" On returning the car, a lady from Goldcar inspected it, she said there is a mark on the wing mirror, and we will be charged £30. She asked if we had photos of the car when we picked it up, I said yes and went through them. Unfortunately they did not cover the drivers wing mirror. I asked if she had a cloth to wipe the wing mirror, she said no, so I started to rub the mark away with my fingers, it did not go all the way but you could clearly see it just needed a good wipe. We were in a rush to get our flight so I had to sign and agree that there was a mark, in the meantime my wife had completely wiped the mark away. I showed the lady from Goldcar and she agreed the mark has gone, she tried to reverse the charge and made a call, but she said I needed to fill a form in and call a number on the rental agreement to claim the charge back. I called and was told to send an email to and explain, Have done and had no response, sent a second email 7 days later, and still no response 7 days after that one. I would not use them again. "

I questioned this with the Goldcar attendant in the carpark & was asked how much I had paid, which seemed irrelevant, and assured it would all be okay. Unhappy with this I returned to the counter where I was told that all of their cars were damaged! I took photographs before driving away but felt as though I had hired a stockcar. The car was reasonable to drive although there was a shudder in the steering if the speed exceeded 100kph & the 'service' symbol appeared on a few occasions. The signage and Goldcar information for the return of the car was totally lacking meaning I had to ask a member of airport staff for directions, thankfully I speak Spanish otherwise I would probably still be driving around the airport! Overall I was not happy with the rental, no other hire company seemed to hire out stockcars and I fail to see why a vehicle in such poor condition should be given out to a customer. I shall not be using Goldcar in the future. "

" The main issue and problems was when I needed to return the car and get it checked and confirmed as having no damage or at least signed off as having none. Myself and my partner parked in the correct area and then rang Goldcar to get someone to check the car and confirm it was undamaged. The person on the phone said we would need to speak to the people on the desk. When we asked to be transferred to them, we were told that wasn't possible and we needed to go the desk in person. I then walked to the desk inside the airport which is several hundred meters away inside the airport. When I reached the desk there were three staff and a very long queue of people. I had to interrupt the queue and ask one of the staff to process the return and told them where it was parked. I was told I would need to wait for someone to go out. I asked how long and was told 10 minutes. I telephoned my partner and told her to watch for anyone approaching the car. I waited 10 minutes and no-one had left the desk and no-one had approached my partner at the car in the car park. I asked one of the other members of staff and explained this. She rang someone on the phone and then hung up. She then continued with the person in the queue. The person in the queue was surprised and told the member of staff to tell me what the person on the phone had said - even they could see that this wrong without having any connection to it. The member of goldcar staff told me someone would be going out there. I asked how long that would take and she snapped at me that someone is going out there. I again for clarification on how long that would take and I was told 10 minutes. I returned to the car park and my partner said no-one had approached the car. We waited another 30 minutes. That was now almost an hour in total since our original request to have someone check the car. We were then in danger of missing our flight if this continued. We sent an email to AutoEurope to advise them of our problem in getting someone to sign off the car and then went into the airport and back to the desk to return the keys. I asked the staff why no-one had arrived. They telephoned someone and told us that the person on the phone had told them they did go to the car. I confirmed they went to the right location which was number 28 parking space and they said they had gone there. Since my partner was there the entire time and no-one had been there there was clearly an inconsistency in what we were being told. I believe no-one went to do the task of checking the car due to staff either being unavailable, too busy or unwilling to walk out to the car. My partner was upset by our time being wasted and considered the explanations to be inconsistent. "

We got the impression they were only after an additional €189 for there insurance and became completely unhelpful. I paid the extras just so it didn't spoil our holiday We have on a previous occasion used Gold Car and found a different problem when we only wanted basic insurance. I fully accept that if I'd taken my Visa card with me we would have argued about the deposit they were taking but paying an extra €189 was just Monet grabbing As to Gold Car never again will I use them or recommend them "

My boyfriend has one, but they refused to accept this, saying it had to be in my name. I tried to call Auto Europe but your office was closed. " Booked a Fiesta or similar, got a Clio. This wasnt ready for collection so issued another car, this took another hour for the paperwork. We later found that this car had bald tyres when the nearside front blew. When ringing to inform i was told to put on the spare and drive it back to the airport ruining a day of our holiday, where the staff there would not accept it until i had refueled the tank (This cost 7 euros!) We were issued a Skoda which was acceptable. "

It then took 45 minutes to get the car with all damage marked up correctly - the damage report initially given did not match the damage on the car. The car had to be examined in an underground car park which made it difficult to see and photograph damage. They did not make clear what damage was considered significant. " Hi, overall the experience was positive, my only complaint was in the Auto Europe booking system if you set the collection or pick up time for 23:30 it does not warn you that you'll incur the "out of hours " fee! I contacted both AE & Hertz the night of our inbound flight to expect to be delayed. All though we actually arrived ahead of schedule I was charged the Out of hours fee. The agent explained 23:00 was the cut off but the web site allows booking collection up to 23:30? Small annoyance but cost €46 extra on the booking. Lesson learnt for next time... "

" Firstly, entirely my own fault for booking the wrong pick-up time, there wasn't a car ready for us when we arrived, but the counter staff managed to find us one in under 30 minutes, so pretty good really. But they did manage manage to sort another out quickly (10 mins), directed us to bay 26, no car! Back to the car park office, where a man scuttled off to "fetch our car" (anther 10 mins), comes roaring back in a small Audi which we piled our bags and ourselves into, and then driven at high speed to another car park entirely to find our car in, you guessed it, BAY 26! Got there in the end! "

" Car was poor from a premium car hire company, I had also taken out additional excess protection but the Hertz desk advised that as my wife was using her credit card as the holding protection as I only had a debit card they said the company that auto Europe use would not pay out if I needed to claim as my wife was not on the hire agreement, they advised that I needed to pay for her to be an additional driver to ensure cover, I did thus even though my wife had no intention of driving. I felt this was unfair and additional costs for nothing "

Although initially dismissive, once I had expressed the urgency of the situation, the person I spoke to on the phone was helpful in resolving the situation. I will concede that what I took for apathy was possibly a reflection of his understanding that my situation was easily resolved. Likewise I don't know if the car I was offered was the only option or the first. As I say, a mixed response. Some bits went well, other bits less so. "
" I am completing this on the assumption that this relates to Avis - if I have that wrong, please disregard. Keeping this as brief as possible, my flight was delayed and arrived after the desk for my original booking had closed so I was advised to cancel this booking and get something else. That all went relatively smoothly, but when I went to collect the car I found the Avis staff to be initially very unhelpful. There were three staff in attendance and two separate queues, one inside baggage reclaim and one outside. Rather than split the three staff between the two windows they focused solely on one of them and told the other queue that we'd just have to be patient. When I was finally seen to I was left with a feeling that I had been conned with the insurance package. Yes, I realise that it was optional, and caveat emptor, etc. but it was extortionate compared to what I had originally booked, coming to more than the cost of the rental. Once I had a chance to think about it I felt as I had been taken advantage of, my stressed and tired state exploited by the counter staff. On the strength of this I am likely to avoid dealing with Avis in future. "

However, although Europcar personnel present at pick up location, nobody helped with pick up (despite being approached) and pick up location a quite poorly lit underground car park. Drove car minimally and without any incidents. When dropped off car was told there was damage on car (lady used a torch to establish this)- scratches lower driver side front bumper and lower aspect of back bumper-was told had to pay for these despite not having caused them as I had not highlighted these when picked up car. " When arriving at gran canaria airport I was told that we did not have insurance and that we had to pay a £800 deposit (as you can imagine that was not a good start to my birthday holiday). I showed them my booking confirmation that stated that I did in fact have insurance yet they still told me I didn't and I still had to pay the £800 deposit. After arguing this for the best part of half an hour we gave in and paid the £800, this was not all though... As I put my credit card into the machine I noticed that they had put £900 on the machine, I told them that they had made a mistake by putting £900 instead of £800. They then told me that the extra £100 was a fuel charge so that if the tank didn't come back full then we would be charged for it (we had hired a standard 1.2 fiat 500 for 3 days, which would have cost nowhere near £100 to fill to full). After paying the £900 deposits we then went to the car with our damage report, the damage report that we was given had 4 'x' on where the damage 'was'. We didn't get to the car until 8pm so it was really dark out with no lighting on the car park, our car was a dark blue colour so it was almost impossible to see the damage on it. After walking around with our phone torches we found over 20+ extra bangs, dents and scrapes. We then did the half a mile walk back to the rental desk to ask if someone could come and do a new damage report. At this point the first night of our holiday was a right off as we still needed to get to our hotel. After waiting an extra 30 minutes someone came to do a new damage report and we started finding more and more damage on the car. After sorting the damage we was on our way to enjoy our holiday. When returning the car no one come to check and we was told to put the keys in a box on the car park. Once we had returned home I started having issues with getting my money for the deposit back. They sent me an email about getting a final settlement for the car, this email was worded in such a way that l was to pay them for damages, but when I called them they said that all of the money would be refunded to me in 3-5 days. After 3 days I had half of my money refunded, this made me question if I was getting a full refund. I am still arguing with them and trying to get all of my money back on my credit card before charges me extra for using it. They are now saying that we have damaged the car and owe them €430! The car was left on the secure hotel car park for the whole holiday. We asked for a full damage report and the man that was doing it got sick of doing pictures so said that most of the damage that was already on the car didn't count because they were less than 5cm when they wasn't. "

" Unfortunately, we did not receive the type of car we booked. We were told that the Hyundai Tucson we had ordered was not available because it had been involved in an incident. Instead we were offered a C3 Crossover Citroen. This car was brand new and very nice but it was not big enough to hold all the luggage we brought (3 cases, hand luggage and baby equipment) without having to squeeze it onto our laps and leave the parcel shelf with the Avis representative. That is the reason we hired a big car. The car was also a little underpowered with a full load. The journey to and from our apartment was therefore very uncomfortable. I feel we should be compensated for this and would be grateful if you would look into this please. Finally, I should point out that the pick up is a long walk from the arrivals area. "

" The booking was made via Travelsupermarket, Autoeurope and Interent at Gran Canaria Airport. Through the whole booking process I wasn't told that I needed the credit card to be in the drivers name. So on arrival we were told we couldn't have the car as we only had my partners credit card. Contacted Autoeurope to ask for refund, told we couldn't as it had passed collection time and can only cancel 48 hours before. Seeing as we had booked it that morning this was impossible to do. After getting home and checking your website process, at no point does it tell you, that you need a credit card in the name of the driver. On the voucher you present yes it does, but then when you've booked, printed, packed and flown its too late to see that in the small print. The woman I spoke to said it WAS made clear on the booking website. NO IT ISNT. And refused to give us a refund. So would I recommend you, NO. NEVER. "

" Car was 88 days overdue a service which I raised with counter staff but they were happy for the car to be released. Car also had multiple instances of marks etc on the bodywork, but was otherwise fine. Biggest issue was at drop-off. Counter staff "found" an apparently new mark on the door mirror which they tried to charge me 130 euros for. Given the limited time we used the car I am completely clear that this was not caused by us but appeared to be an attempt to increase their revenue. Also, when I pointed out that our car rental had CDW insurance with zero excess their response was that we had to pay the 130 euros and reclaim the money paid from auto-Europe insurance. Only after I pointed out that the zero excess was part of the rental agreement with dollar did they check their records of our rental agreement and eventually agree with me. I now don't trust dollar and will be checking my credit card statement to ensure they haven't charged me in any case ! "

" After receiving the car from Interrent, I took this up with Auto Europe and I got no satisfaction and my last email was not even replied to, I was told by the Interrent desk to deal directly with Auto Europe which I did the next day, which was almost a month ago. " We arrived at around 8.30 pm, spent nearly three hours waiting with only a queue of 4 people, there were two staff who did not seem to know what they were doing, then one left which we could not understand why. Eventually we got give the keys to a car which was Fiat 500, with no boot space at all, we had one standard case so we had to go back and we were told we would have to upgrade even though when we booked on your website we booked a car with room for one suitcase and four people, it says or similar but the boot space was different, we ended up paying almost 100 pounds extra for a renault clio just to carry a suitcase, we hired a car just to drive to the hotel and back to the airport, we knew we were not going to do alot of driving as our hotel all inclusive. We were disgusted to be held to ransom at nearly midnight with two children and no choice, literally had a gun to our head, we are shocked at this type of manipulation between rental companies of the description and classification of their cars, and how they treat their customers, If we had paid 140 pounds when we originally booked we could have had an intermediate or full size car as we booked well in advance. I will be writing a review to let everyone know, to watch out for the latest trick and not be had like me, "

" I have used Autoeurope before and the only issue I have is that with some suppliers and in some countries like spain although you purchase zero excess there is always something extra to pay locally in the small prints. Either glass/tire extra coverage or like in this case the 24 breakdown assistance as Auto Europe only offer the basic. If zero excess there should be no other extras to pay with any of the suppliers offering this option other than deposit for petrol. It should not be only zero % as you do not have to pay a full deposit. "
" Pick up was slow. Staff at interrent advised that although rental was zero excess I had to pay extra for 24 road assistance. This is the third time it happens in spain/canaries with various companies as they always find something to charge extra locally. Pick up was process was slow and desk is the other side of the airport by domestic so long walk. Drop off signs direct you for Interrent inside airport parking but in reality it is outside in another area. Very messy. "

I think it should be made clear what are compulsary extras for which car hire locations. I was under the impression that the tank of petrol would be optional and I was not aware I would need a credit card in order to not pay extra for insurance and I made sure I read through the terms and conditions of the contract.
