I was told I would have to take out another agreement and had to pay for a larger car . So I lost my initial hire payment. When I rang you to say I was stranded for the ridiculous reason that they would not accept a credit card with initials your operative said 'Oh yes, that's right'. There is nothing he could do. The best offer he made was to cancel the reservation. Quite atrocious service. He left me stranded and forced to accept Autovia's only offer of paying and additional 216 euros. If you knew that this was what Autovia and other Italian rentals do then you should warn your customers so this does not happen to them. You did not and for that you are culpable. I shall be making a formal complaint and if you do not refund the additional payment I shall take the matter further to the BVRLA. "

I have rented dozens of vehicles in Italy over the past 20 years and have never had to present an IDL. I rented in Sicily in April 2023 and was not asked for one. " I have rented from Sicily by car and always received a nice car. This time I don't know what happened. The car was dirty and had clearly never been cleaned. It had numerous bumps and scratches all over, not in one place but from what was obviously any number of dings. The steering wheel was worn through at the top, there was a warning light of some sort, which I only discovered at the end was tyre pressure, but when I pointed it to the man who received the car, he said don't worry it is just the sensor. Well, I had worried!! For two weeks, I just couldn't do anything about it!! There was a fairly significant rattle when the heater was on as well. On checking in the lady had offered me two different Fiats, I laughed and said that I didn't know, and I had no experience of either so couldn't say, and left it up to her to choose, at which point she put those keys back and handed me the key to the car that I ended up with, which wasn't a Fiat but something else entirely (I cant remember the make} "

I paid over £500 pounds for a car that was a heap of junk and then to cap it all I got stung for another €140 for an additional driver when I had specifically selected free additional driver when booking and chosen from the list presented. I contacted autoeurope by email and DM on twitter and was basically told tough and to ring, unfortunately this was not practical for me as I was in Italy. I still don't understand why you couldn't deal with my query by email. "

" As I require an estate car to allow space for a folded wheelchair for a disabled child it would be a useful (and I feel reasonable) adjustment if the rental codes could be shown on the website to ensure that "or equivalent" provides certainty that the same size vehicle will be supplied. "
" The sheet provided showed no damage to the car. However, this was far from the truth. The car had been parked reversed into long grass. This hid the scratches at the rear. There was also other minor bodywork damage that had not been marked. Most significantly there was a large crack in the windscreen, running diagonally at the top corner on the passenger side. The counter staff tried to tell me that it was still safe to drive and that the previous customer had been driving the car for two months without problems. This shows that they had knowledge of the problem but had neither marked it on the sheet nor taken any steps to have the significant damage repaired before passing the car to me. Having checked with a local contact, it was determined that it is an offence to drive a car with a damaged windscreen. The Maggiore staff verbally offered to pay any such fine, an acknowledgement of the legal ramifications of the condition of the vehicle. I needed an estate car to ensure sufficient space for my disabled son's wheelchair in addition to our luggage. The staff had no replacement vehicle available. After a call to Auto-Europe and protracted discussion with Maggiore they eventually borrowed another estate car from Avis. This was a downgrade as the class I had booked was an automatic but the provided vehicle was manual (and a Fiat Tipo in place of the originally supplied Mercedes Benz). No offer of any refund was made but with a tired and increasingly hot family to deal with I was in no mood to continue discussions at that time. Drop-off at the end was efficient. In summary, I found the pickup process difficult and stressful. I am incredibly disappointed in Maggiore. The staff attempted to provide me with a car that it was neither safe nor legal to drive, had attempted to pass it off as in perfect condition on the sheet originally provided and had possibly even attempted to conceal some of the bodywork damage by parking the car in longer grass. I would urge Auto-Europe to seriously consider their relationship with Maggiore at Lamezia Terme. "

Deals are good; cars are satisfactory though we generally go low budget cars but then we only need a run about. "

" Because our flight was early morning we had to leave the car back at 6 am. We looked after the car very carefully and returned it full of petrol, in the same condition we got it and posted the keys through the box on door as requested. A few hours later, while sitting in Milan Airport, I received a message to say that the car had damage on one of the wheel trims and this would cost me 139euro. They provided photos. We also had taken photos of the car and individual photos of all wheels. Our photos do not show any damage. I have spent a lot of time contacting them and provided them with our photos. The damage must have been done after we left the car. Their photos are not taken in the same place as I left it!! I am awaiting their response. "
