We have used your company a number of times and this is the first time that something has been raised. I could understand if it was significant damage but the dent was small and insignificant compared to the items we found. "

To be told i was late and my car had been given to someone else and you had no cars for me !! i had to call the broker as the girl behind the desk was very iunhelpful. i was on hold to the broker for 40 mins and then he cut me off . i called back and gain was waiting for 40mins whilst they called head office so they could speak to the counter staff. she would not speak to the man i had on the phone . i then called back and spoke to a lovely lady that check with the supervisor and offered me a full refund !! and then i went to Alamo car rentl and paid nearly double just so i could get a car and have a holiday . i then waked past all your bays and there were plenty of cars there which she could have helped me hire . " They clearly try to make money of the very unobvious marks/dents, you need to be extremely thorough at taking pictures on pickup. The lady skipped around the car not paying much attention to the 21 listed marks dents. Then when to the smallest mark on a rear wheel like she knew it was already there looked like a dirty mark and very small. Luckily I had pictures of this on pickup so she then said you will get your deposit back. I will definitely not use them again. "

" I feel strongly that I have been the subject of a damage scam. On return of the vehicle, the agent quickly found several small round indentations in the roof of the car and on its bonnet. Given their uniform shape and size and random occurrence, they must have been caused by hail, but there was no hail at all during our stay. I suspect that this damage existed before we took the car, but they were difficult to spot and so I didn't see them. Italy Car Rent was simply uninterested in explaining how these indentations could have happened during the hire period and were very quick to charge me damage, which "coincidentally" amounted to the amount of my security deposit. I have written to them complaining about this treatment, but they have not replied. "

The staff didn't seem to care that we had ordered a bigger and better car and no discount was given. There was no air con in the back which was awful given the temperatures that week! Never again! "

" The upfront price of the rental was cheap but when I arrived at the counter I was hit with 30€ charge for wanting to drive my car in France. This was not highlighted when I made the booking and took the price of the rental up to one of the bigger car rental firms. Had I known that, I would not have used Italycarrent. The car itself was battered - lots of damage which made it very difficult to check the status report that I was handed at the beginning of the rental Plus it absolutely stunk of cigarettes - it was quite frankly disgusting. When I returned the car, I was told that there was additional damage to the vehicle. Fortunately, I had taken a video of the car at pick up (I've had this experience before with a cheaper rental company so now always do this) so was able to demonstrate that the damage was there when I picked it up. However, this took well over half an hour. I had plenty of time to spare, but anyone in a rush would feel pressured to sign the document and take the hit. I also have a private insurance to cover my excess so the stress of having to pay for any damage was removed but anyone without that would probably be very anxious. The counter staff were very polite and courteous throughout but overall it was not a great rental. "

The car offered 1.1 had 20 damages and I was not allowed to see it before I had to sign to say I accepted its condition, 1.2. so I had no choice but yo pay c. €130 for their extra insurance and 1..3. when I eventually was allowed to see it, I discovered it had no GPS, which I had paid for. 2. After a long and acrimonious delay they provided me with a suitable car, but by then I had so little confidence in them that I didn't cancel the extra insurance 3. When I returned the car there was noone around (at 7.45am - they were supposed to open at 7.30am) so more anxiety 4. The car was undamaged but they wrote to me afterwards saying falsely that I had done €300 damage to a door. They seem not to have taken the money from my bank 5. All of this was difficult for me and my wife to endure. We are very unhappy. We booked a car through you in Greece at the end of March - that was the opposite - a good experience "

" My flight out to Catania from Newcastle was cancelled at 0200 with an 0500 check in. After handling the flight re-booking process (now for a midday departure) I got onto trying to maintain the hire car booking. The Auto Europe emergency hotline wasn't manned in the early hour so I requested a call back from the auto menu. None ever came. I persisted as I made my way across Europe. The score is marked down due to a combination of the useless hotline response and the first agent who just said - well no hire company is going to keep the car for you if you are delayed by 8 hours. They wont stay on beyond normal closing time so - tough, its all in the terms and conditions. Ammy was his name, he said he'd put a request in for another car and to ask for him when I was next in a position on the ground to check progress. Thankfully, the next time I was able to make contact, in Paris, a great woman, (sadly I didn't catch her name in the hubbub of the terminal) was able to take up the case and it felt as if she was genuinely working on my behalf. The deal wasn't resolved until I spoke to her again from Rome when she told me that a car would be available that night if I made it through arrivals in Catanisa by 00.30 (1.5 hours after nominal closure time) and if I missed that then the rental Company would exceptionally hold a car till the following morning. I couldn't ask for more than that after 20 hours of travelling. It was unfortunate that my earliest experiences of Auto Rentals problem solving were of no contact followed by no interest. "
" Italy Car Rent were both very good in some ways and bad in others. The counter staff stayed on past the nominal closing time of 23.00 to cope with my delayed flight. From the small gathering at the counter when I eventually got there, I'd say I wasn't the only one to need this service and it was provided because several people were delayed sufficiently through no fault of their own. I was happy just to get the car and content to pay the extension fee. Nevertheless, the pick up was well handled. The drop off was equally smooth - but where to start with the modern day piracy that is the vehicle condition inspection? I returned my vehicle with a very small (7mmx 1 mm) scratch to primer on the edge of the driver's door. I don't know how or where it occurred but I take responsibility for it and if necessary I'm prepared to bear the cost of repair. I signed up for this and even took out full insurance to cover it. Why? because it's Sicily and the only cars without scratches on the island are those that have just arrived from the dealers. My car had 500 km on it - delivery only miles. Anyway the scam is the collusion between the rental company and the insurance companies. The scheme of damage repair costs bears no relation to real costs (the agent receiving the car said this and had the decency to apologise for the policy). I seriously doubt that repairs such as retouching scratches like this are ever really done. The fees are simply fines charged for as long as the the car is new enough to get away with it. Their description as repairs is probably legally challengeable. The rental company receives a premium per scratch on top of the hire fees and the insurance companies similarly profit from the excessive rates. They work hand in glove. You feel cheated even if covered by insurance. This is wear and tear not damage. Fine, if you want to press the point, but it amounts to a new vehicle premium. Despite all normal levels of care, it is Sicily with Sicilian infrastructure and driving. Someone is going to accrue the scratches and pay for the privilege. The sooner this fraud is taken to the UK Financial Conduct Authority/European Commission the better. In the meantime its sophistication grows and hire car companies are less and less likely to see return customers . "

" I complained to Auto Europe but I didn't get any useful help. I was sent a copy of the Damage Matrix. It included cost of replacing items which I was billed for but evidently the wheels would not be replaced as the damage was superficial. "

The male told us his name was Andreas however the lady refused to give her name which is a clear indicator of knowing she had done wrong. " Booking was easy and t&cs were clear. Could have had reviews of the rental company on the site so I could have seen that they quite frequently scam renters out of their deposit. When I called the helpline to inform them of the flight delay they were helpful but I felt they could have done more and despite the automated voice at the start saying the call would only be able to be conducted in English, the man who answered the call actually started by speaking French but quickly changed to English when asked. They argued this was not sufficient proof I had not caused the damage and charged me 280Euros. They also charged me a late pick up fee of 60 euros despite arriving before the pock up deadline as they said this was incorrect and they actually closed at 10pm not 11pm. I did have a flight delay and so would have accepted the charge had I arrived past 11pm but by some miracle I made it before and they still charged me. "

" The car we received was covered in marks that they had indicated to us. However after we returned the car (out of hours due to an early flight) we received an email to say they were charging almost €900 for damage to the windscreen and a small scuff mark on the interior. We had a video to show the windscreen damage (a tiny, tiny mark that most other hire companies tell you to ignore) had been present on collection so on providing them with this they reduced the cost to just under €200. We hadn't taken any photos of the interior but in my opinion the mark should've have been attributed to normal wear and tear on a car that had almost €40000km on the clock and had significant damage to the exterior. Personally I would not recommend using this company but if you do, video the inside and the outside of the car. The costs claimed by the company were also excessive and not reflective of how much they would cost to fix and as seen from the condition of the car we received they don't repair any damage anyhow! They failed to respond to my request for a justification for the costs. I think car hire practices need to be more tightly regulated to ensure extortion is not allowed. "

We hadn't needed to use snow chains for the duration of our trip but my husband had looked under the booth flooring where the spare wheel was and noticed there was a package there which we assumed were the snow chains for incase we needed them. Upon dropping the car off (key box) we recieved an email stating snow chains were missing as well as they needed to do a full upholstery clean to the car. The car was not entirely clean when we picked it up but we didn't mind too much as we are a young family so know there will be a full valet required when dropping off the car (full valent is standard with any hire company). Italy car rent charged us €60 for cleaning and €80 for missing snow chain. Both completely ridiculous! We've been hiring cars for over 20 years now and have never come across a service like this. Complete con artists. We are pursuing the matter further. There is also no point in speaking with Italy car rent customer services as they will make false claims with little evidence - they know very well what they are doing! To add, the staff are incredible rude. We are utterly disgusted by our experience. "

" I admit I did make a an error in stating the pick up time but I never realised just how how critical the pick up time was (I have hired cars frequently through AutoEurope and have also suffered many flight delays.! I've never experienced a case where my rental was cancelled until this one. My booked cost of rental was about £95. In the terminal the only company to be able to offer a car was Sixt at €600. I did eventually manage to find a car for €177 (LocAuto) which was ready 5 mins after completing the paperwork. No problems with this contract. good quality car, good service, good fast return. available from the Airport car rental area opposite arrivals. "

" AutoEurope, when contacted for help, threatened not to reimburse me and impose a penalty because allegedly we were late picking up a car that I have prepaid for (fees are per 24 hours from when rented pursuant to T&CS + 11 days paid for), even though we have arrived on the flight in time identified in the reservation form. In any event, no such term for "late arrival" exists in T&Cs / the Voucher. AutoEurope also refused to rebook with another provider and a number of providers in Verona airport had the same cars available. Italy Car Rent at the time said that it is AutoEurope's duty to do so (but I have no idea as to your internal arrangements with Italy Car Rent. "

This was neither made clear when booking nor on the booking voucher - there is nothing mentioned under the "Additional fees to be paid locally" section (even though it lists things like hiring child seats and GPS units!). This is such a common thing, especially when renting near a border like Turin, that it really should be made more obvious. When I phoned to complain (having picked up the car) I was extremely disappointed that you (Auto Europe) weren't willing to offer any compensation, or even admission that this is not made clear at any point in the process of booking and picking-up the car. The car rental companies used have all had good staff and the cars have been in good condition and value for money. " Whole process very straightforward. Staff in the office in the airport friendly, efficient and helpful explaining all the paperwork and conditions. It was about a 350m walk to collect the car keys and car. Simple handover red triangle missing but a replacement provided immediately. The car was clean and a very comfortable model and drove very well. The only slight issue was that it was not made very clear where to return the car and keys. Not a big issue but necessitated a visit to the office inside the airport to find out first. "

The fact we hired 3 cars, all having alleged " new damage" ? 1 which was proven false, 1 which was disputed and 1 from car that was released without a current damage sheet! One driver did not get a defect/damage sheet but was assessed to have caused additional damage. How was this known? The last driver was offered additional insurance on pick up but had insurance. Italycarrental refuse to acknowledge this insurance and deducted the amount from the surety held on his credit card, although the amount was in dispute. All in all not a pleasant experience, an unsavoury end to a fantastic holiday. "

" Hiring a car in Italy is always a chaotic and bureaucratic experience, this was on the upper end of chaos. "
" The desk experience in Florence was a chaotic slow nightmare, with the rental desk using an internet based system for the rental agreement (everything being double-keyed from original booking), but the wifi not working properly - making every customer a 15 minute process. 3 customers ahead, so wait time was 45 minutes standing in a crowded (shared) room in miserable conditions. Picking up the car was then a 10 minute walk elsewhere. Car was covered in dents and scratches (over 20). "

Travelling from the North West of Italy to go to the area East of Milan, I thought it might be less stressful to take a train to Milan and rent a car for the local journey once there. It turned out to have a similar cost in any case taking into account petrol and motorway costs. You should consider it as a service: Train + Car "

" Italy car rent – 29/4/24 – 13/5/24 The service on arrival was slow with it being difficult to understand the staff. Far worse was the service on return. There was no return space with cars parked everywhere. I got out of the car only to be shouted at by the employee not to leave it there. I pointed out that there was nowhere to park and she said she would park it. She then rudely demanded the keys and I pointed out I had left them in the ignition. She then shouted at my wife to get out of the car as she would move it. She did not move it and checked the fuel and mileage. She then got out and went immediately went to the nearside front wheel and called me over demanding to see photos of the car when I picked it up. I said I had not taken photos as I saw little point as there we so many marks on the sheet – 20!! Also when I collected the car it was so tightly parked you could not get round to take photos apart from the rear. She said she did not check most of the car just the wheels as there was no damaged marked on the wheels. She demanded we sign the form but I refused as we had not caused the damage to the wheel – it clearly had been scraped on a high kerb. It is as if she knew the wheel was damaged and went straight to it and I feel I am being scammed here because I did not take out their insurance which she kept telling me. I have yet to receive any notification as to any charges on my security deposit. " when we arrived the person was not helpful at all in terms of showing us to our car, we eventually found it. It was dirty, the windscreen was so greasy on the inside we had to pull over and clean it, the petrol was only 3/4 full and clearly showed it was. The car stank of smoke and cigarettes, so we pulled over to find a smoked cigarette in the car!!! The guy at drop off was very helpful and polite and should be told so but all in all not a great car, will avoid Italy Carrent in future unless we can be assured this won't happen again, thanks, Claire "

Total rip-off. "

I was unable to sure the vehicle for 2 days due to an error on Italy car rents part, they accepted this but then refused to reimburse for their error! 8 emails of correspondence whilst on holiday with a co. That doesn't accept responsibility or reimburse the customer even after they advised me to resolve on their behalf, incredible. "
" I collected the car which had damage but photos taken by the co. Recorded, so ok. The pre ordered snow chains were present in the boot but... on the second day when fitting the chains up a mountain in snow the chains were found to be 2 sizes too small. The journey was abandoned and I contacted the co. They took 2 days of correspondence to accept responsibility and advise to buy the correct chains and they would reimburse. After purchase they insisted on an invoice in addition to a receipt. But then refused to accept and reimburse as they wanted an invoice from the retailer??!! Made out to them?? We lost 2 days use of the vehicle in a ski resort as we had no snow chains. On drop off they received the chains and still refused to reimburse so I am currently €85 in deficit all due to Italy car rent! Please can you assist with compensation!!! "

" Overall voucher worked well, the guy didn't try any hard core sales on insurance, probably as he had a massive queue and it was 11pm! Car was good, he said video it before I left which I did and I need that on return as there was an extra door dent not on the list. "

" I had a flat battery, and had to pay to get the car started. The mechanic that came said there was an issue with the battery and advised not to switch the engine off. I returned the car early but could not refuel. When I returned it the Italy Car Rental agent could not start the car. They said I must have left the lights on but this is not correct. I parked over night in the dark so it would be obvious if I had. Also the car engine light came on and advice is always to take the car to the garage. I paid to get the car started and have been charged a ridiculous amount for less than half a tank of petrol. Italy Car Rental said I should have called them which I did 3 times and they called me so they new I had a problem "

" Awful! First time ever I rented from Italycarrent as they recently have very competitive rates on this platform (I have been using AutoEurope for years and mainly at Venice Airport). I quickly realised why the rates are so low... I collected the car with complete darkness and as always I trusted the eventual damages were recorded in the rental documents I signed. Never had any problem in the past with other dealers. At the moment of returning the car, the lady at the drop off started checking the car with the meticulosity of a surgeon. Two damages in opposite parts of the car were found and she contested them to me. I am absolutely sure that the car was not damaged during my rental period. Obviously she didn't care about what I believed as it was my word against her and she said it was my duty to check the car before leaving the airport. Fine. I had to paid Euro 371 (the rent for 3 days was about £15). The element that made me immediately think that this is a regular modus operandi of the rental car company (alongside very unusual competitive rates) is that while the lady was contesting the damages to me, two more customers that had just got the keys from the rental office, came straight to the drop off office as they noticed several damages that were not shown in the contract they had just signed. Bingo... Please let me know if there is something I can do to get back the money Italycarrent unfairly charged me. Many thanks in advance. "

" Signage to the location of the collection point is very poor and despite the info provided by AutoEurope stating it was in the Terminal the pick and drop off points are outside in the long stay car parks and made it a tad difficult for me to ensure my 84 year old mother was not having to traipse between the car park and the terminal. Also when I collected the vehicle there were only two people dealing with customers, which resulted in my having to wait almost an hour to be given my keys. I appreciate this was not entirely their fault as one of the customers in front was taking a long time, but there were others in the kiosk that could maybe have picked up the slack to help the rest of us that were organised and to send us on our way!! not great!! " No signs at all to tell you where the office was, went to another car rental area. Finally found the small porta-cabin tucked away out of sight. Waited ages to be served. Could see the people in front of us waited ages too. Very frustrating as there was spare staff there at desk, but did not look up at us. The man then said you landed ages ago, your booking was for earlier time. Implying we were in the wrong and lucky.... to still have a car. Like it was our fault. . Very unapproachable service, unfriendly. Ended up paying a lot more as wouldn't accept my credit card in my name as I wasn't the driver. So I said make me the driver and my husband the additional driver. He said he couldn't do that as booked online in husbands name. Then he said he could put up the insurance high to cover? A few hundred more Euros. He was then smiling by the time we finished. Booked an automatic online but we were given given a manuel. Otherwise car great, service terrible and miserable. "

The GPS was useless - outdated - telling us to make turns at junctions which are now roundabouts and on one occasion telling us to turn left which would have taken us off the road through crash barriers with a big drop into a field. " I have held off from responding to this feedback about your service in the hope and expectation that you were going to sort out the problem with this rental which was cancelled following a phone conversation between myself and one of your staff on the morning of the 28th August. During tht conversation your representative confirmed that we would be refunded the full costs as we had contacted you more than 48 hours before the car was due to be collected. During the same conversation your colleague found another rental from a different company (Centauro) which was booked and paid for. It was only when I checked my Barclaycard statement on returning from our holiday that I noticed we had not been refunded the cancelled Italy Car Rent booking. I naturally assumed this was just an oversight on your part. Subsequently I have emailed you on at least three occasions and lodged a formal request via your website have not had even the courtesy of a reply. I am quite disgusted at this appalling lack of customer care and service and the and am in the process of asking Barclaycard to intervene to recover the money. I have used Auto Europe on many occasions in the past and have always been impressed with the quality of service and professionalism you regularly demonstrated. In fact I was particularly impressed with your colleague who sorted out this late cancellation and found us an even better deal with Centauro. When getting into the car, we could not change the displays etc. from Italian to English language. We asked one of the helpful staff if they could assist, but they failed even after trying for at least 15 minutes. Later on our journey, the host in our AirBnB managed this task in 3 minutes...! Also, we agreed full-to-full petrol, but were told at the start of the rental that the tank was only half-full - this was extremely difficult to judge when returning the car - particularly due to the unclear fuel gauge display in the new VW Golf.
