Both the check in and check out procces were very smooth / efficient and completed within minutes. Contrary to bad experiences with recent car rentals in Greece, Goldcar did not have any issues with me not accepting any additional insurance and/or the credit card produced for the payment of the deposit. The rental come with re-assurance of road assistance albeit at an extra cost (only) if it was to be required. Finally, I was offered an upgrade from EDMR to CGMR that I accepted; unfortunately, the SUV I issued proved to be a mixed pleasing as it was more comfortable/spacious to drive but more difficult to find large enough parking spaces to park it. "

" We use you twice a year for Greece, and regardless which rental car agency is selected, the problem is always the same. High mileage vehicles in poor condition, usually with some mechanical defects (in June the A/C was malfunctioning - a big problem with 40 degree temperature. And now in September, the car still had some 40K on the odometer, and the wheels needed balancing. I don't see how this gets resolved, as in all years we've booked with you for Greece, the same issues continue. "
" Finding the shuttle van at Athens airport was chaotic, as there were a large number of other vans occupying nearly all of the spaces. It took quite a while to be picked up (also had to call them). The car itself needed a wheel balancing (it vibrated massively from 100-130 klm/hour). Also the screenwash liquid tank was completely empty. The overall impression not only with Goldcar - but all others in Athens - is that they do NOT maintain their vehicles well. "

On return accused of being 1.5 hours late, even though I wasn't. Was asked to provide rental agreement not booking. I had photo of it. After some discussion he had the rental agreement of a different customer. When returning the car the staff member used his hand to check for scrapes on the underside of the front. Without a ramp when I collected the car I have no idea how i could have checked this area. It was ok but illustrated to me how they seemed to operate. The car had lots of marks on it meaning checking the car when picking up took too long. All the money others have no doubt been charged clearly hadn't been used to fix the car up. I had to state multiple times I didn't want extra insurance. "

During the check in process I was told a blatant lie that the inclusive relax insurance already purchased via Auto Europe did not fully cover us in the event of an accident as we would not get a copy of a Police report so would not get a refund from Auto Europe ( to cover our excess,) She even went as far as telling me Auto Europe gave me incorrect information- I showed the documents and pointed out refund information. She then offered a free ( end of season offer) of an up graded car- full tank of petrol ,return empty, and I could have full insurance to cover everything for 320 euro !! Note: this is a free upgrade!!!! Obviously I declined and said I was satisfied with the existing vehicle and the contract with Auto Europe- She then started chatting in Greek to her colleagues and we knew it was along the lines of " Oh well I did try, but could not con them" the others then started laughing!. I had read previous reviews of this practice by Goldcar, but that was customers who dealt direct. By going via Auto Europe I would have thought it would not happen, obviously it is common practice and they try it every time they think someone is gullable or unsuspecting!. She also said my credit card deposit would be held for 1 month after returning the car - why ? Surely if the car is returned in the condition it was collected it should be returned immediately. "

This didn't arrive so our son, who had hired a car with a different company, took us. The pick up procedure took a very long time and the staff member didn't give us our contract. They then called us after about twenty minutes into our journey to say we had to go back to collect it. We had a long way to go, it was dark and by this time the whole procedure had already taken three hours from landing. The car itself was much smaller than the one I booked and was very damaged. It drove really poorly so we didn't feel safe in it at all. We spent until Wednesday worrying about our lack of contract and had no response from Goldcar about it. It was only when Auto Europe got involved that we managed to have it e mailed to us. We are very appreciative of Auto Europe help and would book through them again but definitely not Goldcar. "

I had to purchase a replacement tyre because the condition of the original was not safe to repair. On returning the car Goldcar agent was unhelpful, rude and abusive and refused to refund the cost of the tyre. He said that his name was Costo but that may not have been his real name. No accidents or damage during hire period. When car returned it was daylight and Goldcar rep carefully inspected car and 'found' slight scratches on lower edge of front bumper. These appeared to be old and had previously been covered with a white substance. Company insisted that I must have caused this so called damage and deducted 250 Euros from my credit card rejecting any argument. Fortunately I has cover from Insurance4carhire and am able to claim this back. However to avoid hassle suggest all NEVER USE GOLDCAR "

" There is no way I would ever use Goldcar again. When we arrived we were shown a brand new Fiat panda. We were told on numerous occassions that it was brand new and there was no damage. We took our torches and checked the car over. As we did the woman laughed and repeatedly told us it was brand new and had no damage. We did not check underneath the car only bodywork. The car itself was fine, had 1800km on the clock so was new but had been driven. We drove from rhodes to Lindos on one road of excellent quality, parked in a secure hotel car park and returned via the same road. On returning the vehicle, the man checking the car went straight underneath and pointed to some damage. He clearly knew where to look as be went straight there. There was a big dint to the undercarrage below the passenger side door. We explained that we had not done this as it would have been very obvious. We were again repeatedly told the car was new by the same lady and made to pay €200. When we continued to dispute this we were told that the full hold amount of €1200 would be taken as they again laughed. This was clearly a scam as they knew exactly whete the damage was and were very insistant that the car was new. We will now always check underneath the car and will never use Goldcar again. " Unscrupulous and NOT customer orientated. Upon arrival I was bombarded with info about needing to take out their additional insurance. I did not require it, as I had my own, then shuffling of papers. I believe this was to change car as I had my own insurance. We were shown the car, no body map with existing damage was provided, we had to point out all existing damage. It was a significant amount. No help was provided just the assistant writing down what we stated. After finishing map, which took sometime we had to sign for the car being warned that anything noted on return would be charged. When driving out of the compound onto road leading to dual carriageway we noticed a chip in the windscreen, we turned around when possible and reported the damage, it was recorded rather unenthusiastically on the car damage map. We drove directly to our hotel (4.30 p.m.) on arrival and unpacking the boot noticed a dent in the roof. Now either we missed this on inspection or (as I suspect, but with no proof) it was done whilst we were finalising our paperwork. We took photo, but because of all the hassle we had had previously decided to wait until we returned the car to show this damage. Oh how wrong we were! Car was OK to drive but really struggled on inclines, very pleased we did not break down during the two weeks. Upon return, we were told, after an inspection which clearly aimed towards known damage, that we had to pay for the damage - the dent and another small scratch. I disputed this to no avail. Yes I had signed for the car, no I had not damaged it, it was damage I had not recorded. Thus my insurance is paying for an observational mistake not a driving error. This can be summed up by the assistants statement that - Why are you worried, you have insurance! Dreadful attitude. I was then told very clearly by the manager that no problem would have occurred had I taken out their insurance. To compound my sense of unscrupulous behaviour I was refused access to the previous car damage maps - so that I could check condition of car according to their records, very suspicious. I am claiming from my insurance having explained all this to them, they have agreed to consider the case, not to pay just consider! "

" I was asked to inspect a white hire car, under a flood light , at 10.30pm local time. During the inspection I found 3 minor defects in the condition of the vehicle. However.....when returning the vehicle, the young Goldcar employee almost instantaneously spotted a further 2 defects. I believe that this probably isn't the first time that Goldcar have carried out this confidence trick, and I would like you to establish whether this hire vehicle has been subject to similar claims in the past. On this hire, I chose to purchase excess insurance in the UK because of the recent change in the law and the increase in the excess amount which on this occasion amounted to more than £1,500.00, just about the same price as my weeks holiday in Zante. I went through completing the process of the hire in your office and then navigated the upgrade insurance conversation with your representative. To my utter amazement and disgust I was told that the vehicle was not insured! The young woman stated that the arrangement made with the hire of the car was a "product", it was not "insurance", and that in order to be insured I would have to buy the cover! This is grossly misleading and unacceptable. It is lying to customers and I will NEVER, hire from you again. Although I was aware that I was well covered, in the back of my mind was the unprofessional misleading approach of your member of staff who was witnessed saying this by all other members of the team in your office without correction and so I lost trust in the integrity of your company and worried the whole week about returning the car and what other tactics GOLDCAR may come up with on its return in order to get money out of me. This deterred me from exploring the island as I might if I felt more comfortable and confident with my hire. On this hire, I chose to purchase excess insurance in the UK because of the recent change in the law and the increase in the excess amount which on this occasion amounted to more than £1,500.00, just about the same price as my weeks holiday in Zante. I went through completing the process of the hire in your office and then navigated the upgrade insurance conversation with your representative. To my utter amazement and disgust I was told that the vehicle was not insured! The young woman stated that the arrangement made with the hire of the car was a "product", it was not "insurance", and that in order to be insured I would have to buy the cover! This is grossly misleading and unacceptable. It is lying to customers and I will NEVER, hire from you again. Although I was aware that I was well covered, in the back of my mind was the unprofessional misleading approach of your member of staff who was witnessed saying this by all other members of the team in your office without correction and so I lost trust in the integrity of your company and worried the whole week about returning the car and what other tactics GOLDCAR may come up with on its return in order to get money out of me. This deterred me from exploring the island as I might if I felt more comfortable and confident with my hire. I will be publishing this information on trip advisor to warn others of the scare tactics of your staff. "

" Scary insurance! Plus the Fiat 500 is totally unsuitable for the roads (hills) in Zakinthos. I hardly got out of 1st and 2nd gear. It needed a gear in the middle of these two. "
" The staff at the collection centre were very pushy in trying to upsell my insurance. They told me my inclusive insurance was of little or no value in terms of protecting me from financial risk. Why is their insurance so complicated, with every item on the car listed separately... wing mirrors and so on. It's ridiculous! I wanted peace of mind and they tried to add another €155 to the cost, in which case I would of been better iff going to AVIS or Hertz. "

" Very slow to complete paperwork at pick up and could not find the car. Alot of staff not actually doing anything: at one point 6 men watching 1 man tap information into a computer. Took about 45mins to complete process. On returning no information what to do with car and no where to park, eventually left blocking other cars. No paperwork given on acceptance of car on return. "

" I was mis-sold extra insurance on the desk which I had not agreed to purchase - i.e. I was not given a choice as to whether or not I wanted it and assumed it was a temporary amount which would be refunded on return of the vehicle. I thought the counter staff were quite sneaky in this regard. "

" Plane was a bit late and mini bus had stopped running at 11pm, Note on mini bus window in Greek with number to ring. No reply and only message in Greek. Had to hire from another company to get to our destination at considerably greater cost. Now have to try and get some re imbursement but will have still been a very expensive exercise. "

If it is viable to place a sign to exactly show where the pick up point is located this may assist other clients. Though can appreciate the number of other services running from this area may make this difficult without agreement from the owners of the airport. "
