" We have just received the receipt for our car hire by email. On examining the details, we noted that we had been charged for two sets of car hire excess waiver insurance. We have always had our own separate insurance for this. If the desk personnel asked, we simply informed them that we were already covered. The man on the desk did not ask us and nor did he inform us that we were being charged for insurance. Likewise, we were charged for eight days of congestion charges, SEK 20 per day, despite the fact that we rarely enter the congestion charge zone in Gothenburg. Previously we paid any congestion charges in arrears after the car hire period. Could you please revert with an explanation. "

I therefore go nowhere near Gothenburg its self but I have been charge a Gothenburg city toll of £13.06 plus a non sterling transaction of 0.38. " When I pick up the car, I drove 100 yards and the front bonnet came up so had to pull over and close it. Continued for 5 miles and engine warning light came on, telling me to stop driving. I pulled on to the hard shoulder where I called the number for help. I tried 3 times to be told they couldn't hear me and put the phone down on me. So I had to make my way back to the pick up point driving driving on the hard shoulder, with my speed limited to 30km. When I finely got back and waited for 25 minutes, I explained what had happened to be told by a member of staff " these things happen we have all had a busy day. A very lame excuse. Then was told that I would have to wait because they had no car's ready. This wait went on for 20 minutes. As I said before not a happy customer. Then on 4th day of the holiday my family members car ran out of engine oil. So a day wasted waiting for a person to turn up with oil. "

It was clearly not roadworthy or in a state fit enough for a family to safely take on for a week. Furthermore, the front right tyre would deflate daily, meaning we would have to drive it to a garage twice a day to inflate it back up to safe limits, taking time out of our schedule to do so. When we arrived at our Airbnb the first night, we called Europcar office to notify them of the problem. We then called the recovery team who wouldn't replace the tyre, instead only pumped it up for us. By the morning, it was flat again. The engineer noted there was no spare wheel in the vehicle, nor was there a compressor for us to pump it up - again showing this was not a safe or roadworthy vehicle for a family to be transported in. On return of the vehicle, we informed the service desk that it needs to be taken off the road immediately and repaired, with the proper equipment installed in case of breakdown. When we first received the vehicle, it really looked like it has been in an accident, and when we asked the team for another vehicle, they said they did not have one. In a subsequent report from Europcar, they identified damage to the front right tyre, which might have occurred by us driving on a deflating wheel, which we cannot be responsible for. We initially asked Europcar for another vehicle, which was refused, and later for them to replace the wheel, which was refused also. We explained our ordeal again to the service desk and asked to speak to a manager, who did not want to have a conversation. Instead we received a proxy message saying they "..wouldn't charge us for one of the car seats." This was a terrible experience for my family. We were frightened driving in an unsafe vehicle in a country we didn't know. We found this debacle completely awful, which ruined our holiday experience. "

" I emailed this am in relation to additional charges applied to my credit card Some £105 was charged to my credit card and i have yet to receive a breakdown of these charges . On checking my voucher when i booked the car any additional driver would cost 50sek per day ( 8 days equal 400 sek approx £30 . The car was refuelled 4 km from Arlanda Airport and should have accrued no additional cost for fuelling . No damage was noted at the time of return . I am somewhat at a loss as to how £105 was chsrged to my card . How this is resolved will have a complete bearing on wether i use Europcar in the future . " Accidentally booked an electric vehicle. This was a serious mistake by us as charging stations were hard to find and most required smartphone apps to run them. We avoid using smartphones for several reasons and were therefore excluded from many charging points. Some are programmed to accept card payment which is how we survived (with difficulty). We were annoyed to be charged a 'refuelling fee' by Hertz since charging just prior to a return is almost impossible. Also, the car was not fully charged when we began the hire. The staff at Hertz were very helpful at the outset: attempting to find us an alternative vehicle so no complaints there. "

Something electrical must have happened with the seat adjustment lever. We understand this can happen. We dropped-off the car before hours and left a note with the key. I asked for an email or call to be sure we would not be charged. Nobody got in contact with me. I was disappointed about that. However, I was not charged so at least that part was fair. Otherwise it was a good experience. "

" The pickup was a nightmare. Because it was a public holiday I had to use the Self-service machine. It was behind a door which a notice said would open on scanning a credit card. It didn't work for any of mine (British). Fortunately another customer came to pick up and his Swedish card worked at about the fourth attempt and we got into the lobby. He went first with the machine but right at the end the payment terminal didn't work so he rang the out of hours number on the machine to pay, and said I would have to do the same. I went through a difficult rigmarole on the machine, gave up and rang the number. The lady at the other end said I would have to check in online. She started to guide me through this, but it was not easy as I was using the same phone as I was calling her. She was impatient with me. My British Driving licence number was not in the right format for the dialogue, so I was told to enter ten zeroes. Eventually I rang off and managed to check in through my phone without further guidance. I could not then pay through the terminal, so I had to call her again and pay over the phone. She gave me an express code which allowed the keys to be released. The car was covered in dirt, which I left on for the next customer. Its operating manual was only in Swedish, and I only discovered how to set cruise control two days into the hire. It was pleasant to drive, although we never achieved complete control of the navigation display, which was often half obscured by radio information which we didn't want (we didn't use the radio at all). We didn't use the plug-in facility at all. The return went more smoothly as the desk was manned. However, three days later I am still waiting for my 2000SEK deposit to be returned. N.B. We so nearly didn't have that part of our holiday plan. It was quite distressing. "

" Auto Europe have always been good and a decent price. The hertz guy did try to get me to upgrade my insurance despite me explaining that I had already paid for extra cover with yourselves "
" Firstly I want to say that I used Hertz many times without problems. This time I was given an Opel Grandland Hybrid after booking a Volvo diesel ( or similar) I noticed a warning light which I discovered was tyre pressure issue asking me to reinitialise- no idea how so I tried to find out with the manual but it was only in Swedish. I therefore decided to drive on at a slower pace. Due to this I was stopped by the police who quizzed me as to why I was in Sweden/ where I was going etc. They then breathalised me - my first time ever. I had not been drinking obviously so all ok but a nasty experience all the same caused by my slower driving due to the tyre pressure warning. In my return journey I needed to fill up the fuel - I could not work out how to open the fuel flap. Most embarrassing in the fuel station. I tried YouTube and the Swedish manual. Eventually a kindly local saufcas it's hybrid the tank needed to depressurise before it would open. I eventually discovered a button in the car for this.it almost made me late fir my flight and was very stressful. When I dropped the car off I explained the breathalyser experience and was pretty much met with and oh ok response. Hopefully my next experience is better than this one "

" I'd go as far as to say don't use Hertz at all. After arriving late at night to find a key kiosk that didn't work with a queue round the block in the freezing cold with my 4 year old little girl was a bad start. To then be given a dirty, stained seats basic xc60 was added insult to injury. I don't want to break anyone me heart in Sweden but Volvo doesn't really have premium cars , however maybe, just maybe the V90 could pass for low premium which is what I was told I'd be driving. Instead, after paying a significant amount of money for the most basic car without leather seats as one example and having to put up with stained interior and fairly high mileage car given there was no one there to talk I had to take the car. After calling them the next day to try and have it exchanged they insisted I couldn't do it anywhere other than Stockholm. Two hour drive away. I know that isn't true but given the circumstances we had to keep the car to not interrupt our break. They have now charged my card randomly £4.50 when it was given back with a full tank of fuel. I filled it up 2 kilometres from the airport. If I'd have paid for a shit car then I wouldn't complain but I didn't. I paid for premium and got shit. Simple. "

" Hi, I am not happy with Hertz in Katrineholm at all. First, it is difficult to find as there is no sign which door to enter. Secondly the counter staff did not print any contract even though I clearly stated I do not have a smart phone for use, and only offered to send it as an email. We had to ask were to drop the keys off as we would return the vehicle on a Sunday, and this was not clear were as well. I then went to the car, and as I did not have a contract and she had not told what scratches or issues had already been reported, I had to walk back and ask as I did find several issues. Some of them had not been reported, and all she said was that she had added it to the file. I did not get proof of this, and I therefore felt I had to take photos of the vehicle in case of later disputes. I returned the car one day early, but as Hertz were closed I dropped the key in the allocated place. However, I have since gotten a bill for one extra day. IT IS NOT MY FAULT they are closed during weekends. I have disputed this invoice. Due to the poor customer service, and the extra costs they have put on the bill, makes me not going to use Hertz in the future. "

" All went ok but I was surprised to find that the office was closed when I arrived - They are working reduced hours which I understand but I maybe should have been made aware of this. I have never used to auto pick up before and at first it would not accept my reference number. This was quite stressful until I realised the Auto Europe ref number was different to Hertz. I worked it out in the end but some local Swedes found my chice language quite humerous I think. The car was perfect although after a previous bad care hire experience many years ago I always take photos of the condition before I leave. Once of the wheels was scraped which is fine as I photographed it but i am always expecting a bill for damage not done by me which has happened before (admittedly in Greece) Drop off was ok, I again took photos of the car and dropped the key in a drop off box at the office. I did struggle to park the car for a few minutes as all of the Hertz bays were taken but eventually someone took a car. Admittedly I was slightly early. The cars at Hertz Landvetter have always been top notch "

The machine requires driving licence to be inserted for scanning, no probs, except not approved. No clear information except to contact call centre. 15 mins later get call answered!. Then clarified that machine requires person intervention to approve UK photo licence - no info to that effect. Then have to try and scan passport in front of a camera to verify - 3-4 attempts needed, as it is not a user friendly scanner like airline check in machines! Thank goodness it wasn't raining, or mid winter. Notably other company hire desks were staffed!! "

" Staff were courteous but the car drop off was a disappointment. I had to drop the car off at their mini-sized multi-storey car park. The car had to be dropped off on Level 7. I did not scrape the car but the tight turns and steep up ramps were challenging for the 'Focus' sized car - I was happy I did not have a large saloon or SUV to return. The car was well prepared for me upon collection internally and the heavy duty ice scraper + brush was good. Although vehicle exterior was clean there was some 'previous' damage as listed on paperwork - perhaps this could have a small photo added to paperwork to aid clarification and prevent disputes later? " Flight was delayed and I finally landed about 15 minutes before the time it said the local office was to close. I had checked baggage so I knew I was not going to make it in time before the local office closed. I immediately got on the phone to call them. For 10 minutes I call and there was no one picking up the phone. Each call just went straight to voice mail. Luckily when I got to the local office (which was closed) there was a sign in the window where to find the car keys (unfortunately I couldn't get my 45 minutes of stress back). Then going to the information desk to get my keys the information desk had no idea who Keddy was!!! Luckily I knew Keddy was associated with Europcar so when I said Europcar the gentleman at the Airport Information desk found my keys. Supper stressful experience! "

I was not looking for a refund I simply wanted to explain that we were not allowed to fly and couldn't pick up the car so no one was waiting around for us or wondering what had happened. I was very rudely told that I couldn't cancel within 48 hours as that would trigger a refund and I wasn't entitled to one. I explained that I was trying to help you not me, but was just told that I would effectively be a no show. Maybe it was my emotional state due to the illness of my daughter but I was very upset about the way that I was spoken to and will never use AE again. "

" This is a budget operator and it shows a bit. Check in self service online. They provided not even a basic map. No offer of sat nav. And the location is well away from the airport on a business park attached to a long term car park - that said it was a little (not massively) cheaper than the bigger names which helps in Sweden where renat;s are pricey. The car though was fine, albeit that the petrol was 7/8 full not the 8/8 shown on the form so I ended up losing out slightly. "
