" I explicitly asked to not take the insurance but instead put the excess on my credit card. It appears that the agent charged me insurance anyway. Plus some other charges which were not itemised nor requested. No idea what my charges were for. No response on email, chat or call centre. I was given a hybrid model with no details from the company on how to refuel and being a 2024 model no information online either. Had to return without a full fuel tank which (I can only guess as no details sent) incurred further charges. Again, no correspondence or breakdown of charges. Have somehow paid over 300 euros for 3 days of a compact. Awful experience won't use you again. "

" I have forgotten my fathers death certificate in the glove compartment in the hire car. Getting hold of somebody at BER airport is difficult esp as all the numbers on the confirmation document are re-routed to a central point. I had to call three times before I ended up talking to somebody at BER. Even then the dispatch team did not pick up and I am none the wiser. I have e-mailed Mr Boltze and he came back within a couple of hours telling me that the car is re-hired and will not be back until the 28 December. I am hoping that the grey folder with the original death certificates is still in the car and that the team who takes the car in will check and pass on to the team upstairs as I am back in January. Let's hope. This would be excellent customer care if I get this back. "

" So I was told that I needed insurance when I picked up the car, or else each incident would have an excess of E1250. I asked how much the insurance was for a week and was told E360 - this was MORE than it was to hire the car. Basically, it's quite criminal of Hertz to panic a client into buying very overpriced insurance by setting a huge excess. You are meant to be helping clients, not making their holiday worse. ALSO, I was told that if I didn't fill up the car, it would cost me E750 to fill it from empty. Again, this is criminal behaviour. I drove around looking for petrol, then missed my plane, which cost me E600. And I have been asked to pay for E120 of petrol. All the behaviour of Hertz did was stress me out. "

" I had known there was damage to the car, I would have taken my own photos for record. Where I picked up the car was dimly lit and the damage was not evident. I check the obvious damage on the allows, which were and remained defect free. The damage claimed is against scratches to the bumper in the loading area to the boot. I loaded my small suitcase (10.6 kgs) into the boot horizontally due to low level of parcel shelf. At no time did I unload the case vertically, which would have been alinged to marks identified by the returning receiving person. I mention that I had not damage the areas marked and he advised that I would not have to pay for the damage. He proceeded to mark 2 lines perpendicular to the bumper on the top face of the bumper "

There were no car rental staff in the immediate vicinity of where we'd parked - they were presumably further up the line, dealing with cars returned earlier. Like others, we left the car with the key to get to the check-in desk in good time. A few days ago, I got a report from Sixt by email with photos showing scratches on the vehicle's rear bumper. They requested a statement from us as to how these occurred. As we had no idea about these scratches - there were no collisions or bumps during the period we had the car, we disputed responsibility for causing them. Yesterday, I received an invoice from Sixt indicating that the car had been returned after 21:00, much later than the actual time of around 14:30 (our flight departed from Munich airport at 16:25). I suspect the car may have been taken out from where we parked it and returned later - only CCTV can confirm this. This issue has not been resolved and explains the mixed feedback re. the car rental. Nothing to do with Auto Europe, of course. "

" My experience of the car hire was fine. My experience of AutoEurope's excess damage insurance was not so good. After submitting the documents it took them about 5 weeks to refund the money. Also, they didn't follow my instructions to refund the money to my euros account (the refund was in euros), so I received much less than I originally paid (I had to pay exchange fees and the euro had depreciated substantially over the 5 weeks). This car incurred the same cost as the car we had booked .. even though they had advised us our category car was not available. The infant seat was of poor quality and we had to carry it to the car ourselves, instead of it being already in the car. There was no one available to help instal the infant seat. When we returned the car during normal business hours, there was no one there to take it back. We were then charged a late return fee. We were also charged for the infant seat even though we were not told it would incur a charge by counter staff. I have called Avis and we will have those charges refunded but it all seems to little too late. A terrible experience overall! "

" If we order a car, it needs to be a similar version in most respects. Alamo Berlin didn't seem to be too aware of your contract details given the questions they asked despite being given details via your booking. They also asked about various insurances (a typical rental trick to create uncertainty and extra sales), although I am sure I covered all aspects via your contract and personal excess insurance. The rental process went reasonably smoothly otherwise. Just annoying to have such uncertainty and wide variance in vehicle type at point of pick up. I expect a rental contract to be near to accurate in all respects including similarity of vehicle type. Any contractual failure on my part would have been met by you with some resistance no doubt. "
" We were given a Mercedes Citan to drive; hardly a comparative car to the Golf we requested, not even similar being a 6+ seater. Alamo did not know where the car return location was at Nurnberg Airport, neither did their first contact airport info service. It's a small airport, and fortunately it was an obvious return point after some personal searching via mapping. "

" Hertz are very good so you don't need to worry how you book. Hertz are members of the professional arbitration service which would help in the event of problems. If you use charlatans like Interrent then you need a booking agent that is on your side. In such a case I would not use Autoeurope again as they are unregulated and don't look after you. "

" One the best companies I have ever dealt with. I'm a bit particular and Auto Europe were always there to answer any my queries. The only down side is you can sometimes wait quite a while on the phone before you get through, so that could be improved by a fair bit to be honest. Other than that, brilliant service and easy website to use. I will be using them for sure again. "
" We did not go with Avis, due to poor reviews I changed with you to Sixt. They were brilliant. I can't comment on Avis but I am so glad I went with Sixt. Brilliant car, free upgrade smooth transfer, took about 10minutes max to be in car and on my way. Would use them again for sure. I did upgrade to zero excess at 13 euros a day. For me it's worth it it for total peace of mind and they didn't hard sell me it. "

" Very disappointing experience. I have approached Avis desk and got told that car I have booked is not available due to high demand. I have booked Mercedes vehicle and got Peugeot. Ordering Mercedes you would expect either Mercedes,bmw or audi,which normally happens when not available Definitely Peugeot is not same class as cars mentioned. I had to experience issues with car mainly due to lack of knowledge this low class cars,which I have never drove which I have mentioned to the assistant on Avis desk and he said I cannot cancel my reservation even though there was no car I have reserved well few weeks before rental has started and it could be well planned by rental company. Car was not fully refuelled,which was passed on to Avis desk as well as the fact that menu on dashboard was in French or Italian and I was unable to change language as well as set radio or sat nav. I had 2 year old child with me and I was unable to turn off passenger airbag as there was no key. There was no liquid for windscreen wash. It was absolutely ridiculous and I have made phone call to auto Europe straight away before I have left Avis car park. Someone was to contact me and I was not contacted at all. "

" After paying for my vehicle hire I arrived at Interrent and was made to pay and additional €70 to take out more insurance, I was told that they are unable to take my debit card to cover the €1000 deposit and it needed to be a credit card which is something I do not own. So my car hire costs rose from roughly £65 to £135 for 2 days car hire. "

Told to find a parking space walk to global office, return keys, wait for staff member to find car check and return. This takes extra 20 minutes. So not the best. "

The car was registered in Slovenia and had a Slovenian handbook so when I had fault lights come up I didn't know what they meant. I read German not Slovenian. I had to find a Skoda dealer to resolve the problems which could have been resolved with a German or English handbook. "

Then when we arrived we were told there was no GPS in the car so we obviously needed one as i had requested it earlier, then as we were leaving we found that the car had a GPS installed in the car and was working perfectly fine and that we could have been using that the whole time without an extra charge. So i was charged £45 for something that i didnt need. Thats all Other than that it was a great car, and great service both in Berlin and in Munich. "

In my opinion this car was in a far inferior class to a volkswagen golf, opel astra, ford focus, skoda octavia etc... " Not that happy with Thrifty at Berlin Schonefeld (or Buchbinder as they seem to call themselves there). We booked a "Ford Focus Estate or similar" well in advance of our trip. When we got there, we were told we could only have an Opel Vivaro 9 seater van (too big!) or a VW Polo (too small!). I had to argue with the guy a bit, who didn't seem to care that I'd not be confident driving such a large thing as a left hand drive Vivaro into Poland where we were ultimately heading. In the end, I pointed out that I'd seen a perfectly good Astra Estate in his car park which he reluctantly let me take. The Astra itself was actually excellent (Xenons, 7" sat nav, heated seats etc)... just a shame the guy lied & tried to fob me off with a van. "
