" Overall I was satisfied with the process- just as mentioned above some tips for the car hire place to improve the transfer experience for collection and drop off "
" Everything about the car and the hire procedure was well executed, the terms were clear, the staff friendly and helpful. The only downside was the quality of the shuttle service to the airport, as they don't run the shuttles to coincide with pickups or flights so you had to wait a while to be collected and phone them several times. Also as they are a budget and new car hire they are situated quite away from the airport terminal making the trip to and from the airport /car hire venue a little longer than you expect . This needs to be highlighted to customers so they can allow more time to do the drop off in order to arrive in a timely fashion for flights. The process for phoning north contacting the shuttle service was also not made very clear to the customer if booking through auto Europe - so I had to ask another car hire from desk about pick ups- Also it was a bit of a unorganised process of people waiting for the shuttle - ie not in order of arrival and some people who had dropped off later getting into the very small shuttle buses before others who had been waiting a long time. "

Upon return of vehicle accused me of scratches, even though I pointed these exact scratches out when picking up the vehicle and the staff took loads of photos. " From the time we arrived at the office to the time we finally got underway was approximately 1.5 hours. After doing paperwork it took another 30 minutes before a car was brought around to us. 2 other customers got their cars before us when they arrived after us. The car finally arrived and looked like it had been parked under a tree or bush for weeks. Covered in a lot of foliage and other mess. We then discovered that ants had made a nest in the roof trim where roof bars would go. This then took an age to sort out and was only resolved, we thought, when the decided to wash the car, which it needed anyway. Little did we know but that did not clear the ants out as we discovered the next morning. Considering we were an hour and a half away we could not be bothered to waste anymore time of our holiday. We will not be using that company again "

Service is not clear at point of sale with whom rental company will be, details of the rental agreement are left with the rental company such as additional taxes which are charged extra after initial sale on AutoEurope website even though AutoEurpoe do not disclose the value. Locating value of deposit is not straightforward, having a credit card with in excess of £1200 available for deposit should mean telling customers upfront - how is that acceptable in this day an age. Was not clear on pick up arrangements and was mis leading with airport pick up. Resulted in waiting 30minutes, only to then call Tangerine who then said someone was on their way even though we had a booked pick up time. I do not believe Auto Europe scrutinise or audit rental companies enough as Tangerine are not fit for service with sly underhand tactics to scam more money out of clients. "
" Not great! Firstly long waiting time at Airport, no effort made to communicate. Was not clear at time of booking that the service was collection and then a 15min drive to Tangerines station. Not a problem if made clear and not Tangerines fault, but delayed our time. Arrival to Tangerines station in Faro was absolutely fine, clean well presented rental company. However having read many bad reviews on line I was apprehensive about what service i would receive. We were greeted in a friendly manner and our advisor was polite. However, after finally locating the deposit required which was £1250 hidden in the small print, Tangerines customer service advisor told me it was £1500! I told him no it was £1250, to which he then said very awkwardly yes £1250. I then questioned what made up the amount to which 15mins of confusing conversation was had where multiple different figures were made up, none actually added up to the total amount. Then we were told there were additional taxes to pay which was not made clear, but after researching it was a common thing for Portugal for the toll auto pay, however why isnt this cost included in the rental as its a requirement!!! I know why so they can show up as the cheapest option, which is falsesly inaccuarte and counts as fraudulent misrepresentation. Then we were told the deposit could only be taken on a credit card, not debit. This was not made clear by Auto Europe so they must take some of the repsonsiblity but who has £1250 readily available in credit? ridiculous. Because of this, we were immediately forced into an upsale. Classic tactics. This involved telling us if we paid an extra 260 euros they wouldnt need the full deposit amount - surprise surpirse! This apprantly was the top insurance package, so good infact we didnt need to worry about any damage to the car!!! So we are in the middle of nowhere, trapped without any choice but to accept the upsale to continue with our holiday. Again i asked how the 260 is made up and once again multiple figures were shown that made no sense mathmatically. Finally because we chose (had no choice) the differnet package a smaller 150 euro deposit would be required. Well guess what, they can take that with a debit card!!!! Absolute scam and digusting tactics to obtain higher revenue by misleading and mis selling what service they are providing. Once the money was transfered I was catergorically reassured by Tangerines advisor that on return of the vehicle the deposit would be refunded within 10 working days, infact it might be quicker depending on my bank. WIth all the fluster I noticed after leaving portugal that on the paperwork provided to me, there was no information on the 150 deposit which again is fradulant and leaves me to believe its part of the scam. Ok so we go to the car, nothing wrong at first glance with the car, it was as expected - clean and tidy, however we drive off and immediately i notice it feels weird or soft on the road so i pull into the nearest garage and check the tyres, they were all on average 16psi below recommendation which is dangerous and clearly means this isnt checked between hires by Tangerine. So we return the vehicle at the end of our stay, easy check in procedure, other than that i was asked to sign a tablet which i assumed was proof of return or vehicle condition however no information was provided and i had no option to sign a blank page. Not great confidence that i would receive deposit! I was aware at the point of sale from Tangerine after they explained that any charges from the toll would be deductable, so to counter that we avoided all motorways and main roads. Again this should have been clear and also inlcuded on AutoEuropes page not just a vague comment. When we returned the vehicle there was no interaction with staff or any means to see if this toll charge had been activiated. All in all I would never use Tangerine again nor recommend their services, you are fooled into thinking you are getting a great cheap deal and what started off as around £40 hire ended up being over £300. Thats not an acceptable increase. Furthermore at the time of this review, I still have yet to receive my deposit back. After communicating this to Tangerine direct I have been informed it is a pre authorisation issue and can take up to 30 days - this was never ever mentioned. I have since querried with my bank. "

" Upon arrival at Tangerine I was initially asked what time I would need to drop the car off when returning it. As we had a flight to catch i said it would be 7am. I was told that they would not be open at 7am, and as they had no key safe (as all other car hire companies do), I was told I had to pay them 55Euro to have someone available to receive the car and provide the shuttle service service to the airport. After that, I was then told that I had to pay another 27Euro for the "hire" of the gadet to automate the Toll payment. I have never had to pay separately for this before. I was then told that "optionally" I could pay them 138Euro as insurance for if the car broke down and I needed to be recovered! This is outrageous, and I declined - despite the hardsell and the waring that if I di break down I would have to cover the cost of well over 150 Euro. These are all complete scams designed to bump up the cost. The car I was given was filthy and was covered in scratches and dings - I had to spend at least 30 minutes with a member of their staff to catalogue and agree every single scratch and scrape! I was then told I would receive a copy of the contract and vehicle condition report by email. I have yet to receive anything from them, despite having sent at least two emails asking for the docs. A very frustrating experience - I will never use Tangerine again "
