    New Fuel Policy Feature

At Auto Europe, we continuously strive to improve the quality of our services, as well as the transparency of the information we provide. Our clients' feedback is important to us and, based on that feedback, we have just implemented a new feature on our booking engine meant to improve the visibility of the fuel policy information. While before you had to click Product Information to read all the facts regarding the relevant fuel policy, now you can see straight away which fuel policy applies - whether 'full to full' or pre-paid - right below the hire price. And in order to make this feature even more convenient, on the left side of the pane you can also use our filters to display only vehicles with a certain type of fuel policy. At the moment, this feature is only available for certain destinations - namely Portugal and Spain - but over time we hope to extend it to all the countries where we offer car hire services. These are the fuel types you may come across in our booking engine:

    1) Pre-purchased Fuel & Return Empty

This option is very common with low cost suppliers, namely - but not exclusively - in Southern Europe. It means that at pick up, you will be required to pay upfront for a tank of fuel. You should then return the vehicle with the tank as empty as possible, since there will be NO REFUND for unused fuel. There is, however, an exception to this 'no refund' rule. Many suppliers will issue a refund for unused fuel in the case of rentals with a duration up to 3 days. You can click Product Information to check if that's the case. It's important to note when choosing a supplier with a 'pre-purchase' fuel option that the price per fuel litre charged locally will most likely be higher than what you would pay at a pump. Having said that, because these suppliers usually have lower hire prices than suppliers with a 'full to full' fuel policy, it is sometimes worth choosing this option even after factoring in the fuel cost.

    2) Pick up Full & Return Full

With this fuel policy, the vehicle is provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank of fuel. For many years, this was the standard practice in the industry and many people continue to favor this sort of arrangement. Please note, however, that it is extremely important that you do return the vehicle with a full tank. Otherwise, the local company will charge you for the missing fuel, at a rate that will also be significantly higher than what you would pay if you refuelled the vehicle yourself.

We hope you will find this feature helpful and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on the matter! You can leave a comment below, or come pay us a visit on Facebook or Twitter
