" Check out and drop off were very efficient. However I unfortunately had a tyre puncture on the second day. I had to change the wheel myself, and drive to the nearest Hertz Office (Monopoli). I then had to drive to a separate garage to check if the type could be repaired (it couldn't) and then had to wait on a mechanic to drive us back to the Hertz Office where I then had to wait for a replacement car to be provided. This office only had Panda cars available which was not big enough for our group hence I had to then drive to Bari to pick up a larger car. Altogether this took up a whole day of my holiday and it appeared that the overall service from Thrifty/Hertz was disjointed/unstructured/not customer friendly. "

The car was as described, in excellent condition, and came with modern features. e.g. Android Auto, parking camera, parking sensors, lane monitoring, etc. Paperwork / admin took longer than expected (about 20 minutes, even though I had everything to hand), and required signing a document at lease seven times. The fuel tank wasn't quite as full as claimed. Returning the vehicle was smooth and efficient and no problems were encountered. " The car was not what we ordered and filthy. It was also unsafe. And Auto Europe and Drivalia's service is entirely inadequate for supporting customers in trouble. It was a horrible experience that we have also been charged for. "
" We were given a dirty car - filthy on the outside it had litter left in it and was covered in muck and had a light odour of puke . It wasn't the car we'd asked for -it was from a manufacturer we've never heard of when we were expecting a Fiat. The car had multiple warning notices regularly appearing on the dashboard including the instruction that it needed servicing and we later learnt why. Half way through our trip the rear tyre exploded while we were driving on a motorway - this was a frightening and deeply dangerous incident and from looking at the tyre it looks like it should have been replaced a long time ago. we managed to get the car stationary on the hard shoulder . We have 2 young children and we had our lives endangered by driving in an unserviced car that was not fit to be hired out. Having reached the service number we managed to get the car towed but there was no provisions,care or concern for our family. We had all our suitcases in the car and we were being asked to get out the car on the hard shoulder of a motorway with our children so that the vehicle could be taken - There was no assistance for us - no taxi we could locate despite calling all the local companies we could find, and your company makes no provisions for the people renting the car - instead we are expected to make our way to your rental office somehow. We tried multiple numbers but couldn't reach anyone to help us, the UK and Italian offices were closed and the local offices just endlessly rang out. We ended up having to sit in the car while it was on the back of the tow-truck and get dropped at a service station by the tow-truck - which is unsafe, illegal and uninsured. The service and organisation is truly disgraceful - we were later told that your phone line wasn't working in Bari Airport so we were calling a number that didn't even ring anywhere. We were then charged for the repair of the vehicle that put our lives in danger. "

The details showed it had 8 scratches, including 2 on the front. When I returned the car - people swarmed all over it, complained about the small amount of sand on the floor, then "found" another scratch on the front... I did not scratch the car, but had failed to take any additional photos before I took the car - for the reasons above. This scratch that they claim was new - was about 2 cm long, and they charged my credit card £200. It already had 8 scratches, which they obviously do nothing about... This is just a money making scam. "

" I chose not to take out the extortionately priced extra insurance of €360 for a one week rental which equates to €18,730 Pa. I had no issues at all while I had the car but on returning the vehicle the operative could find nothing untoward based on the condition of car when I received it so he got down on his knees at the front of the car and ran his hand under the front bumper. He then announced that there was damage I.e a scratch under the bumper that was not recorded in his system. There was no external visible sign of anything wrong on the actual bumper to see and he said if I didn't have any proof that this scratch was there when I rented the car I would have the pay for the damage. I asked why would I take photos under the car to see if there was damage when there was no visible sign of an issue on the bumper. He said I should take photos of all parts of the car including this area to avoid such situations. He then proceeded to charge me €230 for the damage and said if I don't sign the form to accept that I had caused the damage then I would not be able to claim against any other insurance I may have. I had no choice but to sign the form accepting that I had caused the damage which I had not. I guess they got the equivalent if their insurance premium after all. Wouldn't surprise me f they pull this trick each time someone does not buy their insurance. This is extortion and corrupt and I will never use your services again. "

However, when we dropped the car off and the woman went to inspect the car (we had absolutely no damage) however she very conveniently went STRAIGHT to the manual door lock (the car was an automatic unlock) and highlighted to us that it was broken and we would have to pay for that damage unless we provided proof that it was checked before taking away (I am not sure who on earth would check the manual door lock!!). Luckily I had a photo of the side of the car and was able to show the lock. However it was quite obvious that they knew about the damage and not reported it so they could try make some money out of the customers. Quite sneaky and poor. Overall very poor customer service and wouldn't recommend this company to anyone nor book with this company again for this reason. "

" Pathetic experience ..had booked a 6-8 seater SUV so that all my family could travel together and we wouldn't have to separate ..when we reached Bari car rental agency Autovia they informed the car booked by us was broken down and not available and we would need to take 2 cars instead ..first why were we not informed before if the vehicle was not available , second we were worried about the second vehicle since the driver was not very comfortable with right hand drive so we took a big risk , third we paid much more for both the cars since a single SUV would have been much more expensive than 2 normal cars and the parking and fuel and everything costed us more and lastly when we contacted Auto Europe and informed them about our problem they didn't even provide us any solution or checked with other agencies if a similar vehicle is available and left us completely stranded ..infact AUTOVIA still helped us more ..so I don't think I would be ever booking through AutoEurooe again ..and I'm a very frequent traveler and a Hertz and SixT user and thought of using Auto Europe for the first time and if service was good woukd shift to them ..but totally unsatisfied "

" The car was missing the parcel shelf which was a security issue as couldn't both leave the car when stopped at service station. The battery was going on the door remote control so had to use the key to open and lock the doors. Where the car was parked was a long way from the airport and very difficult to find, had to go down a narrow passageway to get to it and not ideal with luggage.. On return, I asked one of the colleagues in the car park to check the car, however, was told that I had to go to the main desk in the airport. At the main desk, they said they would check the car later and send me an e mail. However, I wasn't happy with this so insisted that we walk back to the car park for them to check and sign off. So it took a good 45 minutes to hand the car over. Luckily we had allowed plenty of time before our flight so was able to do this. "

When I raised this, basically told tough, don't care. We ordered a full size suv as we had to transport bags and large buggy. As a result of the smaller SUV, we had to cram everything in and have the parcel shelf across the children for the 1.5 hour drive to our accommodation. This was a very bad experience. The car has several large scrapes, and I was told to video them as the staff member couldn't be bothered to come out to the vehicle or inspect the damage on collection with me. The child seats were in very poor condition, particularly the booster seat. When asked to change for the other seat that I could see, we were refused. Finally, on drop off, I was challenged about the scrape and had to produce the video evidence. Had I not had that video, he would have tried to charge me. All together, terrible experience. "

When getting into the car, we could not change the displays etc. from Italian to English language. Also, we agreed full-to-full petrol, but were told at the start of the rental that the tank was only half-full - this was extremely difficult to judge when returning the car - particularly due to the unclear fuel gauge display in the new VW Golf. I was expecting a tough time returning the car believing they would try to show me marks that allegedly happened during my lease but it was a different team member who checked me back in a courteous manner without any issues being raised. Other annoyance was that after 300km I had to top-up the Ad-Blue as the instrument panel was telling me the car wouldn't start if I didn't but I stupidly forgot to raise this with them went returning the vehicle. Very good value though (£100 less than next cheapest) and got a car upgrade, and didn't have to pay for second driver. Would probably say was worth the hassle. "

" The queuing experience was really dreadful. The office has a ticket machine, so on arrival at the office customers were expected to take a ticket so that they could leave the queue but maintain their place. Unfortunately some customers would press for a ticket more than once, so that a few tickets were lying around. That meant that customers could pick up a ticket that was issued earlier and jump the queue. There were many disgruntled customers. It also meant that the numbering system did not work correctly as there were significant gaps between numbers actually held and those displayed on the screen. I'm sure that one customer arrived in the queue after me, then disappeared for a while, then returned with a lower numbered ticket than the one I held, and insisted in going before me. In the office, it was clear that some customers did not understand how they should comply with the booking requirements - that must be very frustrating for the office staff, so perhaps some extra warning could be issued during online booking eg the main driver has to present a credit card in their own name to complete the booking - incredibly one couple were trying to argue that it should not be necessary, causing a delay. Once in the office my process was quite efficient, but overall a frustrating experience. "

" Arrived and check in was disorganised and slow. Told where to go to get car but nobody there and we had to search the car park for our car which was parked in a rivals spot. When we returned the car we were told there was a small amount outstanding which we questioned as all prepaid and told to go to check in desk. We were asked for our car documents (given when you get the car) we said we never had them and explained the lack of staff at collection which he seemed to disbelieve. He checked the system and also phoned to the drop off people and told us nothing was outstanding so he did not understand why we thought that. On returning home there was an email showing an amount of Euro 6 something so Budget do not seem to know what each part is doing and blaming the customer which is unacceptable and we won't use again. "

Debit card taken for the deposit as an alternative to the credit card but was forced to pay 96 euros for an extra insurance policy. Total scam. Another 3 people also charged up to 300 euros for additiona insurance before the cars are released. Would recommend using a different car company. Extremely non customer friendly female on the counter tfor Scicily by car that shouldn't be in a customer service role. Having said that, this goes for most of Italy in customer service roles! Asked if she was always so unpleasant and her reply was not always but she was having a bad day! "

" Worst ever car hire experience at counter! Slow, long queue not helped by staff efforts to up sell. Also not very clear that numbered ticket required from very small machine near office entrance. Note that Budget and Avis are same company here. Smiling lady tried to persuade/trick us to purchase extras didn't want or need for everything. She dishonestly claimed no breakdown cover included in rental and that call out charge would be €350 so we should buy their cover at €4,25 per day. She maintained our AutoEurope Excess cover inadequate, so we should buy theirs. Moved us from full to full tank to fuel up front option with more false claims (although we returned it full without any problems). Note you only get email copy of what signed for on office screen. No issues with staff in car park though. We had to point out damage as it wasn't on our paperwork. They noted our comments on slip of paper and gave it to us without keeping any record themselves. They suggested we take our own photos. No problems at drop off though with this. "

You should offer customers guarantees that they will not get any of this nonsense at the rental desk if cdw has already been purchased through you. "
" I was in a queue at the rental desk for approx 1.5 hours. Nobody informed me you had to obtain a ticket to proceed to an assistant. The desk assistants took on average 20 minutes to deal with each customer mainly caused by their hard selling techniques for cdw policies, car upgrades and return car empty of fuel for 100euro !! which they reckon was a good deal. It was all a very unpleasant experience that I wasnt expecting from Avis. Never again "

" Car was scrappy. 43,000 km on the clock and with 5 major points of damage noted. We took photos all around the car as there were many more additional minor points of damage. Gearbox jammed a a junction on a dual carriageway but fortunately that was a one off. The extra costs for full excess protection and glass protection were expensive compared to other hires within Europe. Neither the rental agreement nor the final invoice were emailed to me so I had to spend time looking on their website. Final invoice is not easy to understand. Much prefer other rental companies to Budget. "

" If service is to be provided through a 3rd party this should be made clear before sale - otherwise I may as well just pick the cheapest each time and hope for the best. Incidentally Sicily by Car which I had chosen to avoid looked to have a much better set up with clean cars . The car I got had 6 identified areas of damage . I couldn't check them until the morning after as I arrived in the dark and even then it was difficult as the car exterior was dirty and there additional marks which I think were tree sap but at initial look I couldn't tell whether it was damage or not. Car Hire is stressful and this was additionally so and at additional cost. "
" My biggest problem here was when I got to Bari to get my car from Enterprise I got it from Locauto. If I wanted Locauto I could have got that for a lot less through Auto Europe. I suffered the hard sell on extra insurance and ended up taking the breakdown callout insurance as I wasn't confident I had that cover with my existing policy. As it happened I had so I wasted €60 . I chose Enterprise as I haven't experienced the hard sell and varied range of exclusions. "

" I am a frequent hirer of cars, normally with Auto Europe, in Italy. I cannot recommend AE high enough. The whole process from booking your car through to support for post rental issues with the car hire companies, are excellent. "
" Only negative is that most of your car hire companies do not issue a hard copy of the existing damage report when you sign the check out documentation. I am a frequent hirer of cars with you guys and quite often the existing damage info is not up to date so I often have to get the guy in the renters carpark to update their records. This is much harder to do when you, the hirer, no longer have a hard copy to refer to when you check over the car over. The hire company now sends the damage info to you by email after you have driven out of the car park. Not much use! It would be good to think that your company could put pressure on the big car hire companies to automatically issue a hard copy at the check out desk - like they used to! "

Apparently for some reasons I was black listed in their system, not sure why and I was never notified, possibly a mixed up but they did not want to give us the car. At this point we were seriously stranded at the Airport so I called AutoEurope, their customer service was super efficient that in 30 minutes arranged another car with a different company at even better rate :) Best experience ever so don't look elsewhere just book cars with AutoEurope. " Auto Europe are quick and efficient and in two recent cases of using them they provided good cars (from quite different companies and in different locations) with all payments pre-paid in £ and a voucher issued to be given to the rental car agent at the arrival airport. Extra fees for a second driver were paid locally and a hold of Euros 500 placed on my credit card in case of damages or fuel refilling. The amount was duly refunded in a day afterwards when I arrive home. I would say that with Auto Europe it is all very clear and good value if you have no presumptions about a certain make or model of car. If you just want a set of wheels for a hoiday trip and a certain car group, then this service is quick and easy and competitive and, so far, reliable. It all saves the customer hunting the internet for separate car rental companies and trying to compare prices and specifics. "
" Whilst the rental was formally with Alamo I am aware that they are part of the Enterprise and National rental car organisations. So it was not possible to make a distinction with regards to 'Alamo by Ent'. In fact, at the desk in Bari Airport, Italy - the pick-up location - it was a local agency who represented these 3 companies (only these 3, no others) and it was a small desk that was hard to find - with the name 'Locauto'. It would have been useful to know that I would be dealing with Locauto and that the paperwork, rental car parking zone and everything was in that name. Anyway, it was all very fine and there were no problems. In fact at the return after the holiday I parked the car in the designated area and the agent quickly came to check it and confirm it was all OK and that there were no extras or damages, etc. and he then said he would drive me and my wife plus the luggage to the Departures Terminal and help us unload. This was extremely convenient and very friendly as the distance could have been a long walk, through a bus station, up a ramp and past the Arrivals hall. This was a very good service from Locauto. "

" Worst car hire experience I have had for over 40 years. No directions when arrived at airport. 45mins before minibus arrived to take us to offsite location. Counter staff aggressive about selling insurance. Had to collect car from dark underground garage where you couldn't see damage to vehicles properly. Gave us a car that was not roadworthy and we refused to take it (tyre was split where is had been in a collision at the front wheel which had completely dstroyed wheel trim). They insisted it had been looked at by their mechanic but eventually backed down. Took nearly 2 hours before we eventually left with a second vehicle - which was meant to be spotless but wasn't. Argued before they agreed to mark scratch on documentation. Return was equally unsatisfactory. Tried to charge for scratch that we had pointed out (and which they knew about and found within 5 seconds) and for minor marks that we had also pointed out. Charged 240 euros for one small mark on bumper - they were clearly intent on charging for something Will never go near Inter Rent again - or Goldcar that is the real company name "

This stopped my afternoons photoshoot from taking place and the trip to Monopoli meant that the mornings work would also be lost In the morning we went to Monopoli and exchanged the vehicle and the team there were very nice However I went from a return empty to a return full contract My complaint is that your team were happy to leave me stranded in Alberobello without transport Made no attempt to find a solution as it was me that made suggestions how to remedy the situation The car was faulty and your policy seems to be get the car and leave the customer to sort themselves out I lost a day of work when if you had bought a replacement all this aggravation could have been avoided "

They could see I had just landed with my wife and 3 young children aged between 1 and 6, it was 11pm at night, so they thought they would take advantage of a vulnerable family/situation. So I could only have a car there and then for the €632 price. I refused, got a lift, booked another car online and returned and picked it up the next day, with my wife driving instead. Con artists. I've lost the £200 of the original booking because they refused to change the driver's name, however then trying to con a family is disgusting. "

Counter staff did the usual sales patter of trying to frighten you into additional insurance, but we told them we had our own so didn't need the one they offer and they were fine. One point which is not specific just to Avis, but any company we hire from, is that they nearly all very kindly "upgrade you" to a better model than the one you requested, which I am sure most people are thrilled with. However, I am used to driving a small car without all the bells and whistles therefore always choose this option when hiring because that is what I am comfortable with. The counter staff at Avis did try to upgrade us to a Renault Captur, but, and especially as I had read that in Italy get the smallest car you can, I declined this and requested the size car I had booked, which they provided without a problem, thankfully. I have returned home to an invoice from Budget where I find Budget have charged me for the SPP super protection package that we refused. I have contacted budget and they refuse to acknowledge my complaint as I signed the agreement. Clearly they are a company that are happy to have their staff acting in a fraudulent manner. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Shame as apart from this the pickup, car provided and drop off service was excellent. Adding unwanted and declined packages to customers bills however is dishonest and unforgivable. "

I also mentioned that it did seemed unusually noisey at times, but they said that was bot a problem and to consider that I was 'only hiring the car and not buying it?!' I said I would see how it goes and report back, and did phone again. I drove back to airport also to mention and get an actual copy of the car's condition at point of hiring. This printed sheet accounted for all the marks I noticed. " Ordinarily we have a very good experience with Alamo. Unfortunately this time there was a fault with the car and we broke down. We it took 7 hours to sort out the problem, arrange for the car to be collected - organise a taxi (which we had to pay for - €100) to collect another car from an airport (not the airport we collected or were scheduled to return the car to) which was nearly an hour away - then there was a lot of confusion around charges for the second car. Overall the staff were helpful and we got there in the end but the procedure for replacing the car was confusing and we felt very worried about the outcome as we knew the car was faulty but it felt like we weren't believed. We were only on holiday for 3 days and so this incident took out a lot of this time and we found ourselves miles away from where we had planned to be on that day. The replacement car was however very good. "

" I've had appalling experience collecting my car from Budget at Bari Airport! After waiting 1 ¼ hours the only car my party was offered was Mercedes A160 where a Nissan Qashqai or similar was described in the booking. I understand very well the meaning of OR SIMILAR, however the boot the A160 is 60 litres smaller than the boot of the Qashqai. This also meant that we could not fit our three small suitcases in the boot of the Mercedes. The only other option we were offered, was upgrade from Group F to Group G (Mercedes B180D), which meant we had to pay 200 euro extra in total for our car rental. The whole process was very slow, the office staff has blamed it to the upgrade of the IT system – apparently they always had upgrades midweek. For all the time I have booked through Auto Europe, I've never had such frustrating experience with any car rental company so far – for this I'll be filing another claim with Auto Europe. I also had similar experience with Budget a week later at Marseille Airport "

" terrible experience unfortunately. It was unclear during the booking process that I would have to pay extra once we actually got to the actual pickup. Then it turns out that the renter was LOCAUTO and not Alamo or Auto Europe. THey had the longest queue and it took over 45 minutes from lining up in the queue to actually getting the car. The whole experience seemed to be set up to bring you in at the lowest price, and get you with unexplained extras. Finally, they have now charged me the maximum excess for an innocuous scratch on the bumper and some scratches on the alloy wheels, which you can be sure will never actually be repaired. Also, there was no information provided about the drop off point other than the address, which is pretty hard to get to in Florence. Some better directions, and information that we had to go into an 'authorised car zone' would have been helpful. "

It takes 30 min per customer to get through all their sales tactics, trying to cheat customers into things they do not need. It took me 2 hours to get my prepaid, pre-booked car, because the lady tried to sell me things I did not need. Worst car rental experience I have ever had. 2 out of 4 Avis/Budget staff were working (very slowly, and of course sales tactics), the other 2 were having a chat and left office despite waiting customers. Please do something about this! Do not advertise Budget/Avis cars for the Bari Airport office on your Auto Europe website. The most disrespectful treatment of customers who have already paid for the car online. Car had a broken back light, otherwise fine. "
