Only downside - the interior of windscreen could have been cleaner. This plus angle/reflections onto inner screen from bright sun often caused visibility issues when driving in dark wooded areas between trees. Almost had accident on mountain roads when this happened and visibility was zero! Bad design of screen glass/angle/dashboard top in these conditions! Potentially v dangerous. " Arrived at car hire desk and had to wait for some time. With a small baby and a lot of luggage to transport I had specifically booked a Volkswagen Touran. I was told that this was not available. and a Dacia was being proffered. This was presumably a Dacia Duster into which I did not think our luggage was going to fit. For an additional 70 Euros I was offered an upgrade to a small BMW SUV. I reluctantly agreed to this but on inspecting it I found it had damage to nearly every body panel in the car. Next to it in the car park was a Volkswagen Touran. I went back to the car hire desk rejected the BMW and asked for the Touran. Eventually the keys for it were found and I was told that my 70 Euros was refunded (we shall see). There was then a lengthy delay finding someone from Europcar in the car park to check the car out and note various marks on it. As a consequence our departure from Barcelona was much delayed and our journey to Andorra involved a lot of night driving on mountain roads. "

When you eventually find the return area, there's no one there. Again nothing is checked. Maybe that's the way it's done in Europcar, but I've hired cars from other companies and there was reassuring customer service at the pick up and drop off. At the start of this survey it says customer service is your top priority. In my experience that's not happening. "

Many of the scratches not recorded on the europcar receipt given when picking up the vehicle. 4.) Becuase the car not being washed, again I had to video the car in the daylight (which was next day) and go back again to the counter which was more of my personal time taken up. 7.) I had recorded on the receipt given before leaving with the car more scratches/dents/etc than there were on the europcar statement of return - this shows that europcar do not inspect their cars thoroughly which is highly unprofessional as customers like me are having to do their work.9) I doubt that all europcar customers are aware or even should have to inspect the cars as thoroughly as I was compelled to do. 10.) I was compelled to check thoroughly becuase a customer in the line at the airport told me that their given car had tyre damage and needed to change it. "

" Inevitably Auto Europe has little control over the hire company, in this case Europcar. I have used Auto Europe several times, but frequently find that my arrangement with Auto Europe seems to have little meaning to the hire company (apart from making a basic reservation). The hire company's agents take little notice of what the hirer has arranged with Auto Europe, are very persuasive in promoting additional insurances, and frequently provide a car which barely meets the anticipated standard. I rarely feel I'm getting what I wanted at the price I thought I was paying. "

On arriving at the counter, I was told that my booking (Europcar ref. 1111491606) had been cancelled; and then that another booking had been made for me (ref. 1111513430). I have no idea how this had happened. 2. We had booked a car with GPS, and were told there was only one available: when we got to the car, the infotainment interface was all in Russian; once we had worked out how to change it to English, the display said there was no GPS fitted and that we should use Apple CarPlay; fortunately we had an iPhone. 3. Existing minor damage to the car had not been documented. 4. On exiting the car park at Madrid Barajas, we reached a multi-lane exit barrier but had no exit ticket so had to seek help from the operating staff. There were none but I took a full video of the outside anyway. I rented as a single business traveller, as I do all over the world. Upon return the agent checking the car got immediately into the passenger side which seemed strange. Then gave me the keys and told me to give them back to the office. When I got to the office they told me that I'd broken the passenger side VANITY mirror, hidden under a flap in the passenger side visor. I've not been on that side of the vehicle and haven't had any passengers. Of course no one cares about this as customers lie all the time to avoid damage they have done. The clever thing about this scam is that the amount is just small enough that no one will claim on their insurance, you've already got a deposit big enough to take this out of automatically and no client will EVER open the passenger side vanity mirror compartment when they pick up a car to check if the mirror is broken when they collect the car. A hundred clients could get caught with this scam, that is a lot of money being siphoned from Europcar customers. It's false economy for Europcar too as I'll just rent with another supplier in future and will never rent with Europcar again, a shame as I like the way you've professionalised the pick up everywhere over the last few years to suit the brand, then you get let down by a few shady franchisees on the take. With so much competition in the market positive reviews will be the way you differentiate yourself from the poor quality local suppliers. Mine, and those of other vocal, social media savvy clients will damage that. Again a real shame, but you also DID get the opportunity to put this right, when I contacted your Twitter team, and you gave empty platitudes while pretending you were sorry. " The first thing they did was try to persuade me to pay for an upgrade to a flashy bigger new car which had been delivered the day before. I politely refused all suggested upgrades and was given the Seat Leon estate I had booked and paid for. It was a newish vehicle but covered in scratches and minor dents and I insisted on a member of staff going around the car and pointing out all the listed damage and recording/ signing to additional pre-existing scratches as well. He was very helpful in doing so. I had requested manual transmission but this car had a semi-automatic braking system which I had never come across before so I had to ask another member of staff to show me how it worked, which he did. I doubt I could have worked it out myself! After that, everything was absolutely straight forward and we had a great road trip from Malaga to Córdoba and on to Granada. Great steady work horse of a car on the motorway, a bit gutless up hills! Good on fuel. " I have been misled and charged an additional £214.82 for a so called vehicle upgrade that I was neither informed of or was explained to me. having expected to pick up a VW Polo or equivalent I was offered a VW Golf in 3 colours. I asked for the youngest. The car that I picked up was fine and as with all previous hire car experiences I thought nothing of the fact that it was not precisely what I had arranged through Auto Europe. " I had researched this well and read comments about hard selling of extras and insurance at Malaga. It was unfortunate that this came true and I had to be very strong about showing my Excess insurance that I pay for in England annually. In the end he excepted. Then the car we were shown was dirty full of fly marks, so hard to see the scratches. Then upon checking, the multiple scratches they described were in fact multiple dents and huge ones at that. I have called several times and after very long periods on hold have been cut off. Yes, I know I made a mistake but I was led to believe that there was still hope for a refund but it is impossible to get through to customer service. I have also submitted an online form but have received no response. "

" We rented the car and the lady at Europcar was most helpful. The car ran very smoothly But unfortunately there have been issues. First there was rubbish in the car - an old beer bottle and some.empty packets. Secondly the car.immediatley said it needed a top up of washer fluid. It should not have been given to us in that state Thirdly after a day of driving the car another sign came on saying add adblue. We stopped at two petrol/gas stations and nobody even knew what it was. On doing some research we discovered it is somehow added to the diesel but we have no idea and it should have been checked and topped up before the car was given to us. Lastly and most important of all whilst travelling around Spain we were relying on Waze on our phones which worked perfectly. however both USB ports in the car did not work and so we were left stranded on a number of occasions as we were relying on the usb ports to charge our phones. This caused much stress as we ended up going totally wrong and in circles. We had five young children with us in the car! We are really disappointed and await your comments as soon as possible. "

I found him very brusque and difficult to understand what he was saying, he told me that if I wanted to use my visa debit card I would have to pay extra and have extra insurance - I said that I had already paid for insurance and he said 'yes, but if you want to use the visa card you will have to pay more for excesses' there were three prices, the lowest was 150 Euros, I said I would have to do that then and he said, that is just for one excess - I still didn't understand why I had to pay extra, but since there was no other way around it, I had to pay, he said he would take 450 Euros out of the account. When I returned the keys, I was in a queue, a man came out and took the keys and asked if the car was ok, I said it was. I thought later, that I should have asked if I was automatically being refunded. I was very distressed by the approach of the first man and especially since other people have used debit cards to hire cars without any problem and without having to pay extra. My husband is writing to the CEO to complain about this treatment. I will never use Europcar again and have already been advised, by people living in Lanzarote, not to use them. "

" When looking to book a car all extras should be clear at the start and then this would stop hard sale for extras when collecting a vehicle. This would also stop people feeling they have been coned. The car hire industry needs to improve its image and the above doesn't help. "

" my car rental was for one day only from 10 to 10 ... I was very happy with the experience of my details being available and the speed I got served. It was easy to get the key and the child seat - was a bit shocked that in this day and age the car did not have a build in navigation system and hired a Tom Tom just in case ... Tom Tom was set to spanish but again the speed of someone being available and helping me sort it was brilliant. The car had a warning light regarding the pneumatic pressure of the tires or something and had to be investigated. They could not fix it and had to provide me with a replacement car - that delayed me overall by approx 1 hour. Which if you are trying to get to the beach with 4 kids was quite a long time. Anyway the drop off was a nightmare ( I decided to drop off late at night rather than early the next morning ... the drop off car parks are easily overlooked and when I tried to get to them after I did not fancy leaving the whole airport again to drive back in. I spoke to someone that was locking up and she advised that it was ok to park in a pick up place near the key box and leave the Tom Tom in the glove compartment (under no circumstances should I put it in the key box as previously advised). I left and emailed at 8Am the next day before the actual drop off time - but to this moment I have had no acknowledgement that you have got the car and or the Tom Tom in it. ... Guess this was not all within the hands of Europcar but thought you might want to know. "
