" When we arrived they told us we can only have one bag in the car. They said there is a law that says we cannot fold down the seats to put more bags due to the danger of bags hurting people if there is an accident. I believe the angle was to try and upgrade to a bigger car but they had none available, so they said we could not take the car unless we got a taxi to follow us with our luggage to our accomodation. So we had to order a taxi to put our extra bags in! They also seemed perturbed that we had not booked directly with them and as I had added the extra insurance with you, they said we would have to pay for any damages etc and said "good luck" getting the money back from auto Europe if any thing happened. They also said there would be a €100 charge if we brought the car back dirty which would have been according to their subjective opinion. I paid to get the car cleaned just in case as I did not trust them! Overall a very difficult and long check in experience with them as they kept on making up reasons why we couldn't have all our luggage in the car (apart from the new "law" that no one else has heard of), including damage it would cause and weight overloading (even when I showed them that the Nissan micra can carry 459kg with a quick Google). They said I am renting the car (not purchasing and it's their call what we can and cannot do with it. An absolutely terrible experience! "

" It was not clear to me that I was looking for Surprice from your communications, so spent a lot of time wondering around looking for autoeurope. Neither does surprice have any profile at the airport. Found their logo on a small van parked behind many other. Your pick/up drop/off locations were simply listed as Athens airport. This was inaccurate, as drop off was at the surprice location several km from the airport. There is some large disadvantage to users working through a proxy, and it was not clear from your website that this was indeed a proxy situation. Also was informed that although I paid for 5 days, this is not based on 24 hr periods, but actually on the exact times I estimated for drop off. Because I was an hour late, I was told that I could be charged, although it was only 6 hrs into the 5th day. Is not a policy I am familiar with from other rental experiences. To me, I own that day, and is just a courtesy that I tell you when I think I am returning. I was informed on pick up to choose between a 350euro insurance package or an 1800euro mandatory deposit. This was a surprise. Again, make clear you are a proxy! "

I felt it was slightly unclear where I had to wait at the airport arrivals for the Surprice Minibus to collect me (would make it easier if there was a sign, and if the minibus had a clearer sign writing on the side). 2. " The pick up service at Athens airport was satisfactory and quite efficient once I called them The staff member at the desk recommended I took extra insurance and didn't seem happy when I pointed out that I had already had this through Autoeurope I observed a person dropping a car off and losing his excess due to them finding a small scratch on the car so was very wary. When I checked the car I was given I found many dents and scratches and also marks internally so I asked the staff member to come out with me so I could point them out but was told to just take photos or a video so I could prove I hadn't caused the damage when returning the car. At this point there was only myself and three staff members in the place but they refused to get off their backsides to come out to check as it wasn't Surprice policy to do so. This is wrong They should be pointing out the issues to me before hire and reassuring me that they were aware of any issues. Not to mention the fact that the cars should be in better condition anyway. I found the whole experience of picking the car up unpleasant and felt like they were doing me a favour by allowing me to rent one of their cars. This tainted my whole holiday as I was constantly worried about being held responsible for any existing damage even though I had full insurance through Autoeurope and felt like the whole thing was an insurance money making scam To be fair though on returning the car after spending the 8 day hire period checking the car for any damage I may have caused the car was given a quick check over by a somewhat miserable staff member and accepted back without issue. In my opinion Surprice need to look at the whole process and change how they treat their customers. " Ionian car rentals T/A Surprice at Zakynthos Airport provided me with a vehicle with 106,000 Kim's on the clock. They were insistent on me taking their extra cover at a cost of approximately €230 even though I had insisted I had this cover through yourselves and refused to pay this extortionate amount. They also said that they had inspected the car, a Grey Yaris reg no XEK 3832 but that I take photos/video of its condition. I did so noting the scratches on the panels that were visible to me in bright sunlight. None of these scratches showed up on their pre rental paperwork and the emphasis was on the client to records any damage. Throughout the hire, the car would annoyingly not start for some minutes after the first drive where engine was hot showing a "car not ready" message on the dash. It was also overdue a service. As we were staying the length of the island away from the Airport, I decided that it would have taken a large part of our day to have this resolved. I did advise the check in person on my return who ignored my comments. They obviously do not spend money on upkeep or replacements of their vehicles. On my return, the check in clerk went to check the car and went straight to the r/h lower bumper and immediately found a scrape on its lowest point. I believe that they knew of this from a previous rental. Unfortunately I did not have a photo of this precise point and therefore charged me €341 damage charge which I will reclaim from my full excess cover purchased through yourselves. I believe that this company are intent on obtaining any extra income from their clients. My daughter also rented a car through them and the same person attempted to extort damage payments from them as well but they had taken an all round video of the car and when shown that, the pulled back from insisting o the payment. I would recommend not promoting rentals through this company if you wish to have satisfied customers. "

" On collecting the car I found that I had to register a credit card with £1000 to cover the insurance or a debit card which would then be blocked for 28 days. As I have neither a credit card or a debit card that I was prepared to be blocked I was stuck at the counter. On contacting AutoEurope I was curtly informed that this information was on the terms and conditions and whilst this is so, almost nobody reads terms and conditions so this was still an unpleasant surprise. I resolved the situation by paying an additional £160 directly to Surprice as a non-refundable deposit/bribe so the car hire cost £160 more than initial hire cost and left me with that much less to spend on the holiday proper. This insurance cost was not shown at any point in the original quotation and this lack of clarity is a definite negative to me recommending your company. I made sure that I had set everything in place prior to the holiday specifically to avoid this situation and to allow me to budget carefully and AutoEurope lack of up-front clarity spoiled thi for me. "

The booster seats where not ready not provided, and we had to pay additional for the GPS which I thought was included in the overall hire of the vehicle as we selected these options when booking the vehicle. So felt like there was a lot of hidden costs. The GPS that we paid for did not work properly. "

" Quick and easy to make the booking, providing a variety of choices in various countries. However, the last experience was by far below our standards. When we hire a car for almost a month in Greece, during summer, we expect that the air-condition will work. Having two kids, a 10 months old and a 5 year old, you expect to have a fully air conditioned cabin. Unfortunately, we have found ourselves travelling with my family at temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius. The outcome of the situation was for our holidays to be compromised, re-arranged and partly postponed. "
" The car's air condition didn't work and the clutch had a huge space until engaging the gears. The clutch problem wasn't a major issue because after a while you could adjust the way to drive it. However, not having air condition in Greece during summer, compromised our holidays. I have picked the car from the airport in the night and when I tested the air-condition I have raised the question (that the air condition might have a problem) with the staff. The staff assured me that is fine, but actually the the problem was there and the not very cold air was coming from outside. My home town (Kastoria) is located 230km from Salonika airport so it wasn't easy to return back and replace it probably. When we went to holidays to Sivota (another 250km away from my home town), the situation was unbearable, especially for the kids, and I called Surprice. I have been told that they can't do anything and if I want to get the car to a garage to fix it. I had a Toyota, so I went to Igoumenitsa city Toyota Service (30km from the place we went for holidays). The mechanics tried to locate the problem and couldn't find it (they said it might have been in the engine). The mechanics have called Surprice and have been told that a week before I rent the car, they infilled with Freon the system (i.e. for me that means there was a known problem from before and it wasn't fixed). After loosing half a day in the mechanics, we left with the air condition working, but with doubts. 3-4 hours later, it seems that the Freon all gone and we had been left in the extreme heat again. The result for our holidays to be compromised, re-arranged and partly postponed. Surprice staff was always polite and helpful. However, what happened with the air condition partly destroyed our holidays. "

" The hired car was a bucket with wheels. The rear brakes locked and made a loud cranking noise anytime the pedal was pressed a little harder than very gently ! Turning left at 80kmph would come with a full car vibration and my husband had forearms like Arnold Schwartzenegger by the time our 1000km trip to Athens was over. Stefanos told us the car had been serviced the week previously but I'm guessing that was a tale or he should have asked for him money back "

" The pick-up and drop off location set out by the firm specified the meet and greet point in Mykonos Port. Nobody we asked at our hotel knew where this was and it did not feature on google maps. We sent a message to the company asking for clarification pointing out that there are 2 ports in Mykonos town and they are separated by several kilometers. Their initial reply was little or no clearer and we suggested that in future they shoud indicate the location with a map. In the meantime asked the hotel to telephone to find out where the pick up point was. The hotel managed to arrange for the car to be delivered to our hotel and to be collected at the end of the hire from our hotel The agent that delivered the car was most apologetic that they were only able to provide a 2 seater Smart Automatic. As we were only 2 people this did not matter, but if we had an additional person it would have been an issue. The car was fine as far as Smart Diesel Automatics go, but I cannot recommend it as the auto gearbox is far from great. Pick up time was agreed at he time of pick up to be 19:30 hrs. The agent arrived about 30 minutes late. "

" Very easy to get a quote, compare prices and make a booking. The only issue was the first quote for excess refund insurance (at time of booking) was around the same price as the actual two week hire cost. (£200 to cover £600 excess) Only later did a more reasonable quote get emailed to me. "
