Despite this they told me the puncture was treated as an accident . I spent a lot of time trying to explain that getting a screw in a tyre was an accidental puncture but they would not listen. " We were delayed by almost 5 hours and tried to ring Auto Europe and got a message saying the office was closed. When I booked the car hire I spoke to yourselves and was told that you were open until 20.00 hrs We rang between 19:00 hrs and 20:00 on several occasions and you were not open. We then rang the Hertz number on our voucher to advise of our delay and the phone was never answered despite the voucher indicating that the Hertz desk was open until midnight. We also had family in Portugal constantly ring the numbers for Hertz and out of hours number for Auto Europe and the phone was never answered. When we landed at 03.30 am we had to wait in the airport until 06.00am until the Hertz desk opened and we were then taken by bus to the Hertz pick up point only to be told that our car was no longer available and it had been given to another customer as we had not called them to say we were going to be late. As you can imagine I was not happy as we had a record on our phones of the numerous call. We were then offered another vehicle slightly larger however had to pay an additional amount for this. As we had been travelling a long time with a delay we had no alternative but to pay the amount. I spoke to the guy in Hertz about our numerous attempts to call and he asked me what numbers we had been calling. I showed him the voucher and told him we had rang every number on the voucher including an out of hours number for Auto Europe which was supposed to be open until 22.00 hrs and he told me all of these numbers were incorrect and he gave me the number I should've been calling. "

When I need to phone, the response time is always fast with a minimum number of "call centre" options and wait times. My main grumble about all car firms is the frustratingly long processing time at pick-up. Surely Auto Europe could help resolve this by providing information like phone number, home address and even passport details at the time of booking to save having to do this at the pick-up desk. I would be interested to hear your views on this. "

" The booking process and the vehicle were fine, but the shambles at Lisbon Airport will put me off ever renting a car there again - although Europcar, Avis, Alamo etc were definitely more efficient at moving their waiting clients along. All the queues were completely unacceptable for a major airport. Hertz/Thrifty were easily the worst and there were a lot of very unhappy people - with good reason. We do not blame Auto Europe for the lack of organisation by Hertz/Thrifty, but we will never book an Hertz or Thrifty vehicle again. However, Auto Europe should be made aware of the dire situation at Lisbon Airport (which I understand is not unusual). "

I was ready to pay the excess by any means necessary but all was refused including the provision of the car I had booked even though the insurance was added as an extra service in addition to the car. I ended up lossing all the money I have paid for both services. the insurance as I could not supply with acredit card and car for what seems no reason as the support is yet to supply me with wording of the terms and conditions of thrifty that allows thrifty to not supply me with a car when not having the added extra (non-mandatory) insurnace on the car. On returning the car at the end of hire the manager agreed that no charges would be made and the credit car block would be removed. " Prior to departure received Email saying to speed things on arrival please supply some additional information, however no matter what version or combination of my name or the reservation number or the booking number would your system recognise me or my reservation so my time was totally wasted trying. " The lady at the desk was notably uncommunicative, no eye contact, no warmth, robotic. In complete contrast to the guy at the next desk who was conversing with his customer (non Portuguese speaker)most amiably. On line I had requested GPS which said would be sorted at the Airport. She was unaware of this, did switch the car, no mention of charge, GPS was on the car but in the event was in German so totally useless. On return home bank debited £ 90+ which I assume was for GPS really have no idea but overall just seems underhand and opportunistic to increase revenue. "

" Collection from Montenegro - I tried to find out before we left (Yourselves and Thirfty) how to get there from the airport, I expected some sort of transfer but there's nothing. The Hertz staff were helpful and we ended up getting a lift with the car cleaners ! We picked up a second car on the Saturday that my wife drove, again booked from Montenegro. This time the depot was closed, it was some sort of public holiday in Faro. Amazing that no one told us on Thursday when we talked about getting a second car on the Saturday ! Had to join the queue at the airport and effectively wasted 90 mins. "

" Thiftyas it says is cheap. Poor service,poor car. Returning staff (Hetz) was rude and extremely unhelpful. There was one lady checking all the cars in, which were many, whilst 3 men sat in collection area doing nothing apart from one of them being unhelpful and rude. It was not appreciated. "
" Vehicle had so many scrapes it looked very bad as an advert for thirty. Took ages to get vehicle . Vehicle not very clean,was missing rear parcel shelf.......however they did find one. Looked like no one had checked the tyre pressure for ages. "

" Upon calling your services the next day, because although you say you have a 24hours telephone service, we couldn't get hold of anyone until the next morning, and even then the response is was that you can only do anything at the end of the contract, which is completely ridiculous and pointless. " Had a lovely welcome after a very early start which was lovely. We were upgraded to a larger car which to be honest made some of our driving around Maderia a bit stressful as a smaller sized car is easier for the multi storey carparks and parking in general. However, it was a lovely gesture and all passengers were thrilled. The GPS was not as easy to use as we had thought it would be so we resorted to using our google maps route finder on our phones. Would whole heartedly recommend using AutoEurope and Thrifty for quality and service at both pick up and drop off. "

" We were conned into an upgrade by Luish which turned out to be a smaller, under powered C1 automatic. We thought the additional cost was €50 NOT €315. He even answered the direct question, twice saying it was €50. We hire at Faro normally four times a year and will never use Thrifty/Hertz again. Luish was slick, very speedy but a total con man. "

" Counter staff were pleasant, efficient and did not push too hard to sell extras! However, they did not point out that that damages, etc., were now reported by mobile phones. We arrived late and not possible to properly assess car and scratches, etc., only noted the next morning. Fortunately, we were staying only 2 kms away and able to return to your office the next morning to confirm all had been correctly reported. (Of course, it would have helped if we checked our phones more regularly!!) So, just a minor moan but one that could have been difficult/expensive. "

" We were ever so happy with the service and the car. We've read lots of horror stories about renting cars and were a bit nervous but we couldn't have been any happier. We used Thrifty but it turned out to be Hertz, who serviced us at the Lisbon airport. We arrived late because of a delay but was surprised we got the car we were promised straight away, it was instant, so quick. Car was brand new, there were few dents and scratches that were already marked on their system. We returned the car, there was no problem at all. We thought it will take some time to return it but it was all done in 5min. We are very, very happy and will continue to use Thrifty in the future. "
