" Auto Europe is easy to use but there needs to be straigght through processing such that key metrics of the voucher automatically feed through to the providers systems thus avoiding changes to excesses and other fees such as additional driver. Virtuo are our Gold Standard when it comes to car hire as you get the model you reserved and everything is on-line. The quicker you can replicate this the better. "

The process to get them to adhere to the terms as per the Auto Europe agreement was slow and painful. We spent 30 mins at the desk and the time from joing the queue was 90 mins. Companies like Virtuo offer a much smoother experience with everything done on-line. "

I am 81 years old and the car was to be sitting (as it did) in my large garage until I returned home to London. First when the Enterprise/Alamo clients arrived the queue was long and we all had to wait 35 minutes before someone turned up at the desk. The young man had no English and when I said the car keys were for a small car he said it was the massive Peugeot 5008 SUV or nothing!! I explained it was far too large and he shrugged his shoulders gave me the key and showed me very little else. I worked out all I needed to know and drove in daylight to my home and parked the car in my garage. It remained there until I returned it safely (by 4.30 pm) to Garon Airport. Again there was no one on the desk so I posted the keys into the retrieval box. An hour and a half later just before the flight was closed I noticed a girl finally sitting at the desk and asked if she would just look over the car as I knew there was no damage on these two journeys. She retrieved the key and noted the car still in perfect condition and I explained how useless the young man was in not checking the car which had not been cleaned nor obviously checked when he remanded the keys to me on my arrival. She said she knew who he was and then she checked the exterior and said she had found a very slight damage to the drivers side on the very base on the car's skirting. I said it must have been there when I picked it up and she said it was just a formality and I need to sign for this minimum damage that had been identified. I said quite definitely it was not me and she agreed but it would help to sign. As my flight was now closing I signed) Just today I have received a de-recouvrement des dommages, sent to me noting an additional extraction from my Credit Card which I do not accept and I will place a stop on this. I am also telling Enterprise where my grandson is employed of this appalling service. To summarise Alamo were never at their desk. " I paid autoeurope the total amount at time of booking. When I returned the car to Alimo - I was advised I needed to pay the whole amount as well as daily insurance for hire duration. I advised I had paid Autoeurope but as I didn't have receipt on me & was advised that my card had been " held " but not charged until now- I paid. When picking up car at airport we waited over an hour to pick up. I was advised if there was a mark on the car I would be charged full amount- 1.500 €. I took out daily insurance as was anxious. My receipt was said to have been emailed to me - I never received it. When I returned the car at airport, I told them this & they promised to resend- I still haven't received it. When I asked for a printed receipt I was told I would need to wait at least 30 minutes- as I needed to check in I couldn't wait. I have rung autoeurope today and my complaint was treated very seriously and with apology. Autoeurope have emailed Alimo - but I am currently out of pocket over 300 € "

And the car we received was tiny compared to the picted Peugeot 508 in the advert. I spent a lot of time trying to get in contact and in the end we did not use the car except to get to airport and back. An easier contact point rather than someone saying they would email and after 6 or 7 calls I gave up. "

I took a screenshot to prove the mileage and fullness of the tank shortly after leaving the car hire car park at Basel airport - as I had three children in the car I could not turn back and solve the issue immediatelly. I was required to return the car with a full tank. So I should be entitled to a refund the equivalent of three quarters of a tank. But since returning from holiday I have battled with AutoEurpope, Alamo and Enterprise to get what is owed to me and I am getting nowhere. No one is taking responsibility, I keep being told it's the branch's responsibilty, it took many emails and phone calls to even obtain an email address for the branch and that branch does not email back so I am stuck. The car had multiple scratches and bumps in multiple places which seemed to be noted all ready. When we returned the vehicle without incident I'll add, the counter staff tried to charge us the full excess €1500 for dents to the roof (we couldn't even see them) and for a 1cm crack in a plastic hub cap. In the end we had to wait for the manager, however he was quick to disagree with the first agent but still charged us a €45 for the crack to hub cap. We don't think this was us but accept we were trapped by signing for the car at pick up. We had our own excess insurance so it would not have been a problem had we damaged the car, however we didn't and so it felt like a con. "

When we got to the car it had a small scratch down the driver's door. We brought this to the attention of the operative who said he would note it on our contract. We were slightly confused why Autos Europe should stipulate an International Drivers licence was required. the hire was in Corsica which the UK Government web site confirms does not need an international driving licence and the hire company did not require one. " The counter staff at the collection repeatedly tried to overcharge me, told different things to me at different times, kept me waiting for over an hour and repeatedly tried to alter the terms of the payment I had made to enable them to charge me extra. When I complained about this on returning the car the manager was extremely apologetic and helpful and reassured me that a full refund of my deposit would be made. Despite that an extra day of hire charge was deducted from my deposit before the balance was refunded. I have been attempting to challenge this for 4 days now and have yet to receive any response. "

" All fine except for being given a tired four year old car with 65000 km on the clock. It was not easy to drive with a tired gearbox. I believe that we were given this car because it was handed in just as we arrived an hour late for our pickup. I asked the member of Alamo staff if we could have a newer, less damaged Fiat 500 which was the car we booked - there was one parked nearby. He refused this despite my asking him how, when we were 60 minutes late we had to take a car which would not have been in the parking if we had not been delayed. So we ended up with a poor value, sub standard car. We have always used Auto Europe for years without any problem so we were surprised and disappointed. In total, although we were delayed and arrived slightly late, we waited almost another hour to be served and for the car to be cleaned. I look forward to your comments. "

" My first car had a fault re the automatic braking system and had to be taken away by an engineer on day 2 ( I picked up the car in the evening on day 1) . I contacted The 24 hr helpline when the car got worse and the engineer was sent . He took 3 hrs to arrive so it was late afternoon on Saturday . When the car had been taken away I contacted the helpline again to arrange a new car and was told it was too late (4.pm ) and I would have to wait until Monday - totally unacceptable. I was then told the firm would send a taxi to where I was (90mins from Toulouse ) and I could pick a car up and drive back that evening . Again totally unacceptable. Eventually a taxi took me to the company on Sunday morning and I collected a new hire car which was fine . But I lost hours of my valuable time on my holiday on the phone , waiting for calls back which never came and then I had to go to the airport rather than a car being provided to me . Very poor service . "

" As above. I really do think Auto Europe needs to send clearer instructions to its customers. It wasn't clear that Enterprise was actually outside Marseille railway station. We initially went to the wrong rental pick up desk. It seemed a lot of other people had also done this. You also need to send clearer instructions about where to drop off the car. We had to research this ourselves using the Marseille Airport website. This is poor. That said, the Enterprise staff at the Airport were great, and very helpful. "
" Our experience of picking up the car in Marseilles was terrible. First of all, the rental was difficult to find and clearer instructions from Auto Europe/Enterprise are needed. When we did arrive at the rental, there were very few staff on duty, and all the customers in front of us had issues with their pickups. One person seemed to be told that their rental was no longer available as they had arrived after the pick up time - even though they had been queuing for at least 30 mins. It seemed that this person was getting very poor service. This created an awful atmosphere in the garage. My youngest child had to leave the office as she was scared. Meanwhile, the queue of people waiting got longer and longer, with no update from the staff. One member of staff, who apparently was finishing for the day, just laughed and shrugged his shoulders as he left. The car we were offered seemed to have been dropped off by a previous customer as we were waiting. There was a further delay as there had been some damage to the car. When the car was given to us, it wasn't clean, the windscreen was dirty, and we realised that there was no windscreen washer fluid in the car once we had driven off. The handover was poor. There was no talk through of the car's functions. The instructions in terms of damage and insurance was confusing and unclear. The whole experience was very stressful and delayed our journey by about 90 mins. "

On the counter at pickup, for the compact category it stated Ford Focus or similar and I have been offered a Renault Clio, Opel (vauxhall) Corsa and a Citroën C3. When I asked why I have been told that they were part of the same group compact. I don't pretend to be more clever than anybody else but the size of a 308 and a Focus is definitely not the same than a Clio, Corsa and a C3. So in the future I won't choose Alamo if I have the choice. "

When we arrived at the airport we were informed that there was no cars available. The girl who served us was excellent and managed to find us a car, but unfortunately only one car was available so we had to go across to Europcar were we hired a car for 1051.82 euros. We could only get the one car so we was totally out of pocket(which I will be claiming back from yourselves), so instead of 3 cars we paid for we had to share with the Bell family to get around. I have myself paid for all cars and my husband and myself had to pay and get around not by ourselves but rely on others for transport even though as I have said I ended up paying for 4 cars . "

" All was well until I returned the vehicle. There was a quick check and I was told by your agent that there had been some damage sustained at the rear under the bumper. I was not aware of this and am confident that I did not sustain this damage given I had only driven 45km to a private garage. I was shown the damage and asked if I had taken out cover. I said I did not. I took a look and can see a minor scratch but was difficult to see. I repeated that I did not damage the car and could not have seen the damage upon collection because it was dark. I asked to see a pre-collection photo and was advised there was only a check with no photo. I asked how I could challenge this as I was informed I would be charged €118 for damage I did not create. The agent went to speak to his manager and was gone for about 5 minutes. I was close to leaving as my flight was due in under an hour. The agent intimated to me that all was well and I did not owe anything. I asked why and he said that the damage was reported on 1 February before I collected it but the file had been deleted. I was made to feel guilty before anyone checked the previous damage report and it felt he was only interested in taken my money. This was the first bad experience I have had renting a vehicle from any company and I am far from impressed by your company's system of checks and left with a feeling that I was being ripped off for someone else's damage. In fact the speed in which your agent found the damage was the only impressive part of the experience, making me feel that it was planned or some kind of ruse to make people take out damage waiver cover next time they rent. Not what I expect from a global company and I will not be renting with you again. "

" I was going skiing to the mountains and required a car with Winterisation, ie snow chains or winter tyres. I was told this could not be put on at the time of booking and I would have to pay for this locally at the airport in Lyon (Geneva where I normally go, all cars come winterised) On arrival I was told winter tyres were not available at all but I could have snow chains - for €58 ! luckily I didn't need to use them, on returning the car I showed the agent the chains to confirm I was returning them and then he informed me I had actually bought them, rather than rented them. If I didn't take them, they would sell them to the next customer! It also transpired they were not Snow chains, but textile snow socks, which are far less efficient. The system and the price was a complete rip off. I checked at a superstore and you can buy these items there for half the price !!! I also am still waiting to have my €250 euro deposit refunded, even though he said he had authorised it at the time. When I checked my credit card on returning, they don't just block the money they actually take it out and it debits your card and you have to wait for them to refund it. "

He advised us that he would note this down and it was ok for us to return the vehicle with the same level of fuel i.e 7/8. We were sent an email on collection which states the carburant level to be 13/16 at time of collection. Not a problem to me as a top up in a garage was easily done but shows that the vehicle had not been checked properly. I have rented Through Auto Europe before and this is the first time I have had a problem. "

Unfortunately on second day we lost key, french staff totally unhelpful, told us to get recovery , no idea of how much it will cost and no support for recovery car. Was told they were going to charge us £1000. So unfriendly and unhelpful. Found key and was told we could get car, no help getting car, had to spend £15 taxi to retrieve car. In the meantime our card was used with out our permission for fuel????? No additional fuel in car. We were on holiday and this experience completely ruined our first few days, customer service was the worst and as a result I would never use or recommend Alamo to anyone "

" This was a car with electronic push button ignition and automatic electronic handbrake. It gradually became clear that the handbrake did not always unlock when taking off from a stationary position. It was hard to know how to handle this. This first time it happened (the first day, I assumed that I had not engaged the acclerator sufficiently. When I accelerated a bit more, the brake unlocked and the car leapt forward, with the offside passenger wheel and undercarriage colliding with the pavement. As time went on it became clear that the electronic screen was faulty so that the screens/icons were not reliable and would fade or disappear e.g. for most of the time I was driving without a petrol gauge. By the last day I the screen only displayed the most basic informaiton. This was very stressful as we were in hilly country with a 2 year old passenger. The matter was well handled by Alamo when I returned the car to the airport and I was not charged the excess. My objective in sharing this with you is to suggest that this information should be displayed when selecting and booking a car for hire. I would never have chosen such a car had I known as I was travelling with a 2yr old child. I would want this information to be available when hiring a car in the future. "

The car seat that was the only one with the isofix base also wasnt rear facing, the only rear facing car seat that was suitable for my 8 month old baby didnt have any harness on it. " Dreadful. Lower rated car offered at pick up which was declined, then offered manual when automatic had been booked. Waited about an hour (along with many other customers) and then I suggested an automatic estate car which had been parked there the whole time. Eventually after some persuasion they agreed. However, after 30 minutes driving (we were then 5 minutes from our destination) the car developed a fault and stopped. We were parked up for 1/2 hour when fault appeared to clear and we got to destination. Thinking it was a temporary fault we did not report this at the time but two days from end of holiday the same thing happened again, with no power for about half hour. Got the car back to holiday home and called emergency number. Wasted a morning sorting that out but once we managed to get through to correct numbers etc they arrived quickly, diagnosed a gearbox fault and cleared it immediately. Reported this to Alamo on drop off but they were not even remotely interested, didn't want any of the paperwork from the emergency call out and I suspect the car would go straight back out on hire. I suspect that they knew about the fault when we picked it up in the first place. AutoEurope service is great (I have used many times) , but I would not use Alamo again after this experience. "

" there is double handling at Nantes airport - you have to check in at the main desk only to then have to go through the same process in a small hut with lots of other people waiting to be served which is quite chaotic when it's raining and there are people waiting around. none of the other care hire companies have the same double handling process. also, we were supposed to be provided with a 4 door car but were only given a 2 door car which was very inconvenient with elderly passengers i needed to drive around. i will not use Alamo/Nationa/Enterprise at Nantes again and have complained about the car provided. "

" I had a flight landing on Friday at 23:40 and found out there were nobody at the counter but a sign to go to floor 1 office by the parking places. Nobody there either, the lights were off and door locked. Shouted a while but no one answered. Had to rent a car from AVIS at €150 for a day (was already almost 1 am) and came back on the next day to get my car from Alamo. Very friendly young man at the counter, however I got a dripping wet car which was impossible to investigate in terms of potential damage. Returned the card at 6:20am to catch my 7:30 flight, but again nobody there. Left the keys to the keybox as per their instructions. Next day got an email stating there is a dent on the car roof with a photo not identifying the car nor the dent!!! The car has been in a secure, closed hotel parking hall every night and was not subject to any damage. For me this sounds like a scam. I will never again rent a car from ALAMO. Very, very disappointed. "

" Good Points I was given an upgraded vehicle. The booking and allocation was very efficient Room for improvement The car I was given had only a quarter tank of fuel. It was hired on a full to full basis. When I put fuel in it I ended up giving it back with over half a tank of fuel,so I am out of pocket there. On inspection of the vehicle it had two large scratches on the side which hadn't been marked on the hire form. The vehicle had not been cleaned on the exterior so perhaps this was why these hadn't been picked up. Inside the vehicle was clean and tidy. "

We picked up our Renault Clio but unfortunately there was a problem with vibration so after a few miles we headed back to the airport car hire. As I was planning to drive narrow streets of hill villages and scenic drives in French Riviera and Provence, driving a full-size car would not be a good idea. For this reason, I refused to take a full-size car. I contacted AUTOEUROPE office and then had 4 consecutive very long conversations with them. Without going into details, I can say that these conversations were completely ineffective and total waste of time. My wife and I were exhausted by fighting for our car, looking for other cars, etc., (especially after our overnight flight from USA). After spending 3.5 hours in Car Rental Center, we were desperate and ready to take anything just to get out of Nice AIRPORT. At this moment, somehow (?) it appeared that the car, we booked, was available. But, the bottom line is that the first day of our vacation was destroyed. Also, there was another issue. In my booking, I indicated that my flight arrived at Nice Airport Terminal 2. Despite of this, I was instructed to proceed to ENTERPRICE in Terminal 1, and then to ENTERPRICE in in Terminal 2. However, both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have the same ENTERPRICE. I noticed that once I got a voucher right after my online booking. So, I called AUTOEUROPE, but they said they can't do anything about it, except to find another supplier. As it turned out, there was no need to send us to Terminal 1 (when we arrived to Terminal 2). " I had a debate with the man at the counter about the fuel. In the end I decided I would fill up myself on return. I was then met by a lady at the car who sold me additional insurance for 30 euros per day - I resented paying this because it felt like I had no option. I signed some paperwork in about 4 places. I then returned the car and couldn't find the petrol station so your man at the return bay looked at my paperwork (I was going to go back and fill up with fuel) and he said I had paid for a full tank! When I checked my bank account I had been deducted 289 euros which was for the 30 euros per day x 6 days plus fuel I presume. Not happy with the process and the lack of transparency and honesty. "

The Sixt Hire desk was adjacent to Alamo in the Terminal with 6 operatives working and the customers barely having to wait. Having arrived at Terminal 2 we took the shuttle bus to Terminal 1 only to find an unmanned desk with a placard saying "collect car at Terminal 2. This was not only frustrating but time consuming. My sister with whom l was travelling and l are both nearly 80 and did not appreciate the extra back and forth. We then waited in a queue with 5 people ahead of us BUT only ONE agent/receptionist. Two of the waiting queue had problems with their bookings. One woman had to telephone her bank and was unable to get the credit she needed. We spent over an hour waiting for our turn. The agent was then very helpful and we were done in a very few minutes. Returning the car was extremely easy and the system was efficient, with a very friendly receptionist/agent. Fortunately we had verified on picking up the car that it was to be returned to Terminal 2 NOT Terminal 1 as repeated on the hire voucher. "

I've used this car hire service before (and they were on a par with every other car hirer here), but the service this year has improved immensely, maybe following the relocation of the office further back in the car park. At this and other hirers, you normally have to wait up to an hour to get any old car they have available, even when you pre-book. Not this time! The car was out front, waiting and we were driving away in less than 15 minutes! Couldn't believe how quick it was as I normally budget for an hour plus to get a hire car at this airport. Staff were ultra efficient and friendly. The same was true of drop off, even though there were several people who arrived at the same time to hand in keys, the lady behind the counter stepped in and did the drop off herself. After a quick look over, the deposit was refunded to my account immediately. I can't recommend these guys highly enough. "

The roads in Corsica are extremely challenging - an automatic box would have helped considerably but wasn't available until the higher specification models, which are pointless for a solo traveller and out of a lot of people's price range. At my destination, automatics were available from Fiat 500 upwards, which would have made driving a lot easier. Other than this, you've got it just about right. "

" The first car we collected had a slow puncture. I suspect the puncture existed when I collected the car as it triggered a pressure sensor after 2-3 days and repeatedly did this following inflation of the tyre until we changed the car mid-rental. When we tried to contact Enterprise/Alamo we had difficulties with the numbers we had been given not connecting/ringing out. On one occasion, a local (French) operator to all of the details and said he would call back urgently - he never called back. Eventually we took the car back to the depot at Biarritz Airport. We were advised to take it to Speedy Repairs a short distance away. Speedy told us they couldn't possibly do anything with it that day and called the rental office, who then told us to bring the car back. we did this and the car was exchanged with a nearly new car which was fine for the remainder of our holiday. "

This time made mistake with dates ( acknowledge that) and arrived to be told by sullen rude unsympathetic young woman to be told "the car was booked for last week". Then on my asking about "why no notification" or " any refund" she was very blunt and rude. Pointed us in direction of Hertz which at 430 in afternoon were able to help us in courteous sympathetic way. I realise I made the mistake but being pleasant and 'sympathetic' would have made a huge difference to 4 tired hot tourists. Hertz were the winners on the day and 2 wks later in London when we needed another car we avoided autoEurope. I know Alamo is an agency and our Liverpool experience with you was fantastic "

" The online booking procedure via Auto Europe was simple enough. But I now know why you were the cheapest, as the service from the rental supplier was diabolical. Lesson learnt. We won't be returning. "
" 1) Queued for 15 mins at the Swiss Side (Geneva Airport) to be told we had to cross the airport to the French Side. 2) Massive queues at the French Side counter. People hanging about waiting for vehicles. Only two people on the desk (who seemed more interested in going to eat than serve customers). Tempers very short. Not at all welcoming. Paperwork not well explained, especially the return procedure avoiding the Vignette route. After waiting for almost 1 hour, I returned to the desk to ask whereabouts of vehicle, whereupon I was practically thrown the keys, vaguely pointed in the direction of the lift down to car pick-up point. At the pick-up point, which was very dimly lit, so impossible to see whether the car had dents/scratches etc, we were again rushed through the process and finally sent on our way about 2.5 hours after landing. " The collection of the car at Aix TGV was very easy. The staff (Selma) very friendly and efficient. The car, a Toyota Yaris was brand new! It was very good to drive, and very economical. It was a bit difficult to findthe drop off point at Carcassonne airport, as there was no readily visible signage. Fortunately I had plenty time to find it, going 3 times round various roundabouts, and entering tge airport car park before I spotted the Enterprise sign in a difficult-to-access industrial estate opposite the airport. I am sure (I hope) this is all going to be upgraded in the very near future. The young English lady who handled the return process was equally efficient and friendly. I tried phoning the Enterprise number provided, but had only a series of "option" menus, which did not help at all. "

I didn't realise the rental was through "Enterprise" until I was in the office looking for ALAMO BY ENT, on reading the details again I saw where it said go to Enterprise, perhaps this could be highlighted more. The other comment I would make is that when we brought the car back as there was no-one available in the office so I left the car keys in the letter box, so I could not check the car over with anyone. I know there was nothing wrong with the car, but it would be nice to be advised that you are happy with the car. A text or email to confirm there were no issues would be a reassurance that you are happy and there would be no further charge. Otherwise I was very happy with everything. Many thanks. "

" Having ordered a Fiat 500 or similar, we arrived at the Enterprise office to be told that they had no cars available and we could take their small Enterprise van. If we returned two days later, they said, cars would be available. That however, would have necessitated a two-hour round trip from our base. So we were stuck with the van for 8 days. We were in Provence with a party of 26 friends, but we were unable to offer lifts to any of the organised events for other people in the group as the van had only 2 seats. When we returned the vehicle they asked if we were satisfied. Clearly, we were not satisfied, and received a 15% OFF ticket for a future Enterprise rental. They also had the audacity to ask if we had left the tank full of diesel. "

" I booked through auto Europe but the car I requested was not available at the airport. I wasted 2.5 hrs of my holiday at the airport where my two small children and pregnant partner had to wait. I then had to make a local booking to get a vechicle suitable and need to try and get a refund off Alamo. I will be making a complaint as the whole process was terrible. "
