However, the young man helping us with the second booking seemed very disinterested and we were provided with a very old car that made quite a concerning noise when braking. " I booked at vehical class deliberately to ensure that I could travel on F class roads. Several weeks after initally confirming the booking Auto Europe advised there had been a mistake and the original car I had booked was unavaiable but they had arranged another through Avis at the same class and at the same cost. (It was a Suzuki Vitara as oppossed to a Dacia Duster). On picking up the vehicle from Avis it had messages all over the vehicle that it could not be taken on F roads. This is completely contrary to why I hired the class of vehicle that I did. "

In addition I was misinformed on the cost of the one additional insurance I did agree to. I took the road assist out which I was told on 3 separate occassions was £2 a day for 7 days and then free after that, so capped at £14 for a 2 week hire. I was charged on return approx. £34. This charge was not seperately detailed and hard to discover. On repeated requests for the breakdown I finally got the detail and complained about the over charging. The manager informed me that I had been incorrectly advised by the counter staff but eventually agreed to reduce the cost to approximately £17 which I accepted but was still more than the £14 I was originally advised. Our Hyundai i10 had 90,000 miles on the clock and a cracked windscreen when we picked it up – which is very dangerous, especially with the high winds in Iceland. Not surprised that this damage wasn't marked on the contract when we picked up the key as no one would accept this! "

" The car we got originally was dirty old and the smell inside was shocking when I drove it a loud banging noise from the front of the car that was only a couple of hundred yards . I went back to the counte to exchange the car they exchanged it for another car a bit better it had 80000 kilometres on the clock we have been to Iceland on numerous occasions this was one of the worst cars I have ever hired driving a few miles out of the airport the pressure tyre warning lights came on I had to pump up the tyres in the garage in Reykjavík i will not be using this hire company again "

Had all tyre replaced after mending puncture because they were substandard, the studs had been taken out of winter tyre making them weak summer tyres. Good points, immediately fixed brake noise in Reykjavik, paid for wheel rim repair and new tyres with no fuss..had taken out full insurance. Polite. helpful getting us to airport quickly. "

" Cheapest price for auto car I could find Car was brand new and cheap to fill. Reliable for our trip but could not drive on some of the roads as they were gravel or had lots of potholes. There was no one at the airport to meet us when we initially arrived and so had to wait around for half an hour or so for someone to turn up with the shuttle. Waited in line at the Procar shop to pick up our car for approx 2 hours. All staff were very determined to upsell on insurance which was very expensive. Not necessary in summer I think. Drop off was fairly efficient as it was 4:30am but we had to wait for the shuttle to fill up with other people before they would take us to the airport. Not great if you're in a rush for a flight. "

" The car we had was a bit long in the tooth for a rental with over 90,000Km on the clock. We were unable to select 2 wheel drive so probably used more petrol than we should have. "
" We waited for ten minutes before anyone turned up to greet us, then had a to wait another ten minutes for the shuttle bus. Car OK, but customer service a bit lazy. They told us to read the small print of the rental contract rather than talk us through it. On returning the car with a full tank, we were told that the fuel gauge was showing not quite full (although it looked the same to us as when we picked it up). We declined their offer to fill it up for us for a 'small' charge (I think they charge 5000 krona plus any additional fuel, which was written in the small print). We backtracked to the nearest fuel station where we put in just over 1 litre of diesel to top the car up to brim full! The fuel gauge did not move. "
