" Be wary of Gobycar Rented a car at Girona. The collection of the car was pretty simple and it seemed to help that I had done the pre check in online as people in front of us in the queue were taking an age. I took out my own rental cover insurance as their premium was very pricey. If you only go with the basic package please be careful of these charlatans as they will find something. I would advise having a good look around the car inside and out and taking pictures before putting in your suitcases. When I returned the car, very quickly they pointed out a small paint chip on the inside of the boot like they already knew it was there. I had only checked the paint work on the outside so was done for £200. I was pretty sure we hadn't done the damage to the car as we only used the boot to carry a couple of carry on bags to and from our villa, but the check in person was very threatening when I tried to plead innocence and demanded a photograph of the damage from before we took the car. In the end we were in a rush to get to the airport so had to cave sign the check in form. Also, don't bother emailing their customer services as you won't get a reply. I have sent several emails to the customer services email address requesting an invoice and photos of the alleged damage but have not yet received a response, not even an automated "thanks for the email" message. Their customer service is awful. "
" Scammers. As many other Trustpilot and reviews state, they put pressure on us to take out additional insurance saying we would not be covered for damages even though we had taken out insurane through AutoEurope. When we retured the car, they man inspecting it rubbed some earth/dust into the wheelarch and said that there were some scratches and demended money for it. He said a leaf could have done it after we said that we had not had any contact or incidents with the car. We asked him to prove they were not there before we took the car out. He said he had photos but would not share or show them. When I contacted customer services for the contract agreement and photos when returned home, they did not provide any photos of the car prior to us hiring it either - it was just blank spaces. They were rude and quite threatening when we said that we would not pay any money until they could prove the scratch was not there prior to us taking the car. They then took money from our credit card without our permission when we returned home without providing any evidence. When I range Auto Europe, I was told by a customer adviser that this was common with this company and they get many complaints about them and for similar stories. He knew they were scammers but the company still insisted on doing business with them. I wish I had read the reveiws which state similar story before we used them. "

" The car i was assigned had previous damage on the passenger side. This was pointed out to me; however, what was not was the damage to the tyre, which pomptly exploded on the highway. Luckily there was a spare tyre, i was able to fit. reading the insurance i was not covered for tyres, so i took the car to a tyre shop and they replaced the tyre (€196) and pointed out there were puntures on the front tyre, which they repaired at an additional cost. I was also informed by the tyre shop that there was damage to the brakes from the previous collision and these would need replacing ASAP. When i delvered the car back to Gobycar, i explained all of this, however, i feel this may have fallen on deaf ears as they have now got a car with a new tyre ( which should have been replaced before another person hired the car) and aa repaired front tyre. Customers should not be given a defective vehicle where it is obvious there has been a collision before being thoroughly reviewed by a qualified mechanic "

AutoEurope had no Out-of-hours contact available on Saturday 21st December - just an answer message (despite there being an Out-of-hours number on the car voucher), so when GoByCar's shuttle failed to show up, we were left on our own (in the empty car park of a foreign airport with a young child past her bedtime). It was not the best start to our Christmas holiday. The following day, there was an agent on the Out-of-hours number, who was efficient and contacted GoByCar to arrange collection. "
" Our flight into Lanzarote was delayed by 45mins, landing at 7:50pm. As an experienced user of rental cars, I did not consider this a major issue. Our first problem was that the pick-up details on the AutoEurope voucher were incorrect, stating "Follow the yellow line bus until the lift and go to the first floor to take the shuttle". This took us to the airport bus station, but through asking around, we discovered that the car hire shuttle left from space A11 in the terminal car park across the road. This entailed dragging all our bags (and car seat) back to the terminal and across the road to the car park. Still not a major issue. My call log shows I first called GoByCar at 8:50pm. They have a message on their phone reassuring customers that a shuttle is on its way, and to be patient and await its arrival. However, as time went on and other passengers were picked up by their rental companies, leaving only my family in the car park, I made six further calls to GoByCar (same message, but we could choose "option 1" to let them know we were still waiting), and attempted to call AutoEurope's Out-of-hours number - which unfortunately just had a message that the office was closed. (I also called the main office number in case this was a mistake, but that had the same message - it seems there was no out of hours service that evening). Eventually, at around 9:45, we talked to a passing policewoman who asked one of the other company's shuttle drivers to take us out to GoByCar's lot. It was locked up, and the lights were turned off, so we returned to the airport (now well after 10pm). The other rental companies in the airport either had no cars available by that time or were extremely expensive, so we took a taxi to our accommodation (a long way from the airport), arriving at around 11pm. The following morning (22nd December), we called AutoEurope and returned to the airport to collect our car. There was no apology from GoByCar, who simply stuck to the fact that they closed at 9 and their system hadn't logged my phone calls prior to that time. I rent cars abroad regularly (3-6 times a year), and have done so for many years, and I have never before not been able to collect my car. A 7:50pm arrival on a Saturday is not late at night for a busy airport, and it is not unusual for a flight to be delayed by 45 minutes. I accept that GoByCar's office hours end at 9pm, but I would expect any hire company to have the flexibility to accommodate a short delay if they are aware they have prepaid customers still to pick up their car, especially given that this was a 10-day hire. Other passengers were being shuttled to their cars, and the other rental companies we spoke to were perplexed that GoByCar had closed dead on 9pm (arguably before, since I called at 8:50 after we had already been waiting for the shuttle). Furthermore, GoByCar's answer phone message should state that they are closed when they are closed. It should not continue to tell customers that a shuttle is on its way after they have closed up the office and gone home. This would have saved us a long, anxious wait in a car park, as well as a pointless trip to their office and back. No refund or compensatory upgrade was offered. "

When we went to pick it up they said they would give us an automatic but then said it would 60euros more then went into taking out insurance I told them that I had taken out insurance in the UK but they just pushed there insurance saying if a palm tree brushed the car it could scratch it and all other things until I didn't want the car I was frightened to get in it It would be 150 euros for any scratch and that they would inspect it rigorously and it could take 30 minutes talk about scare tactics do no it was an asv experience and I would mog go with them of you again because I have used Auto Europe many times at the airport and highly satisfied which I thought I was doing the same again not going with Gobycar £166 euros if we didn't fuel it to full "

I was not impressed that the car we had requested was not available, and nor would it have been as they did not have that model, despite being advertised on the Auto Europe website. Plus just checking your rates, I see we were charged nearly £100 more than the current rate. "

There was no instruction how to set the air con, how to turn the lights on or how to operate the SAT NAV. This is a new design which had screen controls, not buttons to turn things on and off. Furthermore, 1 hour after we had left, we had a warning message to say we needed to fill up with Adblue immediately. When I eventually got through to the office, they told me to bring the car back. I was 1 hour away. Not likely. I said I would get some Adblue and they will have to reimburse me on return. The car should have been checked and topped up before it was offered for rental. A disastrous start to the holiday. Not happy "

" Absolutely spot on, I was concerned about being off-airport but was c5 mins away and directly off the next TF1 junction with luxury transfer coaches so ideal. Checkin was very quick and efficient, everything explained and the VCR was very accurate but I took pics and a vid just in case. Car was a quality item probably c1 yr old and with minor marks but nothing important and was completely full of fuel as promised. On return the car was checked (I did another vid to make sure no naughties) and agreed no damage and we were taken straight back to the airport. Whilst waiting for the flight we had the full confirmation of no damage and the deposit hold was released all within an hour or so. One of the best hire experiences (of many) and I'm very happy to recommend Auto Europe and Gobycar based on this experience. "

Short transfer to the (just offsite) office which is bright, modern and air conditioned. Not sure why counter staff at most Spanish car hire places seem to take so long to process and hand keys but this did take a while. Unfortunately, many renters don't appreciate that 'full' insurance is often offered by agencies and if they take it they will still need to leave an excess deposit. But friendly and helpful. Almost new car in almost unmarked condition. Adjacent to a petrol station which is really handy for the return which was quick and no unexpected marks found. " The pick is NOT as described Palma Airport, Majorca. It is actually a transfer as it is Goby cars. You don't find that until the paper work arrives 4 days before - the instructions are unclear and only more detail given when you phone the number and get a recorded message that says you should follow the instructions you haven't got but does repeat them. The driver when they did pick up , drove extremely fast as there were several people waiting. Only 1 person was working and it took 30 minutes to get the car after a 10 minute transfer. The car was in the wrong place and 15 faults listed ( scrapes, dents, chips, a chip in window) on the sheet but we counted over 20 and video'd as we were not convinced by the record. They gave you a key and then abandoned you. Car had over 50000 miles on, mats didn't fit and slipped . Realised the return time was 30 minutes before they closed for drop off. We were checking return transfer . Phoned at 8pm the night before when realised ( an hour before closing ) and it said they were closed. Left number to check would be shuttle and asked to confirm . No one phoned. Ended up arriving 45 minutes early just Incase they closed early again. Only 1 person working again but then another guy took 3 of us over , quick inspection and said sign ( form in Spanish) I had to ask that he agreed there were no extra marks as it was so perfunctory "

I was forced to take out their own CDW and leave an 800 euro deposit on my credit card. " I have hired many cars in Europe and around the world. This was the worst experience I have ever encountered. I was not told at the time of booking that Gobycar was off site. I waited half an hour to be picked up. I was then told to leave an €800 deposit or be forced to purchase insurance through the company at an additional €56 plus another €150 deposit. I told the operator that I have private insurance for hire cars but I was ignored. If I had known this information I would have booked a car from Auto Riesen at TFS. They are reliable, transparent and honest. At drop off I had to wait another half an hour for someone to accept the keys. Causing stress that we might miss our flight! NEVER AGAIN! "

" Booked with auto Europe, I received no confirmation email. I chose auto Europe because it was meant to be in an airport terminal. It was not. I found out that we were actually using a company called gobycar. We waited 10 mins for a representative to turn up. It was then a 10 minute drive and then a 20 minute wait to be spoken to about our car. The car itself was meant to be a 1.8 litre, but it definitely was not and was severely under powered. Also the cars on board computer had no navigation available, as this was a new car I'm almost certain it would not be an optional extra. For a car hire that mainly hires out cars to tourists who obviously don't know the roads this was very surprising. Otherwise the car was in great condition. None of the staff inspected the car before our first departure, they said that if we found any damage to film it and let them know. It was dark and raining, so the films we made didn't show any of the damage we found. "

Eventually we called the office (no instructions to do this) and then they sent a shuttle bus to pick us up. It was a long wait after a long journey. When we arrived at the office we were asked to provide a credit card. I had made the booking on my debit card, I have no credit card. They refused to let me have the car without a credit card. My boyfriend has one, but they refused to accept this, saying it had to be in my name. I tried to call Auto Europe but your office was closed. We needed a car, in the end I was forced to pay for their zero excess complete insurance, which was more than the original cost of the car hire through you. Deeply disappointing, eye wateringly expensive, frustrating that I was allowed to pay you via debit card but not the car hire place. "

Your failure to communicate meant we incurred additional costs our side. " I had started my internet search for a hire car on the travelsupermarket. com website. I had chosen as one of the filters 'show only car hire companies in the airport terminal'. I made my selection and followed the link to Auto Europe and completed the booking process. When arriving in Fuerteventura I was surprised to find out that the Gobycar desk was off site. There was no clear indication on the paperwork I'd printed out to say that it was offsite or where to get the shuttle bus. Having now gone back into the Auto Europe website I see that it does show that the Gobycar desk is offsite so the error is with the travelsupermarket website. However it would have been helpful if this arrival procedure information was contained in the Auto Europe voucher I'd printed out. "
