" Tried to get the car at the Hertz counter at Verona Airport 4th june evening but was refused since they said i needed the plastic licence. I showed them the paper licence, and also a photo of my plastic licence on my phone, along with an out of date plastic licence, but was told i needed the current plastic licence. Called your UK support number but i guess since it was 6.15pm BST, call was transferred to your USA office. All I wanted was for the name on my reservation to be changed to my wife's with all other details remaining the same and Hertz/Thrifty would then give me the car. BUT Your USA office informed me that they were unable to do this and that i should talk to/communicate with UK office, which i did immediately by sending an e-mail. Hence I could not get any car from Hertz/Thrifty and even though I went to a couple of other rental companies there, no one had an automatic car to rent for my wife. So, i had to get a taxi to the hotel and spend money on taxis etc for the next 5 days to get around Lake Garda and surrounding areas Mr Abhi Budhwar "

" Check out and drop off were very efficient. However I unfortunately had a tyre puncture on the second day. I had to change the wheel myself, and drive to the nearest Hertz Office (Monopoli). I then had to drive to a separate garage to check if the type could be repaired (it couldn't) and then had to wait on a mechanic to drive us back to the Hertz Office where I then had to wait for a replacement car to be provided. This office only had Panda cars available which was not big enough for our group hence I had to then drive to Bari to pick up a larger car. Altogether this took up a whole day of my holiday and it appeared that the overall service from Thrifty/Hertz was disjointed/unstructured/not customer friendly. "

" The only thing I don't like is that you either show each rental company being "at airport" or "shuttle service". Sometimes "at airport" still involves a shuttle ride to the other side of the airport, while an off-airport shuttle may be no further. What is important to me is where their desk is in the first place - in Terminal or not - regardless of whether a ride is required after doing the paperwork. This can affect the pick-up time I book for - that is, 10 minutes or an hour after landing. "

I was told I could not rent or drive the car without a photographic licence. The booking I made through auto Europe made no mention of a photographic licence being required. I had to cancel the booking. I rebooked with Avis who told me the document driving licence and passport were all that was needed and rented a car to me. Thrifty refused to refund the money I had paid for the booking. "

" When we arrived at Milan Malpensa we waited 1hr 40minutes just to collect the car. There was no where to sit and wait and the desk area was very busy with numerous other tired and frustrated customers waiting to be seen. There is a ticket system and it seemed that for every five or six Hertz booking there was one Thrify customer seen. The desk staff seemed pretty relaxed with no need to speed things along, chatting and faffing in between seeing customers. We couldn't really understand the need for such a long wait as when we finally got to our turn the process of getting our key took very little time really. We were given a print out that highlighted existing damage on our allocated car. On checking the vehicle we found numerous other scratches and marks that hadn't been noted. We returned to the Hertz desk to report this and ask for an amended damage slip only to be told that the person on the desk was "too busy" to view the car and that we should mark any damage on the existing slip with a pen and take photos. We didn't have any issues on returning the car but did worry during the trip that we would be held responsible for the damage that was on it before we were given the keys. Despite returning the car on the Monday evening the deposit hold wasn't lifted from my card until the Thursday and to date I have not received the email confirmation promised that the car was returned as expected and with no damage. Owing almost entirely to the excessive wait time on collection I would not recommend Thrify at Milan Malpensa to anyone. The car itself was fine and the return process was quick. "

" Excellent quality car. Thrifty in Naples Airport is not in terminal as advertised. We had to queue over an hour to get shuttle transfer. Got a smaller car than booked. Specifically booked Insignia Estate with 572 litre boot (or similar) as had four people and a lot of luggage. Wanted it all out of sight in the boot. The car we got was Renault Kadjar with boot only 472 litres. Staff said they are in the same group but the small boot meant we had to have luggage left on display which isn't advised in Italy. "

During the journey a noise manifested on the offside front wheel The following day when traveling to a shoot the noise began to get worse. I called the number on the paper work and was informed that the car would be picked up in 45 minutes from the car park I was at A pick up truck arrived to take the car with no replacement I called the office again and was called back and informed that I would have to get a taxi back to Bari airport where I could get another car. This would be a three hour round trip and the cost of the taxi would be my responsibility After an hour of telephone conversations I said that I would go to Monopoli and exchange it in the morning. This stopped my afternoons photoshoot from taking place and the trip to Monopoli meant that the mornings work would also be lost In the morning we went to Monopoli and exchanged the vehicle and the team there were very nice However I went from a return empty to a return full contract My complaint is that your team were happy to leave me stranded in Alberobello without transport Made no attempt to find a solution as it was me that made suggestions how to remedy the situation The car was faulty and your policy seems to be get the car and leave the customer to sort themselves out I lost a day of work when if you had bought a replacement all this aggravation could have been avoided "

" The car had done almost 85000. The engine sounded old and abused, although it lasted the journey. There were lots of scraps and bumps on the car that weren't listed. I had to go back in to show the staff. They jotted a quick note on my sheet only saying 'graffiti' and said it's fine and let me go without taking it for their own records. There was no problem at check out as they didn't really check the car, they didn't seem to mind that it was in poor condition with lots of miles on the clock, but I was worried for the entire time I had the car due to it's condition. It also said on the listing that the rental would be on the airport. This was really important to us as we have a small baby and luggage to carry, however a transfer was required to get to the car. The transfer vehicle was tiny, with no queue system. We ended up not getting on the first or second transfer as people pushed in and the van was too small (10 people?). In the end we just walked, dragging multiple luggage items and carrying a baby. "

We had an upgrade on the car but no correct paper work as they gave the paper work for the car originally planned. I was just given a car that was 7/8 full. All in all a shocking experience and I expected better from Thrifty. "

" It took 3 hours to collect the car which is entirely unacceptable. We arrived at 10 in the morning to find 30 people ahead of us in the queue. It took 2 hours to get to the desk and a further hour before we left. The desk staff did their best but were totally overwhelmed by the task dealing with 300 rentals that day. They were also dealing with Dollar Rentals in addition to Hertz and Thrifty. The car we were eventually offered was a lower grade than the one booked, but on arrival in the car park we found the correct model parked there. The explanation given was that it hadn't been cleaned and there was insufficient room in the car park for the number of vehicles they were dealing with. As we had waited so long we decided it was worth an extra 30 mins to get the vehicle we had booked. The desk staff did everything they could to help but their task was impossible, when we returned to the airport I noticed the queue was 60 customers, our experience was clearly not a one off. "

The pick up was confusing because the cars are not parked under thrifty but wherever there is space so we could not find the car and there was no staff and staff from other rental car companies would refuse to help. We were told to put the car at 4 different places and got kicked out every time from those places. We had to find alternative flights which meant that we were unable to pick up the car until we touched down via Alitalia at about 9 pm on Saturday. We were aware that we needed to contact you to let you know that we were going to be delayed. We tried. I made in excess of 56 calls to your Ashford number to notify someone (other members of our parties tried as well) and the Hertz number in Brindisi (the thrifty number of the web site just did not work) and throughout the 11th August as we travelled. Your Ashford number always put me on hold until it rang off. Hertz did not answer, ever, although twice, we did get an answer message. Details of this, along with phone records will be attached to my separate letter. We did eventually get through to an Auto-Europe representative, who was very helpful and logged the situation on the system at about 16.35. When we arrived at the Hertz/Thrifty counter we were told that our car had gone...fair enough...but that there was a car for us..great. However our whole contract had been cancelled and we had to take up another one. When we complained that we had paid for two weeks already and now were in effect paying twice for the hire of the car (this second one without discounts) - the lady behind the counter said that this was our problem to take up with you. We pointed out that a representative from Auto-Europe had noted our travel situation on the system she just shrugged and said there was nothing. We said we had tried to ring she shrugged, disagreed that the Thrifty number did not work and when we showed her the number on the website she said that it had been changed long ago and that it was nothing to do with her. This is an unacceptable practice and I hope that you have not paid any money for our initial contract to Thrifty otherwise they will have received double payment for that hire period. "

" On arrival at Milan Malpensa we discovered we were in a queue which took 3 hours to sort. Apparently there is a system whereby people who have booked direct with either Hertz or Thrifty (who were in the same shop space) get priority over those who have booked through a 3rd party - e.g. Auto Europe. Appalling! On receiving the vehicle, it wasn't the car that I had ordered, but instead a van where the seats didn't drop properly meaning that it was exceptionally difficult to fit our bike boxes and suitcases in. No other car was available needless to say. The vehicle hadn't been cleaned properly - there was dust and ash all over the dashboard and the car smelled badly of cigarettes. Fortunately the receiving staff on our return to Milan were helpful. I will NOT recommend Thrifty or Auto Europe to anyone, and will instead go direct to a car company in future to alleviate what was an excessive delay. "
