Fuel policy, how to make good use of T&C

Car hire is a perfect way to spend your holiday. It gives you freedom to travel whenever and wherever you feel like. How to make a cheap car hire and not spoil it by missing important conditions like fuel policy?Auto Europe as a broker offers car hire from various local suppliers. Terms and conditions of car hire are generated by these companies. T&C are listed on our website next to each of the car hire offer and can be easily viewed. Once you pick up the car it is unfortunately to late to complain about the extra charges. Therefore, it is very wise and useful to verify the T&C before you actually book. And here are some general criteria one should pay attention to.

Car hire in Spain & Portugal is where the suppliers get creative with refuelling charges

    Full to full option

Most of the large, international car hire companies (more expensive ones) supply you with a fully tanked vehicle, which you need to return full as well. Most of the low cost suppliers in Spain and Portugal will not charge for fuel at the pick up for rentals no longer than 3 days. When you return the car, you need to tank it full in order to avoid refuelling fee.

    Full to empty

Low cost suppliers charge for fuel at the pick up do not credit back for any fuel left in the tank if the rental is longer than 3 days. Some of them, however, ask for the fuel fee at the pick up irrespectively of the rental period and make refund for the fuel left in the tank.
Our tip: if you travel in Spain or Portugal for more than 3 days, it better to chose the more expensive car hire option with fuel included - it will prove to be cheaper in the end, as you will not have to pay the extra fuel + TAX + service fee at the drop off! It will save you money and unnecessary stress.

    Car hire in the USA

A general rule is set for large car hire companies in the USA :'Client is required to purchase a full tank at time of pick up and should return the vehicle as empty as possible as there is no credit for unused fuel'.
Our tip: To avoid paying for the fuel, you may chose the Gold Rate option and have the first tank and 3 additional drivers included in the price. All the details can and should be and verified on our website before you book. In this way, you may choose the best option for your holiday. If all this seems to complex, call us on  +44 123 3225 114 for assistance and tailored offer.
