" Auto Europe are ok. However we discovered on investigation that for some reason we were charged and exceptionally high fee for the week we booked. "
" We had booked a small SUV ( Opel Mokka type) and were given a VW Golf with scratches and dents and 67800 km on the clock for the £453 we paid. Difficult for my wife to get in and out of as she is disabled. No other car was available. We preordered a ski rack which was not fitted. We were handed two magnetic racks without instructions but were to tired to argue. The next day we discovered that one of the keys for the racks could not be removed and the rack was hence unuseable. An immediate email to Buchbinder was neither acknowledged nor answered. A video of the problem was made. It made it difficult for my wife to come with me as I had to carry the skis in the car itself. On return to the airport the car was not checked by Buchbinder. We returned the rack to the counter wherethe gentleman deemed it unuseable. Questioned about the email he admitted his boss had received it but not answered it as we were only there for a week and he would assure no rental was charged for the rack. Overall this was a poor experience . The car was a lot smaller than a compact SUV , it was a lot lower which caused my disabled wife problems getting in and out of the car. Buchbinder could not care less. My wife has had many hire cars via various companies over the years. Buchbinder was by far the worst. "

Only issue we had was the battery warning light/message kept coming on from the start of our hire which was warning us to immediately take to a workshop. When we contacted support they said we had to drive it back an hour to the airport to be looked at but we didn't want to spend another two hours driving if it was just a loose connection and we had a full itinerary for our holiday. It would have been helpful to had had someone look at the car in the town where we were located. That was our only issue though. "

I've never driven an auto so my friend who owns an auto had to do all the driving. When I said that I'd ordered an manual I was told that I'd have to upgrade at a cost of well over 100 euros!! Your company has made an error yet I have to pay a shed load more money!! How does that work out? You should be offering me an upgrade at the same price or even a discount, not an extra cost. very poor customer service in my opinion. " The whole experience using Auto Europe was very simple and much cheaper on this occasion rather than booking direct with the actual hire company who provided the car. Choice of vehicle was immense with both plenty of companies and cars to choose from, Confirmation was instant, Detailed instructions of what documents were required and also payment methods required. pick up and drop off was seamless and the customer service rep at Buchbinder was very attentive, polite and professional. The car we received was an upgrade to what we had booked and was very clean and lovely to drive. I have since booked with Auto Europe for our next holiday and am very confident about the whole hire experience ahead next time In all honesty there is an increased risk or worry when using a third party to book a vehicle or any other service (On a previously occasion it had caused an issue which was my fault as i did not know the credit card number and the car could not be hired and i was out of pocket) so i was a bit apprehensive, but that was my fault and i have learnt from my mistake, but as long as you follow the conditions there should be no problems and i can highly recommend using Auto Europe as a booking partner. " I initially booked an automatic Ford Focus, but your website informed me that I could upgrade to a BMW for £150, as the rental period was six weeks I took advantage of this offer. When I arrived at Buchbinder they offered me a Transit van, I was shocked and declined. The only other automatic car they had was an Opel Safira - a markedly inferior car to the bmw that I had booked. On questioning the Buchbinder rep. stated that these were the only automatic cars they had. I accepted the Safira under sufferance, it had done nearly 50,000 kilometers, had no satnav and was generally unsatisfactory. I got in touch with both yourselves and Buchbinder, you informed me that I might be able to swap cars the next week in Salzburg. On contacting Buchbinder in Salzburg, they informed me that they did not stock automatic BMW or Ford Focus at any of their branches in Austria. I was therefore lumbered with a gas guzzling, unattractive taxicab, rather than the neat , economic sedan that I had ordered. I am unhappy with both you and Buchbinder, and feel that I was conned. "

The cross border charges are a rip off with full insurance cover. Cars from another country used to go into those countries should have full use of the countries road network and customers should not have to make additional payments. At drop off 4 days later a scratch was pointed out to me which I am unsure how it got there, though I know it was not present when I picked up the car. The 2 men dealing with drop off on November 1st were unfriendly and intimidating, explained that I needed to come and sign paperwork (which I did) and that I would be receiving an email on Monday 4th to say if I would be charged or not and that if I had not heard anything by Tuesday 5th I would not be charged. I did not receive any email - and have not to date but realised only today, 9th November that a I was charged a large sum £634 - in my opinion excessive considering the small scratch - it is my intention to follow this up further. This was and inconvenience however the Vienna airport Buchbinder staff are excellent and they quickly addressed the matter. "

In Vienna I was offered additional cover for 20 euros per day. I explained that I had bought the additional cover in the UK for £11 per day. " There is only notification in the small print that a credit card (not a debit card) is required to collect the hire car. I, like 10 other people on the same flight were unable to collect their hire cars. I was charged £90 admin fee to cancel the hire and it cost me 150 Euros for a taxi. You have been warned ! I was also charged an extra fee of 75 Euros for winter tyres on a subsequent hire. "
