" The pick up details were not outlined on the voucher, but on the main email sent when initially booked and hence we didn't take the email with us and KlassWagen had no signage we walked around for over an hour looking but hence were unable to collect a car. However we are glad we didn't as we discovered that KlassWagen had a very bad reputation for handling customers. By the way we did try contacting them directly when at the airport, but their number on THEIR website was not a valid number we rang it a couple of times. "

" I found Auto Europe to provide a good service but unfortunately my experience was spoiled by the actual car rental company's behaviour. I hope Auto Europe delists them. "
" I have hired cars for years so I am used to the hard sell of additional insurance from the rental company at premium prices and most of their other tricks but what I experienced with Klass Wagen wasn't the normal pressure sales there was a genuine attempt to defraud. The cars they supply are in good condition but are far from new with plenty of scratches. The car I received I was fine with but it did have in excess of a hundred scratches/blemishes ranging in size from barely visible to moderate. They tell you to photo the car before you leave which we did. When we returned the car a guy checks around it comparing it to a piece of paper that can't possibly list every scratch already on this car. He then informed us that there were new scratches and we needed to pay for them. I knew I hadn't scratched the car so asked him to point out the ones he believed were new. He showed me a couple of the smallest and hardest to see marks which were in places most unlikely to be photographed by us. After sifting through many photos and significantly zooming in we proved to him that the scratches were already there. He argued for a bit and then backed down before saying he had found another one. I asked him if this was going to continue until he finally found a scratch I didn't have a photo of? He then tried to close his deal by saying okay I will do you a favour and only charge you for the one scratch. I advised him he wasn't getting a penny from me and he finally backed down. The pressure from the guy was immense and I am in no doubt that this was a deliberate strategy to defraud me and extract money. After checking reviews it seems like a deliberate tactic used frequently. I stood my ground but I suspect many cave in and pay up. "

We have been hiring cars in Portugal for many years using the same credit card. We have NEVER had an issue. It was disgraceful and obviously a tactic to get us to buy their insurance even though we have our own excess policy. When we received the car there were at least 50 plus small scratches on the paintwork even though only 10 were marked on the paperwork. We had to spend 30 mins photographing every single one which is just as well as on return they wanted a photo of one of the scratches even though it was one which was marked on the paperwork. If we hadn't have had the photos they would have ripped us off. "

Their scam is to either cajole you into taking out extra insurance or invent ways to keep their HUGE damages deposit. We experienced the latter. But we're not alone. It feels like a scam to me i called customer service and they basically said you should have read the small print. Then the damage report wasn't accurate and when I asked someone to review it they wouldn't, they said "just take some pictures now, because any scratches on the car when you get back, you will have to prove aren't you", which is surely the point of the damage report. Everyone felt really shady when I spoke to them, so I ended up refusing to take the car off the forecourt! The worst experience I have ever had with a car rental company!! The instructions for the pick up were also not very clear, but this got very overshadowed by the rest of the experience "

I contacted my bank to find that there had been no attempt to take the deposit. There was also plenty of credit on my card. At this point I was complaining loudly and a car was found. Awful experience! I suspect that they ran out of available cars. Pretending to decline a card means that it's the customer fault - not the car hire company. The only saving grace for this firm was the staff who received the car on return. They were pleasant and listened to our pick up concerns. They apologised. I will never use KlassWagon again. "

" All in all the car was full of bumps and scratches and the report didn't cover all the damage so the initial vehicle inspection was really important to do however this had to be done in the darkness. The interior of the car was well maintained and the guy that received the car back knew the car and it's damage really well so the return was no problem. Hardly used the car but a good experience as the return was no problem "

I do not believe that was coincidence and I do not believe these defects ever get repaired so they can 'catch' the next hirer and this is a corrupt business model in operation, especially as the prices they charge are usurious. I have made a complaint to the Portuguese government as it seems they offer cheap prices to attract customers but this practise is their main income. "

I am not sure if it was because of the above but I booked an ev fiat 500 and they gave me a polo which has done 100,000kms and is scratched from all sides. It did drive well though but I wasn't expecting so many scratches and dent. During the drop off, we are greeted with by an extremely polite gentleman who almost makes the whole experience just back to normalit. He gives his I'd FAO-1978100180783 and I can easily say the pick up and drop off van driver along with the guy collecting the car were the best thing. Extremely smooth, quick and efficient. KlaasWagen also keep chasing me to give a good review even with calls afterwards and I don't think I'd have gotten an opportunity to review if I had said anything bad earlier,so be careful of the positive reviews but I have no evidence of that and could be completely wrong. Let me and my wife in a very distressed state. When we delivered the car we were directed to one building then another building and no one wanted to help us. Handing back the car took far too long making u slate for check in. They would not even help take us to the airport even though the shuttle was there, ready and empty. The whole experience was awful from start to finish. We will NEVER EVER rent from Klass Wagen again. "

At the collection office, the "fast checkin" on the app did not work and when with the Klass Wagen rep, their system kept freezing so it took ages to complete all the documentation. The first day of our holiday was not great due to the long process. We landed at Faro at 12:35 and got to our Villa at 17:00! 2.5 of those hours spent at Klass Wagen! "

" Employees were initially pleasant but as soon as it came to discuss toll charges and insurance waivers they were inconsistent with what they were saying, offered "no choice" options, were overbearing and persistent, not taking no for an answer. After declining a product 3 times I had to pretend to check with my travel buddy because they weren't listening to me. They also made threats about the insurance costs for damage and were doing it to all customers, as we were talking amongst ourselves because the service was so poor. I had no confidence in the process at all and that's not what I had paid for. I sent Emilie the pages of charges for the various items of damage.......they were extortionate in proportion to what the damage would actually cost to repair. Most renters allow minor damage up to the size of a small coin but this company charge for even the most minor stone chip for example. A good rental price and a nice car but not worth the risk of renting due to the charges for damage. Your service is superb but I would respectfully advise taking them of your list of rental companies. "

This time was not and was very costly and an experience that I would never what to experience again. You should also not that I hire cars in Faro twice a year . Note my annual insurance on a peugeot 308sw 1.6 diesel cost me €370.00 for a years cover both me and my wife . Nobody can tell me what an F 3 error is or what caused it. The reason that I scored them so low is because of the additional cost and because the car had a badly worn front passenger side front tyre. The car had 14,000 kilometers on it the tyer should not have been dangerously worn. The other 3 tyres were as one expect on a car with 14,000 kilometers. The last problem was that the petrol gauge would ont register a full tank. I hade to bring them to a petrol station to prove that the tank was full . the gauge was showing threequarters full?!!! "

" I write to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service my wife and I received from Klass Wagen at Faro airport on 11 April 2024. Let me say at the outset that I am 77 years of age, a retired senior police officer and have experience of hiring cars in different parts of the world over many years. I am not easily flummoxed, but the rental agent salesman at Klass Wagen, Ahmed Khan, succeeded where others had tried and failed. After travelling since dawn we were tired and hot on arrival at Faro airport and were left waiting for over half an hour for a shuttle bus to Klass Wagen's premises miles away. I was herded into their dark office where a number of staff were dealing with customers at different desks. Our 'English Speaker' Mr Khan immediately put me under pressure to sign for their comprehensive insurance. I told him we had already taken out separate vehicle excess insurance in England and didn't need anything further. He told me their vehicles weren't insured, and actually showed me some small print on a form which said so. I told him that could not be right. He would not be deterred and bombarded me with various jottings of extras and costs and risks if I did not accept their terms. After forty minutes he had confused me so much, it had become unpleasant and I was conscious we had a long journey ahead so, against my better judgment I signed his tablet (with my finger!) several times. I told him we were spending four days, Thursday to Sunday, across the border in Spain, for which he wanted to charge me 15 euro per day. I showed him my copy of Auto Europe's reservation which stated 12.4 euro, which he begrudgingly accepted. I confirmed with him that I would thus be charged about 50 euro for the four days. I was taken aback with the further charge of being old. Four euros a day for being over 70 years of age, so another 40 euro to be added to the rapidly escalating total. I was charged a deposit of 150 euro for Via Verde tolls, which I understand. What I don't understand is why I was also charged a further 50 euro for something or other for which I would like an explanation please. The whole experience of picking up the hire car was so bad that we couldn't wait to get away and continue our journey into Spain. Some time later my phone pinged and when I was able to check it I saw an email contract from Klass Wagen, which was 12 full pages of close-typed print, detailing all the above charges, terms and conditions, with my fingernail signature appearing several times. Additionally, there had been a warning before I drove away that if the vehicle was returned in anything other than the condition I had collected it, ie, pristine, there would be a charge of 20 euro for cleaning it, rising to 50 euro if there was a muddy footprint in it! I couldn't believe what I was hearing and reading, nor could I believe I had foolishly signed all this without studying 'the small print that nobody reads', as Mr Khan put it. The stress of paying 302 euro for insurance I probably didn't need, together with being charged 124 euro as though I had spent 10 days in Spain, plus 40 euro for being over 70 and a mystery charge of 50 euro, marred what was supposed to have been a restful holiday. Throughout the 10 days I was conscious that the car was getting dirty and I was desperate to avoid any damage, however minor, that Klass Wagen could charge me for. Before we returned to their premises I did a Google search to find an automated car wash and paid 10 euro to have it washed. Such was my state of anxiety that we also valeted the inside ourselves, though clean, something we have NEVER had to do with a hire car. Ridiculous! On returning the car I asked the receiving agent, Akshay Sharma, why I had been charged 124 euro for four days in Spain. He shrugged, I asked to speak with the manager and he gestured to the office. I there spoke with Daniel, a manager, who informed me that Klass Wagen had no way of confirming how long their vehicles may be across the border and so charges the cross-border levy for the whole hire period. So much for trusting the hirer to be telling the truth! None of this implies criticism of Auto Europe directly, but there are two points I think you should make clearer in your documentation. Under your 'Additional Fees' section you highlight a Young Driver Surcharge of 4 euro a day, but I could find no reference to what Klass Wagen refer to as a Senior Driver Fee of 4 euro a day. Additionally, it should be emphasised that the Cross Border Fee of 12.40 (now 15) euro will be charged for the whole hire period, up to 150 euro, regardless of how many days are spent across a border. As you will by now have gathered, I have no intention of ever using Klass Wagen again and, judging by some of the reviews I have read about the company, neither will other customers who have had similar experiences to ours. I have not yet put a review of Auto Europe and Klass Wagen in the public domain. I await with interest your reply to my comments and questions with any explanation you may care to give. "

The extra insurance I had to pay was £161.00. I feel this was a scam after paying yourselves £40 for full cover insurance which I believed would have been all the insurance that I needed. Definitely not happy and unless this is resolved in my favour I will definitely not be recommending you to friends and family and I wouldn't use you again. "

The correct initials were not sufficient and they blamed it on AutoEurope, saying that this is stated in your terms and conditions. I cannot find reference to this in your terms & conditions. Klasswagen then tried to sell me a separate, direct rental deal for the same car for a separate payment to them of €120 plus a security deposit of €150. I refused as I saw this as a scam. When I challenged this and pointed out that my contract says my credit card would be used to cover excess they got very defensive and said I didn't understand. When I refused to leave till I got a car or a refund they threatened me with the police when I said get the police the backed down and claimed they had processed a refund to autoeurope and couldn't now give me a car I was therefore forced to get a taxi to my accommodation as autoeurope were not answering my call "

Yes, it's in the T&Cs but when you're busy and trying to organise loads of stuff for your holiday then things get overlooked. Feel that companies could be a little pragmatic and accommodating about such things - to say that AutoEurope insists on the use of Visa/Mastercard at time of pick-up when you accept AmEx for a car hire payment is a nonsense. Also, when I present the car hire firm with both evidence of pre-purchased excess insurance and that the necessary funds are available on a debit card, I feel that the premise for the security block is somewhat negated and to have to make an additional payment far in excess of the original booking is wholly disproportionate. "

" The Klass Wagen representative was rude, aggressive, extremely manipulative and tried to take advantage of the fact we were two young girls hiring a car. He tried to pressure us into getting the extraordinarily expensive Klass Wagen insurance as the insurance that I had purchased through auto europe apparently did not cover small dings etc (which we would be liable for). I explained that it was okay as we have third party insurance for this. He proceeded to get very angry, intimidating and was pushing a card machine at me in an aggressive manner - he tried everything he could to try and distress and confuse me into purchasing their insurance, repeatedly mentioning police reports, and trying to claim that my third party insurance wasn't valid. He got even more angry when I became distressed and phoned my lawyer for advice. He walked away and we could over hear him going through the same process of hassling another customer trying to make him pay for the extra insurance. Extremely unprofessional and threatening environment was made by this individual which I assume is due to the company offering commission for up-selling to their insurance. Avoid this company at all costs - it simple isn't worth it - they are running a sophisticated scheme to take as much money from customers as possible. Regardless of this, the car they provided only had 1/4 of a tank of petrol despite us being told it would have a half tank, and the car itself was in terrible condition - absolutely covered in dents and scratches. Save yourself the hassle and expense and go with a different company. "

" Extra insurance option I took was worthless as did not cover the full excess. I ended up having to take further insurance from Klass Wagen for €150. Poor pick up details supplied on voucher. Staff member I called was unable to tell me where to find the shuttle service. "

" Disgusting people at Klasswagon. Poor transfer only option was for 10 year old on lap with it being late 30 degrees. Long wait for bus, followed by 45 minutes more in the blazing heat at the depot. Eventually through and then forced sell of lots of things, made the whole thing very intimidating and felt taken advantage of. Tried to give me a much smaller car than paid for. Got a T Roc eventually (made me and my kids wait longer) which was not big enough to carry luggage. Kids squashed but left after 2 hours of lost holiday by rude, unacceptable people. They blamed things on your company and then said any disagreement I had to take up with you both. You are in business together (broker and provider) yet the customer is the go between according to them. Ruined my holiday, made my partner and kids cry and are not very nice people at all. Poor service (bus and deport). My advice is don't do business ever with these people. I was not alone in these views, others there felt the same. "

" DO NOT USE KLASS WAGEN. EVER. As always, I rented a car through AutoEurope with full cover for my own protection. But on collection of the car I was informed that my Credit Card was not suitable and was coerced into also purchasing their 'no risk warranty' - which was more expensive than the original hire. The car came with a device for paying to use the motorway, which I used twice (around €5 each time) - yet they invoiced me for almost €70. If Klass Wagen are your only option, I would recommend a taxi. "

" 1. The Shuttle bus pick up was not signposted at the airport 2. We could not reach the contact number to get help - it was fortunate we spotted a shuttle bus and managed to make our way over. 3. The car collection process took over an hour after the shuttle bus arrived. (Kids and Partner had to sit outside on plastic chairs in the heat. 4. Once at the desk there was some severe pressure selling by the consultants to buy further insurance - quoted a further £200 on top of the £150 i had already paid to Auto Europe to remove the threat of them keeping my 2600 Euro reserve on the credit card. I resisted and took my chances as I am very careful. 5. Car was in good condition 6. Return process uneventful 7. No Damage to the car and I have not lost my 2600euro reserved against my Card 8. Ultimately worked out okay but the initial contact was not pleasant "

" Auto Europe website was ok, though it was a bit unclear where to pick up the car from, as there was no instructions about the dealer being outside of the airport and me needed to wait for a service of theirs to pick me up. I had to call them up on my phone to get instructions about this. Next time it might be better to just get one of the dealers at the airport directly. "
" I was not accepted my credit card because it was not physical. In the terms and conditions it does not state that the card needs to be physical, just that the customer must know the PIN number. The credit card numbers can be introduced in the machine when the magnetic band is not working, so this would have been a possibility. I explained this to the counter staff - he refused. The only solution that was provided (besides not renting the car, which was not an option for me given the time), was to pay the full insurance which I didn't need to as I was already fully covered by my card. I felt extorted to get the full insurance from the company, when there was no need. "

" The first vehichle they gave us has tape holding the front windscreen in - we declined the car, the next had many bumps / knocks and collected a 10 pm in a very dark yard where it is not possible to inspect the vehicle properly. At drop off they advised that everything was fine - full to full and no more damage, I asked for a reciept and confirmation of the refunds, it will be on you email in 1 hour ... well thats after I have left and not sure its arrived - nervously watching my credit card for the refund ! " Pick up from and drop off to the airport was a mess. Only using one small van (7seats) for dozens of passengers is a joke! This often meant groups getting split up which can and does cause distress. In my group of 4 I was taken first to the facility to start the paperwork and was promised that my girlfriend and 2 sisters would be brought in the next shuttle (as families that have been separated are given priority). After 3 shuttles back and forth I was advised that the driver was too busy and he wasn't sure when he would have space to bring them to the facility so I would have to drive to the airport and pick them up myself. This was over a hour after I was first picked up and was at midnight. Driver (who I appreciate is rushed off his feet) I feel tries to do what he thinks is "right" but quite frankly is out of his depth and only adds to the shambles of the process. My group had to wait well over 30 minutes after returning the car to then get in the van to the airport. We were not the only ones. When I asked if another member of staff can use the second van to shuttle people to the airport this was shut down because "sorry people are away for lunch and we don't have the staff" despite multiple staff members (not the gentlemen washing the cars) walking around aimlessly chatting or sitting around on their phones doing nothing as there were no customers picking up cars at that point, only dropping off. The staff at the facility will try to oversell and take advantage by pushing additional cover, add ons etc and use a combination of fear tactics and fast talking to intimidate and pressure people into making decisions. "

" As mentioned above, to my knowledge I was paying a price to rent a car. This was not the case at the Klass Wagen counter where I was told that that price was a reservation fee and I ended up having to pay more than double the price just to secure the car. The Auto Europe call centre staff were pleasant on the phone and on email. However, I have had no communication yet from Auto Europe regarding the situation and any possible resolution about it.. "
" Hi. I rented a car from Klaas Wagen through Auto Europe with the understanding that what I was paying for was the fee of the car rental. The Klaas Wagen rep told me it was a reservation fee and did not cover the car rental. I arrived in Lisbon on the night of 29th October 2023 and upon arriving at Klaas Wagen rental company at around 10:30pm I was informed by the Klass Wagen rep by the name of Ruben Correia that the Auto Europe car rental voucher was a reservation fee and did not constitute a hire agreement or cover the costs of the car rental. He gave me two options. Option 1 : I had to pay €100 rental fee for the car hire directly to them. Paying this I would have a €2400.00 excess block on my credit card. Option 2: if I paid an additional €100 they would waive the excess with full cover. I questioned him about this and showed him the Auto Europe voucher printout and that I had already paid for the car hire but he was adamant and wouldn't accept it as a rental agreement and that I had to pay an additional €100 to rent the car, this was non negotiable.. As a result of this I also opted to pay the excess waiver of an additional €100 too as I did not want to take any risks with damage and my trust in Auto Europe had been eroded as I was not expecting this at the Klaas Wagen rental counter. I notified Auto Europe on phone and in writing the following day as well as Klaas Wagen. I was informed by Auto Europe correspondence to fill out this form once the rental was completed. Can you give me some clarity on this please as I feel like I have been horribly misled either by Auto Europe or Klaas Wagen. Regards Andrew "

Then the staff member spent ages using rather hard-sell tactics to try and scare me into buying additional insurance coverage that I did not need or want. It took 3:25 to get the hire car! "
