" Apparently the car I rented didn't come with snow chains, so I was told it was 25 euro to upgrade. I was asked to sign in agreement, but not shown the full agreement as the screen was malfunctioning. It transpires that the whole car was upgraded and I was duly charged an extra 259 euro for the privilege, when I only believed I was upgrading the tyres. Wholly unacceptable and budget are refusing to communicate saying that the form was signed, I accepted it. I am not a French speaker just for reference, I rent cars in France every year and have never experienced this. Never again I'm afraid. "

" The whole experience left us feeling that we were being held to ransom somehow, and that we were expected to part with extra money now that we were standing at a foreign airport looking forward to getting to our holiday destination. It is clear, communication between the broker and the renter is inadequate. The effect of this is a feeling of unease and a complete lack of transparency; this is not a situation I would like to be exposed to again when I have my family standing outside waiting, and certainly not the conditions that I would wish to spend what ended up being a 12-hour journey. Very disappointed. Given that I am due to return over Christmas, I would certainly seek to obtain a more comprehensive and transparent service, without being told that everything about my booking is incorrect and being appealed to for extra funds. "
" Upon attendance at the rental desk we were informed that the car we had rented did not benefit from winter tyres, and I was sure that this was a particular selling point at the time of booking. Additionally, I believed that I had booked the largest vehicle I could. The representative advised that I would've had to have booked a larger class of vehicle to obtain the winter tyres, which I could now do for circa 200 Euros as an 'upgrade' ; this vehicle was no larger than the one initially rented and so the offer was declined. Only upon rejection did the representative then state that I could have snow chains at an additional cost - Circa 100 euros. On this occasion I managed to find the winterization statement in the booking confirmation stating an additional cost of 12 euro per day up to a maximum of 60 euros. The representative stated that this was incorrect and that I should seek to obtain a refund of the difference from Autoeurope as "they always get this wrong" he later added that this charge could also be refunded once the car car is returned having not used the chains; upon return of the unused chains I was advised that this should not have been stated and that they should charge me for the chains even though I hadn't used them even though they remained sealed in their transport case. Through discussion, the representative agreed to do the refund on this occasion as a goodwill gesture; the evidence of the goodwill is yet to be confirmed by my credit card statement. As a separate item, the booking stated an additional Ski rack; no such ski rack was available and the ski had to remain inside the vehicle - to the discomfort of the already full to capacity vehicle. "

" Worst rental experience I've ever had. Digital check-in a waste of time as still had to queue (no key collection as per their email). Staff were rude, car provided was dirty, dented and smaller than class of booked vehicle. Took over an hour to collect the car as even when an alternative was provided, it didn't have snow chains. On return from the Alps, stopped to fit snow chains and they were the wrong size meaning I had to drive in treacherous conditions and nearly missed my flight. Staff on return were equally rude. " I was not able to book a hire car beyond 5pm, I telephoned and was told I could have out of hours, then you contacted me and told me this was not possible. I therefore had no option but to pay for a transfer to Grenoble, pay for a hotel and pick up a hire car in the morning. When I arrived at Grenoble airport the hire place was open til gone 6 pm and many people were picking up cars. I telephoned you to see if you would pay for the extra they were charging to upgrade and you refused. Basically between you and Avis failure to communicate correct opening times I spent an extra €130 and lost a mornings skiing. "

The document I have received by email, subsequently, appears to claim that 3.63 euros is due on figures that bear little resemblance to my hire with you and it would seem that a dispute is looming. " I wouldn't recommend any particular car rental firm. They all seem to be the same, which is to say, trouble free for the most part. It's a pretty commoditised business with not much to choose between the admin of the rental companies and the cars they supply. That's why I use you, to find me the best deal on offer at the time. Answer me this please: why do all car rental desks take an incredible ammount of time faffing around at their computers when you check in? Why can't I leave all my relevant data with you e.g driver's license, you send it straight to the rental firm and they have the documentation ready for me when I arrive? Alternatively, you supply them with the bulk of the data in advance, they send me an online form or link where I complete the rest, and again, I just pick up the car and go when I get there. This waiting around is particularly inefficient and annoying in the summer months. "

" I was really pleased with the actual booking and car experience with Avis and booking through Auto Europe. However, prior to booking this vehicle I made another booking through Auto Europe which I cancelled. The money was taken out of my account straight away and I have yet to receive a refund despite this being over 3 weeks ago. I was told i would receive the refund after 7 working days which hasn't been the case. I am currently seeking advice from solicitors about how best to begin a formal challenge to get the money from the cancelled booking back. Auto Europe shouldn't offer flexible cancellation policies if they cant reimburse the money quickly, people rely on this money for holidays. "

It fits no more luggage or people in than a normal car!! The first time I thought it was a mistake, but as it happened again, I presume this is just what is considered an estate - despite the fact the photo on the car hire website clearly shows an Estate car - ie a normal car with a huge boot.
