I phoned Auto Europe at the time who told me that what they were saying was wrong (the counter staff said I would be charged Euro1000 for every scratch and my excess policy wasn't good enough). I refused the extra charge / insurance - In response the counter staff refused to give me the car. " I handed the car back and was advised verbally that Sixt was entirely happy with the car. Three days later I received the invoice which included a penalty refuelling charge. When challenged on this charge Sixt claimed that they had topped up the fuel tank with just 3.76 litres of fuel! If you cannot rely on what the Sixt agent tells you on hardback, the risk of extra fuel charges is minor when compared with the cost of any alleged damage that it may be subsequently claimed has been found on the car. I am not sure if I can afford to trust Sixt in future when I am at risk for in the region of 1,000 euros plus in respect of the insurance excess. In addition, all aspects of the handover and hardback were very disappointing - due to lack of staff and a lack consideration for the clients in the way the overall process was designed. "

" Dreadful. The staff on the Sixt desk in the airport insisted we paid for additional insurance for the car which we were not expecting and didn't want. I showed them the voucher details from Auto Europe which clearly said that we had an Excess Guarantee with additional coverage for wheels, underside and roof, physical damage coverage and theft waiver. We told them that we had already taken out cover with Auto Europe and didn't require any extra but were told that there we had to pay either "basic" or "full" rate insurance - an additional 22 or 42 euros per day. There were 2 staff on the desk, neither would give us straight answers to our questions and brow beat us by insisting that we had to pay this additional insurance. This is clearly a deliberate strategy, they made the process incredibly complicated and confusing and clearly used the fact that it was late (9pm), we were tired and wanted to get to our holiday resort as soon as possible. The family next to us cancelled their car and took a taxi as they refused to pay the additional 500 euros the Sixt staff were insisting upon! When we picked up the car outside, a female Sixt member of staff told us we did not need to pay the additional insurance, it was optional. We were furious, we knew they were ripping us off, we were just unable to prove it. We are out of pocket now by £148 (including taxes etc) and since I've returned home, I had been appalled by the shocking reviews of Sixt on Trusted Pilot, Trip Advisor etc. by people who have had exactly the same experience. I bitterly regret not researching reviews of this company beforehand and am seriously surprised that you still partner with them, they are clearly happy to scam vulnerable customers late at night with kids in tow in a foreign country. We will be pursuing our complaint vigorously. We are not naive people and are disgusted at being so duped. I will also be reporting them to my bank in case they attempt to take more money out of my account under the ruse of "damages". I've heard that this is another favourite action of theirs. The car incidentally was returned in exactly the same state as when it was picked up with a full tank of petrol. We even spent 10 euros at the garage hoovering it out. "

When we arrived (my sister-in-law and I) had booked 2 cars for 9 family members - we were shown to a Peugeot 208? which was badly scratched along the front bumper - 40 cm or more and the undercoat was showing through. We asked to see other vehicles in the same class and we were shown ONE - again not impressed - as we needed two. An upgrade was suggested by the Sixt rep Sergei/Vincente who was keen to sell us un upgraded model. We were shown alternatives and he said my sister-in-law could have a VW T-ROC for 5 euros a day. He told me quietly, that if she took the deal - I could have an upgrade for 3 euros per day. She agreed and we went in to the office. He then added 21% tax to the price - she said no and we were back where we started. We went around the car park again and suddenly he announced a nice little Citroen ws in the same category. She took it and this left me with the scraped Peugeot or an upgrade. As nothing was available I took the upgrade (Sergei/Vincente had now agreed to remove the 21% tax. We were also 'pushed' to take his/Sixt insurance - even though we had taken insurance through Auto Europe. He told us that this wasn't wise and that we were only partly protected and that we should speak directly to him next time when we arrived. On drop off - the rep (no name) was much more professional. Not a great experience and you end up spending your holiday thinking - what charges will I be getting when I return the car. Not recommending or using Sixt on future trips - may even put my experience on my facebook and twitter accounts! "

" We were a little disappointed when we arrived as Sixt we not keen to give us the small car we rented, saying it wasn't good for where we were going, so they told us we needed to upgrade. They also then said the insurance we bought from autoeurope wasn't good enough and that we needed to get extra. We ended up paying another 300 euros to upgrade and for insurance, which we were not expecting at all. I don't know whether we needed the extra insurance, but they were very convincing. So I don't know where the problem was as I thought I had bought insurance with auto Europe. The whole experience has put me off and I probably won't use either company again. "

" Staff at the counter was eager to sell extra insurance. Long waiting time at the counter. The first car I received made a noise, possibly caused by a broken wheel bearing or a suspension. After long telephone conversations with various call centres a mechanic looked at it and advised that Sixt should send a new car. When I contacted sixt the next day they refused to send a new car but offered that I could exchange it at the airport. So that meant 180 km drive at my expense because I needed to return the first car with a full tank. I was advised that I would get a discount which will be reflected in the final credit card payment they will take. This never happened, instead I was charged an amount that was higher than I expected. I will not use Sixt again and will certainly not recommend them to others. "

We arrived at the counter to be told that because we are 1 hour late they had given our booking away to another customer. this was despite being paid for in full. their justification was to say because we used a third party booking agency at not themselves they have no obligation to wait for us. even more so because a flight number was not inputted for them to track. However explaining to the counter staff that no email or contact was attempted to be made, several flights being delayed and the fact the booking was already paid for makes their reaction foolish and unprofessional. extremely disappointment to be told the only other automatic car would be a class higher and I would have to pay even more. it was either that or lose all my money. they essentially backed me in to a corner where it felt like i was extorted for money all in a foreign country. " Overall the whole experience was good. However, I specifically filtered my choices to only include companies 'on airport'. Sixt's vehicles are NOT located at the airport and it's necessary to get a bus transfer between Sixt and the airport. Just because Sixt have a desk at the airport does not mean AutoEurope should tell customers that 'they are located at the airport', it's false and misleading. However, thanks to the excellent service of Sixt and their friendly staff this didn't become too big an issue. But Auto Europe need to review their filtering system. "
