" The only thing I would say is that Hertz have started charging a £25 fee to cross the border to Ireland. Everyone crosses the border as it is only 15 mins away. I can understand with brexit etc and insurance costs but the last two cars I have had from here are Irish Registered plates....so unsure why I am being charged to drive an Irish registered car into Ireland! Due to my BA flight been cancelled at short notice I attempted on seven occasions to have the pick up date and time changed, but without success? Contacted Auto Europe at 6.45am on the day of the pick up and explained that my BA flight had been cancelled and that I was rescheduled for the following day and would not be able to pick up the car at 9.30am as planned. The agent said that she would email Firefly with my request and to contact Firefly later on to confirm if they made the change. Spoke to Firefly at Belfast City airport at 11am and the person said that they had not received any email request for a change of pick up time or day. Again contacting Auto Europe another four times during the day, I think I was being given the run around, putting me through to Firefly, which eventually ended the call. The last person I spoke to, having asked would I have a car hire the next day, said that the car hire had been cancelled and that I would not be getting a refund. "

" Drop off, the inspector honed straight in on the nearside rear tyre, ignoring the rest of the vehicle. The tyre had two small cuts in the sidewall. The car displayed a dent in the nearside rear door and scratches around the sill both Infront and behind the tyre. All of which were evident and shown on the pickup photo. When I protested the tyre must have been in that condition on collection, I was told that was impossible and I should have checked the tyres before taking the vehicle. Even if I had I doubt I would have noticed the cuts, both not being obvious. Consequently I was charged for a new tyre and given a number to appeal. I now feel that I am party to some kind of scam and very dissatisfied with the whole hire process. "

When I arrived, however, the counter staff told me that I was late, they had no cats available, and it was all my fault! Apparently, I should have notified them on the day of the rental. Indeed, I was effectively accused of lying about the phone call because "no one would have told me what they did." I also rang AutoEurope but there was little you could do after 7pm that day. The next morning I rang the counter again, and this time spoke to someone different. After hearing my story, he got me a car later that morning. So all was not lost, but I still lost a day's rental "

" When I eventually found the reception I was told that I couldn't take the car as my use of my wife's credit card wasn't acceptable (the driver had to have a credit card). Although I was shown this clause by the receptionist (Hertz employee) and I agree that I had overlooked this when I made the purchase. Why did the booking system not flag this up? When I put in the details it didn't have a name that was remotely like mine. Although we have a joint account. We have frequently hired cars in numerous countries and never had this problem. I was told that my Firefly insurance wouldn't cover the insurance. But if I took out cover with Hertz it would be ok to drive the car. I contacted Auto Europe/Firefly at the time and they said the original purchase and insurance cover was adequate and acceptable to them for me to take the car? But the Hertz receptionist over ruled them. So I took out the Hertz insurance which was considerably more than my initial purchase for full cover by Firefly. I asked for a refund of my insurance cost from Hertz but they said it was out of their hands? As the contract was with Firefly? And I would have to contact them. I did this the following day they have acknowledged receipt of this but I haven't heard from them since. I hope you understand why I can't give you a favourable rating for some of your requests. " Overall very good. Very easy collection and drop-off, partly due covid-19 rules. Only downsides were: 1) Cost of taking the car over a national border was higher than had been quoted 2) The drop-off process meant the car was not checked until well after we had left (again, due Covid I think), so if any issues with the car were raised by firefly, it would make communicating and liaising between the customer and the provider much harder, and potentially puts the customer in a harder position to argue their case as they aren't physically present with the firefly rep to look at the car together and discuss any issues. Fortunately, this wasn't a problem for me - but I was a bit unhappy about the prospect of not having any information about deductions and costs incurred (if applicable) until 3 days after the rental. "

" I have used Firefly on many occasions and it has always been a good experience but unfortunately this time as I drove out of the airport a warning message came up saying tyre pressure was low and I must stop at nearest garage. I duly pumped up the tyres (all four were very low,) but I couldn't reset the gauge so the message continued to be displayed. Two days later I checked it again and once again the tyre pressure was low (this time only one). This caused me unnecessary hassle as I no longer felt confident that the car was road worthy. I then had to spend time emailing for assistance, taking the car to a garage and having the tyre repaired - all of this added to the stress I was already under as I was hiring the car to visit my mother who is at end of life. Whilst George Evans was very helpful in getting things sorted out I do feel the tyre pressure is something which should be checked before allowing a car to be rented out. The car had a tyre that had been patched and this was leaking hence causing the problem - this is not what I expect from a reputable company such as Firefly and I have been disappointed. "

This has been the Lousiest car rental I experienced in 22 years I have been traveling around Europe using rental cars. "

" The brand came across as a low budget, low customer experience, low value cars not in good condition. Whilst I have hired similar vehicle types from other providers, they have always been in better condition and the overall experience has been smoother. Also, when you do hire a car with several marks and they email the pictures to you so you can 'check' if there are any others when you collect the car, that assumes that everyone has access to their email on their phone. Also, the alternative of taking a picture doesn't really help as you are them stood outside in bright sunlight trying to zoom in on a picture of a picture. Overall, not a satisfactory experience and would not like to use again if given a choice or would not recommend. "

" I hired a car with you and received no emails from your company and when I went to pick it up I was told that I would need a credit card as I don't have a credit card I could not get a car when I rang your customer services all I was told was that I should have read the email from your company telling me that I needed a credit card to get my car from the airport when I explained that I never received any emails from you all I kept being told was that it was in the email that your company sent me and then low and behold I received an email from you while I was standing at the counter of the rental company which by the way was in a foreign language so no I didn't receive a vehicle so had to get a taxi your company is the worst car hire service I have ever used and your customer services are even worse with no regard to leaving some one stranded if this ever happened to a pregnant lady in a foreign country the stress your company caused could have been catastrophic "

After 20 minute wait a second desk opened up and I was the next in line but still a very large queue. " The overall expierience was fantastic however on arrival at belfast city airport we were allocated a southern irish plated car,obviously the troubles in northern ireland are a long time over but we were advised by friends of ours living in belfast(and due to having family members that have served in the miltary,myself included that know of the history of the troubles)that it would be unwise to go to certain areas of belfast driving said rental car which kind of soured the whole expierience of driving around belfast visiting iconic places...we missed out on quite a few places that would have like to have visited if say we were in a Northern irish plated car,just something to bear in mind for your future rentees. It was only when I interrogated this that it became clear that I could avoid the fees by making the call myself - something that took less than a minute. In light of this, this charge is both unnecessary and excessive. Even the DVLA staff member was shocked when I explained to them that the car hire company ordinarily charged £15 to make the call. This alone would definitely make me less inclined towards booking with the company in the future. "

" When I took delivery I was unable to see over the wheel and the car was not able to be adjusted .I was told that there wasn't another car .I asked if they had a cushion .I was given a child's booster cushion that someone else had donated To say it nipped by bottom was an understatement. I told the assistant so and he promptly took the cover off ,broke off the two wings of the seat and told me it would be £5 a day to hire it .He wasn't unpleasant but I told him that it must be a joke! I therefore bumped my way around Northern Ireland on a child's booster seat !!!!! 15 minutes after taking the car the oil light came on .It was a Friday evening, nowhere in the country was open so I had to wait until the next day and drive slowly. The garage told me it was an electrical fault and there was plenty of oil in ,The light stayed on the whole time so I visited 2 other garages just in case. Next ...the alarm went off all the time for example ....12 times an hour for 30 secs up to 2 minutes ,then it wouldn't go off for 2 hours and then start again.Before you ask I had nothing on the passenger seat so it wasn't the warning for the put your seatbelt on . The last day was the most frightening....I was driving on a Motorway to Belfast and it went off almost constantly .There was a very string smell of fish and chips ,,,I can only say it was an oily smell.All in all it was dreadful "

After much debating the representative refused to change the car, I even asked to be moved down to a lower grade car, but he refused, saying it was the only car that was available. On then inspecting the car before leaving the car was still dirty, I don't believe it had been cleaned between rentals. On the condition of the vehicle it stated that there was no damage on the car. After having a look around the car we found a dent, some scratched and chipped paint on the bonnet. As the car was still dirty the representative agreed to mark the heavily dirty areas as marks, as we would have had to wash off the dirt to see the paint work. Not at all happy with this car hire. "

Also felt all extra charges should be clearly explained upon booking not when its too late at the desk collecting the keys. " Firefly turns out to be a sub-brand of Hertz. They use it to rent out their older crappier cars and obviously think that using a sub-brand will protect their master-brand. That is the sort of information Auto Europe should be highlighting to their customers so that, forwarned, they may take sensible steps to ensure any given car is really going to meet their needs. There is no reason why Auto Europe cannot demand rental companies tell them what car types typically make up say 80 percent of their fleet at any given location. Your current processes are lazy and just not good enough. "
" Whilst appreciating that Autoeurope cannot illustrate the precise car a customer will actually pick up there really does need to be some sort of common sense link. We booked a Renault Clio or similar. We were offered some unpronouncable brand which looked like a Noddy car and was obviously smaller than a Clio. This was important because as a family holiday I had deliberately not booked the cheapest car available but had chosen to trade up two sizes. When I asked for something more similiar to the Clio we were offered an Opal Corsa with 40,000 on the clock, a part worn tyre on the front axel, no radio ariel (and hence very poor radio reception) no air conditioning despite specifically booking air con, a speedometer marked only in KPH despite being in the UK (is that even legal?) and the car's information sysytems in Polish and no obvious way to change it. A really disappointing experience which negatively impacted the entire ten day holiday. "

" We were sunned at the speed the operator explained the new concept of buying a full tank of petrol there and then instead of filling up at the end before returning. As we only there for 4 days we weren't given enough time on the spot to calculate a new issue of whether it would be advantageous for us to agree to the new idea.. Before we knew it we were asked to sign for the full tank... We were only there for 4 days.... The operator should have given us more time to consider and not bludgeon us to quickly decide if it was worth it especially not know ing the fuel consumption of the the new upgraded one we were offered... So we returned the car will still half a tank of petrol init! Feeling peeved for the 4 days that we had given away over £25 petrol... that we wouldn't have paid for on our short trip. That's why we aren't totally satisfied with the operator and company... Now if you were to refund the half tank of petrol as a good will gesture, no doubt our next survey will give you flying colours in all departments. This was a new offer and not expected, threw us off guard and should have had more info and TIME to calculate whilst in a queue.... When I arrived back at the airport I had to go through all the paperwork again patiently. I was advised I was getting an upgrade even though it didn't look like one and was inconvenienced by having to email firefly and explain what was going on . Half my day was wiped out, I got a new car with 3000k on the clock, and parking sensors not working. The whole experience was really unprofessional "

" When I picked the car up, the experience was excellent. When I dropped the car off it was a VERY different experience. As soon as I dropped it back the Hertz man was inspecting the car, within minutes he had found a chip on the windscreen. The chip was so tiny, I would have never seen it when I picked the car up, it was in my line of slight when driving and I hadn't even spotted it. It was like Dave knew exactly where to find it. I was then charged £400 for a new windscreen. He knew that I had no choice and as we were clearly in a rush I didn't have time to argue the charges. He told me not to worry and to contact the complaints teams and it would all get sorted. I contacted the complaints team when I got home. To say that they were unhelpful it an understatement. Hertz customer service is an absolute joke. I did not take out a Hertz insurance policy as I have my own insurance for hire cars. Hertz didnt know this and I feel as though they charged me this as they thought I had no insurance. I would love to know how many other people have been charged for this 'chip' as it seems Hertz must make a lot of money on the side by charging customers damage for damage which they haven't caused. Hertz do not take photos of the windscreen prior to you taking the rental and its clear to see why, I would have had to go over the car with a magnified glass to find this chip. I can not prove that it was caused in my care, but they also can not prove that the 'chip' was not there when I picked it up. I am a fair person and had I caused the damage I would have no problem in sorting this out and paying the money, like I said I do have a private policy for hiring cars. I would not recommend FireFly or Hertz, awful customer service and smug workers when you drop the car off as they know you have no choice but to pay. AVOID HERTZ AND FIREFLY!! "

" Very hard to find counter in airport. It was not clear on the voucher Firefly are actually Hertz. Hertz requested paper copies of a proof of address such as bank statement or utility bill which I dont usually travel with, otherwise they were not going to hire me the car. This policy was not outlined during the booking. It caused much inconvenience Once the car was picked up it did not have a full tank of gas, which I payed for. They send the pre-inspection report by email. So if you dont have a smart phone or internet there is no way to check the pre condition. I had to do a hand sketch of all the damage tat took extra time Staff did not check the vehicle once I returned it "

On returning the car, the chap in charge immediately flagged a chip in the alloy on the left front wheel. This was not apparent in the photos I was shown when taking the car, so he attributed this to me in quite an aggressive manner. These photos however were not clear enough to show detail of the alloys. We subsequently took further photos of the car when I returned it. The so-called damage was not apparent in these photos either. I had a flight to catch and could not contest this for any longer. I completed a form explaining my position on this, however have not heard anything since. I was assured this form would be emailed to me within 15 minutes - that has not been forthcoming. I am most dissatisfied with this standard of service and the accusations. I most certainly would not recommend Firefly and would warn others against using them. "
