failed to find the rental company, or any mention of them, we then tried to call the company using the numbers listed on our voucher. These numbers did not work, having tried several different options. I then proceeded to call your out of hours line, where I spoke to Kelly, who was lovely, and very helpful. She told me that there was a typo on the voucher, and we should be going to exit 6. I was asked to proceed directly to this exit, and to wait for a shuttle to the car hire company. By this point, it was 22:40, and the company hours were listed as only open until 23:00, and the out of hours care was only open until 22:00 UK time. While we waited and waited outside the airport for a shuttle, I proceeded to try and call again, to confirm that the company would be there. After being on hold until after 23:00, I had to make a decision as to what to do next. I then proceeded to the car rental firms inside the airport terminal, and rented a different car from them, to ensure that I could reach my onward destination with my family. This was at a great personal cost to me. I hope you can understand how stressful, and how badly this set us up on our trip, and how my 4 and 5 year old children were affected. By the time we got the car (from the other rental company), this meant that we were over 90 minutes later than planned, and didn't arrive at our destination until at 00:30 the following morning. "

Drop off staff were rude even by Italian standards wanted nothing to do with us even though my wife being Italian! However, the biggest problem was the pick-up and drop-off process: * Pick-up... it was not at all obvious where to get the shuttle bus from. And we had to wait in the blazing heat for 20+ minutes because it was too small for the number of customers * Check in was INSANELY SLOW. It took 15+ mins to process each customer. UNBELIEVABLY inefficient and slot. It is hard to stress how poor it was. It was as if every customer was a total surprise to them and they had to enter every detail into their system, from scratch, several times over. I cannot understand how it could possibly have been so slow. * Drop-off was little better. A massive messed-up pile of contracts behind the desk, with the staff spending 2+ minutes painstakingly searching through to find each customer's contract. The staff were friendly but the organisation was ABYSMAL. The worst experience I have EVER had picking up a car. You should seriously consider removing this firm from your list. "

The car had more marks than on the papers indicated but nobody car handover/return. Take photos of everything! The car itself was fine and cheap but it comes at a cost of a lot of inconvenience. Issues with AutoEurope Claimed I could open a complaint/case on return and once the contract with the car hire company was complete. Despite two emails seeking advice since I returned, I have waited a week with no response. Rang AutoEurope from the airport to advise my flight would be delayed. They did not effectively pass on that message and the Ecovia desk in Turin were not ready with an update or options. When the Ecovia desk were demanding 300euro additional fee I sought advice from AutoEurope. Despite three calls where I was on hold for 10mins+ I could not get through for the assistance and advice I needed. Have not assisted me on return contesting this charge with Ecovia Issues with Ecovia Advised Turin desk was closed as it was 11.05pm when I got to it and they closed at 11pm (despite my booking being for 11pm) Advised that a car was available but would be 300euro extra Did not advise, but was later clarified by AutoEurope that this was an upgrade fee Upgraded car was old, dented and had 75k kms on the clock. Hardly an upgrade. Need for upgrade was not made clear and I assume it was because the desk did not properly reserve a car for my booking, which is clearly not my fault Fee was communicated to me as a penalty for being late Charged 100euro additional to the 300euro just to drive into France "

When we returned the car they said we had made 2 minor dents due to someone opening a car door and causing a dent in the rental car. We have no way of corroborating this and certainly didn't park it next to another car for the entire duration of the rental. They then promised to discuss the photos of the dents with their technical advisor and get back to me within 3-4 days but I still haven't heard anything. I then phoned 4 days after dropping off the car and they told me to wait 7 days and were quite confrontational. "

Had specifically ordered a small car due to the towns I was planning to visit, but no small cars available. Also had to provide 7 signatures on an ipad-type device with no details of what I was signing for. When I asked, I was told that they were "just necessary signatures". As it was quite late, I didnt press them on this. Didn't notice until I arrived at first destination that there was no cover for luggage in the boot (trunk) which meant that bags in the car remained very visible. After returning the car, the assumption was that I had "lost" the cover and they rang me to say that this was a problem. Eventually sorted so maybe no big deal. Car wasnt checked until I had left the car rental area. But- overall, excellent price; a car that worked well and pleasant service. "

Another good point was when dropping off the car. I wasn't able to fill it up with fuel beforehand. The guy I dealt was very helpful, telling me EXACTLY how much I'd be charged for the fuel. I thought this was very impressive and a comfort to know. I got my credit card bill 2 weeks later and it was the same amount he told me. It's because I was travelling back home and not worrying if I was going to be hit with a big bill, and then possubly having to phone Italy to sort it out. I hope to visit Florence again and would be more than happy to use Ecovia there to rent a car. "

" Our flight was delayed by 90 minutes, but we still made it out to what we thought was the collection desk around 9.15 pm (we have hired cars over most of the last 10 years at Pisa Airport and always collected them at the same building). After having waited in a queue at the Auto Europe desk for almost one hour we were told that the Ecovia collection was on the other side of the airport but that it would now be closed. We called the out of hours number without success and were left having to find a hotel in Pisa for the night. The next morning we eventually located the very poorly sign posted Ecovia office and presented our rental documentation only to be told that we had lost our booking due to being late. After significant time spent protesting and complaining we were provided with a vehicle significantly lower in specification from the one paid for. On returning the vehicle the staff claimed that a small mark on the passenger side mirror would be recorded as additional damage (even though it was the sort of mark that could easily have been missed on collection, unlike the two very obvious scratches that were recorded) It was the sort of mark that can be easily removed with polish and only about an inch in length. I cannot come to any conclusion that this is the sort of scam that disreputable rental companies use as a deliberate part of their business model "

" They try and charge a cleaning fee when you collect the car (basically cleaning insurance!) which is 9 euros. If you don't pay and the car is returned unclean they say they will charge 30-70 euros but to demonstrate they just show a picture of a large splash of mud by the wheel arches which in my view depicts excessive dirt. However the car we collected wasn't professionally cleaned anyway and didn't have an floor mats. When we returned the car (which was in a clean state) the first thing they noted was that we hadn't hadn't paid the cleaning fee and it was too dirty. We challenged this as we had photos of before renting and they dropped that charges but it wasn't a good customer experience (helped that one of us speaks Italian) and many others would be bullied into paying. I'm going to avoid them in future. To add to this they didn't notify us that they had moved offices from park and go to the airport so we wasted time trying to return the vehicle to park in go. Really unprofessional and terrible customer service. "

" This company have introduced a new stealth charge namely they expect you to have the car cleaned before returning it (not easy in a foreign country) so that there are no specks of bird poo or flies on the registration plate. If there are any they may charge you up to £60. They offer an insurance against this but no other company has ever tried to add this on to my hire charges before and it is blatantly obvious that they are trying to screw more money out of their customers. There is no mention of this surcharge when the booking is made via autoeurope. I expect to return a car without mud all over it and always ensure that I do not leave papers and other rubbish in the door bins etc. I do not expect to clean mosquitoes off the windows. To add insult to injury, when we went to collect the car there was birdshit on the roof and dead flies on the front of the car! Theyt had not properly cleaned it to their standards. A related point is that, if I am hiring a car that should be road ready, I do expect that the washer bottle has been filled so that I can drive safely and keep my windscreen clear of dirt and flies. In this instance it was empty. When I queried this on returning the cart I was told that the car was almost new - as if this was relevant. In Britain it is illegal to drive without the means to wash the windscreen and I suspect that there are european laws that are similar - therefore the rental company has a duty to ensure that the car is road ready in this respect. "

" We didn't have particular issues with them. The only problem was that when I returned the car they couldn't locate my contract and therefore they said they couldn't unlock the deposit for me. The guy at the desk on that day really did everything he could to find the misplaced contract and, in the end, he managed to release the deposit for me but it took around 30mins... luckily I gave myself enough time so I wasn't stressed about missing the plane. "
