" This was a complete shambles. Auto Europe booked a car which Sixt said they did not own. Why did not Sixt alert auto europe to this? Sixt pulled exactly the same scam on me earlier in the year at Girona when they said the car I had booked was not available as they had hired it to someone else because our flight was one hour late. Clearly dishonest. Auto euro this needs to be sorted out and as my primary agent I expect you to act on my behalf. "
" I rented through you for £839.29 a VW Multivan 7 pax. on arrival in Naples we were told that "we don't do them." We were offered a Peugeot7 seater car. It was a 5 seater with 2 fold down seats in the luggage area. I had booked a VW 7 seater because I was travelling with 6 elderly adults 2 of whom had mobility issues. We wasted 4 hours at the Airport persuading the Sixt staff to sort out the problem. they eventually located a VW of the type we had booked "which we don't do" in Rome which they said that they could deliver to the airport the following day. Clearly completely unacceptable and our tour was already half a day behind schedule. In the end we agreed to drive the 3 hours to our hotel we the most nimble of our group crammed in to the luggage space. The VW Caravelle "which we don't do" was delivered there from Rome at 2000 hours and the fuel tank was not full. .. It was the most damaged vehicle I have ever hired. The VW Multivan 7 Pax which I hired and which Sixt agreed to provide cost £839.29. I paid this on the 9th July through auto europe. Sixt have charged me an additional £759.45 which incurred an additional £20.88 foreign exchange charge. this must be repaid. "

" I'm not sure if people booking through autoeurope are being treated differently to the ones booking directly with SIXT. This is the first time SIXT have let me down and the first time I booked SIXT through autoeurope so I'm not sure what's going on. "
" I was expecting a BMW series 1 or similar (eg A3) but this category was unavailable and I was given an apparent upgrade to Jeep Renegade. Their car classification rates the Jeep Renegade above a BMW Series 1 or Audi A3. I am not happy with this classification. The vehicle I received was not similar in type and not a premium vehicle as advertised. There was no other choice at approx 10:00am unless I upgraded to an Audi Q2 at the rate of an extra 25 euros per day. It's hard to believe considering the time of day I arrived and using a major car hire company. Approx 45% of the total cost of my original hire cost. What were they going to offer customers for the rest of the day?? Is this an attempt to upsell when the customer faces sky high prices at the desk? Never had problems with Sixt in the past. Sixt advertise premium cars at economy prices but I seem to have received an economy SUV at a premium price. If they truly believe I received a real car upgrade then it's time for me to find another car hire company. "

" Sixt was very professional from start to finish. There was a very strong push to purchase additional insurance coverage when I picked up the car. I felt that your company had me adequately covered, so I declined the multiple entreaties to get more insurance. The car was in great shape. Rather than a small sedan, I was provided a small SUV. The reason was Sixt's recent experience with that model - Alfa Gulietta - be stolen more frequently. The small SUV - Jeep Renegade - was a little less agile than a sedan, a little larger on Sicilian roads, and had lower MPG. Turn-in of the car was a really good experience. No petty efforts to find minor damage. "

We were not at all happy about this which actually doubled the cost of the car hire. We would have liked to be forewarned about this so that we could investigate other options rather than being made to feel we had no choice and pressured into taking out this additional insurance at considerable cost. We also had 300 euros blocked on our credit card and were told on returning the car it would be reimbursed in a few days but I am still waiting a week later "

There was extensive damage to it with dents, scratches and a missing rear passenger door handle. There was a service light on and the display indicating an overdue service (although it was in Dutch so i couldn't be sure) which when coupled with the damage made me a bit worried about driving up to Tuscany- however there was no alternative so I was advised it would be fine. At drop off when I started to raise the issues the staff emmener seemed disinterested and didn't seem to care so I felt there was no point continuing to explain. The booking was to have a full tank however only 2/8 of tank so I had to get diesel quite soon which was inconvenient - I then had to explain to drop off team that it didn't have a full tank on pick up (they seemed unaware of this) "

" I have no problem with SiXT but I was not impressed with the service provided by autoeurope when I encountered a flight delay. Outbound flight had a long delay due to the knock on effect of the previous days storm. As instructed on the autoeurope site I contacted customer service to notify them of the delay and to give them information about expected arrival time. Customer service would not ensure that the hire car would still be available by the time I arrived. What is the point of stating on your website to inform you in the event of a delay? You can do nothing (as I was told by customer services). They said I should contact SIXT directly myself. Autoeurope agreed to send an email to SiXT in Catania to notify them of the delay as I was unable to find a contact number for the rental desk in Catania and could not action a delay notification on the main SIXT automated telephone response as it did not give a choice for later pickup. There was no option to speak to a customer service agent at SIXT. I contacted autoeurope to see if i could rebook the vehicle as your site was showing the same vehicle i had booked as being available (for less than I had originally booked it for) but was told I would be unable to do so. On arrival in Catania my booked vehicle was not available and they had not received any email from autoeurope. I had no option but to pay 200 Euros extra to rent an upgraded car as there was nothing else available. Poor service from autoeurope. I suggest you remove the statement you make on your website regarding contacting you in the event of a delay because it is a waste of time. Not sure I really want to rent from you again and I have been renting from you regularly for quite a few years. "

We were advised at pick-up that it did and/or could be somehow linked to our iphones to provide a sat nav system but, although we tried (& are experienced iphone / sat nav users) it wasn't possible. (2) the signage for rental car drop-off when returning to the airport is very poor/small by comparison with numerous other European airports and the particular car park entrance gate is not at all obvious. (3) Having finally found the entrance, there were zero Sixt-labelled available spaces so we had to use one for a different rental company (4) there was no-one from Sixt or Auto Europe in the returns car park so we were obliged to photograph the car all round in case there was a subsequent false claim of damage. Minimal service at pick up, no walk through of the car or run through of car condition, no explanation of whether to return full tank or what type of petrol, all this had to be guessed by ourselves. At drop off literally no checks so a case of your word against theirs, no one at the counter to pick up key so had to left in a box, no explanation of where to park the car at drop off so again complete guess work. Now I have been charged a large additional amount to my card post rental despite already paying for the rental, with no explanation whatsoever, and I cannot get through to customer services by any means. Disgraceful service, feel robbed of my money. Would not recommend using Sixt at all, should be avoided. "

" Renting a car in Catania, which I have done many times over the years, is generally a painful experience. Cars are often not clean or what one would expect from the description at the time of booking and staff at the rental places can often be very rude, dismissive and even aggressive. "

" It's very clear that after this experience that 1) they don't put aside your vehicle at all and just find you something they have left, 2) don't buy the insurance from Auto Europe because the hire company don't have a clue about it and want to sell you there insurance and 3) probably best to go direct to a car hire company. Given all of this, using Auto Europe to just book a base car is fine provided you are aware of those caveats. "
" Unfortunately, Sixt wouldn't recognise the CDW and Excess liability insurance I had purchased from Auto Europe and proceeded to upsell us their own insurance. Given the circumstances of not knowing and being under pressure on the spot, we accepted their insurance. Also, the vehicle type we had ordered was not available and we ended up with an Audi A6 Estate. This was not ready and blamed on a broken car wash and more than an hour later we eventually got the car, which proceeded to break down around 6 miles north of the airport. It went into "limp home" mode and we ended up having to drive back through Catania, which was a nerve wracking experience only having just got the car! We had to return to Sixt to get a replacement car. This all took, in the end, several hours after having landed. The only saving grace was that the drop off was quick and painless. I am looking to get a refund for the insurance we didn't use. "

I had to buy oil and add it to the engine. Car had a lot of scratches but lady looked over it thoroughly with us. As we hadn't paid extra for satnav they disable the integrated one - but did leave the card in the slot in the glovebox - quick tip there! On return the guy was really nice and efficient, had a quick look over, took a picture of the oil receipt and let us go. No attempts to blame us for any scratches. "

" To whom it may concern, I am writing this email from my holiday destination in Les Arcs, in the French Alps. We picked up our hire car from Milan Airport on Wednesday 7th August, at approximately 8pm. The car was well presented and only had around 5,000 miles on the clock, so we set off to towards Les Arcs. Our group consisted of myself and my wife, plus our 14 and 11 year old children. Our route took us over the high mountain pass between La Thuile (Italy) and La Rosiere (France), via the Cole de Petit Saint Bernard. We crossed this pass at around 12:30pm and descended safetly and steadily towards La Rosiere and on to Les Arcs. We were expecting to be safely in resort by 1:30am. On descending past La Rosiere, the front right tyre had a sudden blow-out and the pressure emptied itself within 10 seconds. I carefully parked the car in a suitable lay-by, off the road. At this point I was prepared for the standard, well practiced task of changing the damaged wheel for the spaer tyre. I anticipated adding about 20 mins to our journey, as I removed all the baggage from the boot of the car and carefully extracted the spare wheel from the rear. It was then that myself and my wife discovered that (a) the jack was missing the handle to raise itself and (b) there was no wrench to remove the wheel nuts. We simply could not believe this and proceeded to empty the car completely and even explored behind some of the car panelling to make sure we had not missed anything. But still no joy. The time was now approaching 1:30am and we realised that being on a dark, remote mountain road, the chances of getting help were extremely difficult. The children were really tired and everyone was looking forward to getting to bed in our destination. Realising that we were in a helpful suitation and there was no way we were going to be able to now switch tyres, we proceeded to try to ring the Italian Sixt emergency breakdown cover. After being on hold for 15 mins, this was going nowhere. Not what I would have expected at 1:30am, when any emergency was obviously going to be serious. Wth no luck getting through to the Italian breakdown service, we then tried the UK office, were we had more lukc getting through. They passed us onto a breakdown service, but for some reason they could not match our rental contract to their records and said they could send out a mechanic to help, but we would need to pay 400 Euros upfront for this service - which was beyond incredible! In the meantime we were resorting to flagging down passing cars and lorries to try to help us. Four vehicles did kindly stop, but unfortunately none of them had the right tools to help us. The time was now about 5:30am and we had been stuck on the mountain for about 4 hours. My wife then eventually got through to the Italian breakdown service and after repeated calls finally managed to get them to agree to send out a local French mechanic. He eventually turned up at around 6:15am and very efficiently jacked up our car, released the wheel nuts and replaced our wheel. We finally reached our destination 6:30 hours behind schedule at around 7:30am! This whole, incredibly stressful experience was the direct result of the hire car being incorrectly setup for use.To supply a rental car to. family on holiday, without the right tools to fix a simple flat tyre is beyond belief and is also very dangerous. A task that should have taken 20 minutes ended up taking 6:30 hours and completely ruined our fist day's holiday and mean we were incredibly stressed and exhausted. To top things off, I have had to give up another day of my holiday looking for a garage to replace the tyre (at a cost of 120 Euros), when it was the tyre side-wall that had perished and blew-out, rather than a classic piercing puncture. I had to drive to the garage, with the knowledge that the car stil does not have a wrench or a working jack - so I cannot imagine the situation if I was to have another puncture! I cannot believe that this situation arose and I would very much like to hear your thoughts on this, plus I would expect to be compensated appropriately for all costs incured, plus for the loss of holiday and inconvenience caused when stuck on the roadside. "

" This was an efficient service, both at pick-up and drop-off. We had booked for a VW Polo or equivalent, but were offered a Citroen C3 instead, as it had a larger boot. The condition of the vehicle appeared good, but the car's performance seemed so poor that we suspected there was a problem with the vehicle. After refilling with good quality petrol, the performance improved substantially. That led us to suspect that the car had been supplied with degraded fuel. Just prior to returning the vehicle, we refilled it with fuel only to find that the fuel gauge showed only about 80%. After another attempt to refill at a separate filling station just along the same road, the fuel gauge again showed only 80%. We were assured by Sixt that this is a common problem with Citroens. We were quite surprised, then, to be charged around €10 for extra fuel in our final invoice emailed to us after our return to the UK. Reading about other car hire experiences in Southern Italy, on the whole, we feel that we were treated reasonably well and would be happy to use Sixt again. "

" On first impressions Sixt were excellent. They upgraded us for only 5 euro a day to have a car with GPS and additional driver. We were presented with a brand new Volkswagen Golf and were very happy. However the GPS didn't work and we didn't realise this until we got to our destination as we didn't need it right away. So phoned Sixt and were advised to come back to the airport where they would replace the car for one with a working GPS. So we drove back to the airport (about 1hr 30mins) and were presented with a very different situation. The counter personnel wasn't interested, and just said we could take a standalone GPS as there was no other car available. However we upgraded the car to have this integrated and drove 1hr 30mins out of our way whilst on holiday to resolve this as we planned to do a lot of driving requiring GPS. He eventually waived the upgrade fee which was satisfactory but meant that the second driver wasn't included on the car. However we found out that the second driver was never put onto the contract as she was 24 and that would mean a young driver surcharge would apply. We were specifically advised in the first instance that the young driver surcharge did not apply and she would be added on with the upgrade fee. Had we not gone back she would have driven hundreds if not thousands of miles uninsured! Extremely disappointed with the advice received. We in the end, after a long discussion left with a car with no GPS and no additional driver but didn't pay the extra fee so not all lost asides from a big waste of time. The car was great, and the drop off was easy and quick - however I am still yet to receive my final invoice from Sixt. "

" That car, a BMW, was aboutvas low spec as possible, showed considerable cosmetic damage and was far from clean. The official record did not mention all the damage and it took about 30 min to rectify that. The agent had suggested rhat our autoeurote excess coverage was not adequate particulry concerning glass, tyres and roof. I had checked it before flying and concluded that it was. On return the car was subjected to minute examination (good thing iI had pointed out the unrecorded damage) though none was found (after the agent used car polish to remove dirt). That was another 30 min. In my view this is a scam to ensure you but their excess weight insurance. If you have the patience it can be avoided, but this is very poor behaviour. "
