" We collected in Rome at the Termini Railway Station. It was easy to find and a short queue. The staff were efficient and helpful. They reminded us to take a video of car and patient about us pointing out any damage. The car was in good condition and we had no problems with it. We dropped the car off at Naples Airport. The man was careful to inspect any damage, so it was important to show the video of when it had been collected. There were no problems once video was shown. We also used Locauto in June 2024 in Florence. They are a reputable and honest company in our opinion and will not not try to force extra costs onto you. We always take full insurance out with Autoeurope who have been excellent and we have used in many countries including Sicily and Costa Rica. In Florence there as a long wait and queue to collect car, they needed more staff. It was not easy to find office at the edge of airport area. Drop off was very quick and easy. In Sicily we used Hertz who were good but a 2 hour wait at airport to collect, again they need more staff. It was lunch time so less staff but lots of customers. Overall very happy thanks. I was advised by AE not to be late to collect car which is good advice. "

" Didn't have the vehicle I'd reserved, VW T-Roc. Just said it's not available, no apology. Ended up with a VW Golf. Bombarded with demands to pay more money at check in desk for services I'd already paid for. Put the fear of god into me that if the car is chipped by a tiny stone or the alloy scuffed you will be liable up to a €900 repair bill. I never gave them a penny extra. On driving out of Catania airport onto the A19 which is a straight 96 mile road to Cefalu I noticed a warning light, "Car needs 1 litre of oil". On arrival in Cefalu I contacted Locauto. They said I can do a 2 hour round trip to Palermo airport to change the vehicle or buy 1 litre of oil for the car and the amount will be refunded on check out. Our Italian villa host helped to buy the correct oil after Locauto had told me the WRONG type of oil to use for THEIR own vehicle. On arrival at Catania airport the car passed the military style bump and scratch test. On presenting the oil receipt to the desk, this was completely alien to the staff and they refused to give me a €16 refund even though I presented the email off THEM saying they would. I was now in a situation accused of trying to defraud this company of €16 due to their initial failure to put oil in their own car. I double checked the car was signed off as returned without any damage, nothing else to pay and left the building. Awful experience. "

Unfortunately, I didn't check until we were on our journey. Our drop off was Milan airport so I went to the Locauto desk there and showed them a photo of petrol gauge. They said they would put it on file for when I returned vehicle. I asked should I return car full abs was advised yes. Upon drop off the attendant didn't know anything about it abd said I would have to go inside to the desk. I ade a particular journey earlier in my rental to avoid wasting time before my flight. I didn't have time to sort it out so ended up paying extra to fill tank. "

" Booking through Auto Europe, I knew what I had included in my car package and what the cost would be upfront. I opted to pay for car breakdown as an optional extra once at the car pick up (but aware this was an additional cost). Generally a good prompt service, transparent, helpful staff. Just car was a little grubby inside. "

He didn't try to upsell anything insurance etc, he spoke amazing English and took us around the car documenting all defects perfectly. He also showed us the basic features of the car which often they do not so. Whilst I appreciate as the renter it is your responsibility to figure these items o it, but they are familiar with all the vehicles so it is appreciated when they take a few minutes to give you a basic rundown. He explained clearly how to return to bring the car back (which at Verona station involves going down the taxi lane). One of the best car rental experiences we have had. Would 100% rent with Locauto again and this is a very good location. I overheard is colleague helping another customer and ethos seemed to be the same. Very impressed. "

On arrival there was a queue, about 15 mins however, the staff member was very polite, calm and helpful. On pick up I had I was shown the car, it was dark, a very bright LED light was used, quick and simple. " The collection was fine and the car was fine until the last day when I had a puncture. I changed the wheel for the temporary wheel but found that the tyre that had the puncture was virtually bald! When I returned the car on the last day I pointed out to the rep that the tyre was bald and probably illegal and his only comment was"its the same as the other front tyre so must be ok", and promptly charged me E230.00 for a new tyre! The car should not of been on the road with tyres in that condition and to charge me for a new tyre is outrageous! I now have to claim on my insurance for this but it should not of happened in the first place. Locauto should not rent out dangerous cars and then screw customers for silly amounts of money to cover their errors! I would appreciate if you would take this up with them as you would have more clout than I do, as in all probability they would not even answer any complaint I make let alone refund the amount of Euros 230.00 they have taken from my credit card! " NASTY, FRAUDULENT, EXTORTIONISTS. The worst company I have ever dealt with. They are operating a scam where they trick you into leaving the car at return saying they will have any minor cosmetic damage assessed 'professionally' and you are 'free to go'. Their scam is to first establish what your maximum damage excess is. Then they get their complicit 'assessor' to make sure it is 'assessed' grossly over this excess so that they can extort the maximum out of you. They then add an extra €100 on top as a 'fee'. There is zero communication but 28 days later (and with the car having done a huge amount of extra kilometres), they demand unbelievable exorbitant payment for minor cosmetic damage costs that are completely unjustified. They give you only a few days notice to pay and start to threaten you. If you try to respond with reason and try to have a dialogue, they then simply ignore what you say and continue harassing you. They ignore everything (including photographs and other evidence). They just do what they want and use intimidating tactics against you. It is impossible to contact them if they decide to ignore you. No phone number! No email address! You can only use their online internal system in which they suddenly ignore you and do not respond to your communication, even after multiple requests for a response. It is now almost 3 months since the car was returned and still there is no conclusion. It is quite unbelievable that this company is even allowed to exist, but clearly in Italy it can and does. "

" Previously for a number of years Auto Europe had a special arrangement with Locauto which included an additional driver. This has now been withdrawn so my cost each trip has gone up by nearly 100 euros. Every holiday now I will shop around to see if I can get a better deal. Previously I used Auto Europe and Locauto every month for 2 week trips. "

First, the second driver is now not included, starting a couple of months ago, which adds nearly 100 euros to each trip. Second, they charge 100 euros for a minor scrape, double if there are two scrapes a tiny way apart. They use cars with aluminium wheels and charge if there is even a tiny mark on a wheel. Also, I now spend 15 minutes at reception turning down their ' special offers'. This time they wanted me to take a car only half full of fuel, then return it empty, then pay them 50 euros for the fuel. No! Also they now try to sell me breakdown insurance, surely that should be included. "

WHen the shift changed the new assistant immediately found a car albeit in a higher category which was on offer providing we took the fuel deal. The first assistant clearly could not be bothered as she simply offered the higher category car at a surcharge with no mention of the option we were subsequently offered. Then we were charged for the additional driver despite having purposely purchased it at the time of booking as part of the package, and shown the assistant the evidence. He insisted that that offer had expired before we had booked the car, and that we had to seek reimbursement from Auto Europe for the additional charges. We were by far the fastest picking our car up, in and out whilst others at the many Hire company's there were still waiting. We got a great deal on what we thought was an Audi A4, but instead we got a brand new Mercedes, thank you very much. My only disappointment was on returning the car, they found some damage to a tyre wall, and I got a bill for 230EU, but I guess that's a standard thing with Hire rentals. Would recommend Locauto Ciampino for sure. "

" On arrival to collect the car we were shocked at the extremely high prices of the insurance to waiver the excess. Previous car hire firms we've used have not been priced so highly. Drop off was quite stressful as so many people dropping off at same time. Have since been charged extra for something we have no idea about and office opening hours are only open 9-1 weekdays. The car was acceptable but the high extra insurance meant we didn't take it out which caused some anxiety during the holiday ensuring we had no bumps or scrapes. The car did on frequent occasions have a fan come on after the engine was turned off which was worrying but when I rang the language barrier meant that the lady in the office didn't really understand what I was saying. Thankfully the car kept going! "

We looked after the car very carefully and returned it full of petrol, in the same condition we got it and posted the keys through the box on door as requested. A few hours later, while sitting in Milan Airport, I received a message to say that the car had damage on one of the wheel trims and this would cost me 139euro. They provided photos. We also had taken photos of the car and individual photos of all wheels. Our photos do not show any damage. I have spent a lot of time contacting them and provided them with our photos. The damage must have been done after we left the car. Their photos are not taken in the same place as I left it!! I am awaiting their response. "

" No issue with Locauto's process, staff attitude, etc or the car but drop off was an absolute nightmare as Locauto had changed, during my 8 days rental, the drop off location without telling me (or the other irate drivers trying to find the new drop off point). The usual (I am a regular customer at Brindisi) car pick up and return place at Brindisi is very congested at the best of times but with Avis/Budget now where Locauto used to be and no way to turn round it was horrible for everyone who had driven into it as they tried to get out. It took me 45 minutes to negotiate all the other cars doing the same so nerves were very frayed and planes nearly missed. Locauto had no one placed to stop cars going into the old location and no-one advertising the new location. It was an absolute farce. Please feed this feedback to them. I am normally quite a fan of Locauto but this was a very bad end to car hire. "

" Hi, the pick up and condition of the car were great as it was relatively quick and the car was almost brand new with only 700km on the clock. However, when we dropped the car off we were told the fuel tank wasn't full - we had just 5 mins ago filled it up at a nearby petrol station so if it wasn't full it can't have been far off so that was inconvienient going to fill it up again. Also we were charged 40 euros for a scratched hub cab, and 165 euros for a scratched tyre. Both of those amounts seems excessive and we feel this was only charged because the car was new and you'd take advantage of the first few people who rent it. The staff were unable to provide a receipt for that until we hung around and insisted. Are you able to let us know if this is refundable via the super cover? "

" They use an iPad for you to sign the rental agreement. In bright sunshine this is difficult to read plus on both check in and return the page was magnified so that only the signature section was visible.You are forced to sign without being able to read the contract in full while in the car park area when the agent is only interested in processing your agreement. This is most unsatisfactory as in effect you are are signing blind. On returning the car you must ask for a paper based signature that all is well.Two days later an e mail releasing your deposit is sent,the terminology is poorly worded and gives the impression they are taking funds. " Long lines at the desk on arrival. No one available to physically check-out the car and no damage report was provided. I inspected the car and found no obvious damage so accepted it. On return there was a physical check-in and I was shown some slight damage to an external door lock. I had no way of knowing whether this had occurred before or during my period of hire so disputed the claim that it was my responsibility. I also refused to agree for my credit card to be debited by an unspecified amount to repair the damage or to sign a retrospective clean condition report for the pickup. This is at the very least dubious business practice. On return I discovered that a door lock scam is common in some places and can't help wondering about this. "

This time I only travelled with my Visa debit card and was refused the car. I had to call a friend who lives 50km the other side of Alghero and ask him to come with his credit card, the agent told me I could use this and there would be no extra charge. When my friend arrived I called Auto Europe who made me cancel my contract and take a new contract with my friend as the main driver as we were using his credit card. I was now made to pay an extra £90 because of the new booking. In the meantime I was offered cars from other suppliers with my debit card. Please add Appalled to your ratings list. "

" We hired a vehicle in Brindisi and returned it to Bari. Normally we have not been charged for the return to a different location if the hire is for 5 days or more. I therefore did not look at the confirmation document from Locauto until we arrived in Brindisi. If there is an extra charge it should be notified to the customer at the time of booking as an 80 plus charge came as a bit of a shock and made the car hire expensive. We would have used one of the other hire companies who did not charge for the little extra the hire would have cost. "

" Our car suffered a small knock where someone had reversed into the boot. To have this fixed should cost around 200gbp MAX. Locauto charged 580euro, threatened a 20% increase if we disputed, we curt and rude. They clearly maxed out the charge saying we had to pay to replace every damaged part including a tiny mark etc. Quite simply the damage vs. charge was disproportionate. The manor which is was dealt with by the lady on desk was terrible and it left a bad taste. We will never use them again. " I've never had such a bad experience with a hire car company in 30 years. I booked a VW Passat Estate because I had 3 adults & 2 babies + gear. I had a car with Locauto in April and that was fine. When I returned it, I checked again that they understood the requirement and would allocate the right car; they said they did. When we arrived, late evening, they only had a Mercedes B Class, which is smaller. Their argument was that it was 'in the same category'. I had no choice and it was a nightmare. Also, the car was very battered, even for Italy. In the gloom of the car park, it was impossible to check the car for so many scratches and dents. On return, they claimed I'd added a small scratch and charged me 200! I have written to their HQ... "

On this occasion, when I got to airport, they said that there was something wrong with the car I was supposed to have (a wv golf) and that I would have another car, a Skoda Yeti. This car was very dirty when I got in and was incredibly smelly. It had done nearly 27000 kilometres and must have been an employees car who smoked heavily. The smell really made me feel ill on the drive to my destination. I had to purchase some odour killing spray which helped a bit to make it bearable. Otherwise the car was excellent in terms of comfort and driving. "
