We didn't in fact need the international driving licence that we had specially acquired as it was not clear from the information available whether it would be needed or not. The only thing was that we had never driven an electric car before and it would have been helpful to have a bit more explanation of the control panel as the handbook was all in Norwegian and we couldn't work out what some of the warning alerts meant. However, the pick up was appalling. We had made a reservation for the car, yet had to wait 1.5 hours in a queue to pick up the keys, because there was only one person working on the counter and there was no separate line for people with reservations, meaning those of us who had Prebooked, had to stand and wait whilst others decided what type of car they wanted and everything else. This was hugely frustrating and would make me think twice about booking with hertz again. "

" Very nice hire car - Corolla estate (hybrid). 2 points about hire: 1) after pick up I drove from Gardermoen to Sjusjoen - approx 150kms - I noticed the fuel guage showed just over half full. I was surprised at this but admit that I hadn't checked the fuel level on pick up - just assumed I had a 'gas guzzler'! My son has driven this model before and said that in his experience they were 'super economical'. So, I wonder if car was fully tanked up on pick up. 2) I had to buy a battery for the key fob - minor point! Staff were all super friendly and efficient at Gardermoen. On way back to airport fuel use was minimal which reinforced my suspicion it was not fully topped up initially. Despite this I am happy to use Europcar again. "

" Unfortunately I had booked my rental car at Gardermoen airport in Oslo and not Torp so on arrival I had no transport. However, as Avis had an office at Torp airport, I asked if I could take a car from there. The assistant was very helpful, however, he told me that this wasn't possible because they systems between Avis and the two airports don't speak to each other. I found this astounding as Avis is one of the biggest car rental companies. To make matters worse all trains had been cancelled due to signal problems. The assistant told me Gardermoen was 1 hour 40 mins away and the only way was by bus, which had left the airport or taxi. We had five cases between us and other hand luggage so I had to pay-out £312 for a taxi to take us to Gardermoen. "

" I booked a 'Skoda Octavia Estate or similar' with AutoEurope. Hertz gave me a VW T-Roc. That's not similar to a Skoda Octavia Estate - it's a lot shorter and I specifically wanted an estate with the length to take ski bags and gear. The counter person said the VW was in the same rental class, but he would look for an alternative if I couldn't get the bags in. They did just fit in, with a bit of fiddling, but the car did limit our options during the week's hire. I don't think SUVs should be in the same class as estate cars - they are typically significantly shorter vehicles. They could with better signage at Evenes airport for dropoff - if you follow the signs you get to somewhere else. "

" Auto Europe appears to only provide incomplete information about the booking to the rental partner (in this case Sixt). I had booked a manual car, Sixt confirmed that they didn't have any manual cars at all (Norway mostly uses automatic). Sixt staff explained that they get very limited information from Auto Europe about the booking request. Luckily the car was fine, but don't expect your actual car to be in line with what you had requested via Auto Europe. "

" We were upgraded to a bigger vehicle which seems nice but we had specifically chosen the smallest 4wd we could because we knew the roads could get very small. As it turns out, our AirBNB had three cars packed into a two car garage which involved tight turns up a hill so the bigger car was a struggle every day. The car was a plug in hybrid and we were given no advice on how to use public chargers. We tried parking at a charger once and it turned out it was a rapid charger and the car only had a Type 2 so we just gave up on that and stuck to burning petrol. Obviously the hybrid side worked but it would have been nice to plug in, especially since speeds are so slow round Tromsø. We asked the person who served us for an app or website that would let us know road and weather conditions and he recommended pent.no, which was a pretty terrible website for the purpose. We found a few other services which were actually useful. I don't blame the employee for this, that sort of advice should have been on posters all over the office and second nature for them to recommend to everybody. We used the auto drop off and that went very nicely. We got a bill for tolls a few days later and everything seemed to be in order. "

" I had done the early check in but had to wait for about 15 minutes to get the key. There was only one staff member and spent a long time with the customer. I was third in the que. I could get the key quite fast once she attended to me. She told me to take photos of the existing damages to the car. It was raining and was very difficult to see all the existing damages. I could take the photos of the obvious ones. Later on, I found that a mail was sent after the check in showing the existing damages which I could see only after the trip was completed. It would have been good to send me the existing damages earlier or she should have had a printout which I could verify and add any other damages observed. Anyway, since it was raining, it was difficult to observe all the damages thru the naked eye. I had the unfortunate incident of the wheels touching the kerb or something on the road while going to drop the car back. The location of hertz office was very bad, and the approach was thru the road getting repaired. It was dark and I think I touched the kerb or something which might have caused minor damages to the rims of the 2 wheels on the passenger sides front and back. In addition, they are also reporting of a dent on the driver side which I am not able to understand. It could be either an existing damage or some other car's door might have hit my car which I doubt very much. When I spoke to them, they mentioned that the excess will be charged separately for each of the damages. I am not sure if this is right. Once I get the details from Hertz, I will make the claim thru Auto Europe as I have taken a full protection. So the overall experience was not very good. "

" We were struck by a Tractor-Trailer in Oppdal Norway whilst stationary at a junction. We called roadside rescue who were very prompt. We discussed it with Hertz Gardermoen who asked us to drive the two hour journey to Hertz Nidarvoll Trondheim with a badly damaged car. When we arrived there they did not know we were coming. We filled in a collision form and they directed us to take the car to Vaernes airport (Trondheim) to exchange it with a roadworthy car. This we did. We signed another form and left with another car. The day after receiving the second car I reversed out of a driveway but the reversing camera was not working. I did not inform Vaernes Hertz when this happened but told them about it when we returned to Gardermoen with the car. Before I took the car back to Gardermoen I had repeated messages asking me for yet another collision report about the first car despite having completed one in Trondheim. I also had requests to sign electronically an agreement which I had already signed at Trondheim for the second car. After I returned the replacement car to Gardermoen I received a £300 bill for intercity travel drop off when it was them who asked me to pick up a second car from Trondheim airport as Gardermoen was too far. I had no intention of going to Trondheim at this time. On getting home I received a £1000 bill for the camera on the second car which I think was already damaged when I received the car. The replacement car was prepared quickly as it was at short notice. I am very very angry about all this. It has in effected wrecked our holiday in Norway. It was a mixture of poor communication and threats. I suppose we are going to have to pay for the camera on the second car as we did not see it was not working when we drove away from Trondheim airport. We never received a copy of either rental agreement and are now having to chase them up in order to process claims. "

" The rental car was from Avis, not Budget. It was not particularly clean inside or out. This we might not have bothered to mention, had it not been for the fact that clearly it was part of a much bigger issue of insufficient or non-existent checking of cars between customers. We had not driven many kilometers, before the engine oil alert lamp came on. On calling the helpline provided, we were simply told you are fine to drive on yellow warning light. Just stop if it turns red. Not good enough! When you pay £800 to hire a car for two weeks, you do not expect to have issues with engine oil - or to spend a day of your holiday at a garage! After having spent a couple of hours trying to get through by telephone to Avis, and after the initial chat with the person who told us to just go ahead and drive, and then if it goes red just stop and book into a garage... spoke to a second person who is not an Avis employee but rather their account handler at road rescue, who had a bit more expertise under his belt and who was very helpful. He said to drive to the nearest petrol station and check the oil level. To my horror, it was completely empty! Not a single drop of oil on the dip stick. I took photos as evidence. " I have been advised that there is damage to the car however I spoke to your representative whilst he was taking pictures of the car and he told me there were no issues whatsoever with the car and no additional damage. Had he said that there was I would have looked at the area in question but as he told me he was happy with the inspection there was no reason for me to check this. You cannot advise customers of one thing and then email out of the blue with something else. I was an hour only for check in so was not in a rush. I can categorically advise that I did not damage the car in any way at all. It is interesting to note that that the email with the confirmed marks on the car when I collected does conveniently not show this part of the car which begs me to question that this was there in advance. I would also like to complain about a couple of things relating to this rental. 1. On arrival at the collection I asked whether the team could check whether there were any road closures on the journey between Bergen and Geilo – I was advised that there were not – your member of staff apparently checking online. You can imagine my surprise therefore when I reached the snow gates past Eidfjord on the 7 and the road was closed. I was with a child in the middle of nowhere and couldn't reach my destination in the dark and stormy weather – this is NOT good customer service, cost me a lot of time and money (additional nights accommodation) and could have been so dangerous. 2. Secondly on departing Bergen I noticed a tyre pressure light – despite it already getting dark and with a long journey ahead I stopped and checked all the tyres. They were fine. This light remained on the whole hire – and I checked twice more before travelling back. When I got back to Bergen the same colleague who advised me that there were no issues with my car also said "of yes thats always on its when we put winter tyres on" again this is NOT acceptable level of customer service – 3 times I checked tyres and if only someone had advised that was a known fault light I wouldn't have needed to do that. "

" I have used Auto Europe previously without any issues, but have scored neutral depending on how they deal with my poor experince with my latest booking in Norway. "
" Upon arrival I was issued with an estate car when I had booked a small hatchback vehicle that was VW Golf category. Furthermore the vehicle was not very presentable as it was full of scratches all around the car and even had plastic pieces missing from the bumpers. I had informed the person at Europcar who said he had made a note and advised me take pictures of the car. Once I had taken pictures of the car to show the pre existing damage I sat inside the car and prepared to leave the site, however when I started the engine I was presented with tyre warning light in amber. So I went back inside the Europcar office to inform the sales person of the warning light. He explained that this is due to tyre change on the vehicle and I should ignore it unless it turns red as this is a common fault. I returned to my vehicle and continued with my journey. However once I arrived at my destination we no longer used the car because we felt unsafe in the vehicle. We had snow weather and was informed by a local that our tyres were not suitable for the weather and Europcar should have provided winter tyres on the vehicle. The vehicle was supplied with normal road tyres and had very poor traction in the snow. We were also informed that not only is it dangerous but it is the Law in Norway to have Winter Tyres on vehicles during this time, so we no longer used the vehicle and it remained parked for the remainder of our stay. We then only used the vehicle to return it back at the airport. I was very disappointed at the service Europcar had provided. Europcar should not be provided unsafe vehicles especially when this can risk lives! "

" Auto Europe is my go-to provider. I rarely consider anyone else as you always have good rental companies pretty much everywhere I go (I can think of only one or two exceptions a few years ago). Value is good and the administration very professional, clear, timely. The refundable excess option is good although if that could be bought annually for regular renters like me it'd be great or if preferential rates for zero deductibles from the renters could be negotiated as an option that would be great. "

" We had no problem with picking up the car in Oslo but the drop-off in Oslo Torp airport was very unsatisfactory. No-one checked the car at the point of drop-off. We were later told we had damaged the car. This was simply not true. The car had been in our possession the whole time and we had no accident nor did we damage the car in any way. To be told some hours after the drop-off that it was damaged and that it was our fault was very disappointing. After sending a number of emails, we were told that the office at Gardemoen would deal with the matter. We have heard nothing from them, and have not been provided with their email address to be able to correspond with them. We handed back the car 6 days ago, and have heard nothing from Gardemoen. So I don't know if we are being charged for the damage or not. Highly unsatisfactory! "

I called Auto Europe to explain to which I was told I had to cancel my current booking at a cost of £50 and re-book again at the same price. Car for less time but still had to pay the same? They tried calling Avis to see if they would hold my original booking on several occasions but failed every time to get to speak to someone. not impressed! "

" Car booked was a VW Golf. Received a Honda which was underpowered for 2 Adults & 2 Kids, struggling up hills. Disappointed. Got home to an email from Sixt trying to charge me for some alleged damage. When I contested this (and let's not forget the Sixt Rep wouldnt come out his office to look at the car with me), the claim by Sixt was quickly retracted stating the scratches could be 'polished out'. Sixt just trying it on; pure opportunism ....... never again with Sixt !! "

" Our experience dropping off the car at Oslo airport was unsatisfactory. We acquired a parking ticket fine while using the car rental. When we asked the front counter staff what to do and how to go about paying the fine, he laughed and said a bank could wire but gave no further instructions. We were also disappointed that there was not a complimentary shuttle from the airport car rental to our airport hotel and that we had to pay a fee to take the shuttle. "

" It would have been nice to have the toll system explained when we collected the car rather than when we returned it. This is our first time in Norway and we had no idea we were running up tolls continually. We are still awaiting the invoice for these tolls and assume they will be fully itemised. Quite what happens if we need to query them we have yet to find out. "
