" I made an initial rental in the UK for £129.25. This included the hire and an out of hours charge which I was aware of. There were then additional charges for tolls, insurance etc which I was also aware of. It is the Premium Station Surcharge of 34.86 Euros. I understand this is a location charge, see below. I was not told this was going to be charged either at the time of booking or when we picked the car up at the airport? The whole experience with EuropCar was really good. The booking, the staff at the airport desk, the staff on return etc. But this extra cost has left a sour taste in my mouth. It looks like a hidden charge and a bit of a tax that we should have been told about before we booked. You just called me and are now hiding behind terms and conditions "

" I have used Auto Europe for a long time now, and they continue to offer good value for money and an excellent service overall. "
" Collection was very good, thank you, the counter staff were excellent. And the rental also ticked the box for value for money. However, the car had not been washed or prepared, and the head-light main beam failed during my rental. On returning the vehicle in good condition & with a full tank (at 05:00, out of hours), I subsequently found that existing damage to the car had been added to my Vehicle Condition Report as "new damage" (report timed at 06:30) I have raised this with Europcar's Customer Services and have provided photographs to corroborate my position. So far, there has been absolutely no response from Europcar whatsoever (RA : 7017950774 - Case #20381211 refers). Hence I have rated the drop-off experience as 1/10; I'm extremely unhappy about being held liable for existing damage. The headlight issue and lack of preparation are of no consequence overall. For the record, I have used Europcar for many years in different countries around Europe (including at Faro airport), and I have never experienced a problem with them in the past. But this issue has destroyed my confidence in their brand, I won't be using Europcar in Faro again, nor would I recommend anyone uses them. "

" At Faro airport their office is easily found and their queueing system ( a numbered ticket) worked well and - most important - speedily. The only hiccup was the matter of how much insurance cover was provided by the AutoEurope cover, which turned out to be minimal according to the desk agent at Faro, so in order to be fully insured we had to pay considerably more.. When I booked this booking, it was one of the more expensive rentals - I assumed I would have got a better car by paying more, but clearly not this time. "

" Overall, I was very happy with the car and the service. My only complaint would be that soon after driving away a light started flashing in the instrument panel. I phoned and was told if the car was safe to take it back. I tried asking for some technical advice on the phone, but was told I had to take it in. Porto was a long drive, but I found a Europcar office in Braga and went there. The very helpful man advised me that it was a battery indicator for the hybrid, nothing to worry about and he could have told me that on the phone. He then showed me some of the car's other features which was very helpful and had not been offered at the pick-up point. So we spent the first day of our holiday making an unplanned and unnecessary trip to Braga incurring petrol expenditure we hadn't intended. "

" The car was very scratched with some substantial scrapes. There were too many to actually describe. I took out the full cover at the time of booking thinking it was Europcar but in fact it turned out to be Autoeurope, which is not what I wanted because I want to leave the car after the rental and have no problems at all. So I took out the Europcar insurance as well. I expect it to be dear but for my peace of mind it is worth it - so the Autoeurop insurance was a waste of money! 50 km out a warning light came on and shortly after that there was a message saying the engine was running on reduced power - which was a serious problem on the motorway. We persevered and the following day the warning light went out and the power seemed ok- but it was worrying at the time. "

" I reserved an economy car, Volkswagen Polo or similar, £305 for 2 weeks. Madeira is all mountains with very steep roads. I asked the man about the size of the engine of the car he was going to give me. (I don't remember what type it was.) He said it was 900cc. I asked if was suitable to get up the mountain roads. He said no. I said I would have expected a Volkswagen Polo or similar to to have a bigger engine suitable for Madeira's roads. He said that some Polos are 900cc and the economy category of car was the same as the mini category except with 4 doors instead of 2 doors. He wanted to hire me a diesel car with a big engine for an extra 270 euros. I refused. Then he offered me a 1.3L petrol car, a Citroen Catcus for an extra 170 euros (£150). I reluctantly agreed. I feel that I was badly treated and that I should not have had to pay an extra 50% to get a car suitable for Madeira's roads. "

" Cars are normally quite expensive in the month of September, but this year twice the price of last September. I understand that there are extra precautions that now need to be adhered to due to Covid which means extra costs being passed on to the customer. My normal preferred hire car company is Guerin, but on this occasion when I booked they didn't appear to have anything suitable available. "
" Under normal circumstances, I'm a regular traveller and make use of hire cars. For the first time of using hire cars over many years, I was asked if I wanted roadside assistance at an extra 6 plus Euros a day. I assumed that if there was a problem with a hire car, this would be dealt with as a matter of course. I declined. The car I was offered had a large chip in the centre of the windscreen. I wasn't happy about that and didn't want to take the car. At first I was told there wasn't another car available, but on checking I was offered a Fiat 500, but had to wait for it to be cleaned. This also had a chip in the windscreen, but this was at the left hand side. I had no option but to take it. I wasn't very happy as I'd been up since 3 am and was very tired. I had no major complaints on returning the vehicle, but did advise them that the floor mat on the driver's side kept moving under the clutch pedal. I would think that a company as well known as this would take better care of their vehicles. "

" There was a bit too much 'hard-sell' to try and persuade me that I really should take out Europcar's insurances, but it wasn't a big problem because it only took a few extra minutes! I marked the "condition of the vehicle" down because there was a nasty looking mark on the driver's seat and a lot of dust on the steering column and dash which showed that, in spite of proclamations that cars are cleaned especially well "in the current circumstances", they are clearly not! "

" My only small criticism is that the shuttle to and from the airport to the car rental areas seemed to be a little chaotic. We waited some time to get on and there were longish queues. " I paid more for hiring a car through you than others thinking I was at least going with a reputable company ,making sure before I booked I had a full cover insurance policy that was confirmed by one of your British based employees whose words were "on collection of the car,if anybody try's to sell you add ons tell them they are not required. On arriving jaded and tired and having to wait a considerable time to be dealt with I was then bombarded by a fear mongering sales pitch that I had no insurance and would need to pay an extra 24 Euro per day to be covered.this caused a great amount of stress and left doubt in my mind of whether I was covered or not but on principle I decided to take my chances and deal with any issues with the original booking agent. Hence I will never deal with you again Fair decision don't you think ? Interested to hear your reply but guess there will be none "

" They did not havwe the car that I had ordered and then tried to give us a different car which I knew was a lower grade, and after informing the person looking after us and a quick conversation he had with another about this , they did give us a vehicle in the grade that we had ordered. This is sharp practice, and if I did not have this knowledge I would have been ripped off "
" Not happy about the insurance part, as it appeared that we had got full coverage, but were told that if we got the extra coverage for a price we did not have to worry about the condition of the car and that we could just drop the car off and put the keys into a drop box. It did work well and we were happy not to have to worry about the car and at drop off there were lots of cars, however because we had purchased the extra insurance it was extra easy and quick, so unhappy at first but pleased with the result! However when I got to checkout I realized that I had been charged for the additional driver. I emailed to ask why and had about 6 replies all telling me that our destination was included in that offer. That wasn't obvious at the time of booking so just be aware of that when booking with them. "

" I discussed insurance on the phone and purchased the extra which was for reimbursement if we needed to make a claim. However, at the pick up Eurocar said we really needed to take out full insurance to avoid having to make any claim. Felt we paid twice for cover and will not use a broker again, will go straight to car hire company. "
