" We had pre-booked and prepaid for our car rental and also provided our arrival time. When we arrived at the thrifty car rental desk at Toronto airport, after a long flight, we were told that there were no cars available and that we would have to wait for about an hour. An hour later they presented us a compact SUV car and proceeded to say that this is the standard SUV category which we had booked when the website clearly showed that it was the smaller size. We were travelling with two kids each of them having their car seats and two large suitcases and 2 small carry-ons along with a pram which was impossible to fit in a compact SUV. For those reasons we had booked a standard SUV which was supposed to be a Toyota RAV4 or similar. When we rejected the compact SUV, we were told that we would have to wait for another hour before we could get the car. Even after the long wait, we were provided smaller cars so we continue to wait until a standard SUV category car appeared on there lots. After about 3.5 hours of wait we finally managed to get a car which was the category that we had booked. The waiting part was completely unacceptable especially after a long international flight and having booked the car weeks in advance. Our misery did not stop upon getting the right size car after 3.5 hours, as soon as we left we realized that the wheels on the car were unbalanced and the whole car vibrated while on highway speeds. We felt very unsafe to drive around in a car like that however we were on a holiday and could not waste any more time waiting for another car to appear which could take hours. Hence we proceeded to keep the car for the entire rental duration but we have been completely dissatisfied by the service and the attitude thrifty rental desk has exhibited. "

" In short the customer service was terrible and really unwanted after arriving from a long haul flight with the family. After a very long wait, the Avis rep attempted to impose a smaller class car than booked; without explanation I was asked to accept and sign for a compact class when we'd booked a full size / standard class. I had to insist that we wouldn't accept a compact due to our luggage and four adult size passengers. Avis appear to be understaffed, it took 50 minutes from arriving at their counter to finally receive keys for the car. The manager at Hertz refused to allow us to add the second driver for free, and kept insisting that we cancel the reservation with AutoEurope and rebook with them which is not something we wanted to do. As AutoEurope, I highly recommend you speak to Hertz as effectively they are asking customers to cancel their reservations and rebook with them. "

I continued to drive slowly and anxiously to my destination about 80 miles away. I contracted Thrifty Dollar and was given a case number 23022339. There was no chance to exchange the car as the nearest Dollar outlet was the Airport. After using thd car very little during my stay and Before returning to the Airport I had the wheels checked got bearing noise but was told the tyres were and possible balancing were the the likely cause. I did not use the highway to return the car but stayed on slower roads. I reported my concerns at the airport but I'm not sure if anyone was bothered. "

" Dollar gave me an electric vehicle which was brilliant, it was a Volvo xc40 recharge. Unfortunately I had to hand it back after a few days because I couldn't charge it; Canadian charging operators would not accept my UK payment details. All the shops and restaurants accepted my money! Dollar then gave me a vehicle that was not to the standard I had paid for which I accepted because I was under time pressure. To be fair to Dollar this may have been the first available vehicle rather than them pulling a fast one. The car did the job. "

So I am helping out by returning the car nearer to its home state. Fee should only apply if it's a local car they have to pay a driver to get back!! " I hired a vehicle from Toronto Airport on the 23rd of August for 11 days till 3rd of September, rental record: 924939956 for a Toyota thunder registration pr69957. On the third of September while returning to Canada from Detroit, our tyre became flat on the motorway 401 eastbound side, at 10:00 (AM). We tried to use all the numbers provided to call for roadside service that was originally paid for, but no one picked up. The numbers I tried calling were: 1-877-466-0992 1-800-654-5060 1-800-847-4389 1-877-608-5784 Then a friend from Toronto called in my place and they did pick up on one of the numbers, and informed them of our situation, and they provided a reference number and a number to call, in order for them to obtain our location. The reference number was 0230331661, and the number we were given to call was 8006545060. I tried calling this number but received no response after attempting to call for an hour. Then the police came, and they also attempted to call the number provided, for more than half an hour, but also failed to get a response. They told us that because we are not safe on the motorway, the police called a tow company to take the car to the nearest tyre repair place. After 40 minutes, the tow company came and said the tyre needed replacing as the rods were damaged. As we had 4 of us in the vehicle, the tow company said they will not take any passengers, so they called a taxi to take us with the tow truck to the Tyre place, which was Costco in windsor, walker road. The tow company then charged us 415.84 Canadian dollars, and the taxi charged us 150 Canadian dollars, and Costco charged us 12.42 Canadian dollars to swap the wheel with the spare. We lost 4 hours in total and I would like my expenses to be reimbursed, which totals out at 578.26 Canadian dollars, which I paid that should have been covered by the roadside policy that was originally paid for. "

" Auto Europe were able to offer a very competitive price compared to many other rental services for Canada and I was very happy with the process. The car I booked was the car I drove for 2 weeks. I chose Auto Europe based on their positive reviews (other companies fare less well when you dig deeper). We are season car renters when abroad so know the possible pitfalls. Auto Europe instructions etc were all very clear. I can't comment on customer service as I did not need to contact them, the rental went smoothly. "

" After spending over 2 hours getting through the amazingly awful Pearson airport, there was no signage to the Avis garage and even airport aids could not help. Had to get directions from other car rentals. Our car had to be delivered from another terminal and was not right when it arrived so was offered another model. Nice car but so tired by this time that forgot to check it had Navigation which it did not. Had a very heavy shower of rain a couple of days later only to find the drivers windscreen wiper was badly split making visibility terrible and dangerous. Forecast good so didn't get this sorted immediately. Constant warnings displayed saying service long overdue and oil change required. Took the car to the Avis office in central Mississauga and was asked to take the car to a garage round the corner to have the wiper blade replaced and the oil changed. On returning to the garage the oil change had been completed but the wiper blade could not be sourced. Returned to the Avis office and the very helpful young lady offered us another car but I had to return to the garage to fill up with gas before the exchange could take place. The replacement car was fine. The drop of at Pearson took more than half and hour with only one car in front of me as Avis systems were out of action and nobody seemed to know what to do. I have since received a review request from Avis but this continuously buffers and does not allow you to complete it. "

" we arrived at Toronto late in the evening and struggled across to the Avis office at terminal 3 to be greeted by a locked office and a sandwich board type sign, stating that the office was closed until further notice and to go to terminal 1, this resulted with struggling back to terminal 3 then struggling to find how to get to terminal 1 which involved a shuttle train, we waited a good 30 minutes to be seen at the desk, and the desk guy just said, "go through that door and the car will be brought round, a guy subsequently drove the car around which was not the car ordered but a much smaller VW Golf, handed over the keys and made his way away from us as quickly as he could, no vehicle hand over or walk round inspection of the vehicle, or explanation of any features such as seat adjustment how to start the car (brake pedal had to be depressed in order to start the car, no explanation of the auto cut out cut in of the throttle at idle, no help whatsoever also car was covered in minor dents and scratches, we had been through a nightmare flight stuck on the runway at Gatwick for 4 hours and with problem after problem, so having to go back to the desk to get the guy to check the car condition was the last thing my wife wanted to do, as she was stressed already so I spent the rest of the holiday worrying that there would be some attempt to blame us for the pre-existing damage, this didnt transpire, but a simple (NORMAL CAR HIRE) hand over rather than dump and run would have negated the stress, also the smaller car had a tiny boot which wouldnt evel take our suitcases luckily we were travelling with only two occupants, so rammed the suitcases into the far from capacious rear seat area, in short I would never use Avis again as everything except the drop off fell well short of a NORMAL CAR HIRE experiance "

" Upon arrival at Toronot we were told by the Avis check in rep that we couldn't hire the car as my licence card had expired. I hadn't been aware of this not having been reminded by the DVLA and not having been asked at any point during the hire process for the date (this should surely be part of the process to avoid issues). My wife had her licence but we were told we couldn't use it as it was a different name to that on the hire agreement. We were told by Avis that only AutoEurope could resolve this but they were closed at the time. After an emergency hotel booking, costing £200+, I rang AutoEurope the next day only to learn that the company was trying to profit from this misfortune saying that I would be breaking contract to change the name. Obviously AutoEurope could have changed the name to my wife but you have set up terms and conditions to prevent this for no obvious reason. I was told it would cost me £500 plus to change, setting up a new agreement. Thankfully, I went back to the airport and encountered a manager at Avis, absent the night before, who permitted the change to my wife's name straight away. All in all a dreadful experience and, unless I am compensated by AutoEurope, it is my intention, when I have the time, to use every available platform to warn customers away from using your company "

" Disasterous experience from the moment we arrived in Canada! We chose Avis because we were assured it was I the terminal building. My husband had a knee op only a few weeks before we travelled so the Avis desk being in the arrival terminal was important to us. Much to our despair it was in terminal 1 we arrived in terminal 3! To get between terminals to had to use lifts escalators and trains. This put tremendous strain on our otherwise smooth arrival into Toronto. We had the first car for 5days and there were problems with the alarm and the boot did not close. We had to phone a local budget rental office who were helpful in giving us a second car but this was most definitely not the car we would have chosen. It was old, had high mileage and was dirty. After only two days and little use of the second car we dashboard told us a tyre had lost pressure. After putting air in the tyre it lost pressure over night. The following day we were due to fly home so phoned Avis again. They told us we could basically abandon the car and upon asking how we would get to the airport we were told "make your own way". Plus they said they'd charge us for picking up the 2nd car! What part of customer service do they not understand? We managed to contact the budget office who had given us the 2nd vehicle who said if we could get the car to them they would supply us with a 3rd car! We were 1.5 hrs away from the rental office with a car with a slow puncture and the spare tyre underneath the car totally inaccessible for us! We had to get family to follow us at great expense down the interstate to ensure we got back to the budget office. Again at our own expense. We have incurred time and great expense trying to get these problems sorted. I would like to speak to management regarding this please asap so please phone us. "

" When travelling to Canada in the past, I have always been impressed by the professionalism and courtesy by airport staff and officials compared with those in Europe. Not this time! The Avis staff I spoke with were dour and unhelpful and even when I insisted my second driver should be at no extra cost, the response was that I had to pay up "because the supervisor said so". Not good enough in my opinion. "

The gentleman wasn't helpful, he stated that as I missed my flight my car hire wasn't guaranteed (even though I had paid for it). He said I would get an email confirming whether or not they could guarantee the flight - he wouldn't confirm when I would get the email and I still haven't received it. He 'put me through' to Avis but all I got was an automated service - I couldn't speak to a person. By the time I arrived at Toronto airport it was 20.40 and I had been awake for over 20 hours and I was in tears - I couldn't face an argument with Avis (as far as I was aware my car had not been guaranteed) so I phoned my brother to pick me up. It took 2 days of headaches to get over the experience and by then I decided to wait until my return to the UK to talk to Auto Europe. I will be requesting call recordings for both calls with the agent. I want my money back "

" I thought I had got a good deal, but the overall cost ended up being higher and also I found it confusing the work out the differences when the prices were translated into the different currencies. This can be misleading and confusing about whether you are paying the origional price or something else. "
" There were alot of hidden costs in my opinion, it ended up being more than quoted as I added extras which turned out to be quite expensive. At the desk there was alot of paper work to agree to which I didn't get chance to properly read what with being in a rush, just getting into the airport etc. I ended up just having to agree to everything without clearly understanding it. The process took a while due to communication delays between desk and car storage staff, I had already let them know I wanted a car with GPS yet nothing suitable was ready at the time we arrived, though we had told the company in advance our arrival time. I was asked about various car models, whether I was happy with those and having no knowledge of cars jsut had to agree despite having no clue what these cars were. Thankfully we ended up with a good model, only slighter larger than I expected and the GPS was perfect. Although I beleive we did have to pay extra for the larger car, which I do not agree with as you should have made sure what I wanted was available at the price already agreed rather than end up having to upgrade at my own expense. The returning of the car was very fast, I was not sure of the procedure, this being my first time hiring a car and I felt I should have been allowed more time to check the final condition in an area with better lighting. I wanted to take photos of the car but forgot due to feeling I had to rush to [INVALID] baggage and move along. "

" The booking with autoeurope was simple however the request to have a grand jeep as it was advertised on the web was never confirmed. Well the rest at Abis Toronto was a disaster. "

The first car provided after waiting 45 min and it was smelly, full of cigarette smoke and a damaged portable sat nav. We had to wait another 45 min + for another car which was also dirty in the inside, however by that time we had lost our patience with Avis and decided to accept the second car since we had a 5 hours drive which meant that we arrived at our destination after mid night. The staff did not have all the details of our insurance and asked if we wanted to pay for comprehensive insurance. I had to provide my print out for them to understand that our insurance was complete. "

" We collected the Dodge Grand Caravan from Toronto Pearson Airport without having to wait very long. The counter manager was polite and efficient. The caravan only had 14,200 km on the clock. The trim level was very high with GPS, heated and power front seats, heated steering wheel which was a luxury in the cold weather during the two week rental period. We did not have to pay for anything additional, extra driver, waiver to excess, free tank of fuel were all included, just as the contract. " Size of car should be more detailed as when arrived at Thrifty they offered the alternative to the original booked which was much smaller so necessary to up grade.was pleased they offered Spouce insurance at no extra cost otherwise the service and the upgrade can was excellent.Would rent from them again as the same problem occurred when renting Ithink via yourselves from Budget around last August 2014 in Toronto Airport I had to up grade "
