" Unfortunately late on the 2nd day of our holiday the car, a Peugeot 208 developed a problem. The in car touch screen display stopped working which meant that we had no information, reversing screen, navigation link, etc. I phoned the given number which didn't work. We were still able to drive the car but there appeared to be a problem with the battery. We therefore returned the vehicle asap on Monday morning and, after the car was inspected, we were given a replacement car which is what we expected. We had filled the car up with fuel even though some of that was the cost of returning the car and we lost most of a day of our holiday to bring it back and sort out the problem. I realise it wasn't Hertz fault that the car had a problem but we received no apology and seemed to be an unwelcome additional stress for the team there that day. I do feel that in the circumstances - 1. loss of most of a days holiday and 2. cost of fuel incurred. We feel that some sort of compensation is due under these circumstances. We assume that the local office in Malaga have notified Hertz of the problem but as yet we have heard nothing from them. I would be grateful if Auto Europe could look into this and let us know what is usual in these circumstances? "

One for myself and one for my son UK5859985, the default pick up time was set at 10am on his hire in line with mine but he hadn't booked his flight at this stage, later as requested he entered his flight details FR 6565 and arrival times 15.45 but this was not pulled through to Gold Car whay ask if not passing it on?? They cancelled his booking as he was 20mins after cut off which he could never have made given hi flight arrival time whats the point on insisting on this information if not fed through to the car hire company?? He called Auto Europe at the desk but no help I have also contacted Auto Europe no help he had to hire another car at a cost of £340 Euro and we have been offered no refund on the cancelled car £153.70 When I spoke to a agent on the phone no interest in helping so fine you have just lost a decade long customer great customer service guys :) "

" Hertz (Barcelona Airport) on return inspected the car and said it would need a clean inside. Indeed, dust and grit had come off our shoes into the footwells. They wouldn't tell me how much it would cost and would have to ask at the desk, which is on a different level of the building. I accepted this in good faith, as I wasn't given the opportunity to take the car and clean it myself (I had returned it early), but at the desk they said I'd have to wait for the invoice email. This arrived in 5 minutes with a charge of nearly €300! Whilst I was debating the ridiculous cost of the cleaning, 15 minutes later, another email arrived charging me for an object embedded in a tyre. I had driven nearly 200km directly to the rental return, so am suspicious as to how that could have happened without the car management system informing me of a loss of pressure. I am hopeful that I can reclaim the "puncture" cost on insurance, but not sure how to reclaim the €300 cleaning charge. I will probably have to take this up with Hertz, or dispute it via my credit card company. "

I would not expect the battery to fail when parked for just 4 days. "

" Experience at the pickup desk was very poor indeed. I have never encountered such a laborious process in more than two decades of hiring rental cars. After waiting at least 20 mins in the queue (of about three other customers). The difficulty all seemed to hinge on us not having accepted the "optional" insurance cover, which meant (according to the desk man) that we had to wait "up to 15 minutes" to receive a confirmation email about the rental; despite having brought all our printed out documentation with us. We waited patiently (if slightly bemused) for more than 15 mins for the email to arrive, then asked the man where it had got to. It turns out he hadn't even sent the email in the meantime. He and gave the excuse that he had been very busy so had not had time to send it. Of course, as soon as he sent the email, it arrived and we were able to head off to pick up the car. What a ridiculous performance. I felt that I was being punished for not paying their insurance premium. A very bad way to start the holiday. Shame on you Hertz. "

" Only issue was the out of hours drop off at Malaga airport, which was a nightmare!! Searched for a way to drop the keys for 45 minutes, including trying to visit the hire kiosk to drop the keys there but that area of the airport was closed off. I eventually had to leave the keys in the car (which due to keyless entry the car advertises that it's ready to drive off) and also tried letting them know using the number I had for them - was not only unanswered, with no way to leave a message, but also a premium number!! Turns out the process would have been simple but even though they knew I was dropping off at 4am, they didn't inform me of this.. so was a super stressful plane ride worrying if the car had been stolen. " We were very pleased with the car in every respect except for a major safety issue which became apparent when we experienced a flat front tyre. When we took the car to a garage to have the tyre replaced the mechanic pointed out that the tyre was bald and not within the legal requirement. He was shocked when we told him that the car was a rental car and from Hertz. He then inspected the other front tyre and showed us that this was also bald and also not within the legal requirement. We emailed Hertz to inform them of this and to ask for a refund for the punctured tyre and we are still waiting for a reply. We took photos of both tyres and sent them to Hertz; we also kept the punctured tyre as proof and showed both bald tyres to a Hertz representative when we returned the car to the airport. We think that as a minimum the cost of the replacement tyre should be refunded to us and frankly Hertz should refund us the whole rental cost as they leased us a car in an unsafe condition. "

" Documentation for our rental vehicle was incorrect. We noticed this when Hertz emailed us a condition report for the vehicle which was not the vehicle we were given. Our vehicle was a Peugeot 2008 and the documentation was for a Peugeot 5008. On return this 2was joined to the the staff at Malaga who said that they had corrected the error and closed out the contract with no further charges. Now back at home we received an invoice for fuel charges for the vehicle that was not ours. We have been shared for fuel for somebody else's rental. We filled our car to the brim prior to returning it. Needless to say we will be raising the issue with our credit card company as I suspect this is a deliberate ploy from Hertz and actually fraud. "

Country to my destination. The clerk on the counter said that it would be 'dangerouse' to do that and I would save money buying the hertz unit. I repeated I did not want it, I'm an experienced driver, and have driven all over Europe for many years and I wanted to go a different route. She stressed that I should buy it and the weather was not good so it wouldn't be safe!! I live on London England so know about bad weather. Eventually I bought it so I could get away and then it didn't I'm even work and hadn't be validated!!! Please no hard sell next time "

Arrived to collect only to be informed it was another £38 per day for insurance despite having already purchased insurance. Didn't have the cat I booked but provided me with free upgrade which was covered scary he's and dents not recorded on the hand over. I had to take over 20 photos of the scratches in poor car park lighting and sent to hertz. On check in they said there was no record of the scratches but accepted my photos and email response from hertz. Terrible that you have to go through all of this spoils the holiday worrying the whole time about the car and fines you might get. It would be better just to honestly provide the real hire cost with insurance from the start "

The only negative was that we were unable to complete the Hertz preregistration as although AE sent us an email to do so when we tried the Hertz portal said our booking did not support preregistration. I might add that before you rent out another LYNK & Co car you advise your customer that they need to watch a video to see how to operate the car !!!!!!! Rather than charge us for damage that we clearly did not cause we should receive compensation for losing the use of the car for one day. I hope after reading this e-mail and the attachments you will issue us with a full credit for the "so called" damage that we DID NOT do and was on the car when collected." " Having used Auto Europe happily and regularly for many years now I wanted to let you know that my experience with Hertz on this recent trip was by far and easily the worst car hire service that I have ever experienced in over 25 years of car rental. The manner, behaviour and ethics of Eduardo (he refused to give his surname) at the Hertz car rental return at Palma de Mallorca today was like nothing that my wife and I have ever seen. The man was hell bent on finding some "new" damage to the car in order that we might be charged for it. Rewind 2 weeks earlier when I had travelled with my young family to Palma on 14th August. It wasn't an easy journey. At Palma the Hertz desk is at the terminal and then you trek with your luggage in the searing heat to the car park. By this time you are really ready to get in the car get the AC on and head to your villa. I noticed straight away that this was a very old car with over 40,000 kms on the clock. It was very well used with multiple scratches and damage everywhere, all of which I then tried to document as well as I could. (I attach photos). It wasn't even properly clean. Certainly it was a very poor product to offer a client in the first place when they are paying £1,624, but I let this go as frankly my valuable holiday time is more important to me than complaining with a car rental company about some minor damage on a car, I only need to live with for two weeks. Fast forward to today and the return of the car and Eduardo seems VERY keen to find some damage to Hertz's substandard, beaten up car. First he finds a mark on the left wing mirror and starts to fill in his form before I can even protest or discuss. I show him a photo on my phone that I have taken on 14th August. He says that this is the other wing mirror. I dispute 100% that I have made any damage and then show him all the MANY scratches and damage all over the car that I have documented. Eventually, fortunately, I find a photo of the left wing mirror in question from 14th August with the damage on it. He seems furious that I have proved him wrong. So now he really gets to work. He is climbing up the side of the car to check the roof, literally scouring every inch of the car to try and find something that I might have missed. Eventually he finds something on the rear spoiler and he is immediately filling in the paperwork and stating this is new damage. I have missed this damage in my photos as frankly it is high up and I could have spent an hour photographing the whole car. I have a flight to catch and it is clear that I cannot reason with this man - he is miserable, impolite and totally disrespectful - a disgrace to the Hertz brand. I can guarantee 100% that this damage was not caused by us. The fact that it was not documented on their original damage report is well understood when an easy to spot damage on the left side mirror was stated as new damage until I proved to him it was there on 14th. It was if the man was on commission or a bonus to try and apportion damage and therefore repair bills to clients. I would like to ask if this is the case? Otherwise his behaviour literally makes no sense. I run a business and you can be sure I will NEVER allow my company or my family to use Hertz again unless I get an immediate apology and they confirm I won't be charged a cent for the damage that was pre-existing on this car. It is clear that they had done a terrible job of documenting damage when they had already missed the damage on the left side mirror which was in a very easy to spot place. If I had not photographed that then Eduardo would try to have me on the hook for that as well. Please take this up with Hertz. You must place a huge amount of business with them so will have leverage to sort this out. You will see from my many years of business with you that I have never had a problem before and have been a reliable and good customer to you and the rental companies with which you have placed my business. I have not been this angry or upset by someone's behaviour in such a long while. This man Eduardo treated us with such disdain and bad manners. He should NEVER be allowed to be in a customer facing job again. Please acknowledge my complaint is being handled by reply and keep me updated accordingly. When seeing car, was not happy that this was a much larger car ( SUV Peugeot 2008 Allure) than had requested & had a lot of damage to car. Went back to Hertz & requested a smaller car but still automatic. Given another set of keys to a VW Polo again damaged but not automatic as told. As i did not want to spend any more time at the Airport toing & froing the car park, i drove the VWPolo . Very disappointed "

" The car we were offered when we arrived was a Toyota Yaris which had smaller boot capacity than expected. It was an older car with over 53,00O Km "on the clock" and had a few scratches and scrapes. First gear was also very fierce and made taking away at junctions difficult. I would have expected a much bettero car for the money. We were offered an upgrade to a new Peugeot 2008 SUV but would have had to pay even more. We declined although we had not seen either car at this point. In summary poor value for the standard of car provided. "

" My flight got modified by the airline and by the time I was landing, the desk was going to be closed. So I contacted ae to inform that I was going to collect a day later but by all means I wanted to keep the booking. I was told that that was not possible and my booking had to be cancelled and re-booked at the new rate (twice more expensive). I was also told that I had to contact Hertz directly because ae couldn't do anything for me. When I managed to speak with Hertz UK I was told that as the booking was made with ae I had to speak with them, which makes total sense. All I needed was to inform that I was going to pick up the car a day later. I was also told that after 2hrs of the pick up time Hertz had the right to cancel my booking, which I understand if I wasn't calling to inform of the changes on my schedule. I was happy to pay for the car to stay 1 day parked and collect the following morning. I spoke with 3 people at ae customer service, the first person started really bad, but at some point the conversation improved and tried to help me with no luck. The second person was a female, her customer skills are appalling. She tried to use an analogy, saying that renting a car is like a flight, once departed you need to book a new one. I explained that renting a car is like booking a hotel room, if you arrive a day late (you inform the hotel and are happy to pay for the room to be empty) you have the right to keep yhe booking. She was not interested in any of that. The 3rd person did understand my point, he couldn't offer a real solution but he told me that he was putting a message on the booking announcing my late arrival. Did provide anything in writing, which I find not right. He also told me that there was a risk that I might arrive and no cars would be available. In the end I call the desk in Spain, I spoke with a very polite gentleman who listened to me and responded with: nor a problem at all, sir. Your car will be waiting for you, I will leave a message to my colleagues. AutoEurope customer service was a complete disaster, but I have learned my lesson: next time I will book direct with Hertz, I might pay more but will save on the stress and bad experience. "

" On arrival at Terminal 2 Barcelona, we found that the office at the Hertz car park was closed. We were told by a security guard that we would have to go to Terminal 1. The taxi to Terminal 1 cost 20 Euros! An hour later we finally picked up our hire car. The rep apologised and said that Terminal 2 Hertz park was closed on Sunday. We left the car back 10 days later at Terminal 2 - and yes it was closed, so key left in letter box. The rep stated that it was an AutoEurope fault and that your voucher should have directed us to Terminal 1. Wasnt the best start to a holiday "

I rated them a bit lower as during checking I asked for the car conditions before handed me over the keys, the car had lots of marks, I had to report these marks during check in. Told that there was only one person at the correct terminal hence the sign but the car was at the original terminal. Bus back again. Had to join another large queue to get the car. I had booked a Zafira or similar as there were originally four in the party with luggage and a wheelchair. Car was actually a Volkswagen TRoc - much smaller although one of our party had dropped out so it was workable. However, could have booked a TRoc much more cheaply. Handed the keys back and later found out that they were charging EUR135 for alleged damaged which from the photos looks negligible. Didn't have a proper handover so no idea if it was there before but in any event, they just decide how much to change including a EUR50 fee and charge your credit card. Customer service appalling and very sharp practice. "

We were given the keys and the plan of the car showing minor damage on the rear corner of the drivers side. When we examine the car more closely, we found five other areas of minor damage and informed the man at the reception desk who came and took photographs. All of these were obvious, and I was extremely surprised that they had not been put onto the plan. I find it unacceptable that this procedure is only possible for someone who has a smart phone with roaming. What about those who do not have, or do not wish to have this technology? "

" Everything was needlessly stressful. We ordered a golf-sized car because paring in small Spanish towns can be tricky. They didn't have the car we ordered, so offered us an upgrade to a 4x4, which is far too large! We asked for a smaller car and were told there was a mini available for an additional charge. We shouldn't have to pay extra to get a car the size we'd ordered. So an argument ensued, which was a horrible start to our holiday. There was also confusion over what our insurance with Auto Europe covered, because the policy had not been emailed through and the voucher did not contain the information that Hertz needed. So we had to give a deposit of 800 euros. Hertz have only partially refunded us the money they made us pay them direct too. They still owe us 30 euros. I won't be using Hertz or Auto Europe again, unless these issues are addressed. "

" I've had very good service over the years from Auto Europe so I trust your company. The local firm in Tenerife felt dodgy. Old car and the feeling of them trying to rip me off. How will your industry rid yourselves if this? "
" This service was named Hertz but operated by a local firm. The car was a little beaten up. 28000km and many many bumps and scratches. I took about 15 pictures myself before leaving including several which were agreed by the Hertz assistant. The contract I made with Auto Europe was for full cover of the car but the counter person tried VERY VERY hard to sell further insurance. This is part of the stress we have to take on to rent a car. Surely the companies can agree not to behave this way. Due to not taking their insurance (which I believed I had paid for already) I had a large deposit put on my charge card, followed by the stress of waiting for that deposit return - would they inspect this bashed up car and find some further scratch in order to charge me, then rent the car out again. This is how it feels as a car renter. I expected a Hertz car to be quite new and in good condition. Therefore this local firm failed. Full stop. The return process - the guy looked around the car and asked me to sign a blank document. I asked what it said, I might have been signing anything. Perhaps this was a language problem. If I rent a car in Uk or USA I get a clean, unmarked, very new car. Often get an upgrade. Some places you just get treated badly as a renter. In the end it was ok but the rental industry needs to get its act together. "

" When we picked up the vehicle, after close scrutiny, there were at least 5 minor scratches that had not been acknowledged on the associated paperwork. I brought these to the attention of an employee who registered them on their system. We had an incident free week, but when we returned the vehicle a minute scratch (which I suspect was already present but we failed to see) was noticed at inspection. " Hi, overall the experience was positive, my only complaint was in the Auto Europe booking system if you set the collection or pick up time for 23:30 it does not warn you that you'll incur the "out of hours " fee! I contacted both AE & Hertz the night of our inbound flight to expect to be delayed. All though we actually arrived ahead of schedule I was charged the Out of hours fee. The agent explained 23:00 was the cut off but the web site allows booking collection up to 23:30? Small annoyance but cost €46 extra on the booking. Lesson learnt for next time... "

Hertz offered car upgrade for 9euro/day and than made a sign tiny little reciept, badly printed, so you really cannot read big part of it... where they charged us additional 106.48 euro for additional driver (which we never asked for !!!!!)and fuel purchase option 80.18 euro (what is this???) , location service charge 15.67 euro!!! On the one hand it was quick and efficient, but the wierd bit was that my electronic signature appeared on the contract documents, to signify that I accepted the car as described and photoed in detail, even though I hadnt seen it yet. I was then given the keys to collect the car in the car park, but there was no attendant there to query things with. Maybe because it was late evening, around 9.30pm? " Car was poor from a premium car hire company, I had also taken out additional excess protection but the Hertz desk advised that as my wife was using her credit card as the holding protection as I only had a debit card they said the company that auto Europe use would not pay out if I needed to claim as my wife was not on the hire agreement, they advised that I needed to pay for her to be an additional driver to ensure cover, I did thus even though my wife had no intention of driving. " The vehicle was very good ( paid for an upgrade offered) but unfortunately it failed to start the next day. a roadside assist attended after 40 mins and we were told it had to be replaced and to take it to the nearest depot while it was running and not to switch it off. We did only to find the depot closed an hour previously. futunatly it started the next day and was exchanges . the result we lost 4 hours of our holiday and had to change our plans for the evening. "

The car was in the wrong bay, there was no check out inspection, the car had a scratched rear bumper which I pointed out to the hertz staff on return, which thankfully they did not charge me. "
