They did not have the same type of car available (then just for much more money, 20-30 EUR each day). And then they are also cheating and charging more than I had signed - (102 EUR instead of 63 EUR) higher amount for the oil - and also gave me no option regarding how the oil would be when returning - just said best to return with an empty tank. The tank was so big that I did not use half of the oil, still driving more than 600 kilometers. So they definitely cheated on me with the oil !, not happy. Today received an email with an invoice charging me 33.93 + 23% tax for fuel. This is plain and simple rip off, the attendant told me everything was fine, if there was an issue with the fuel I would have expected to be told at the time, there was no issue and now back home what can I do about it, I am livid and been ripped off. I have proof of the fuel purchases. Would not recommend Sixt in the slightest with their underhand dealings "

He also went with a torch underneath the car. " We pre-booked a Qashqai or similar and were therefore surprised to be offered an Audi Q2, which has nothing like the same luggage space. We asked for a replacement but had to wait over half an hour before we were offered a Hyundai Tucson, which we accepted. By now, we were pressed for time and needed to reach our next destination, so we were not as careful in inspecting the vehicle as we would have been if we had known what we were to be subjected to on our return--for example, we would have done a video of the entire car. Indeed, we did check the car but were told that some superficial damage we pointed out didn't matter. And neither their operative nor ourselves checked under the car as we have never been required to before. The car was already quite damaged, as can be seen from our paperwork, but on our return we were told we had further damaged the car when we had not. The process took around 20 minutes, delaying our check in. We were treated as though we had taken no care of the car, when the opposite is the truth. We disputed your employee's findings in respect of damage, pointing out to him that there were several notes already on the paperwork relating to, for instance, damage to the front bumper, dented doors and damage to the rear and tailgate. In many years of renting cars we have never been treated in this way. "

The roadside assistance guy was great but could only put the temporary tyre on and tell me to contact Sixt at Faro airport. Sixt at Faro were closed all weekend and after an hour and a half on Monday 31st July of no joy of ringing various numbers, I spoke to customer service at Auto Europe who said they deal with it. I'm still waiting for them to get back to me. I even followed up with an email. Still nothing. Finally got through to Sixt UK on the Thursday who got in touch with Faro. I was told I couldn't swap the car so I arranged for a tow truck to collect it as it did not feel safe to do a 45 minute drive all the way back to the airport. Later I was told they could swap it in the end I said I'd had a resolution and would stick with it. I had no car for the entire duration of my stay. I'm trying to get a refund but cannot find any way of making a claim or a complaint. Quite honestly, I will never use Auto Europe or Sixt again. Since then, my family who all had bookings have cancelled ahead of their holidays. If you bother to read this I would like someone to contact me. "

" AVOID SIXT!!!!! APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE. On trying to drop off car for an early flight, no access could be obtained to the car park where we had been told to return the car to and drop the keys. Turns out the car park had been totally cleared to allow resurfacing works to take place but we were not updated on where to return the vehicle. In the end we had to leave the car on the terminal concourse. Absolute nightmare and we nearly missed our plane. Clearly we had been totally forgotten about. Was advised to persuaded to pay for tank of fuel rather on collection rather than "full to full" as petrol station would be closed early in the morning when we were due to drop off. This is not correct. "

Since I only intended to use the motorway system on the day of my arrival I declined the offer to actuate the transponder and was told that after three days wait time it would be possible to pay the toll for that one journey at a post office. When I was leaving Portugal seven days later the system was still not showing any record of the journey, so I will probably have to pay a fine when Sixt eventually receive the bill. "

" My vehicle, a Renault Clio, was the oldest, highest kilometre (over 39000 KM) and the most damaged vehicle (it was harder to find a panel without a scratch or dent) I have ever been allocated by Sixt - and they did not appear to care!! I have tended to choose Sixt, often not the cheapest, but I will definitely think again in the future. This damages YOUR reputation as well. "

Must be on commission for Insurance. No people skills. I am ex Prison Governor and feel sorry for customers who have been intimidated into buying the insurance. Wouldnt recommend SIXT or AutoEurope to anyone. Have been visiting and hiring cars for 8 years plus. Coldest experience so far. Car was fine but the quality of customer reception and return was appalling. On return 3 or more people were in the Office. None were interested in the return - just told to put keys in the box. 36 years experience in the Prison Service and hired Staff . No level of Trust established and generally minimal contact. No real handover on the car apart from checking the bodywork. Not shown lights and functions of the car properly. Very poor experience all round. The Insurance issue was something that I would link to backstreet car dealers with a low reputation "

Next day, when I tried to turn on the aircon I found that, despite having paid for it, the car didn't have any. I phoned Sixt and asked them to replace the car. They said they could only do that if I brought the car back to the airport, a round trip of about 200km. Many phone calls and emails were exchanged and, after I eventually insisted in being put in contact with a supervisor, they agreed to replace the car in Portimao about 15km away. I was upgraded to a Renault Clio which had water leaking into the driver's footwell. "

You are emailed the rental agreement and left to go on your way . On return the drop off is hectic with numerous vehicles being dropped off at the same time , the staff member checked the vehicle and stated all was in order but no information is given as to when your deposit will be refunded . We later received an email stating that no new damage had been caused but it also showed two areas of previously reported damage . To improve the service more information should be given at the time of collection showing existing damage and the timescales for the return of the refund . I have no problem with AutoEurope but Sixt could improve their procedures . "

" I was provided with an upgrade (to a Seat Leon estate with Sat Nav) which was a good start. However, the sat nav proved not to be very reliable - not sure if that is generic, or specific to the vehicle provided - which from time to time proved frustrating. The vehicle, on its return, was lightly soiled externally and internally. The member of staff dealing with the return told me there was no damage identified and that a Return Checklist would be emailed to me. The Checklist, when received, stated that the vehicle interior soiling was average and that it was heavily soiled externally. That is not correct. I note that Sixt reserve the right to re-inspect the vehicle for damage if it is dirty. " I wanted to go to another country, and I marked this option in my booking. When I arrived to get my car the Rental Company (Sixt) asked from me 150 EUR for this service. A bit strange that I didn't get any message or comment about it from AutoEurope. Also, few weeks before checkout date I wanted to change my booking to another company, I made these changes in my account and got approval. When I opened my account in the check out date I saw my old booking without any changes.... "
" First time I received broken car, there was a strange smell of brakes or burn tires. I changed this car after few hours, and after 7 days received email about scratch that they want me to pay for it (about 200 EUR). They also wrote that they made an Expertise and they are sure that it was my fault. Good for me that when I took the car I made a video with all scratches and this one was there too... So, no excuses for broken car, but please pay for scratches that not yours. Be careful and pay attention for all smallest scratches and take care to make a few photos or videos! "

I was tired from an early start to my travels and so it only became clear during my holiday, by which time I felt it was too later to do anything about. " Auto Europe provides very good deals, I have rented trough Auto Europe loads of times and apart from one time that I didn't got my rental thought (do to my own fault) I never had any problems, they have a very good costumer service that are happy to help you if it's within their reach. I would suggest just checking the full excess cover package rentals as every time I pick one up the car rental company process my booking with a basic liability cover and will charge you more (whatever their rates are) for a full liability cover package. "
" I normally rent car with other company but I thought I give Sixt a try as they where doing a better deal than my usual. They offer me a very attractive insurance upgrade option when I went to pick up my rental, however the price was a bit steep for me, so I decided to decline and keep my current booking. On return the car had a tiny scratch (the usual supermarket cart scratch) in the front bumper, which Sxit decided to pick up on, which I had no problem with as it wasn't there when it came to my hands, little would I knew that Sixt would be charging me 160€ + 28.46€ "fine handling fee" (exactly the same value of the upgrade!) for something that would buff out with a 60€ polish job. Now with this overly expensive joke of a scratch + toll charges that I was invoice for a month down the line from my rental end I'm 250€ out of my pocket. I'm definitely not looking to rent with this company again! "

" Have used Sixt on numerous previous occasions and found them top class. Sadly Mr Risnoveanu who dealt with me when I picked up the car was more intent on selling me a full tank of petrol and other extras than carrying out his basic duties re customer service. He did not ask me if I would be travelling on the Motorway and therefore wished to hire a transponder which would cover the fees for using the road. I asked him about paying for a transponder and he said I could pay at the Post Office (a system I have used in the past when hiring from other companies) and wouldn't need one. I prefer to pay for a transponder but went along with his suggestion. I called in at the Post Office in Lagos three times during the following week but was told that I could not pay for my use of the motorway as there was no fee shown on the computer. I tried again the following week at the Post Office and also the local paper shop and again was told there was nothing to pay. I know from experience that prepaying for and using a transponder is a simple and easy way of dealing with the Motorway issue. Upon returning the car I told the Assistant who checked things out about the problem (He was up to the usual Sixt high standard of customer service) He told me not to worry and I would be told if there was anything to pay and it would be taken from my credit card. The attitude of Mr Risnoveanu when I collected the car was not good. On two occasions whilst dealing with me he engaged colleagues in what appeared to be small talk and just ignored me. I suppose the way to get his full attention and appropriate level of service would have been at agree to have every extra he suggested: upgrade car? automatic? Pay for a full tank of petrol (bring back empty) upgrade insurance? Only extra I wanted (Transponder) he didn't or wouldn't sell me. Will stick with Sixt but hopefully I don't meet up with Mr Risnoveanu again unless he has had appropriate staff training in the meantime. "

" I have used Auto Europe on many occasions and have always received a first class service. In this case being a visitor to Portugal for the first time, we were told we had to pay up front 75 euros for use of the toll roads. If we didn't take this then we couldn't take the car. We did pay this charge. On our arrival at out hotel our Receptionist informed us that we only pay if we use the toll road and each day she can access the website to see if we had used the toll road. She was very surprised that we had to pay this charge. When we returned the vehicle we queried this with one of the Customer Service Advisors who stated we would get the full refund of the 75 euros. We will wait and see. I am more than happy to use Auto Europe but unlikely to sue or recommended SIXT. "

" Overall, all paperwork sent in time, but better clarifications about what is and is not insured from the Auto Europe website as I thought it may not be clear enough what a customer is actually purchasing, when different insurance options on this occasion actually could have doubled the car hire price. It may be that AutoEurope might consider a third option on prices similar to your competitors and include a complete nothing further to pay incase of accident / claim, ie full excess / accident cover fully included in the price. "

As vehicles are ever more filled with electronic gadgetry, a one page summary of all the things the vehicle can do would be helpful, as it can be disconcerting when eg gear change sounder goes off with out knowing what it is for a couple of days! Upon arrival the next day, the company had automatically cancelled our reservation, knowing full well of the extent of flight diversions. We had to rent another car from another rental company despite paying for the cancelled rental for the whole week. " I am extremely disappointed with both the treatment from Auto Europe on this occasion and that from Sixt. I have paid for extra insurance for full cover but was given a car with 2 scratches. I was told this had been noted and was from a previous hirer and that I would not be accountable. Upon return of the vehicle it was inspected and passed as OK by the assessor. However Sixt have levied an additional charge! I have tried to contact Sixt several times but without any successful response. I have also asked an operative at Auto Europe for help but I a, still waiting for a response, I deem this poor service and due to incurring these costs and additional interest on my credit card while I wait for some resolve, I am now considering legal action via a solicitor. " Whilst the booking process is easy there is still much confusion about insurance and what is/is not included when booking through Auto Europe. I was offered, and foolishly accepted additional insurance by Sixt for wheels and windows plus Super Cover; only when reading the Auto Europe booking later did I realise that wheels/windscreen were already covered in my booking. There is too much confusion on insurance, it needs to be clear and simple so companies cannot stress you into taking out additional cover that is not needed. "

" This was my first time renting with SIXT. I rented a compact for 9 days at Lisbon airport in Portugal. Picking up the car was effortless, efficient and really straight forward. After reading so many reviews of a number of rent-a-car's, complaining that they always try to push you into buying additional insurances or extras I was pleasantly surprised when the SIXT's employee that was talking to me didn't try to sell me unwanted stuff. He politely asked if I wanted extra insurance coverage, to which I replied that I already had bought some trough AutoEurope and if I wanted to take the car with a full tank of gas and bring it back full. And that was it! Oh and the best part? I also got a free upgrade to a premium class, I mean what else could you ask for?? When I rent a car I take into account the make and model that I would like to get as I really enjoy driving, having a free upgrade to a premium model was really the cherry on top. The car was spotless and tidy with very few millage. I took it back after 9 days, all without a hitch, turning the car in was also super straightforward. Long story short, I definitely recommend SIXT and surely will be renting with them again in the near future! "

" The car was great, a joy to drive. Pricier than I would have liked because we asked for an automatic, and I really don't understand why that comes out so much more expensive than manual. One thing is that a little more explanation would have been useful at the start. The technology of cars is advancing so fast that I think rental firms sometimes don't appreciate that we may not all be familiar with keyless ignition etc. There didn't even seem to be a manual in the car, leading to small things like not being able to work out how to retract the wing mirrors! The return was just a bit slow because of massive queues, but having said that, the Sixt staff were great, taking the car off us in the queue and doing the check there and then so we could get away. "
