If you return the car with any fuel missing, they charge you €4.50 per liter, which is more than double the price at any regular petrol station (currently under €2 per liter). On top of that, they add a fixed refueling fee of €20, no matter how little fuel is needed. For example, I was missing 10 liters, I end up paying €65 in total -- that's €6.50 per liter, which is outrageous. This policy feels deliberately designed to overcharge customers, especially those in a rush or unfamiliar with the process. Between this and other hidden fees, I will never use Europcar again, and I strongly advise others to choose a more transparent and honest rental company. "

" I'm a bit hesitant to recommend Auto Europe based on Enterprise's performance at Biarritz airport. However from the UK the booking of the car was easy, the price good for 6 days. What I cannot understand is why the price jumped from approx £ 120 for 6 days to over £ 400 for 7 days when trying to book my break for the same car. "
" My flight was delayed by an hour and 15 mins. We arrived at the Enterprise office and then waited 30mins to be served ( under staffed ! ) and then told there was no car available even though I had paid in full to Auto Europe. Apparentally they "sold " my car to somebody else because i didn't arrive ontime. Eventually they arranged to pick up a car from another site ( Biarritz railway station - only 10 mins away ) and then we waited 1 hour 30 mins for the car to be cleaned. The car had just been run through a car wash, no internal cleaning was carried out. Our pick up and drop off was carried out by the same employee who was professional, courteous, polite, helpful and hard working. He was also embarrassed at the overall situation. During our drop off we waited 20 mins plus to be seen and in that time we witnessed some staff taking a break in the office behind as we waited with another 4 or 5 customer who were returning cars. There was only one member of staff serving at that time and was later ( 15 mins ) joined by another who seemed to have some seniority. Its maybe indicative of the type of person they employ, we witnessed an elderly french female customer ask the second member of staff as to why nobody in the back office could serve the waiting customers. She was told quite arrogantly that they were on their break and they were entitled to it despite waiting customers. Not a good start or finish to our holiday break. "

" I have the following issues with autoeurope: 1. At the point in the booking process when it was clear I could not return the car to the pick up point due to Biarritz Airport being closed, I ended up having over 2 hours of further phone calls with autoeurope trying to sort out an alternative drop-off. Autoeurope were NOT EVEN AWARE Biarritz Airport was going to be closed until I informed them! 2. My rental period was 1 day less than I had booked (due to the airport closure), but I was not able to reduce the booking period as it was claimed I could not be guaranteed the same vehicle (as it turned out I was initially given the wrong vehicle anyway, and was randomly fortunate that a larger vehicle was available). 3. I ended up paying for a days rental I did not need, and spending far too long on the phone being passed from one person to another in trying to sort it out. Dreadful customer service. "

Despite not being able to return the car to the point of rental (Biarritz) due to the closure of the airport (and the car rental facilities!), I had to pay £75 to drop the car at Toulouse despite having been offered (through autoeurope) a free drop off at Pau. 2. At the point of making this booking with autoeurope I specifically booked a full sized manual 7 seater. When I picked the car up, I was given a less than full sized 7 seater automatic. This was eventually resolved but meant an extra 30 minutes picking up the car while the paperwork was sorted. 3. At the time of drop off, the Hertz staff member claimed a scratch on one of the car wheels was new damage and charged me £100. I have no recollection of the scratch occurring and as the wheels were the one area of the car I had no before and after photos of, I could not prove I had not caused the damage. "

On arrival at pick up I was only offered a 3 door car, when I mentioned that I had specifically booked a 5 door car the agent said this was the only one available, leaving me with no choice but to take the smaller car. I was disappointed that I paid for a 5 door and was only given a 3 door therefore feel that the additional cost that I paid should be reviewed. "

" During the hire period the vehicle had a puncture. We were able to swap the wheel with the spare tyre but had a lot of difficulty contacting Thrifty/Hertz breakdown service using a UK mobile phone. I owned a property in France for 15 years and am familier with the French phone system and have never had a problem. I eventually contacted a friend who lives in France to ring the number on her house phone, she was told someone would ring her back but they never did. My concern was that without a spare tyre, if we were to sustain another puncture, however unlikely, we could be stuck on the side of a motorway and eventually miss our flight. We also had a disabled passenger with us. I would avoid using Thrifty again. "

" The first car we collected had a slow puncture. I suspect the puncture existed when I collected the car as it triggered a pressure sensor after 2-3 days and repeatedly did this following inflation of the tyre until we changed the car mid-rental. When we tried to contact Enterprise/Alamo we had difficulties with the numbers we had been given not connecting/ringing out. On one occasion, a local (French) operator to all of the details and said he would call back urgently - he never called back. Eventually we took the car back to the depot at Biarritz Airport. We were advised to take it to Speedy Repairs a short distance away. Speedy told us they couldn't possibly do anything with it that day and called the rental office, who then told us to bring the car back. we did this and the car was exchanged with a nearly new car which was fine for the remainder of our holiday. "

" The original car hire was very good but when we had to change it due to missing our flight and flying to a different airport it was a nightmare. I spoke to three different agents who each gave me a different option, but each involved a substantial increase in costs . One of the agents could barely speak English (this was in the UK) and I could not understand what she said. I was so frustrated that I decided to give up trying to rearrange the hire through Auto Europe and hope that I could rearrange it directly with CITER when I arrived in France. This proved to be very easy and I cannot praise CITER enough for their customer service. "
" Superb service. Having arrived in Bordeaux instead of Biarritz, CITER were very sympathetic and helpful. They did not have an equivalent car to the one we had ordered so gave us an update at no extra cost and also waived the charge for taking the car from Bordeaux and returning it to Biarritz.
