" Even though my flight was stated to arrive after 9pm, they were going to charge a EUR 50 charge for dealing with transaction after 9pm. They were going to charge extra EUR 20 for cleaning and EUR 30-40 for taking the car on a ferry. They also were stating other fees which we have to pay. The car cost was becoming 4x the actual cost of the hire. We decided in the end not to rent the car at all, because economically it was not worth it. Also, the instruction to get to the place was not clear, it was hidden in a side road with no lights and no visible big sign to say where it is. We spent 20 mins trying to find the place. "

" Just an absolute horror when it came to sorting the holding charge for the vehicle. Without a satisfactory resolution which cost us far more than is reasonably acceptable. To understand the level of frustration we endured at the start of our holiday, I shall take you back to the point of booking the cars.... Our initial booking was via third party and we included insurance for the vehicles through them. Paying for insurance with the third party company at the time of booking, pretty common practice. All was well at this point. However, the rental company, Garage, tried to claim this wouldn't cover us at the time of collection and tried to get us to pay a further nigh-on 200 Euro's for some insurance charge they appear to have made up on the spot as well as a holding charge. Luckily our friend who made the booking for us noticed this was happening and intervened. The real gripe with this company though was because of the utter horror that I had to endure. When I offered up my credit card for the holding sum, it was refused due to being out of date, ok fair enough, my bad. But, when asking if another of our party could front the credit card, or if they could use my debit card for the holding charge; both of these options being fine in multiple other countries and with multiple other rental companies, we were told no, has to be a credit card, has to be a credit card in the name of the named driver.... I was left with no other option but to be forced into paying a drastically inflated charge of 405 Euros. That's at least double the industry average for a full payment of insurance and other coverages. The 405 Euros was for premium insurance, premium breakdown cover, a cleaning charge, and a prepaid tank of fuel. The rental company attendant also claimed that any fines for parking or speeding would also be resolved and covered in this cost which, as much as I was tempted to test, did not as I'm sure this was just another lie made up to try and get us in some kind of trouble over. Overall, the car was fine, except they didn't even fill the screen wash up. Returning the vehicle was smooth with no further issues. I left the tank empty and the car was filthy from being packed under tree's and driving on dusty roads. but even still, if you get a car rented out by Garage, try to get that changed ASAP. "

" The rental location was initially difficult to locate but after finally finding it everything was dealt with in a polite and professional manner. My only issue is when the initial terms state the vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and should be returned the same at the end of the rental. When you then collect the car and the tank is only a quarter full it is unfair on the renter as it is not as easy to return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel in the tank. We ended up returning the vehicle with over half of fuel resulting in the vehicle hire company benefitting from over a quarter of a tank of fuel as reward for failing to comply with the original terms of the rental contract. "

Garage No 1 is not just opposite. Our flight was 2 hours late getting to Dubrovnik, we called the number for Garage No 1 as we could not find it, we were told to wait where we were as someone was coming to collect us (me, wife and 3 young kids at 1100pm). Noone showed, this despite calling again and being told they were on their way. Another hire company helped us by taking us to the Garage office, noone there lights off. Called the number again, told again that someone was coming. Waited for another 45 mins, noone showed, had to pay for a taxi to accommodation (€70). Arrived at just before 0100. Very poor. Tried to Contact Auto Europe on the helpline and via Twitter, no reply or help given. "

" I was unhappy at purchasing the extra insurance, only to be told at Garage that it was useless and that the car was insured through them, not auto Europe. As this was a bit of a shock I ended up taking out one of their excess policy's costing me an extra £150 on top of the additional £50 that had been paid to auto Europe to upgrade. The small print of my auto Europe contract does state that my cover was a claim back process for the insurance but this is not really how it was sold and I had to properly search to find this information after I had paid unnecessary additional money. I felt this was in essence mis sold and definitely soured my experience with Auto Europe. "

Option 1 was to pay £220 Euros to cover any damage excess which I would get back when I returned the car and on the condition there was no damge. Option 2 was for them to take 900 Euros from my Credit Card credit card to cover any damage. I expalined I had already paid extra when booked the vehicle for full cover which included any Excess cover and and damage waiver. The woman told me that if i didnt that didnt make a differnce and that I still had to pay either 220 Euros, or 900 Euros as if i didnt and had an incident I would need a full Police Report have the £900 taken from my Credit Card and then try and claim it back when I returned. To stay the hassle I decided to take Option 1 and paid £220 Euros as this covered me for any incindent. I was promised id get it back providing there was no damage. I retuned the car to find on arrival there was nobody there in the office. I ended up taking a video of the vehicle, in the scorching heat, to prove there was no damage, or scratches. A neighbouring Rental car company next door assisited me in telling me where to park the car and where to put the key. I had the car for three days when I dropped it off. I was in Croatia on holiday for 2 weeks and after dropping the car of was there was a further 11 days. Still the 220 Euros had not been credited back to my card. On my 14th Day I had a Taxi drop my wife at the airport, while I went back to Garage to find out why after 11 days, my credit card had not been credited back with the £220 Euros. They told me it had, but it has now been nealry 2 weeks and I am still waiting for the 220 Euros to be credited back to my Credit Card. The girl at the Garage Office told me it could take up to 2 onths which i disbelieve. "

I've never driven an automatic and specifically booked a Opel Corsa (or similar) with manual drive. We were first offered a SUV but I did not want such a big vehicle so finally had to accept the only other car avaialble - a Skoda Octavia, larger than I wished. The other problem I encountered was compulsory additional cost to the fee already paid to Auto Europe. Despite entering my age at booking I was told as an older driver I had to pay another £70 and, because we were taking the car on a ferry, another £70 . We were given no choice but to pay but if this had been made clear intially - it wasn't - I would not have proceeded with this booking. It felt very underhand and that we were being exploited. " The car was good and I was also upgraded to an automatic. The staff were polite and helpful. We had had to wait in queue with a number of people after us as well. My biggest negative issue was that I had deliberately gone with the company because they had offered full-to-full fuel, but when I arrived I was told that I could buy a full tank of petrol from them or fill up at the petrol station, ie the car was not provided with a full tank without further payment. The man at the counter told me that my journey would require a full tank and that it was cheaper to buy from them than at the petrol station, so given the pressure of time I agreed and paid an additional €79. However, this turned out to be more than I needed for our trip. This is one of the reasons why I deliberately chose a company that offers full-to-full: to avoid overspending on petrol. "

" My experience in dealing with Auto Europe was very good. You found a car for me quickly and on good terms (as it looked on the offer). My only concern is the one I described above. I wish I was given all that information about Garage's terms before signing up. I would have definitely looked somewhere else. "
" The main problem was insurance. When I pick up the car I was offered to buy additional insurance for 350 euros (almost the cost of my rental). They said the insurance I bought with Auto Europe has nothing to do with them (their words). The froze 1,000 euros on my credit card which would cover the excess in case of an accident. The min excess would be 300 euros. They said that even if I get a minor scratch on the car (doesn't matter if it is my fault) I would automatically be charged 300 euros unless I buy their insurance. They said they would of course provide me with confirmation of those excess charges and I could try to get my money from Auto Europe. But that would be entirely between me and your company. I hired cars all my life and that was the first time I came across such an arrangement. That would certainly put me off from dealing with them again. "

" As above question 3. I also think staff need to be more helpful with car and hos everything works - we hadn't driven in another country for many years, so needed more help, but because one man on his own, this was not possible. "
" Because only one member of staff, it is a lengthy process. We had an issue with payment for border control card of 75 euros - we would not take cash abd would only take card in same name of booking. This was not made clear when we booked. Paying with a card caused us charges. "

" You need to explain the fuel policy better. You over charged me for fuel telling me it is cheaper when it was not and we did not need a full tank for our trip. Charged an extra 50euro for turning up after 9pm when we were there on time but had to sit and wait for you to deal with 4 other customers before us. Felt ripped off "
