" A complete night mare with Hertz in Cancun. I paid for full insurance with auto Europe but hertz said it didn't cover the loss of service and they scared us into buying their insurance. I already had excess insurance but they bullied us into having it. We were about to cancel the reservation there and then as they wanted $45 per day for the insurance. A manager got involved and dropped it to $20 approx. He also told us that Uber was not avail in Cancun which it was. Another pressure into hiring the car. The insurance plus tax cost twice the amount I had already paid with you. "

Hertz are trying to convince you to buy liability insurance and also pay again for full cdw. When I thought I had that already and that is what was stated on my contract provided by autoeurope. "

" The staff did not explain how the charges for gasoline worked, and I ended up paying more than expected. They have a large sign saying the cost of filling up the gasoline in hertz instead of at a gas station, but no one explained that they would be charging an extra 13 pesos per liter as a "service charge". When I said that I would just go tank it up at a gas station, this was not posible since I had already "begun the drop-off procedures". While I was there another customer came in who also ended paying much more than expected for gasoline. It was a different situation for him, but just shows that the staff at hertz does no effort to explain how their system works. It actually felt like this was completely intentional, so that they could place these additional hidden charges on their customers. I was extremely dissatisfied with the hertz staff, even the manager who did no effort to accommodate the fact that his team is clearly not informing the clients properly. "

" We have booked a car in Mexico-Cancun airport. Arrived with tired, small child who was crying and we just wanted to pick up the car and go to the hotel. Lady on the counter printed out contract and asked me to sign. I have told her clearly: I don't need any additional insurance. I'm happy with everything I have paid upfront. On the contract was a amount on the side and I have asked her: what's that for? She said: That's the charge you paid already, once you made reservation online. So I signed the contract. When we came to return the car, I have been asked to pay £118 for additional insurance. We have spoken with rude manager who was saying he's not gonna do anything with that. "

When I dropped the car off I was about to be charged the higher figure ( by almost $2000 pesos) and had to query it. I was told the figure I had marked as due for payment had nothing to do with paying by credit card ( all in Spannish so I did not understand the charges). After discussing with the manager a new contract was worked out - totally new figures - for about the amount I originally expected. But I should not have had to be alert to this trick. Also we had to wait for over 1 hour to collect the car. At this stage my wife was missold a Dreams Hotel promotion by Hertz staff promising a free breakfast and 2000 peso discount off the car hire. " On arrival there was a queue of three but each one took at least 25 minutes. Then they had no small cars and offered us a "caravana" which we refused. They then gave us a very large American car which was very low and got stuck on every speed bump. There are many speed bumps. Eventually they changed the car in the evening but the first day of our 2 days rental was a complete wasre of time. The young man on the desk was absolutely charming but the lack of cars was a real issue. They did not seem to understand that we really did want a smaller car for ease of driving, parking etc. "
