" When i made the booking i opted for the full waiver insurance, with no excess and an 800 euro hold on my credit card. I paid £180 for the 7 day hire. When i picked up the car i was informed at the Europcar desk that the insurance option id chosen ( there were only 2 options ) still came with a 4000 euro excess if any damage was caused and if i wanted to upgrade to full no liability insurance id need to pay a further £326 pounds on top of the £180 id already paid . So stood there with my entire family, tired after a very long day travelling i basically had no choice but to pay this extra. This is nothing short of extortion and a disgusting practice, ripping people off. I expected more from a well known company. Ive previously used Spanish companies for car hire without any issue at all with clear, transparent insurance policies. I will be contacting the ombudsman and sending a formal complaint to Keddy as well . Shameful behaviour "

" I was given a BYD Hybrid car that needed to be charged or so it seemed. As it turned out the battery was faulty from the factory. Even with all of this getting stranded on the side of the road, the treatment was excellent. The tow truck came within a half-hour. They even sent a car service to pick us up. The tow truck mechanic and I both thought at first that the problem was that the battery had not been charged but after charging the car for over five hours the battery drained immediately. Once again the battery wouldn't allow the car to move. We had to leave it off for a little bit in order to make it back to the hotel. The next day we requested a new car and another tow truck had to come remove the car. Eventually, we were taken to receive a new rental car from Granada, Spain. The company sent us a taxi that had to take us about an hour from where we were staying. The second car had no issues and I was able to continue with my journey. "

" Not happy about the out of hours admin charge levied by Europcar office, this was not made clear at point of sale, only appearing in contract small print. The fee charged was more than the contract amount, but either way was excessive as a percentage of the hire charges. The car provided was tatty, had 40,000km recorded, and covered in bodywork and wheel defects. The interior was dusty and jaded. Plastic trim was loose in the boot (I fitted it back myself before returning the car). It made me very nervous suspecting claims for damage on drop off of the vehicle, I had to take more than twenty photos to document the existing condition at time of pickup (in the dark it was obvious the car was covered in scrapes, chips and scratches. However upon returning the car the member of staff was efficient and polite, explaining that we were intended to be the last customer for this car as it was scheduled for disposal. I am not a fussy customer, so the car worked out suitable, but the additional admin charge spoiled my start on holiday, and not what you would expect from a front line service provider. Flight times are not always predictable and fines on top of delays are not welcome. "

I had to find the car myself no-one offered to show me round the car. The instructions for where the car was parked were incorrect. I also had to take my own photos of the car and then email them through to auto-europe. This proved impossible due to ispn issues overseas, which was stressful. Obviously it's better if a rep from the company shows you round the car. Next time I will use a smaller company off the airport. "

" When buying the rental online full damage waiver insurance is offered (granted by the agent) and I often take this up recognising I would need to pay for any damages and claim this back. However, when in resort and collecting the car the staff have no knowledge of this insurance and again try and sell you all forms of damage waiver insurance at a great cost. Far higher cost than the actual rental. My daily rental was approx £25 per day including damage waiver insurance, however the in resort insurance was offered at £21, £35 and £48 per day (for 3 varying cover levels) - the pressure sell is uncomfortable with warning of having to deal with foreign police and lawyers if an accident occurred. Why can't your agents and your rental company speak to each other and stop this hard sell to those who have already covered the risk? " When buying the rental online full damage waiver insurance is offered (granted by the agent) and I often take this up recognising I would need to pay for any damages and claim this back. However, when in resort and collecting the car the staff have no knowledge of this insurance and again try and sell you all forms of damage waiver insurance at a great cost. Far higher cost than the actual rental. My daily rental was approx £25 per day including damage waiver insurance, however the in resort insurance was offered at £21, £35 and £48 per day (for 3 varying cover levels) - the pressure sell is uncomfortable with warning of having to deal with foreign police and lawyers if an accident occurred. Why can't your agents and your rental company speak to each other and stop this hard sell to those who have already covered the risk? She said we'd booked a car that was too small for our two cases. On my booking form it clearly said I'd booked an MG3 or equivalent but she said it was a Fiat 500. She then said incorrectly that it was a Fiat Panda I'd booked. After much 'discussion' it became clear that I had 2 options. I could abandon my booking and go elsewhere or I could accept that I had to have the big car that she insisted was the only one that would be suitable. Having decided to take the quicker option and take the bigger car I said I didn't need their full cover for insurance because I'd taken out a separate policy before leaving home. She said that if I didn't take out Europcar's extra protection she would need an excess deposit of 6400 Euros. It was an extremely stressful and annoying experience and I'll never book through Auto Europe or Europcar again. "

The returns staff were dishonest in their dealings with me and falsified the claim and documents. To date my photographic evidence has not even been acknowledged. " Nobody was available to agree pick up damage. I was told to take photographs. Rental was uneventful and when returning everything was agreed verbally to be in order. No mention of any perceived damage or charges. Despite everything being okay a charge was made to my credit card greater than the cost of the rental for a week without any invoice or billing. When queried through Auto Europe they sent a Declaration of Return that had been falsified to say damage had been incurred during my rental and pictures of a scratch which was much smaller than their minimum size of 2cm. This scratch existed when I collected the car and I had taken a timed and dated photo on collection (as instructed by them!). This irrefutable photographic evidence was submitted to them through Auto Europe. To date (6th May 2025) no further response has been received. Awful and illegal service "

" I collected my car from Keddy. They gave me a Renault Twingo. I told them my booking was for a Corsa or similar. He told me that a Twingo was the same group. I pointed out that a Twingo is a smaller car and in a different group. He told me that my rental was a group EDMR and that a Twingo was a group EDMR. On the Keddy paperwork it says MDMR/EDMR. To make it worse he told me that you can't get a case in a Twingo but I could pay 20€ a day extra to have a bigger car. I pointed out that I had booked a bigger car - a Corsa but he wouldn't change from telling me a Twingo was the same group. He then told me it was illegal to put any bags on the rear seats, which I think was to try and upsell me to the bigger car he had already mentioned. He then told me it was very bad on petrol and would cost me 250€, without even asking what my plans were. I declined his attempts to upsell me a car I had already paid for but was forced to take the Twingo as luckily we didn't have a case. As we were leaving the counter he said "enjoy the Twingo" ironically. Absolutely terrible service. Very dissatisfied and had to have a hopeless small car for 10 days. "

We had to note 15 points of damage over the 4 they had highlighted on the car rental documentation. I sent in 4 emails the following morning with the updated damage. Something I could have done without! Was concerned they were going to be awkward about car return, but assume because of our diligence knew we were not customers who were going to pickup the cost of someone else's damage! "

Always the hard sell for an upgraded car (in the same category I'd booked anyway) and then the scare tactics/lies saying I'll have to pay €1400 excess for each scratch that they deem my fault, which is not true. If I wrote the car off it would be the max €1400 excess not unlimited amounts for each scratch! Queue to get car is always heaving because they're saying the same to everyone. If you fall for the scare tactics it's going to cost you double the rental as well. All a big con. "

" The experience was absolutely horrific, as I lost absolutely everything. I cannot understand how Europcar can rent out a car with that much damage. The contract details did not match the car, but I did not have that information when I signed the contract. I reserved a VW T-Roc and was given a badly damaged Suzuki Vitara which is most certainly not a similar car to the T-Roc. "
" I was given a car that had a lot of damage - according to the staff only small scratches, but in fact huge marks and dents all over the front and side of the car. While we were checking the damage, my handbag and laptop bag was stolen from the car, and we are in no doubt that at least one Europcar employee was involved in the theft, as he was washing a car in a bay immediately behind my rental car. A lot of the damage was only described in Spanish, and may well have been for a completely different car. Also the make and number plate of the car did not match the make and number plate on the contract sleeve nor that of the actual car. Europcar were not at all interested to help in any way. We know where my things were taken, but the police just said that it is a very dangerous area and they would not go there. I sincerely hope that CCTV will prove that Europcar were involved in the theft. "

" I always use Auto Europe, it's simple to book, easy to see all the hire prices across all providers and available car classes. You can make as many changes to the car as you like when the price improves or cars become available. "
" Extremely slow pickup; approximately an hour wait even though there were only 3 people ahead of me. This was due to the persistent hard sell tactics on car upgrades and insurance, all costing hundreds of pounds more than the hire cost through Auto Europe. When refused staff claimed Auto Europe's cover wasn't worth the paper it was written on and I would be liable for thousands in excess. These fear tactics don't work on me but I can see how it would on others. The car itself had plenty of damage and I had to take photos of every panel to make sure I wasn't held responsible for it. It clearly has had a hard life even though it had done under 60k kms. Drop off was quick albeit impolite and I made sure I was there for the inspection to make sure I wasn't made liable for the existing damage. Not a great experience. "

" The paperwork instructed me to go to the Eurocar desk at arrivals. It was the furthers desk and I had a lot of luggage. This was time wasted as I was redirected to the car park 1st floor. Other rentals were on the ground floor. Only one elevator was working. Very slow progress. There was a ridiculous check in process. It wasn't clear the first 2 people I met were employees. They seemed to be teenagers chatting and fiddling with phones. The waiting area seemed unnecessary. Finally the check in counter did not listen and told me I would not fit my luggage into the car I'd requested and paid for. This was despite stating I'd done the exact journey in the same size car many times over the past 20 years. A larger SUV was offered for the same price. However, it was too big for the narrow streets and limited parking options at my destination and the boot was higher and uneven making loading luggage more difficult. Rear view mirror was completely obscured. SUVs are very poor cars. Too big, too heavy and very poor for the environment. I was annoyed. "

" We would like to make an official complaint with regards to our recent car hire . We arrived on nightfall on 26th Feb to collect our car. The agent convinced us to upgrade our cover and we were told our car was changed to an SUV. However, on our drive to correlejo that evening, whilst having to negotiate driving in the dark on the right hand side of the road, we started having concerns because the car was difficult to put into gear and upon approaching roundabout's, the car would not change gears, causing the engine to falter , to our consternation. On our next attempt to use the vehicle it quickly became apparent there was a serious mechanical issue causing us to pull over as soon as we were able. We then tried to ring the number provided in our contract but nobody answered and answerphone message was in Spanish so we could not understand. After several attempts to contact Europcar but to no avail, we were forced to abandon our plans and drive back to the airport to make contact with an agent, with the car failing at several roundabouts during this journey. Upon arrival at the drop off at the airport, our first contact was with a Gold Car agent who recognised this car and knew it had problems. We are extremely unhappy that we were placed in a position of danger by being given an unsafe car. We were advised to make sure we took photos just in case there were any issues afterwards. I did this at the start and end of the rental. The fuel gueage wouldn't register full at the end but we showed the receipts where we had just squeezed in the fuel to the top and there was no problem. I was charged for an existing scratch due to the fact that according to staff at Europcar right in their world is left! I saw the existing scratch when I picked the car up and it was noted that it was on the rear of the right hand bumper but when I returned the car the surly inspection agent told me that their version of the right of the vehicle actually meant left of the vehicle. Subsequently I was charged 127 Euros for existing damage. I don't why I,m bothering writing this it's not as if your company are going to do anything about this joke of a company. " I often use Auto Europe to book rental cars from the big US rental car firms in North America (US & Canada) and I have never encountered problems with any of the large US hire car firms. This is the worst hire car experience that I have ever encountered. Given the BLATANT lies that the Keddy drop-off employee made, I am making a formal complaint. UP until this car rental experience, I have always been very happy with Auto Europe's service and up until this terrible experience (which ruined y holiday), I would have given Auto Europe a rating of "10" in box "4 HOW LIKELY ARE YOU TO RECOMMEND AUTOEUROPE TO A FRIEND". If my complaint is not dealt with then I would feel I would remove the rating to "1 – NOT AT ALL LIKELY" as I would be left with the belief that Auto Europe does not in fact care about its customers and therefore I would not be able to recommend Auto Europe to any of my family or friends. " The car was damaged when I picked it up. I took photographs to prove this. When I dropped the car off the Keddy employee said there was damage to one of the wheel rims. When I said the wheel was like this when I picked the car up, the Keddy employee said he would remove the scratched wheel from the drop-off report and that I did not need to sign the report as he would take care of it and I could leave to catch my plane. This was a lie. He then added a second item of damage to the car, scratches on the tailgate of the car – in fact, like the scratch on the wheel, these scratches were on the car when I picked it up and I have photographs to prove this. When the drop-off report was emailed to me it said that I had refused to sign the drop-off report. This is a blatant lie as the Keddy employee said that it was not necessary for me to sign and that he would take care of it, and that there would be no items of damage on the drop-off report, as I had returned the car in the same condition as when I took it. I have a witness who was present throughout the drop-off process. I will NEVER use Keddy or EuropeCar again. I frequently use Auto Europe to book rental cars from the big US rental car firms in North America and I have never encountered problems with any of the large US hire car firms. This is the worst hire car experience I have ever had again. This is a formal complaint, especially given the serious lies that the Keddy employee made at the drop-off. "

This most recent experience however has made me doubt that Auto Europe can actually deliver excellent customer service in case something goes wrong. Can you reinstate that trust by resolving the issue caused by your subcontractor not fulfilling the agreed contract? "
" The reason I am totally unhappy about this rental is that the rental office you selected for my contract was not open at all. I made an expensive taxi trip to this office only to find it was closed (despite your order confirmation). When trying to phone the Keddy/Europcar numbers on the door/in the contract none of them seemed to be in service. Only once I phoned the Auto-Europe UK customer service number did I get to speak to a consultant who however was totally unable to help me. Her only suggestion was that she could cancel the contract and I would get refunded (all details should be in my contract file on your system). I was also told by your agent that any expenses made would be refunded by Auto-Europe. As I was unable to find an alternative rental in Cartagena, Spain I had to pay for a taxi to take me back to my temporary address in San Pedro del Pinatar. I managed to secure a rental the next morning in Torrevieja, however at additional cost for rental and yet another taxi ride in order to collect the car. In total I have spent more than 150 additional Euro's in order to get a similar rental arranged solely because of Auto Europe not being able to fulfil the agreed rental. Emails regarding wanting to make a claim and requesting all data you keep on your system regarding this contract to both your customer service and your GDPR team have remained unanswered. The only thing positive to report so far is that indeed my original rental fees have been refunded. However not a sign of wanting to accept liability for the additional expensed I incurred. " I was stung with the massive insurance excess. A drunk driver smashed into the rental car at 3am while the rental car was safely parked and empty. Europcar charged me the €1200 excess even though it was 100% not my fault; there was no effort to retrieve compensation from the drunk driver's insurance and I have no recourse. I feel abused / robbed by Europcar and will not go near Keddy/Europcar again given how they just charged me and walked away. " When we arrived at the desk, the first thing the assistant did was try to upsell us to an Audi. We had booked 'opel Corsa or similar'. When we declined the Audi, we were told that the only available car was a Fiat panda. They said it was in the same category as the opal Corsa but, having hired many opal Corsa in the past, I can say that a Fiat panda is nothing like the Corsa! It was tiny, underpowered for a family of 4 and of course could only for one suitcase in the boot, making for an uncomfortable journey. Very disappointed. I chose Europcar even though it was more expensive than other companies, thinking we were less likely to be ripped off by added extras, but this has turned out to be the worst car hire experience I've had. " The Renault Megane was in a poor condition. There was so much bodywork marks it took the drop-off lady about 10 minutes to detail all the bumps and scratches and then check them against what I was given. I though did NOT do anything extra but had to stand and wait while others handiwork was reticked off!! There was a lot of paint marks that are easy to remove. But then there were dents and it had clearly been keyed down the offside panels. That sort of damage should have been repaired especially given the position of the islands!! I do not know whether it as me but the stop/start engine was a nightmare and I hate to think how often I had to restart it manually!! There was also a random A that flashed on the dash but no definition of this 'feature' is available online!! Let alone of the dashboard layout!! I must mark down due to the car and its condition!! I also managed about 35mpg in a car claiming nearly twice that!! BTW, my own car delivers what was advertised as has my last 2!! "

However the staff tried to persuade us to take a different car and then told us it would cost approximately 15 euros per day extra ! Only after we made it quite clear we were not happy to pay any extra for something we had already booked and paid for, did they manage to find a car suitable for us. Also they tried to charge us for 15 days, but fortunately we noticed this and corrected their error!! All in all, we feel that Keddy/Europcar were trying to rip us off in every way. " I only gave a rating of 7 for condition of vehicle because it had a large dent on the side, however it did not detract from the overall condition of the car, everything else was 100%. I think this is the only time I have ever booked a car and picked up the model I booked. The actual version of the model was better than expected. " Auto Europe is very easy to use and make an informed decision based on cost, quality and experience of rental providers and the voucher system works well with all renters I have used it for. On the occasions I contacted Auto Europe by telephone they are always customer focused, helpful and are my preferred rental broker if I don't book directly (which I often do!) "
" The vehicle condition could have been better, as is common in Spain, the vehicle has multiple dents, scrapes etc, not all of which were documented. Therefore I had to wait longer to get attention, have the employee agree the missing items to add to damage report before I left the airport. The car interior stank of smoking, which is impossible to eradicate in cars and is actually disgusting for non-smokers to tolerate. I feel the company could do more to enforce no smoking and penalise drivers returning who have flouted this. There wasn't even a no smoking sticker in the car, which is disappointing, unlike other rental companies. Apart from this inconvenience, the car performed well and we had no problems during our rental. "

" I had to negotiate a car because the correct one was not available and was told if i accepted a lesser car i would be contacted when a car in my range was available. i didn't believe i would get a call once i had accepted the lesser car. i did get better car after much discussion. Then i got an email the following morning asking me to return to the airport day to swap the car for one in the category i had booked in. This car developed a fault with the convertible roof within hours of collecting it so i had to return it. The fault meant all my possessions were locked in the boot it was suggested that i caused the fault by putting my beach gear in the boot. I was asked to sign a form that was written in a language i could not read before i could get a car (the original one i had booked). I signed the form under duress and picked up the next car. I was told we might have to wait till the next day to retrieve our possessions from the other car including my wallet and key to the villa i was renting. We headed back to the villa at around 5pm wasting the second day of my holiday only to be called at 5.30pm to be told i could come and collect my possessions from the office at the airport. the hire was nothing but hassle and a waste of my precious holiday time. since returning i have been billed for petrol i guess for the car that developed the fault as i returned the final car full as requested. all in all poor service and i won't be recommending you to anybody or using you myself. "

We only found out after we had paid, as we had to pick up the car from a nearby garage. (2) the upgraded car had a diesel engine, as one of the salesman's selling points was the in Spain, the cost of diesel was 0.25 euros per litre less than petrol. We later discovered that this is untrue; the correct figure is around 0.15 to 0.20 per litre. (3) he told us there were no marks on the car and we had to trust him, as we were to pick up the car from another place without being able to inspect it first. We discovered that the car had a number of marks on it. This wasn't an issue in the end, as I took photos of the marks when we picked up the car and Europcar didn't charge us for any repairs, but it did cause some stress during the trip. European rental car companies need to look at how it works in the US. It took 30 minutes to collect my car and I was only 2nd in the queue ... the process is broken. A competitor will one day offer US service ... and everyone I know will go for it. "

" I spent a while standing around waiting to pick up the car due to the queuing system. The car I was given was damaged. Car return was very congested with tight spaces, making return of vehicle very stressful. "
