" I was scammed Nowhere does it state, either on your website or AvantCars website, confirmation email or notifications, that they do NOT accept AMEX. The staff told me they don't take Amex in this particular office(....?) - my only credit card, only for car rentals - and we can't pay by debit cards unless we pay another EUR56.00 for an all inclusive insurance. EUR28 per day, when I have my own extra excess cover and booked yours too, is overly onerous. He said it was the only way to secure the car and booking. I paid, and he could suddenly take BOTH a payment And an authorisation on my Debit card, proving it worked perfectly fine. Scam. Not happy at all. "

I showed him the video that I had taken on pick up and it showed the scratch and other existing damages in the car. He then backed down but they are just chancers trying to get more money out of customers - a bad experience "

" I didn't like the hard sell of extra insurance in the office which was unneccesary. The guys at the car lot were very good though. "

" When we collected the car, the person dealing with us tried to sell us additional expensive insurance telling us that, despite the fact I had already paid for additional insurance when I booked the car, that it was not effective and outlining potential problems if the car was damaged. She also said she was upgrading our vehicle and when we got to the car lot we were given a large Ford rather than the compact vehicle we had booked. We would have preferred the compact vehicle. "

" Very pleased had an almost brand new VW T -Cross that had done just under 3000 miles so it was immaculate inside and out other than deep scratch on one wing mirror by previous customer. Car was pleasure to drive very smooth and quiet and didn't feel underpowered despite only have a very tiny 1litre turbo charged petrol engine. Also well equipped with wireless air CarPlay which was also very convenient for using google maps sat nav for my phone. Pick up was very convenient and easy as was the drop off which was super quick! There was a person wanting who checked car over striaght away got me to sign paperwork and refunded the deposit immediately. Highly recommend "

" The pick-up process was very easy and the car was as expected. The price was very reasonable, however it does seem that €59 is excessive for a border fee. When we arrived to return the car at 3pm on a weekday, the door was locked and no one was in the office. We waited at least 15 mins, but no one arrived, so we had to resort to placing the keys in the after hours box though we would've liked to complete in person. Overall though, the service was good and we would rent with them again. "

" Process with AutoEurope was smooth, vehicles competitively priced. They did answer a query I had via email in an acceptable time-frame. Could do with better integration with the car hire firms to ensure all details are provided and adhered to. "

" The car was in good condition and clean. That is the only positive thing I can say here. First of all, the pick-up location is not the same as indicated on the booking confirmation. There it states the address of a hotel, the actual pick-up address is not written anywhere and we had to ask people at different car rentals where to go, which nicely delayed us. Then they took a deposit of 1000 euro and told us that we will get the money back within 3 days. We rented the car on December 21st and still didn't get the deposit back. When we called they just told us that there is nothing they can do about it. We didn't get any notification either, they just kept the deposit without justification. We will try to call again, but it looks like we have no choice but to call the police as we need the money. Don't rent here. "

" We were told we would receive an emailed copy of damages with pictures from the representative when we picked up the car that would be immediately ready for our review. We did not receive that email until we dropped off the car 2 weeks later. Then, a few minutes later, we received another email with an additional picture stating we had damaged the bumper, which we had not. They charged us $474 USD for it! We reached out to the representative 4 times without any response back. Terrible service and fraudulent activity. I reported this to my credit card company. Also, to top it all off, they said the car was full when we picked it up only to have the gas meter click down immediately after we drove off. I doubt I will ever use this company again! "

" The E class was a nice car. BUT we hated the brake assist function. If you aren't used to it, then it is frightening. We had to deselect this function EVERY time we started the engine. Rubbish!! It gave up a lot of angst. At ne point we tried to call avant car and there was no reply. It was at night on the motorway. I have sent emails to them that explain what happened. The guys at avant car are very nice generally and I have used them before. EW "

" Car had close to 30000 km and various bits of damage when I picked it up, which I took photos of. I caused no other damage. Dropped the car of almost 2 hours befor my return flight, early in the morning. The man at the Europcar desk had no customers waiting and could have easily checked out car while I was there. Instead, refused to do so, something I am always wary of. The following day, sent me photo of scratches on left hand bumper, implying that I may have caused those, but they were already there. Pointed that out to them by email reply, have heard (so far) nothing further. "

" Excellent and pain free, speedy experience. On arrival, the paperwork was ready in 3 minutes. I was then taken to the car, which was right in front of the office (I am used to picking up my rentals from the garage) where the visual check was completed. The whole process was finished in 10 minutes. The next day I discovered the water pump did not work and advised the renter. They immediately offered a replacement vehicle and the same day I went to the airport to collect it. Return was quick as well. Parking, visual check and completion in 5 minutes. Will definitely use them again. "

" I can't say more that 6 yet, until I know the outcome of the damage. They should have correct records, if not what not? Did they previously miss it too or are they pulling a fast one and charging multiple clients a fee as this was a difficult dent to spot. "

" Pick up was fine. Helpful and efficient, no hard sell on extras, offered but backed off when declined. Car had several marks and dents. One on the wheel hub was marked down on the wrong wheel. We didn't notice until dropped off and checked by Agio staff. He also noted a dent to the seal line below the drivers door, which was not marked on the sheet at all. I confirmed that we had not had any accidents or struck anything. The dirt in this area was consistent with the rest of the car and he stated he believed me. However, the car would be checked later and matched to their paperwork and I may be charged. As they have charged £1,000 to my credit card, they could easily claim this as my fault. We didn't notice this dent on pick up , as we did not check the seal lines. Very unusual place to get a dent. I'm annoyed and feel I will fight this if they do try and charge me for this, as I know for definite that we didn't hit anything. They are correctly charging me 15 euros for local taxes and a further 35 euros for cross border insurance. As after collecting the car we decided to cross the borders into Italy and Austria, so I phoned to add this option on. "

Major issue was that we had a 15Euro charge applied by AGIO after we returned the car. No reason given, no evidence, no mandate. Retrieved our money via VISA but based on that I would not rent from here again nor could I recommend to anyone else. "

" After paying £57.10 for everything up front (or so i thought) on arrival there were further charges. €15 for using motorway, approx. €7.50 for petrol and because we needed to leave a credit card my brother had to become a named driver as he had a credit card which i believe we were charged €30 for. All these should have been made more clear before purchasing through yourselves. I have tried calling but your offices are closed. I would like a refund for the named 2nd driver (€30) at the very least as he didn't drive and i felt pressured into paying it because it was either lose £57.10 and find another company or pay an extra £55.00 to ensure we had a car. Obviously we are willing to pay for petrol and although i think we should have been made aware about the motorway charge we are willing to pay that. I am not happy to pay for a second named driver just so that we can leave a credit card! "

I had a front puncture and had it changed at a dealer, got to handover and told them and because it was not the same make, apparently the law, I was charged three times the amount of the better make of tyre that had been installed. All rep kept saying was you should have phoned in. Also supplementary payments on receipt of car , for vignette and going out of Slovenia borders. Rented many a car from Ljubiana airport and there had not been any supplementary payments . People checking in when I was returning the vehicle were also complaining about the hidden extras Especially one that had a hire of over 2000 euro "

" The vehicle wasn't in the best of condition, the wheels needed balancing and there was plastic trim missing which made it look shabby. I initially made the booking as enterprise were not open at the time my flight got in and I opted for alamo as I thought they did not require a credit card deposit, however they did. After paying the increased insurance and deposit I do not think this was a cost effective car hire. I'm not even entirely sure I received all of my deposit back and would appreciate someone looking into this??? The staff at collection and drop off were very nice but clearly when a flight comes in they would benefit from having more than one member of staff having to deal with everything. "

" There was minor damage to the wheel trim upon return. Sur Price told me they would send me photos of the damage and a notification of charges; nothing arrived. I only found out how much they had charged me (£360 for some scratches to a wheel trim) when I was forced to contact my credit card company. DO NOT USE THE SMALL COMPANIES: THE GUY PRETTY MUCH ADMITTED THAT BECAUSE THE CAR HIRE PRICES ARE LOW, THEY HAVE TO STIFF YOU EVERYTHING ELSE. "

" Pick up and car were good. The drop off was was not. Despite the voucher stating 'Open Mondays-Sundays all day' and dropping the car off before 2200 nobody was there. The keys. wallet and car park ticket were put in the drop off box. There was no damage to the car and it had a full tank of petrol yet on returning home I find Surprise have taken £62.29 from my credit car and have had no explanation of why. Surprise have my email and I would expect an email from them explaining why they thought I owed them some money. I would also expected them to request payment and only take payment from my credit card if they proved their claim was valid and I refused to pay. They may have a valid reason but as they have not informed me I think their action is high hand and dishonest. "

" When I called to complain the person who took the call said they were correct to charge an out of hours fee and didn't know what a vignette is. "

" On collection I was charged 36 euros for a "vignette" despite my documents stating that there was nothing to pay locally. I was also charged £25 out of hours fee although my collection time was 22:00. It clearly states on my rental voucher that any pre booked collections between 22;00 and 08:00 will already be included in the price. Despite the claim that their office is open 24/7, there was nobody in the office at 20:30. I therefore had to leave the car unchecked and I am very anxious that I will be charged for damage that isn't there. Very poor service all round. "

" Our flight from Stansted arrived very late due to weather conditions over Europe all the hire car desks had stayed open with the exception of the Advant desks the staff having all gone home. The only option was to hire a taxi at cost of 50 euro's, the following day I contacted Advantcar and to be fair they did deliver the car but what about the 50 euro's that fell on deaf ears, I'm still waiting !!!! " I am extremely disappointed with my Auto Europe experience. I booked with Auto Europe as it offered a competitive rate and a pick up 0.4 km from my hotel. However, on receiving my Auto Europe voucher the pick up address was: LJUBLJANA CITY OFFICE DOLENJSKA CESTA 244? Thus, we took a taxi to this address, which cost us 26 Euros and when we got there the office was closed - lukily, someone was still at the office and saw us outside. Had this person not seen us, we would have had to take another taxi back to the city and not got the car that we needed for that evening. This is a serious failing on the part of Auto Europe and I look forward to hearing from you regrading how you will compensate us for the taxi and inconvenience. Regards Jon "

It felt like they were trying to charge extra under false pretences, but I couldn't be sure. Might be something to follow up if other customers say the same.
