Charge $186.38 when we expected the cost to be no more than $65. The time taken to process at Tampa airport was lengthy. Not enough staff to cope with the number of customers waiting to pick up cars. There was then a second lengthy wait to pick up the child seat. The vehicle was not of a high quality. The interior was very shoddy and not particular clean. The back door of the vehicle driver side never opened during the entirety of the car hire. " No problems with Auto Europe, just disappointed with Alamo, and the fact that we wasted quite a bit of time and money travelling to Orlando airport, and another Alamo agency 10 miles away from our location, as we had been assured we would be able to exchange the vehicle for a matching size of vehicle. We needed the same size, not smaller, as we would then struggle to get our cases etc back in for the return journey from Orlando to Tampa airport. "
" We had an issue after 3 days of the hire period (3 weeks in total) whereby the key fob stopped working. This meant we had to use the key within the fob to open/lock the doors, but when opening would set the alarm off every time. Very frustrating and noisy. We contacted Alamo who directed us to various agents with a view to changing the car. We arrived at 2 separate rental stations and were told they did not have any cars available to match what we had (7 seater), even though we were told on the phone that we would be able to collect a new car. I contacted Alamo management via email and explained the above. No further effort was made to help the situation. We did incur quite a few costs buying batteries in the hope that would fix the problem, but this did not. Also travelling to the car rental agents to hopefully swap the car, we travelled through quite a few tolls which we have now been billed for. Overall it has been quite an annoying experience. "

" Arrived at the counter an hour early and rather than advise that we were early we were met by a very hostile and aggressive man. I told him I would return in an hour rather than pay for an extra days hire. When I returned I told him that I did not want to purchase any additional extras however he signed me up for an additional roadside assistance plan for $200 without getting me to sign or agree to it. He did not bring it to my attention and I only noticed it a few days later. I complained to Hertz Customer Service who investigated and cam back to me a week or so later and voided the charge. "

" Alamo were great on arrival as normal, friendly and helped with getting the right car for us. Drop off was not the same! There was not one luggage trolley at the Alamo drop off (There are four places you can pay for a trolley in the area), we had three piece of luggage each and there was no way we could carry them to the terminal which is in a separate building. We asked for support and who to contact and were basically told not there problem! Then a member of staff came over and I asked the same thing and he went out of his way to help my wife find two trolleys from elsewhere in the building. Otherwise we would still be stuck there now most probably! "

" Their system can only issue rental agreements for 30 days (my booking was for 34) and so they asked me to email them after 30 days so they could email me a new agreement for the remaining days. i did so but when it came it said that the new agreement was from 7/2/25 @ 10:27pm to 7/2/25 to return buy 11:05pm! The actual return date from the prepaid voucher was 11/2/25 @ 8PM. I got on to them again and eventually it was corrected. Then I noticed some charges from Alamo on my credit card. Again i got on to them and they said it was an error and would be refunded. To date they are still showing on my credit card account. Very Stressful and not very professional. "

However after two days the car was making awful noises from the wheels and brakes so I felt unsafe and took it back to exchange it. The second car was better but still had scratches and dents, Sadly I have found with Dollar that their cars are now some of the worst available. I will try and avoid them in future. "

" I would suggest Auto Europe contact Dollar at Tampa International Airport and ask why they charge $75 in exchange for paying $1.75 the cost of a car going over the Sunshine Skyway. I expected a handling charge of possibly up to $20 but I was ripped off having to pay £73.25! "
" on arrival I had to allow a security deposit of $500 to be taken on my credit card, no problem, that was fine with me. however I only got $425 returned to my card. I would suspect they took the $75 dollars for a $1.75 toll charge for the Sunshine Skyway in Tampa which would only accept cash and I had only a card to pay with. The Guy in the toll booth said that dollar would have to pay and they in turn would charge me. $75 is an excessive charge. American toll booth that did not take a card is ridiculous. "

EV charging in the US a pain in the arse, unable to download Shell, EVGo or Electrify America apps to UK phone, the Shell app for the EU is useless in the USA. This was a pain as the majority of DC chargers in the area I was in were on the Shell network. On the plus side, if you could get apps that worked, ChargePoint and FLO, there is an abundance of free chargers. "

" I ordered an INTERMEDIATE SUV. I was told I had ordered an EV which would be a CHEVROLET BOLT ELECTRIC. This car is not an INTERMEDIATE SUV as we couldn't get our cases in the boot, as it's full of batteries. We then had to pay an extra $130 to get a petrol INTERMEDIATE SUV. Having driven around Florida if we had taken the smaller EV car we would have struggled to charge it. As their are little or no charging points and none where we where staying. I would hope to hear back from customer service with support in this matter. "

" The car was only a few months old and in very good condition. It had been cleaned inside but the previous hirer was obviously a smoker of weed! This was not obvious at pickup as the smell of the cleaning covered it. However when we returned to the vehicle after being closed for a few hours or overnight the smell of the weed lingered and was still there when we returned the vehicle. The other more serious issue which could have resulted in an injury to the front seat passenger was an injection needle had been left in the passenger door pocket and not removed when cleaned. This could have resulted in the passenger receiving a stabbing injury if they had put their hand into the pocket without looking. I have a photograph I can send you. I passed this information to the staff member we returned the car to at the end of our stay and they told us to report it to yourselves. This should not have been allowed to happen. "

" Still happy to do business with AutoEurope but unsure about future bookings with Alamo. This was the 1st year we did not get the vehicle category we expected and the vehicle supplied was not in a clean state. Previous Alamo bookings have all been very good. "
" Very disappointed with the SUV provided by Alamo, not up to their normal standard, don't believe the SUV was a Premium SUV and most importantly the inside of the vehicle was not clean nor in good condition. There were many dirt scuffs on the inner roof lining, dirty dashboard area and most noticeably a large brown stain on the front passenger seat. Given the limited options on what was available, we decided to take the SUV (CADILLAC reg EVUJ35). Other than an 5 seater BMW SUV and the larger Chevy's & Fords it was the only other 7 seater offered to us. Disappointed all round but after a long flight one is not perhaps eager to push back & delay our onward travel. Also all of our family travelling in the SUV contracted Covid within the next 3 days, driver first, then followed by the other passengers 1 day later. Whilst we can't be absolutely certain about where we contracted Covid (which somewhat curtailed the 1st week of our vacation), our opinion & fears are that Covid was contracted whilst travelling in that SUV, particularly so given it's poor state of cleanliness throughout. Also seems likely, given all of us were only in close proximity when travelling in the rental from the rental pick up site. Also thought it was unusual that the Alamo representative in the pickup area, knew we had booked a 7 seater Premium SUV yet he called his Enterprise partner over who took us to the Large SUV's in the Enterprise area, not the Alamo area. I appreciate that Enterprise are Alamo's partner but typically their rentals are slightly cheaper with higher mileage. So we can only assume that Alamo didn't have the category we had booked available at pickup. In hindsight should have pushed back & asked to see their 7 seater SUV's which we have used in the past (eg Nissan PathFinder, Toyota Highlander etc) all of which would have been significantly better (space wise inside, cleanliness wise plus less mileage on clock). The Enterprise rep was fairly 'pushy' in getting us to consider taking their Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition SUV's, which whilst big they were actually too big, not very fuel efficient & when we booked where significantly cheaper than what we had actually booked. So all round very disappointed with our Alamo reservation at Tampa this year. Previously have always preferred Alamo & have booked through Auto Europe for many years. "

" Trouble with booking in even though we had completed Alamo's quick booking online a week before. Alamo main office not open so had to use company next door. Queue with no quick booking. Tried using machine booking but this did not work. So had to queue and book in all again even thought all our details had been provided previously on line. My daughter who booked are second car via Auto Europe had so much trouble even though she had also pre-booked in. This was due to a fault on their system and it took 30 minutes., before they could bypass their system to all us to go down to collect our cars. The lady in charge of the desk was not helpful at all. Then after selecting our cars, when we went to drive out their security system would not let her out of the garage. The personnel in the garage did work hard to correct their system fault but this took another 15 minutes before they were unable to release her. My car gave regular warnings on two items mainly regarding the emergency automatic breaking was not operational. I noticed there was a amber light on one of the items when I picked up the car. Both warnings noted that car should go in for service. The steering would go funny at times , which I initially thought was the while lane line automatic response but this also occurred when lane lines were not a factor. I did report this to the lady checking the car on our return. She made a note of all these and noted that we were likely to receive a refund of part of our hire cost. "

" We had completed online check-in in advance, but this wasn't recognised or asked about upon arrival, so we were directed to check-in at the desk. This worked for another member of my party (different booking), but not for me. It took 3 members of staff and a lot of waiting to figure this out. When we were finally directed to the garage, the desk had actually allocated our booking to our other family member, so we had to complete the whole check-in process again at the exit barrier. The whole process was very stressful and resulted in us losing the planned second driver (as they had already left the garage so I didn't have access to their driving license). I was surprised at how unhelpful the desk staff were and didn't recognise the issue earlier as I'm sure this must happen often. The garage staff were super helpful in trying to get us sorted. However they did mention that bookings made with auto Europe can commonly be problematic as they don't really allow two drivers per booking (outside of a spouse). "

The oil service light was on and the steering was veering to one side. There was no other choice of car in the medium suv class and cars of this age should not be offered to customers. The car interior was dirty and had not been valeted. I will never use your group of companies again as you charge a high price for a poor quality car. "

We got a very old Dodge journey with over 54000 miles on the clock, even more dents and scratches and no newer features which help with safety such as warning lights to tell you a car is alongside you. The reversing camera is so blurry it is unusable and the car steering is very heavy. Again no other choice was available. I will not be using dollar or thrifty again as the car choice is non existent and cars are dated. I have used Alamo before and always had excellent service and a number of cars to choose from, most quite new cars. "

" Upon collecting the vehicle, there was a 1.5 - 2 hr long queue due to short staff. Despite numerous requests, I was not told what make/model the vehicle was until the final collection from an abrupt/rude individual, by which point due to the 2hr wait for the vehicle, I did not ask for an alternative vehicle (a decision I regretted for the remainder of the hire period). Vehicle was not appropriate equivalent of a Nissan Pathfinder and should be classed as a people carrier due to low roofline / eye level and front wheel drive only. Whilst driveable, the vehicle was worn out and had the following faults: Wheel wobble from 65mph due to unbalanced tyres (additionally, tyre pressures were low) Gearbox fault with shuddering under acceleration which got progressively worse Noticeable play in steering Poor braking performance I phoned thrifty who advised to visit one of their hire centres. All were closed / uncontactable in the Orlando area, despite visiting 4 locations and phoning 5 times. In order to avoid further ruining our holiday, I did not return to the airport depot and drove the car as was, managing the multiple issues. From start to finish the service and vehicle were a disgrace. Additionally, I have been charged 160 dollars for two toll uses (totalling less than 10 dollars). I did not pay for tolls in advance due to waiting for 2 hrs for a hire car, following a 9hr flight. "

" We arrived at the Hertz desk located within the Marriott hotel Tampa, to be told that car we had booked wasn't available (we required a 7 seat mini van to transport our party plus luggage), we were supplied with a vehicle to get us there and told we would need to go to the desk at Tampa airport to swap over to one we had paid for and that this had been arranged with the counter staff at TPA Named Carlos, we were told NOT to leave the keys in the car and to take them directly to the desk on level 4. On arrival at the desk on level 4, i tried to explain to the Hertz rep what i had been told, he didn't even look at me just said," vehicle exchanges were on L2, I repeated the instructions i had been told by the chap at the Marriott to again be told to go back down to L2. Back to L2 at the desk, nobody knew Carlos! no one knew of our arrival and no vehicles were available!! (Not sure the agent at the Marriott actually spoke to anyone just made out he did). Then my wife heard our name mentioned by another member of staff at the opposite end of the counter, she asked if they knew about our situation, to which she was rudely replied to, stating that we hadn't left the keys in the car we returned, we tried to explain we had been told not to leave them and showed her I still had them with me & would be leaving them here once i had the replacement vehicle, only to be threatened with a $250 fine & instructed to "go put them in the car"! If it wasn't for 2 other employees that went out of their way, we wouldn't have got a vehicle at all, they searched the garage, but couldn't find anything, then I noticed one being returned, asked if that was one of theirs and they rushed over to check, luckily it was and they took it away to be cleaned and it was brought to us within about 40 minutes. Best part of a day of our holiday wasted!! "

" I traditionally rent a car in Florida for 2-3 months a year whilst I visit my boat. I am British so I usually book through a European agency as I wish to benefit from European rental terms. This year I thought I would try Hertz as the supplier. Everything was fine except for an incorrect billing of a rental extension. I wrote to you about this 5 days ago. To shed a bit more light on the matter, I should explain that I was put to enormous inconvenience as my third extension took the rental period over 60 days and I was required to visit a rental station well out of my way to effect this. It appears your are not properly set up for this, but nobody had the forethought to mention it at the time of my second extension. It took Tallahassee more than 50mins to process this as they were very unsure of the procedure. I did point out to them the over billing error but they countered that that was all the computer allowed them to do and I should take it up with Tampa being my return location. This I have done, and in writing. As I haven't had the courtesy of a reply from anyone, I will in the next day or so apply to American Express for a charge back. Neither of us really want this, so may I suggest you attend to the matter with some despatch. " I have always used Alamo but this time I wasn't happy with the experience. Thank you for contacting me for feedback. I tried to contact Alamo and the number came back invalid and email appears unavailable. Very frustrating. The car is not what I booked - it was huge. They clearly had loads of suburban cars to offload to customers. My first issue was at check in, I have never previously been pushed to such an extend to upgrade. How many times we need to say no, when it came to signing I had been upgraded with an additional $20 a day. I said - what's this - I said NO repeatedly! Oh she said let me look at it again... I have a coupon which can reduce the fee to upgrade to $12 dollars. Again I said NO! It was taking forever and endless chats with a supervisor and I said I want what I ordered. In the booking I had a gps included. She created some confusion around the gps being extra and I would need to upgrade to have it integrated and proceeded to say she had a further voucher which would take the fee to $9 a day. I agreed to this. I don't have a problem with agreeing to this but the service in concluding is terrible especially after a long international flight and a distressed disabled child. Not helpful. On collecting the car I was told that it wasn't available and they upgraded for free again for a giant car! It was just too much. On leaving the manager Bree at check out advised if I didn't get on with the car I could change it in the next city. She also advised to change the fuel policy and said to return it empty at their special rate. I believe the lady's name was Bree. On returning the car there was no trace of the note regarding the change in gas charges and I was zapped the $3.55 rate Basically in a nutshell - good quality car but company are dishonest. "

Cars available were generally smaller than the Hyundai Tuscon booked and due to the distance between the rental desk and pick-up point (with lots of luggage) didn't particularly want to go back and challenge for a bigger vehicle - Ford Escape was big enough for us and our luggage. Car was 2017 with 43000 miles on the clock, which is a bit older and higher mileage than I would expect for a rental car but car was in good condition and roomy. During hire, tyre pressure warning light came on. Checked tyres at a garage - everything was fine, so clearly a fault with either the pressure monitors or main unit. I reported it on return to the desk agent at returns - didn't seem overly concerned. "

" Whilst trying to resolve the above issue I rang the UK phone number, shown as a 24hour service on the booking reference, only to be greeted with a recorded message stating the office was only open 8am - 8pm and was currently closed and the line then cut out. I have since learned that it should have automatically transferred the call to the US office which it did not. After more expense through several phone calls to the customer services departments in both the US and the UK, who only work 8am to 1pm UK time - not a lot of help when you are in another country with a five hour time difference! To cut a long story short the excess charges were eventually reimbursed by Alamo once Auto Europe had confirmed that the services I had to pay extra for were included in the package I had purchased. I have never had any problems when dealing with Auto Europe before and hope that this was a one off as it was not a good way to ensure customer satisfaction. "

" I decided not to buy the pre-purchased fuel option. On my way to the airport, I stopped at a petrol/gas station to fill the tank (I had used 1/4 tank of gas/petrol.) However, I could not find the level to release the door to the tank and there was no owners' manual in the car. I even asked someone who was filling up his car next to me at the station to look, and we both spent another 5 minutes looking and couldn't find it. When I returned the car to the airport, I told the agent that I couldn't find the lever and she lifted up a piece of rug beside the driver's seat to reveal the lever. I was then charged $25.54 (£20.87) at checkin (19th December) and then an additional £39.05 charge appeared on my credit card on the same date. I just felt that their processes are maybe not as transparent as they could be. "

It didn't really matter to us as it was just the two of us in the vehicle so didn't have to sit in it. " Tampa airport has now moved the car rental area from immediately outside the arrival baggage hall to the other side of the airport about 1.5 miles away using the shuttle train. You have to go up and down using the lifts with your luggage at both ends. Allow an extra 30 minutes on the return to get back to the terminal. I can not blame Budget for this as all car hire services are now centralised there. "

I would not have accepted to rent the Compact car if I had known it would be a Chevrolet Spark. It is tiny. No room for cases "
" It took me a long time to haggle over having a different car to what was offered - a Chevrolet Spark which I do not consider to be a Compact Car. It is tiny and no room for 2 large cases in the boot (trunk). I was expecting a Ford Focus which they said they didn't have. A Ford Focus is far bigger than a Chevvy Spark which is the worst car I have ever driven. They finally offered me an upgrade at a discounted rate which I reluctantly paid and took a Nissan Sentra which was fine. But it took a lot of negotiating and haggling to do this deal. The Chevvy Spark IS NOT A COMPACT CAR. IT IS AN ECONOMY CAR. "
