It seems to be all about Spain this summer! And why shouldn’t it be? The southern Spanish coast is the best place to be for a holiday or even a weekend break to catch a few of those warm rays!
Better not have friends in high or low places, though. Come to think of it, better not have friends at all or else they’ll taunt you with their sunny escapades.
This past weekend I had to endure a full retelling of a friend who spent the last two days cruising through Andalucia. Being a Spaniard herself, she committed the usual crime that locals everywhere do best: being total ignorant of their roots. Dragging her companion along, they decided to hire a car in Malaga as it offered the lowest rates available for the desired itinerary.
Turns out that Malaga’s reputation isn’t built solely on its sandy, tourist-packed beaches – there is more to look at and discover, better yet while behind the wheel of a Spain car hire (pick one with air conditioning for a more breezy experience)! It boasts over twenty museums and a number of venues dedicated to the life and work of Picasso, as it stands as the artist’s birthplace.
However, the city’s nightlife has a lot to show for as well: whether on weekdays or in the weekend, the night seems to be always young around this town. Unlike my friends who, I’m ashamed to say, didn’t give in much to the Malagan night’s charm and headed early to their hotel room.
Morning would take them to another interesting Andalucian city: heading further inland in their hire car to Seville, the less than 3-hour drive is quite pleasurable as you go through the heart of the region. The capital presented enormous potential for another, more well-planned visit: even a full day isn’t enough to visit all the museums, landmarks, shopping opportunities… there’s entertainment for every whim!
Speaking of which… Maybe next time they’ll ask me to join them? Now that would be a great friendly gesture!
