    Station Information

    Berlin Hauptbahnhof Train Station has been designed to allow seamless conversion between all the city’s public transport options. This has made the train station a vital transport hub for Berlin, with numerous connections across the region and beyond. Welcoming in around 300,000 daily passengers, its platforms are 80 metres long, whilst the station itself is 430 metres. Train tracks one to eight are located underground and provide regional and intercity services from Berlin to Hamburg, Frankfurt, and so forth. Tracks nine to ten are also located underground and will be connected to the S-Bahn. Tracks eleven to fourteen provide are elevated and provide more regional and intercity services – whilst tracks fifteen to sixteen, are also elevated and provide train S-Bahn services on the Stadtbahn. Lastly U1 and U2 train lines provide metro links across the city. Known as U-Bahn, it is a separate station to Berlin Hauptbahnhof Station, but close.

    Station facilities

    You will find all the standard train station facilities located here for an pleasant journey. Dotted around the train station you will find numerous ATM cash machines should you need to draw out money. If you need to leave your luggage whilst you browse the station, then a luggage locker facility is available on level 1 above platforms 11 to 16. Free Wi-Fi is available at the train station, but it is limited to only 30 minutes. For added comfort, there is a DB First Class Lounge, but you will need a first class long-distance ticket to enter it. The lounge has complimentary tea, coffee, beer and snacks, plus free Wi-Fi with no restrictions. The lounge is located on level 1 near the balcony.

    Throughout Berlin Hauptbahnhof Train Station there are numerous places to eat and drink. Many smaller eateries are available, however, you’ll also find some common establishments, such as; McDonalds, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts and Pizza Hut. On the lower level -1, you find a large supermarket – ideal for stocking up on amenities for your onward journey.

    How to get to and from Berlin Hauptbahnhof Train Station

    Due to its central location, getting to and from Berlin Hauptbahnhof Train Station isn’t too problematic. Walking to the station is easy, taking only 11 minutes from the Reichstag and 18 minutes from Brandenburg. The S-Bhan suburban trains will take you between Berlin Hbf and Berlin Zoolgarten – old West Berlin, the Friedrichstrasse, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Berlin Ostbahnhof and Berlin Lichtenberg. Whilst a car hire at Berlin Hauptbahnhof Train Station is a great option, the station itself is well integrated into the U-Bahn underground system and the city wide bus network - ideal for getting you around Berlin quickly, efficiently and stress-free. A convenient taxi rank is available outside the train station and is a good option for those places that the local transport doesn’t reach.

    Parking tips

    Conveniently located on the lower level underneath the train station is a parking garage for travellers. Consisting of 860 parking bays, it is fully operational every day of the week, 24-hours per day. First 15 minutes are free, there after you will be charged an hourly rate. If you reserve online beforehand you can benefit from reduced parking rates. With a car rental at Berlin Hauptbahnhof Train Station, you can also avoid having to pay for parking, because the car hire supplier themselves have designated parking bays.

    In the city itself, free parking can be difficult to come by. On-street parking normally operates a Pay-&-Display service, with tickets being displayed on the vehicles windscreen. Before parking, make sure you are not parking in a resident’s only parking area. A great alternative to on-street parking, are the numerous car parking garages across the city. Many are conveniently located near attractions and points of interest – such as, the Charlottenburg and the Leibniz Kolonnaden.
