Weekend Retreat Wednesday | Lake Garda, Italy

Ever find yourself at the end of a long work week wishing that you could get away-but seeking a destination where you can truly escape?

Now, imagine yourself on top of a serene mountainside, overlooking calm waters, enjoying a glass of Italian wine. There isn't a sound in the air except for the lake swaying below and the birds chirping as they fly by. The best part is that you've just escaped reality and there isn't a worry in the world; not a task to complete or an email to respond to. All you're obliged to do is just sit back, relax, and enjoy your weekend getaway.

Welcome to beautiful Lake Garda. Located in the north of Italy, halfway between the cities of Brescia and Verona. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, with an area spanning 370 km. Here you might find yourself relaxing in one of the many cliff-side villa hotels enjoying crisp mornings, where you can simply breathe in the air around you. The locals are known to be very friendly, offering many a tourists a warm welcome.

While you are there, you can choose to enjoy the lake and even take a boat ride. Perhaps you fancy some shopping? You can find this and more in the local town, which offers plenty of shopping and dining options. You might notice a cableway that runs up the mountainside and if you aren't afraid of heights, you should try this out to see what you might find at the top. The cableway will take you all the way to the summit of Mount Baldo, where adventurers can enjoy the trails and hike through the region. The best time to visit is during the spring or late summer months, when you will often find Mediterranean-like weather.

Be sure to take some time to visit the Malcesine Castle, home to the Museum of Natural History of Mount Baldo and Lake Garda. You can also take to the tower and discover one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the entire region. Couples can even plan to marry here! While Italy is already known for its wine, the region surrounding the lake produces some of the best dry white wines, as well as sparkling and dessert wines.

Where do you plan to escape to this weekend?
