The steering wheel had about 3:0 cms play in it, the shock absorbers were very poor, the sat nav was not set to give audible instructions and it was Pergeot not the Ford I had ordered - which they said had no sat-nav. It was dark when I took delivery and without any passing on of anything about the workings of sat-nav, it started very badly. They blamed you for the additional charges that they forced me to make and I said I would take it up with you later. They kept me waiting for an hour after landing to getting the keys for car. I want repayment of the additional charges for the sat-nav and insurance that I had already paid you. "

This included either €190 excess waiver fee or €1600 guarantee in case of any damage. I was in no position to walk away as we had 2 young children with us and over an hour drive from our destination. I called Interrent to let them know I wasn't getting the flight and I would get another one later if they could hold on to the car I've hired and they refused saying after 2 hours I would loose the right to the vehicle. I do not agree with that simply because I hired the car for that period of time between 12.00 on the 30/1/19 till 12.00 on the 4/2/19. I will make sure that I won't use yours services from now on and my family will do the same "

When returning the car they said the tyre damaged was different to the wheel damage even though they were in the same place. We protested strongly but they have taken 150 euros from our account. We did not use Interent but Goldcar who have taken them over, Goldcar already have a very bad name and I would have not used them if I had known before booking. "

" First I was given the wrong car, I rented an Astra or similar and was given a Mercedes Citan Crew Van, not similar at all (S Class on Interrent paperwork) and not a familiar car at all. After complaining, had to wait for 3 days and only option was a VW Polo (again, wrong class, much smaller than what I was supposed to receive). Ended up driving a Polo for almost a week with a family of 4, instead of a Astra or similar. Very bad customer service, never showed any interest in solving my problem (when I replaced Mercedes VAN for VW Polo other cars were parked there but were already assigned to other customers... why other customers and not me????). Again, very bad experience. "

" We had to wait a long time for the vehicle to be checked once we were sent out to the car park. They check the vehicles very thoroughly with video and photos of any damage before you leave with the car. This does take a long time and there was just one person doing it. When she finally got to us she found a tear in one of the tyres so we had to get another vehicle. It was a free upgrade but we did lose another half an hour. On return there were no hold ups. "

" I was given a hard sell when collecting the car. The representative told me that that the car I had booked would not be able to climb all the hills on the Island. So, why can I rent such a car? I was advised to upgrade to a diesel 1.5ltr car; at a cost of £50. I was going to upgrade until I was told I had to pay by card. Cash was unacceptable, according to the terms and conditions I had entered into. So, I declined the upgrade. I then had to pay an airport tax for collecting the car. I believe this cost should be added at the time of booking; especially when I have already confirmed to you my collection location. I made my frustrations known to the operator, who chose to tell me about the shortfalls of using bigger companies who subcontract... I will recommend to my friend, who has booked a hire car for us to share on 3 Aug 2019 from Basel for a week, to cancel the booking and use a straight forward and honest company, who do not look to exploit people at arrival. "

Some of counter staff weren't busy but officiously told to take a ticket from machine - but then called straight back to same member of staff!!! Was given hard sell on having to buy insurance for over £100 euros (special discount) even though the voucher from Auto Rental Europe said it was included. Man at counter was aggressive and tried to scare me into paying (others at counter were reluctantly paying) and said that the Auto Europe voucher was nothing to do with them. In the end I phoned Auto Rental Europe who told me it was included and to take the car without additional insurance. He said if they refuse you the car, phone back and we will source one from another supplier! Level of customer care was poor and surly. They gave me a vehicle condition sheet but when I went to the car (they didn't bother to come with me) there was far more damage. I went back with a mended form and witnessed an argument between a male and female staff members (I don't speak Portuguese but I think about who should do the photocopying?) They are clearly not bothered about the car of the customer - just trying to scam more money from each punter - shameful! "

The price however was extremely competetive in relation to other companies on the island "

" See my comments below. When I went to pick up the vehicle I was advised the vehicle I had booked wasn't very appropriate for use in Madeira which made me wonder why it was even available. The upgrade vehicle proved appropriate however. Also some rather confusing advice was given regarding fuel prices on the island which factored in my vehicle upgrade choice which I consider after the event to be misleading, if not wrong re the fuel pricing. I'm not usually minded to complain but consider that better information re vehicles should be provided at the time of booking if certain vehicles are inappropriate. Also there was a large cost for airport tax that should be better disclosed rather than modestly touched on in the fine print. "

" The staff forced me to take full insurance cover else she said she won't waive the additional charge of 40 euros due to late arrival to pick up the car. There was absolutely no customer service attitude shown by any of the staff present and had no sympathy with any of the customers who were present to collect the car due to delay in flight arrival. My friend even had to call the police since the staff refused to give car to him. There is absolutely no respect shown by any of the staff towards the customer. A charge of 185 Euros was taken as deposit for fuel + road taxes from my pre-paid card and I was promised the balance would be refunded in 3 to 5 working days after returning the car. However when I called the customer service they mentioned only 119 Euros where taken. I have sent an email to customer service with my car rental agreement and requested to refund balance of 185 - 30.70 = 154.30 Euros. Please note it is a "pre-paid" card and not a "credit card", so unblocking amount would not refund the balance. I also spoke to customer services number and she mentioned to drop an email and wait for 10 working days for reply. This is the worst experience I ever had in my life renting a car and I would never rent car from auto-europe or interrent again and would also let all my friends know about auto-europe and interrent. " We collected the car at 8.00pm when it was dark. Interrent insisted that we mark all the defects on the car on their form which was blank. They had not marked any defects. On other occasions with other rental companies they have always pre-filled the form with known defects and, when dark allowed us until 12.00pm the next day to notify them of any other defect or mark. " Didn't like the hidden extras. Was told we had to hire the toll tag or would have to go to a police station to pay for motorway toll usage. This should surely be included as part of the hire...... another €20. We were also told that we would have a €10 block on our card for toll fees, which would be adjusted after the hire term. Some time later an email was sent showing exactly €10 usage. Assumed this was an end to the hire, but another €10 was taken! The follow up email was sent from Goldcar, which had a link to follow if there was an issue..... however, it would not accept my email / reference combination, even though it was the address they had used, and with the exact same reference they themselves quoted. I tried to call, but the customer services number 'from the UK' was incorrect. Eventually got through on the phone and was told I would need to register my query online! Explained the issue, but was then told it was not a Goldcar issue (the statement / invoice was sent by them), and that I needed to contact interrent...... by email! Had lost the will by this stage..... took me back to the previous horrible Goldcar experience, so didn't bother. The real issue was how poorly this was explained at the point of collection, and the fact that the paperwork issued at that time was not translated - had to trust the rep on the desk. Second issue was when the card machine was presented for payment. I admit to not looking at the currency at the time....... it was always customary to be asked which currency you wish to use to pay, but I actually haven't been asked this for years - doesn't everyone now know to pay in the local currency? My card issuer charged me the anticipated foreign transaction amount on top of the payment...... so why did interrent also add on their own % mark up / devious hidden extra? Another name to avoid when scanning Auto Europe's listings in future! "

This time we arrived a bit (1.5 hours) earlier than planned as plane was on time and luggage reclaim was faster than expected. However we were unable to pick up the car, even though it was already there and ready, as 'computer said 'no'.....This was frustrating as it was quite late at night, and we were travelling with a toddler, a 93 year old and a heavily pregnant woman. Consequently we had to return to the airport and book and pay for a taxi for the rest of the family to take them to their accommodation, and then come back to inter rent an hour later to pick the cars up.... Obviously I could understand if the early pick up meant the whole rental would have then gone into a new 24 hour period, but this was not the case. The inside of one of our cars was a bit dirty (sandy, dusty etc.) Having said that, overall our experience was good. We have booked with you before and will no doubt use you again. "

" Upon ipicking up the car there were issues regarding which credit card I was able to pay the deposit with - once resolved I was told that there was noone to check the car so I would have to do so myself. There were also additional costs relating to rental of a motorway toll electronic device which were only mentioned at the check in desk. Upon return of the vehicle there was a scratch to one side of the vehicle which I accept full liability for. Having paid a deposit of over 900 euros however, I assumed that the costs would be deducted from that. This was not the case - I was told I had to pay for the costs of the damage separately and my deposit would be refunded once the car return was processed. I was also told I would receive an email with full details invoicing the payments made. It is now 4 days later and I have still not heard anything from Inter Rent. I have contacted their customer service team and received an automated response that 'they will respond within 14 days' - during which time I am £850 out of pocket, with no communication from the party holding my money "

" To be honest we are not very happy with our experience. When we arrived at the airport we called the number on the voucher but no one answered the call and after trying a good 4 times we decided to call the uk number. Then after being on the phone with someone for over 20mins they finally reached someone in Porto. The person we were meant to meet was supposed to be waiting by the car rentals stands but there was no one there. we had to ask around and finally got told that they were outside of the airport. The lady who was wasn't polite at all. When finally got to the car rental pick up. We were given a vehicle that didn't seem to have been cleaned properly. The windscreen was filthy but as we had been waiting so long to get out of the airport we decided to not say anything and just get on with our journey as we had our children with us and we didn't want them to be hanging around a car rental on their holiday. When I tried to clean the windscreen we found that there was no water to clean the windscreen at all so I had to fill up the bottle myself. Near the end of the holiday while I was parking the vehicle my partner noticed that the rear tyre was delaminating on the inside. This is not what I or anyone would expect from a rental car especially for families with children. I would really appreciate someone to get back to me on this as this is unacceptable. "

" Recently hired a car through auto europe, who used INTERRENT in the airport. I have traveled over 20 times to Portugal in the past 10 years and have never dealt with a company who were so appalling I had to write a review to warn any one who use's this company. On arrival you are to take a ticket ( advised by other rental users), 2 hours later I was given a car, the lady wrote in large letters on top of the form I was given NO INSURANCE. I had to go out and find the car and then document the scratches and dents and defaults myself, and then go back and agree the damage ( I had basic cover and knew the excess I would have to pay) There was not enough room on the diagram to document the damage. I then got a young lad to come out and agree the damage ( he said he would not accept the car if it was him). Back to see the supervisor who basically said there was no other car and i would have to accept it. After saying that this was not acceptable and played up, they gave me a car which I could say was ok for my time in Portugal. "

It would have been impossible to collect the cars within 1 hour, 2 hours or 6 hours of the booking time as that was the middle of the night. My family had no option but to take 2 taxis to our accommodation 30 minutes out of Porto at a cost of €130. The next day, I tried unsuccessfully to call the local number and the Autoeurope number. The only way to return to Porto was by bus – we went to the village bus stop but it did not arrive. Eventually, we persuaded the accommodation owner to give us a lift back to Porto Airport – we arrived at 19:00. There followed a bizarre exchange at the desk involving the Interrent face to face and Autoeurope on the phone (the interrent rep was able to do what I had failed to do repeatedly during the day – actually get through immediately to speak to someone at Autoeurope). Both companies 'understood that our late arrival was not our fault, sympathised, agreed that we could not have done anything different (the flight was delayed after we were already on board the aircraft and therefore communication was impossible). Each company blamed the other for us not being able to collect the cars which Interrent confirmed were still available without first paying an 'unblocking fee' of €190 PER CAR - €380! I could not afford to pay that and therefore was not given the cars. I am now in the process of pursuing repayment of the £575.28 This is the worst travel experience of my life. "

They then emailed us to notify us of the issue, which seems a pretty sneaky way of telling us about the issue after the fact - I would have asked for a different car if given the opportunity, as the issue with seatbelts related to the backseat where my two small children were sitting! The agent told me that he was giving me an Audi A3 as a consolation which I thought was a free upgrade . What I didnt find out untill afterwards was they charged me extra as it was a diesel car plus a gadget to record any motorway miles I did . Also tried to sell me additional insurance which I had already bought from you but they appeared to have no record of. Returning the car was a very unpleasant experience where the young lady took the sheet where the record of the initial of the car condition was recorded . I will stop there but I would be very reluctant to hire from Internet again I am still waiting to receive my final invoice with the toll charges which should be minimal. I dont like this philosophy of offering cheap prices for rental cars which do not reflect what the final total will be after the hard sell of the extras. "

" When I arrived, I was told to call the number to meet someone to take me to where to get the car. No one answered the phone for 20 mins and it was only by chance when I asked a Hertz member of staff to help that she pointed out the guy working for interrent. Then got taken to the hire place and had to get a ticket to wait to be seen. 2 people serving and 15 people waiting to pick up their cars. Would have had to wait 1-2 hours had I not had to pay 20euros to get priority. The car was old, lots of scratches, dents. Tyre pressure warning came on immediately so had to stop to put air in. "

We could not find the person at Porto Airport for ages as she had a clip board which said inter rent at the top covered by folded over paper and Reddy (a different car rental company) at the bottom which was the only bit visible. We tried calling the number provided on the voucher and there was no response. We rang the UK number but the person we spoke to was unable to help either. It would have been a 10 out 10 score for everything if the instructions about how to get the car were clearer and if the meet and greet staff displayed the sign clearly. " I was not informed by Auto Europe or Interrent that they had changed depot location on 1st June, 10 days before my rental, took us 30 mins to find out we were in the wrong location at car park 4 and a long walk back through arrivals to the Gold Car site. When we got there, a queue of approx 20 were waiting for their cars. Overall we were at least 2 hours delayed over the time we have spent previously. The depot is too small there are very few seats and therefore there where many customers who were tired and very irritated. If this is the level of service on a Monday evening 10th June, I dread to think how the will get through July and August. When we returned the car on the morning of the 20 th June, there was not room to drop of the car inside the compound and staff were struggling to park cars oiut side the compound to allow clients to return cars and catch their flights. "

" I've rented over 20 vehicles over the past 5 years with Interrent and they are very good. Never had any major issue with them... Also in many cases they provide the most affordable deals. However, from time to time, they try to implement new ways of getting some extra money which upsets the customers... This time forcing us to pay a fee of either 8 or 15 € for car cleanup (with the threat that if the car is not returned completely clean they can charge us up to 90€). We didn't pay and they didn't seem to have charged us anything, but it annoying this type of extra fees. "

Thirty minutes wait while agents harassed customers (via selling tactics) from insurance, emergency breakdown fees then the best one, paying options for cleaning the car on return, WHAT? I reported this to the agent and she made a note of it. All this culminated in a nervous rental thinking what 'alleged' fees are they going the potentially heap on me when I return it. I cleaned the car inside and out prior to return just to make sure. A BIG dampener on my holiday and NEVER again. They also demanded 90+ Euro for a full tank of fuel for a Fiat 500!!! and additional charge for a transponder to use the motorway that I wasn;t going on. After refusing to pay and heading back to the airport they agreed to drop the fuel and transponder charges. We hired the car but then had the same argument when we returned the car and they again demanded the fuel charge. I request you refund the 85.5 Euro insurance charge as advertised within 7 days to avoid litigation as I intend to instruct solicitors to recover the cost. I will also be notifying the press. "

The Interrent rep meets you at the customer service desk at Lisbon Airport, we were then taken outside to wait for 1hour for the next available shuttle to the car rental office, (which is really quite far away from the airport) we then had to wait again and queue for a further 2 hours before being able to process our booking and collect the car - total chaos! The drop off in Faro was far better organised than the Lisbon set up! "

" So far in all 4 rentals I did using a pre paid voucher with autoeurope all were good experience except for one ( the first one) where the rental desk was not opened at the time of drop off and I had to leave the keys with guerin in the airport of lisbon since I had to take a flight early in the morning and the off airport supplier interrent was closed at that time. They charged me 20 for one way. Apart from that all were ok. I would jut suggest to add this info on the t&c the out of hours and the owf. I have always left excess blocked and they unblock it usually 3 days before drop off which is good. Hope u continue to provide good service. "

" 48 hour LPG claim could meet the price on the website as sometimes this doesn't match up. The rental was 109.45£ when price had gone down to 105.35£. Anyway received some refund so as for t&c I paid only fuel locally since fuel was prepaid. So total spent was 109.45£ + Full tank of fuel of 79.80£ for 16 days rental and car received was a 4 door Fiat punto. Dropped off yesterday. Had taken pics of any damage the car had at the pick up. Mitigated one scratch in the bottom and they confirmed the scratch was already there from a previous contract since 22 August. So all okay, the car has been delivered without further damage and intact and excess was already unblocked from the cc even before drop off. My 2nd hire and 2nd great experience. "

" Had booked equivalent of a Peugeot 206 and were asked if we were happy to take a brand new 2 door car so we said yes. When we got the car we had to put the back seats forward so we could get one case in the boot and the car had only a 500litre engine so was very underpowered, even on the motorway where I constantly had to change down to third gear. It was a Fiat 500. Also they tried to sell me another excess insurance at about 10 euros a day, even though I had bought that from Auto Europe. Luckily I declined and left a credit card number as security for the excess. Could very easily have been persuaded to take this, but knew there was no need. "
